There is a law that binds an Alpha to his wolf and stops him from hurting others of his pack. If an Alpha lashes out with the intention to harm, then his wolf will stop it, forcing on the transition...but one wolf has found the loophole.
Chain is determined to inflict harm. He sends out the one woman he wants but cannot have, Victoria. She will be his Alpha Bait, luring another Alpha to his death, thus freeing Chain from the control of his wolf. For most of her adult life Victoria has been at the mercy of Chain. He scares her more than anything else. Doing as she’s told, Victoria sets the trap in order to gain Scorch’s attention.
Scorch is a good leader and strong Alpha. He will not hurt anyone. When a beautiful red-head ends up in his care, he cannot turn away from the attraction she inspires. Their wolves are mates, and they’re destined to be together.
However, what will Scorch do when he realizes Victoria is with him to lure him to his death? Can she really send the man she loves to his grave? Being Alpha Bait was never her choice, but who really holds her loyalty, Chain or Scorch?
Sam Crescent is passionate about fiction. She loves a good erotic romance and so it only made sense for her to spread her wings and start writing. She began writing in 2009 and finally got that first acceptance in 2011 by Total-E-Bound. She loved creating new characters and delving into the worlds that she creates. When she’s not panicking about a story or arguing with a character, she can be found in her kitchen creating all kinds of havoc. Like her stories the creations in the kitchen can be just as dubious but sometimes things turn out great.
WOW, this was a surprising enjoyable story from Sam Crescent. I enjoyed every minute of it. This is a mating story about shifter Wolves. The alpha wolf Scorch who is a strong protective leader of his Clan. And Victoria a broken and beaten innocent beauty from an abusive Clan. Victoria's leader Chain has a plan to use her as bait to kill Scorch. Chain leaves a cut up naked Victoria tied to a tree for Scorch's Clan to find. Which they do, of course. Scorch takes one good look at Tory and knows he has found his true mate. The one he has been destined for. Just an AMAZINGLY PASSIONATE SHIFTER STORY!
They are a great couple who share their fears and are honest with each. NO MANIPULATIONS HERE! They have obstacles in their way. They won't let it stop them from being together. These obstacles only served to bring them closer!
The ending was perfect with an epilogue 10 years later.
Safety: she is a virgin and he has experience, no cheating, no violence, no pushing or pulling, no condoms. Only one OW scene at the beginning before meeting the heroine.
This author is a hit or miss for me and this one was a giant MISS ME with that putrid Mess when there was an explicit sex scene between the zero with another woman.
Absolutely not, no patience for that unnecessary grossness in romance. Back it goes.
Another example of a book with such great reviews that after reading it you're convinced the people were paid. So let me give it to you straight ...
Side note: Alpha is a title and therefore should be capitalized. Unless of course alpha isn't being used as a title. So the whole time I'm reading about this "alpha" I'm thinking yea he's not an Alpha, maybe thats why its lowercase.
This book had a twist to the whole werewolf/shifter genre, in this book Alphas aren't physically allowed to hurt pack members (Ok) .... but they are also not allowed to hurt other Alphas. (say again?)
Yea an Alpha is an Alpha (for some unknown reason) without actually being a bad ass. (Thank the shifter gods for loopholes)
So we have a sweet little puppy who can't harm a fly. Well except with words, rude words to the woman he doesn't want around anymore now that the girl hes willing to change his bad wolf ways for has come into the picture. Good things shes a bitch.
In all fairness I suppose this book was meant to be as the authors other many books, one meant for the pure erotica of it.
I wasn't impressed. I didn't even get tinglys.
This author has always been hit or miss with me and this was a miss.
It's always a hit or miss with these books. This one took a while to get going and didn't hold my attention as much as I would have liked. The wrong words, spelling and grammar errors are still pretty heavy but I have read worse.
Chain is the evil alpha of his pack, he'd like to be able to do as he wants to his pack members but his wolf won't allow him to touch them in a way to physically hurt them. If a female of the pack refuses him he cannot force himself on them. But he has found a way to get some of what he wants by using silver chains. Very apt considering his name!
Victoria is a member of Chain's pack and Chain intends to use her to flush out Scorch the alpha of another pack, as Chain has a plan to free himself from his wolfs control. Terrified Victoria agrees. But once she's made contact with Scorch she hadn't banked on her attraction to him.
Very good shifter romance with a nice story. I liked the chemistry between the two leads and the sex scenes were hot. I think I prefer this authors paranormal romances to her contemporary ones with the exception of her excellent Skulls series.
