I'm going to survive long enough to get my revenge on the king.
He killed my brother. Now, I'll kill him.
But to get close to the alpha king, I'll have to marry him first.
—Swan
---------This book can be read as a standalone with a guaranteed HEA. An enemies-to-lovers romance set on a dystopian planet, The Last Alpha King is a dark, steamy, plot-driven sci-fi romance that explores sociological and psychological themes, including insanity. It redefines and delves into what it truly means to be an alpha and an omega.
This had a good story, in theory. But it wasn’t executed well. I’ve never read an omegaverse sci-fi so that was really intriguing. Also this disease that makes alphas and omegas kill each other was novel so that also drew me in. It’s unfortunate that the writing and the FMC ruined it.
Swan is just so annoying. She makes bad decision after bad decision and her decisions don’t even make sense. No sane person would do that. Why do we care about an indigenous boy in the forest? He’s clearly doing just fine or his tribe/village is taking care of him. But no. Let’s do dumb stuff to move the plot forward. Same with her brother. He’s been missing for 15 years girl. In the jungle where no one survives. He’s dead. But no….. more dumb decisions to move the plot forward in a weird way. She just can’t help herself, she’s like a toddler with no developed frontal lobe or ability to control her actions.
Dune was cool but I don’t know what he possibly saw in her.
This book read like chat GPT spitting out facts. -and then we did this -and then we walked in the forest -and then we roasted food and ate it. It was so formulaic and the writing didn’t feel organic.
Also the sex was….. bad. There’s 5 or something sex scenes on page, and the words are explicit more or less but it is written so poorly! Again chat GPT! It was like asking GPT to write a sex scene. They were so bad I’d give this a 🫑 cause that’s how it made me feel. I started skipping the scenes…. I hate to do that, it feels wrong lol but I just hate them. They’re so bad 😅
The sci fi story was actually really cool but it’s a shame that the writing of it was so bad.
It would be one star but that cover is so beautiful I love it so…. It gets a whole Star! But Save your time. Skip this book!
Unfortunately, this just wasn’t for me. I thought the premise was good and there was a bit of mystery about what was happening in the wildlands that I honestly am super interested in.
However, Swan is a touch too annoying to me. Her intentions may be good but her execution is always poorly thought out. Things are just too black & white for her and she can’t see the shades of gray, which keeps her from being the strong female lead that she was originally set up to be.
I think I could have persisted if we had more chapters from Dune’s perspective. I enjoyed being inside his mind more than Swan’s.
Planet Sirius is a world where society is ravaged by a disease that divides society into violent alphas, controlled betas, and subjugated omegas, causing chaos and violence. Swan (h), an omega with a unique resistance to the alpha king Dune's pheromones due to her damaged sense of smell, is driven by a deep-seated desire for revenge against King Dune (H), whom she believes killed her brother Robin. Swan participates in brutal omega trials to become the king's mate, and despite the dangers, she remains determined to get close to Dune and kill him. Successful in the trial by demonstrating how subservient she can be, Dune brutally takes Swan as his. As Swan gets closer to Dune, their interactions reveal complexities in Dune's character, and Swan starts to question her perceptions of him. Dune, struggling with his own burdens as a king and the effects of the disease, finds himself intrigued by Swan's resilience and defiance. As Swan and Dune's relationship develops, they are forced to navigate the harsh realities of their world. They venture into the wildlands, where they encounter the indigena, a native species also affected by the same disease. Swan learns shocking truths about her brother and finds an unexpected ally among the indigena who becomes a crucial link between humans and indigenas. Throughout the story, Dune battles his own demons, including his violent tendencies, the societal expectations placed on him, and continual challenges for his crown. Meanwhile, Swan struggles with her mission, the revelations about her brother, and her growing feelings for Dune. Amidst power struggles and societal collapse, Swan and Dune must navigate their growing bond, confront their inner demons, and strive for a peace that seems impossible. Swan and Dune's story follows their intense emotions, difficult choices, and the hope for a better future. Ultra-hot and steamy dark sci-fi omegaverse romance, exploring the struggle for power, the complexities of family and loyalty, and the quest for redemption and understanding in a fractured society.
I find it really hard to grasp the chemistry between swan and dune. Like I don’t have the feeling of wanting them together. Swan’s character confuses me as well, like at the beginning her narrative made her sound like a strong FMC and then when she first attempted to kill dune, she started screaming and crying and then…nothing? I’m so confused her character.
Then she kept making these whiny complaints about Dune and finding her brother. Not to forget the plot hole of the wildland and the homeworld. I thought it was a dystopian universe where there are no electricity, little resources and food. The story IMPLIES they don’t have a lot of resources since Swan and Dune kept talking about surviving and their people going extinct. But then we have tanks and flashlights and videos?? Fuels, and batteries and electricity. 900 years of this and they have resource to save batteries and fuels!
Swan’s character is too dynamic for me. It’s everywhere and it’s nowhere. We also don’t have enough information about this political world as well. Not the home world but the actual world the FMC and the MMC lives. They said earth and they said planet but what universe is this, exactly? What city and wildland are being named for this world? The betas and omegas and the other alphas—what are their uniforms? Their ranks? Their stationary? It seems like a militia ranking system too. Besides Christopher being the second right hand man, there’s nothing else—oh and the alphas council.
This could have been a very good story if we understand Swan’s character a little more, not her backstory prese, but her purpose, her monologues, her thoughts of revenge and her rage: it was portrait clearly at the very beginning. She had so much potential when she went through the trial. But after that, something just changed.

