Have you heard the saying, One man’s ceiling is another man’s floor? It’s applicable here. This is a book about loss, finding hope, and being resilient, but it has humor. A heartfelt story with a good ending. If you are looking for a palate cleanser right now, this might be the book for you! It takes you away from any of your daily concerns and you will find yourself thinking about a crazy journey in a school bus across the country with Coyote and her dad, Rodeo.
Coyote Sunrise has no idea what a normal family life looks like anymore. Her mama and sisters died in an accident and the world has never been the same since. While putting this aside, this is an entertaining, hilarious read. This book made me laugh and cry and thirteen year old Coyote Sunrise is the reason. This book DID it for me! Coyote is a stubborn, strong individual, struggling to navigate through life with her griefing dad. Having found her mother’s ashes in a box, Coyote is facing old wounds. Why has she never seen these ashes? After sullen conversations Rodeo(dad), and Coyote decide to bury mom’s ashes in a designated spot chosen by mom. But that delicate information of WHERE TO BURY is written in mom’s favorite book which was accidentally dropped off at an unknown thrift store. Oops! Coyote is creative and a problem solver and if there is a way to find something, Coyote will find it! Did I say she is notorious for being in trouble with the police, breaking rules and befriending strangers?
The interesting thing is that Coyote has LIED to her dad about losing this book with the information of her moms’s wishes in it. Oh boy, she has a convoluted plan on how to find this book. Hold on for the ride!
The ending was thoughtful and if you haven’t read the first book “The Remarkable Journey of Coyote Sunrise”, I recommend reading it first so you get the full enjoyment out of these characters.
