Thorough Introductory Textbook

The only complaint I have about this book is that halfway through the course, things are quickly ramped up in terms of grammar (namely verbs) which would have driven me crazy if I were a complete beginner; nor are explanations or subsequent exercises as detailed or as explicit as I would have preferred them to be (especially when the instructions weren’t all that clear and an example or two to begin with was sorely needed). However, this is probably due to length restrictions which I completely understand.

All that said, what I really loved about this course was just how much essential vocabulary and expressions it packs in. The dialogues are for the most part natural-sounding and useful for the often nicely thrown-in conversational phrases. The order of units and their topics seem logical and build up nicely in terms of what a tourist is most likely to need but fortunately, what clearly took precedence for the author (and I agree as a teacher myself) was what the learner can likely handle first thus determining the topic order (for example, a tourist would probably need to understand directions and get around with public transport first; however, the grammar concepts and structured needed for that is quite complex and therefore that unit comes towards the end).

Overall a very good course. Highly recommend.
