About the author

Isabel Allende Llona is a Chilean-American novelist. Allende, who writes in the "magic realism" tradition, is considered one of the first successful women novelists in Latin America. She has written novels based in part on her own experiences, often focusing on the experiences of women, weaving myth and realism together. She has lectured and done extensive book tours and has taught literature at several US colleges. She currently resides in California with her husband. Allende adopted U.S. citizenship in 2003.

Perla, supercățelușa de Isabel Allende este o poveste drăguță despre prietenia dintre un cățel adoptat și un băiețel curajos, cărticica axându-se pe felul în care se vede Perla în ochii adulților și cum se simte, de fapt, atunci când are grijă de familia sa. Meh. I like Allende's forward explaining why she is the author but Perla the Dog is the real narrator. And how Perla calls her "Woof-a-woof A-woof-ay" which you can tell matches the syllables of Isabel Allende.

The story is just ok. The magical wizard is a little odd and the point of the story seems to be that the young boy who lives with a dog learns from Perla how to bark and chase a bully. I didn't find that a satisfying storyline.

I had high expectations and maybe should not have.

This first incursion by Isabel Allende into the writing of children's stories is quite successfull, inasmuch as it inspires courage, laughter and tenderness. Looking forward to more by the Author.

Der beste Freund des Menschen


"Perla, der Superhund" von Isabel Allende, illustriert von Sandy Rodriguez und übersetzt von Svenja Becker, ist das erste Kinderbuch der Bestsellerautorin aus Chile und verzaubert jeden Hundefreund.

In dem Buch begleiten wir Perla, eine Hündin, die von der Familie Rico adoptiert worden ist. Eigentlich wollte die Familie einen Wachhund haben, doch ihr Sohn Nico war von der süßen Hündin sofort verzaubert.
Nico ist ein freundlicher und lieber Junge und wir begleiten ihn und Perla in ihrem Alltag. Allerdings wird Nico in seiner Schule von einem anderen Jungen gemobbt.
Perla schafft es jedoch Nico das nötige Selbstvertrauen und den Mut zu geben für sich einzustehen.

Das Buch ist sehr liebevoll und süß illustriert und hat eine tolle Größe. Die Liebe zum Detail wird auch sehr großgeschrieben. Die Geschichte ist zauberhaft und jeder, der Tiere liebt, weiß, wie viel Kraft, Liebe und Mut sie einem schenken können.
Man merkt, dass die Geschichte vom echten Leben inspiriert ist, denn Perla gibt es wirklich.
Ein tolles Buch und damit eine Empfehlung.

Perla, la súper perrita es el debut literario infantil de Isabel Allende y os aseguro que es un precioso álbum ilustrado que esconde detrás una historia muy entrañable.
Tal como nos indica la autora en la introducción, este cuento lo narra Perla, que es su mejor amiga y a veces se reúnen para conversar en guau, el idioma en que ambas se comunican.
La portada es ideal, de tapa dura y hojas gruesas que da gusto pasar. Debo resaltar las ilustraciones, ya que son perfectas, coloridas y detalladas, haciendo más rica la historia. Y se adaptan perfectamente a todo lo que transmite la trama.
La autora utiliza un lenguaje claro y sencillo para contar esta historia, hecho que hace que sea más fácil de entender para los jóvenes lectores.
Es un cuento corto y es perfecto para la narración oral.
Perla tiene dos superpoderes:
1) Puede hacer que todos la quieran.
2) Puede rugir como un león.
Perla nos cuenta cómo la familia de Nico la escogió de entre muchos perros del refugio donde vivía.
Ahí usó su primer poder.
La familia quería un perro guardián y entonces tuvo que usar su segundo poder.
Perla nos va narrando su día a día con la familia Rico, pero es con Nico con quien tiene más afinidad.
Juegan juntos, duermen juntos y van al parque juntos.
Un día Nico le pide a Perla que le enseñe su segundo poder; lo necesita porque hay un niño que lo molesta en el colegio.
“Los abusones son cobardes”.
Entonces Perla no dudará en ayudar a Nico.
Y hasta aquí os voy a contar para no hacer spoiler.
Es un cuento muy acertado para trabajar la inteligencia emocional de nuestros pequeños, con mensajes transmitentes de valores como la empatía, el respeto, la confianza y la seguridad.
En general, Perla, la súper perrita es un cuento muy bien escrito y emotivo que puede ayudar a los niños a aprender lecciones valiosas sobre la amistad, la inclusión y el respeto mutuo.
El mensaje es claro: es esencial ayudar a alguien que lo necesita y ante el acoso escolar no debemos mirar hacia otro lado.
Es una lectura entretenida que, sin duda, puede enriquecer la biblioteca de cualquier niño.
Es ideal para leer antes de ir a dormir.

Süß illustriertes Buch über Freundschaft Mut

"Perla der Superhund" ist ein sehr süß illustriertes Buch für Kinder ab vier Jahren. Die Geschichte erzählt die wunderschöne Freundschaft zwischen Perla, einem kleinen Hund aus einem Tierheim, und dem Siebenjährigen Nico.

Großgeschrieben im Buch wird das Thema Mobbing. Nico wird nämlich in der Schule gemobbt und Perla bringt ihm bei, wie er sich wehren kann, und zwar, durch Brüllen und Beißen. Das erregt die Aufmerksamkeit der Erwachsenen, und er bekommt schließlich Hilfe in seiner Situation. Ob dies der richtige Weg ist, mit Mobbing umzugehen, müsst ihr selbst entscheiden. Persönlich finde ich die Idee, laut zu brüllen, gar nicht so schlecht, insbesondere weil mein Kind selber eher die Art ist, die Angst hat, Aufmerksamkeit zu erregen, selbst wenn er in Schwierigkeiten steckt.

