Now that we’ve had the old confession, it’s time for our leads to enjoy the dating life as they plan for the future. Basically, that means this is a victory lap and it’s time to see what dating looks like for middle-schoolers.
Which is fine by me - it may get a bit repetitive, there is a limit to how many kisses you can steal before you might want to change it up, but we don’t always get these extensions of what happens next.
And it’s a reasonable sendoff for this pair and their incredibly unlikely premise that somehow held in there for twelve entire volumes. If you liked them up to this point, not much has changed.
Komura trying to figure out dating is pretty funny, I have to admit, and the scene where he consults the internet and the suggestions escalate very quickly is both on the nose and got a bark of laughter out of me to boot.
There’s no conflict this volume, not that there ever was, so we just get a lot of kissing and fumbling and awkward love. It’s deadly earnest - Komura and Mie are pretty much married and haven’t even hit high school yet. The cynic in me thinks it’s probably for the best they leave out a flash forward.
Overall, it’s a strong wrap up in terms of the series. We get a flashback to Komura first realizing he’s interested in Mie and they show off their new uniforms together (although the latter is the one weird note as it decides to really cram in a Mie-in-a-swimsuit-moment that doesn’t ring at all true).
They have a date, hang out, and generally encourage one another. It’s not hard-hitting, but nothing here was. It was just a cute little young love thing and it ends pretty much the same, although a couple jokes work quite well.
Most of the problem is that Komura remains as interesting as paste and it’s not like Mie’s much more than a pair of glasses (although her love of flapjack octopi does stay true right to the end). Charming moments work better with charming characters.
Still, if you read this far it goes out as it came in. Not about much of anything except a young love and pretty banal about that. Part of me wonders why I read it, but it wasn’t so awful as all that. It was a pleasant diversion.
3.5 stars - I mean, extra half for the good laugh, but there’s nothing special about this to make it more than a recommend as something inoffensive to pass some time. Sometimes that really is sufficient enough.
I didn’t realize when I started it that this was that this was the last volume of the entire series! If I had, I probably would’ve taken the time to sit down and read it properly (I ended up reading it here and there when I got a chance on my phone). 😫
Knowing it’s the end of the series made me sad like Mie when she finally let it hit her that they’d be at separate schools. Part of me is glad we won’t have to see their time at different high schools because (1) I don’t want to see them drift apart which is a very realistic possibility (2) I enjoyed how innocent their love was and as they get older that would change.
I’m hoping one day there’s a one-shot called something like “My bride forgot her glasses” about them in 15 years or so getting married. 😅
I have to say that the last few chapters as it was winding down with the aquarium date and the graduation (revisiting spots important to them) were sweet and emotional. I liked the time spent with their families too. But I was having a harder time getting into the first couple chapters so I didn’t rate it as highly as others (that might’ve been me having a 6 month wait between 11 and 12). It felt like once they became an actual couple things slowed down and it was just a ton of blushing & sweating from Komura (which is actually realistic I guess 😂).
I also felt a little awkward following a (very) young couple navigating physical intimacy but it was still all very innocent and Komura’s need to always bring in his imaginary FIL to keep him in check was funny. 😂 (Also, again I thought he & Mie are so like me & my husband, only about 20-25 years younger than we were when we started dating. 😂 She’s so forthright, gutsy and straightforward, and he’s so nervous and worried about being proper all the time.)
Again, having never had a preteen/teen romance myself, this series was such a sweet slice of life. I wish I could’ve read it when I was younger when I could’ve just been taken with the cute romance and live vicariously through them.
As an adult my jaded feelings and worries for these kids (“Won’t being at different schools be too hard?!” “Will they really still be together??” “They say they love each other a lot for young teens,” “Aren’t they moving a little fast talking about marriage??”… etc) sometimes got in the way. 😅 But I know a few people who married their preteen/high school sweethearts… so it’s definitely possible!
I think it had to end here or the series and characters would change too much, but I’m still sad this is the end and hope for that one shot at some point. 👓💖

Pure diabetes. Very fun, relatable, heartwarming, and it kept me smiling most of the way through. And though many of the stories in the first half are really short, which is especially noticeable in the anime, where each episode contains multiple stories, which can be a bit jarring, it thankfully ends up moving to longer storylines and really starts pushes the romance aspect of the story. And it thankfully goes on for quite a while beyond where other manga may have ended. Though I really would have loved if the story could have continued into the highschool years, as there were still more topics that could have been covered.
And though I like the characters, Komura-kun can be a bit annoying at times with his extreme overreactions, some of which make absolutely no sense. And the premise of Mie-san constantly forgetting her glasses also makes no sense, as her eyesights seems to be worse than mine, and there's no way I could ever forget to put on my glasses due to how blurry the world is otherwise.
Really hope this gets a second season due to how much better the second part of the story is.
So, I guess this means the series is over? This was a very, very sweet series, easy to read, and squeaky-clean. Not something you'd have to worry about your kids reading. While sometimes I think the characters were perhaps too naive, I really enjoyed reading it.
The series ends with graduation, leaving the reader to figure out how things will proceed once the characters get to high school. Honestly, I loved that decision, because not only was it a tender, bittersweet, but ultimately hopeful ending, but because it avoids the drama of Mie and Komura meeting new people, having possible romantic rivals, etc and just allows the story to focus on the sweetness. I'm sad that it's over, but I'm glad that it ended right.
soooooo soo absurt but still fun 😭😭😂😂 loved the 100th chapter wow it was so 😂😂 how did she even got the balls invite a guy for a nightstay that tooo only the single guy and I was thinking how will they go with who will sleep where then her dad says boy come sleep with me then i thought we'll so they are not going to sleep but then mie just come from somewhere and that was just epic

Even though nothing really major happens in this volume it was very sweet. We get to see our couple be a couple and move on to the next chapter in their lives. This volume wraps things up nicely and gives good closure. For a series with such a goofy premise, it was quite a fun, light hearted read.
I was so sad this story ended, but it ended on a happy note and I loved it... The series in it's self is so heartwarming and adorable, Komura can be a little odd at times, but he's a great main character...
Very cute couple and it was nice to see their relationship develop at the end. Nice clean romance with nothing dirty. If you want a cute clean manga series try this one out.