This book had a lot of back and forth with the FMC (which drives me bonkers). On minute she wants to kill, literally, the deadly alpha that she believes is responsible for the death of her brother and the next she can't live without his dominance.
Far from earth, the survivors of her people struggle on a harsh world that has not only changed each subsequent generation - it is driving them to insanity and extinction. Yet they still cling to finding a way to survive.
Alphas go crazy in their dominance and eventually become nothing more than animals. Omegas can't stand the sight or smell of another female and their aggression forces them to attack their friends, daughters, and mothers. Betas are so meek they are almost robots. There is enough action to keep the plot moving and the backstory of the world is interesting enough to keep me reading.
One thing I always find annoying is the inner thoughts of the FMC. Why does it feel like the inner monologs of book females are a lesson on bipolar behavior. We all aren't like that are we?!? Gah, I hope my mind isn't a constant study in contradictions. Anyways, you will get the full female monolog effect in this one and if comes with its ups and down.

The Last Alpha King is an intriguing Omegaverse Romance and I loved it for its differences. On planet Sirius a disease effects the Alphas, Omegas, and Betas that eventually ravages the mind and turns them into feral creatures resulting in being put down or banishment to the wild lands, not a place you want to be willingly. MFC Swan has managed to get herself wedded to the Alpha King Dune who is pretty close to the tipping point himself. Her plan is to kill the King in a bid to avenge the taking of her brothers life, and fully aware it will also end hers. Needless to say her plan fails and becomes a case of beauty taming the beast. What a wild and dysfunctional ride the reader is taken on in this outrageously brutal Dystopian world. Imaginative world building, good writing, lots of Alpha, Omega spice, intrigue, subterfuge, and more keep the plot thickening as a well told and engaging story unravels to the reader’s delight.

An omegaverse but on another planet in a dystopian world. Swan needs to kill the alpha king, Dune, but she needs to marry him to get close enough to do it. In a world where omega’s nature is to want to kill other omega and alpha’s nature is to feel territorial and try to seize the throne until they finally go crazy.
I really liked this book. The world is so unique and stands out even from other omega verse’s I’ve read. The sci-fi/space theme didn’t feel overly space themed where it took away from the fantasy aspect of the omegaverse. None of the characters were really loveable but they all grew up in a world that is super hostile from a young age so that made sense. I’m so glad I found this book and will always stand out as a one of kind book. 5 out of 5 stars.
For the first time ever I almost did not finish this book. I struggled and I finally made it through it. I don't like to break my commitment when I say I'm going to read something. But I absolutely could not stand Swan. She's very immature very whiny. She doesn't think about consequences of her actions how they're going to affect her or anybody else. I believe there was way too many povs for her and not enough for King Dune. I feel like this had the potential to be a really good book because he was amazing. But her character completely ruined the entire book for me and made it drag out to where I had to suffer through it. I gave it three stars because I do love omegaverse and I did love the king just not her.

Fantastic book! A different Omegaverse novel from others in the market, distinguished by an amazing world building and intriguing characters. On a planet named Sirius, a diseases ravages the population of Alphas and Omegas turning them into feral/mindless creatures. Our protagonist Swan is tasked with assassinating the (tyrant almost-feral) Alpha King Dune. When her plans fails, she finds herself in the trapped by the King. To survive, she must win a war of power and seduction.
Truly a fantastic book! I loved the uniqueness of the story. The author does a fantastic job in writing captivating characters and world. Would absolutely recommend this book to lovers of the Omegaverse genre.
4 starts given, because of formatting errors where an entire chapter was repeated.
The world building was great and the mystery of the Indigenea was slowly unravelled and was really interesting to read. The relationship was insta-lust but developed into love based on respect. I also liked that Swan had ambition outside of the relationship, being determined to find her brother by any means necessary. She slowly begins to thaw and becomes more susceptible to love. I did think the epilogue could have been improved as it was left hanging to wonder about the cure, the treaty with the indigenea and Swan’s family. I would definitely read a sequel following the same FMC and MMC as there’s so much that could be explored!