Die Geschichte ist aus der Sicht des Hundes geschrieben und bleibt dadurch relativ oberflächlich. Es gibt auch einige Szenen, die unabhängig vom Rest der Handlung zu sein scheinen. Vielleicht passt das zum Erzählstil, da der Hund ziemlich fantasievoll ist.

Me Encanto este libro! I loved this book!
I mean come on! it's Isabelle Allende! If you pick up this book don't skip the foreword from the author, it is wonderful!
This story is the about Perla the dog and how she comes to live with the Rico family. Perla is very close to the youngest member of the family, Nico. Perla and Nico are inseparable and love to learn from each other.
I also love the attention to detail in the illustrations including the book on the night stand (it's the first illustration after Perla gets adopted) It's a copy of Isabelle Allende's Paula. Love that detail.
As a dog mom I absolutely loved the perspective of the story told in Perla's view. It's a beautiful picture book that is perfect for kids and their adults :).

this is the rare low star rating from me. and maybe I've just read that many new/pet books lately that I was just bored into setting it down before finishing it. It is just really long--a lot of text. The illustrations are lovely, have good energy and appeal--but not exceptional enough to offset my boredom and disinterest.

I adore Allende's work, so I was excited for this picture book. I will probably try this again at a later date, but for now, I feel unconvinced it wouldn't be a waste of time amidst a season of large batch picture book releases of more interesting/entertaining work.

This story is told from Perla's point of view. Perla is a scrappy small dog that has been adopted by Nico's family. Perla claims to have two superpowers. "Number one: I can make anybody love me. Number two: I can roar like a lion." Nico confides to Perla that he is being bullied. Perla gives Nico a lesson that helps Nico confront the problem. Although the solution is not totally realistic, this does show Nico eventually getting help with the problem. A sweet dog story that provides an opportunity to discuss bullying and conflict resolution.

Contains several questionable lines that are not appropriate for young children- ex. main character says “I’m going to hold my breath until I die” when he doesn’t get his way. Also dealt with the bully issue strangely.

Overall an extremely clumsy and disjointed children’s book. You can tell the author just wanted to talk about her own dog and half heartedly threw in some story events.

I read a lot of children’s literature (several hundred books per year) and this is easily one of the worst I have encountered.

This is a sweet and upbeat story about a brave little dog who shares a special bond with the youngest child in the family, offering him inspiration and support when he struggles with bullying at school.

Kids will be giggling and cheering at Perla's antics, and the illustrations are very cute.

Good on Perla for driving away that mean dog who attempted to attack her at the park--and thank goodness it didn't end tragically.

A cute story from the perspective of Perla the family dog who has magical powers(?) and teaches her human Nico how to stand up for himself against a school bully. I think this would be cute for any animal loving child, but as an adult, I was a little confused by the dog narrator and the magical elements - like it was magical, but it wasn't? I know Isabel Allende incorporates magical realism in her full-length novels, but I don't think it translated well to the picture book realm.

I was looking for the name of Isabel Allende's new novel. I stumbled upon a picture book that she wrote last year! How did I miss it??!! Well, I'm glad that I found it. The Rico family went to the animal shelter get a guard dog. However, their son, Nico. fell in love with Perla. The book tells the story of how Perla because an important member of the Rico family. By the way, I am a dog person which effects my scoring decisions....

Unfortunately my rule about cat books does not transfer to dog books, because I do not really care about dogs. BUT if you do, you'll probably like this book. It stars a personable little pooch as the narrator, Perla uses her powers to teach her boy how to stand up to a bully. Very cute and imbued with just a touch of magic -- it's still Isabel Allende after all.

It was... fine. A little too verbose for Storytime. The pictures were okay. Not really something I'd put up for the Beehive Award, though.

Har likt det meste fra @allendeisabel og denne faller rett inn i den bunken. Forordet alene er vakkert og fortellerstemmen gjennom hovedpersonen er vakker. Litt fantastisk og det kan likes, med godt budskap om å være seg selv! Boken tar også for seg det å stå opp for seg selv, og jeg liker godt måten dette blir formidlet på!

Perla the dog has 2 superpowers: make anyone love her and roar like a lion. These come in handy when Perla is surprised by a big dog loose in the park, which inspires her boy to deal with being bullied at school. Cute illustrations, fun family. Kinda wordy however.

The artwork was beautiful and appealing and colorful! Cute to see little examples of magic on some of the pictures. The story line is that Pearl of the dog has two superpowers one everyone likes her and two she can roar. The boy is bullied so she teaches him to roar And the way he handles his bully, is not appropriate to schools, so I’m not sure I would have it in my school library

I bought this book for my granddaughters. The author, Isabel Allende is one of my favorite adult authors. I had to read her story for young readers (around 5 - 8 years old). I loved it! The story is cute and educational. Can't wait to read this to my granddaughters!

This book was cute and funny. I thought the author's note at the beginning was a bit of overkill. But the dog is really cutely drawn, and I enjoyed the story of the dog helping the boy. It does come across as a bit didactic about bullying and fighting back, but I could still appreciate the story.

This is about a small dog name Perla who acts super brave and strong. She tries protecting her house and her people, and shows that even small dogs can do big things. This is great for the preschool classrooms because it is a great example of being confident in yourself. Main theme being brave.

It's a really cute story about a small dog with a mighty roar told beautifully by Allende. It checks a lot of boxes on my list: it is not too wordy, it talks about pet adoption, it addresses bullying, and it doesn't pretend to be more than it is. The foreword by the author is hilarious.