Victoria was sent by her pack leader Chain to seduce Scorch. Chain was a cruel leader and has been torturing his clan for some time. He wants it all. He plans to take out the Fire Pack to prove that he is the strongest. But when Victoria is found by Scorches pack, she finds out that they are nothing but kind and loving. This is a pack that would welcome those in need. She can’t do what Chain wants. If Chain finds out though, she may be in for a world of pain. You have to love Scorch. He is such a sweet and kind leader. He takes his time with Victoria. He always realizes that she is his fated mate. He doesn’t rush her and Tori realizes that she has a chance for a new beginning with him and his pack. His tenderness and patience with her is so heartwarming. It is sensual and yet as rough and hard as all the other wolf packs. The issue is Chain. UGH, he is one sick SOB. But the Fire Pack comes up with a plan. Thank goodness.
Stars: ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Hot: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Passionate: 😍😍😍😍 Scorch e Victoria 😍 Esse casal, literalmente é top... Very good... Good Reading... 🎀
I generally love mate books I read over 100 of them last year alone. The beginning of this book ruined it for me. He screwing some random girl...hard. It’s detailed. You’re already reading about the future woman to be his and she’s suffering and he’s screwing some woman he doesn’t respect. Nobody wants to read that. It totally takes away anything special from the upcoming romance. It would be a whole lot better to say or mention he was with someone but for it to be detailed when you know in a few chapters it’s going to be detailed with the woman he’s gonna love, it makes the whole thing have a sour taste in your mouth. Hopefully the next in this series willl be better because I have enjoyed some of this authors other books.

The only thing saving this from being one star is that it's not *completely* awful, and it's not offensive. Don't get me wrong, it's pretty bad... the characters are flat, which is possibly why I'm not feeling the romance, the sex scenes too uninspired to make it good erotica even, and while the plot (what there was of it) could have made for a good story, the rules of the world in which it's set are nonsensical and basically lead to an almost neutered "alpha" who is incapable of actually defending his pack or his mate from much of anything.
About it's only saving grace is that it's short, so you don't suffer long.
There were so many errors in continuity and repetition that I wondered if more than one person was writing this and no one was proofreading it. The story was okay. Short as usual but a lack of effort to clarify or clean up some scenes was glaringly obvious.
I liked the development between the characters but the conflict was boringly and semantically resolved that I was left thinking what was the point to this plot line. The intimate scenes were so sloppily written if felt like a first time writers effort. There really was nothing to recommend this story.
I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.
When it comes to shifter romances, Sam Crescent is the undisputed queen. In her newest werewolve romance, Alpha Bait, she has once again created a shifter universe filled with intrigue and wonder.
Victoria has been at the mercy of Chain, an evil alpha, since he had her parents killed. Chain has come up with a plan to kill another alpha, Scorch, and his plans involve Victoria luring Scorch to his death. Chain beats Victoria as part of his plan and leaves her beaten and bruised body for Scorch to find. When Scorch finds Victoria, his wolf recognizes her as his mate. But Victoria is so afraid of Chain and what he can do.
I absolutely loved the particular shifter universe that Ms. Crescent created in Alpha Bait. In this universe, alphas cannot hurt the members of the pack because it is their job to love and protect and their wolf would never allow anything else. That’s how I believe that shifters should be so I was pleased to see Ms. Crescent write this concept. I especially loved the plotline she devised as to how Chain could be dealt with. It was very original and I always love creative thinking.
Scorch was the perfect alpha. Besides being strong and handsome, he was loving and caring and protective. I still am not sure how I feel about Victoria. While I understood her dilemna with Chain’s threats versus her desire for Scorch, I found her to be a bit on the weak side and didn’t understand why the pack was so sure she would make a good queen. I would have liked to see her interact more with the pack, showing that she could be a good leader.
There are a few problems that I did have with Alpha Bait. First of all, there are some editing problems. I usually don’t mind when there are typos or other mistakes as long as they don’t interrupt my reading. Unfortunately, this time it did. Because of the mess up with some he’s and she’s and other words, I found myself rereading some sentences in order to ensure I understood what was going on. In addition, I sometimes got lost as to who was speaking.
My only other problem was with the heroine and this is most certainly a personal issue that I have. Victoria was a virgin which is pretty typical in shifter romance since we all know that our shifter men are jealous and possessive guys. That didn’t bother me. What I didn’t like is that she went from super innocent, not even having kissed a guy or had a guy touch her sexually, to using coarse language and being completely comfortable with some very kinky sex. I would have expected her to gradually reach that point, not reach it overnight. Again, that may only be my issue.
Overall there were definitely more things I liked than didn’t like about Alpha Bait. Reading it was an enjoyable way to pass a few hours. So when you’re in the mood for a quick shifter fix, you know what to read.