This book, while interesting, is slow paced in a lot of parts. Also, the FMC was annoying at parts but not enough to make me stop reading. The MMC was unapologetically him and I loved that for him, and even though he was who he was he didnt allow that to stop him from growing and learning.I did find it very interesting that Omega, Alpha, and Beta were used differently than I am used to reading in paranormal romances. I hope there will be more on their lives, I want to know how the pregnancy goes, how Robin's son grows, and if he ever adapts fully, and what's happens with the homeland that reached out. There are some many questions that I hope we get the answers to.
You know that Book Hangover, that hits you once you've finished a book so GOOD, that you just KNOW, nothing will come close for a while? The Last Alpha King is that book.
I was pulled into this fascinating world so deeply that I felt lost to the real world. And you know what got me the most? A sisters deep love for her brother; the hope that she won't let go of and the willingness to do everything to save him. To every little sister who loves their older brother ... You better keep you tissues at the ready. (big EMOTIONS people!)
You want: Amazing characters... An Intriguing Alien planet... A Gripping story... ? This book is for YOU!.
I loved it. I loved how different the story is. I wish there was more help in the end. But I know it's supposed to be an origin story and it's realistic it doesn't instantly get solved.
The only thing is just an editors problem? Or whoever puts it in Kindle format? I dunno. But 2 chapters were repeated in the 70-80% area. There was also times " were missing from the beginning of the sentence. But this is not a reflection on the book itself.
This book talks about a disease and getting it on the new planet. The book does not resolve this plot line. It focuses on 2 people who reluctantly fall for one another. This story could have been really great but it failed short. The dialogue was crap and the way the FMC just threw verbal tantrums then got wrapped up in the MMC and gets temporary amnesia about what she wants, especially when he's touching her. It makes her not have sufficient depth.
The last Alpha King is an amazing omega verse book with a different aspect to it. The world building is phenomenal and the characters and very in-depth and pull you into it wanting more. Swan starts out seeking revenge by planning to marry the king to get close to him but her plans go awry when sparks fly….

I really liked the cover, it was intriguing. However DNF 13% as not what I expected. The FMC seems to be one of those bratty all talk no action female leads that are not my thing, and I don’t know if it’s “spoilery” but “Plot driven” stories don’t usually have spice this early. It just didn’t do anything for me.
DNF after 50% of this book. I couldn’t the MFC is the stupidest person and makes these asinine decisions that shockingly get worse as the book goes. The story is a good story just this was a terrible execution of it. For those of you who have small children will understand this but I would have rather endured watching my toddlers show Caliou. I gave this 2 stars instead of 1 because I believed this story could have been so much more than it wound up being.
I won’t go into details, but this story had excellent characters, detail and a storyline. The author really created this little world well. Highly recommend!
This was such a unique story. Ive never read anything like it. It’s very Dystopian with that alpha omega vibe going on. The king is a mess and the “Disease” is its own monster all together. Swan is a hot mess. She’s gone out of her way to do the impossible and i loved the outcome. 9/10 book for me.
I struggled so hard with this book. I wanted to like it but I just couldn’t. It was going to be a DNF but I pushed through barely. Swan was so annoying and the book was just awful. Good luck to you if you do choose to read it!
This took me some time to get through , it wasn’t what I expecting and I find myself enjoying the characters but the plot just wasn’t it for me , I just feel like with the plot we needed more and I think they’re going to standalone series . Hopefully more answer will come in the next book , it just felt all over the place or maybe it was just to much information loaded into the first book.
Aside from needing a LOT of editing, the story is there. I love love love the concept. Swan felt too... simple? Ditsy? She has no depth. I think it all moved way too fast. The spice was meh.
“She is the reason I have arms - they are to hold her with. She’s the reason I have ears -to listen to her satin voice. I’m strong so that I may protect her. I’m dominant so that she can be mine.” -Dune, from The Last Alpha King by Belle Knock
But the story was a batshit crazy mess and badly needed editing. The sex scenes were rushed and totally dull. Which is a shame bc the omegaverse world can be quite erotic.
To be honest , was i interesting reading something new . I cant give more than 5 star because for me 5 star is very good read and this was average. I finish the book just because i cant leave unfinished books. I don’t thing i will continue the full series
I really wanted to love this, but I couldn’t get past some things. I felt like the plot was all over the place. The writing style wasn’t really for me. This was a bummer as I’m a big shifter/mate lover and usually anything like this genre makes me happy.
Ehhhh. I didn’t care for it. It was really confusing and felt like being randomly thrown into another planet. Swan is really obnoxious and her personality seems to change a lot.
