Adam, Jerry and Rick are back in action with The Night of The Dogman: Retribution. They have come across the sister of the original dogman who was killed in the first book. She is seriously looking to inflict pain and death. She is full of vengeance.
She has come into the town of Hickory with every intention of killing anyone that stands in her way. She is earnest in her disposition. She is not trifling in any manner. She has hunted down Adam and his friends for a long time.
Now that she knows where they are, she is going to kill them. She is going to tear their heads from their necks and chew them up. She is gonna rip their intestines from their stomach and swallow them with her big maw! She is going to pull the meat off their arms and legs
And when the dogman finishes all of that, she is gonna eat their faces off. She is going to finally be satiated.
This was a solid 2nd book by the author. The plot was a little different from the first but, it makes sense to be able to continue the narrative. Lots of suspense and nail-biting chapters. Definitely recommend.
I really enjoyed this book. The characters were easy to relate to but the onlthing is the ending. It leaves you wanting to know what is going happen now and there is no next book to finish the story. I'm really sick of books that keep you hanging with no finality. Dint leave us up in the air and give us an ending or the next step in the series. Please 🙏
*SPOILERS AHEAD * I wanted to give it a higher rating but felt this was fair.
First of all, I loved that it was longer than the first book. The 3 original characters were great at how they reacted to the returning nightmare. I really liked the point of view from the creature and it’s bloodlust for revenge. The attack scenes were well written and had my hair standing up. But even with all of that there were a few things keeping me from giving this a higher rating. First of all, the abrupt change in the love interest just didn’t fit with the description from the first book. It seemed to be a sudden direction change to create character strife in a man who has already been through two horrible events in his life creating a strong character background. Secondly, there was quite a bit of repetition especially while narrating from the creature’s perception. It was made clear what it’s motivation was from the very start. So continuously bringing up it’s need for revenge on the main characters at every turn was a bit over done. And lastly, the reader is aware that this creature is not a mate, but how in all honestly would the protagonists come to the conclusion it was a sibling on their first guess versus a mate when they confirm it’s an opposite sex from the first? Happy that it was left open at the end for another installment and a chance to further improve the writing which is already mostly enjoyable. But please, please, please….try not to use the word “vigilant” more than a few times. I started rolling my eyes after about a dozen times.
There are a multitude of phrases used numerous times throughout the entire book. Some, so many times it brings you violently out of your reading mood. Every attack scene is described the exact same way, claw slash to the chest, blood pool, knocked back. Dogman is out for Revenge, over and over again. 70 pages could have been cut back from repetition alone. Also, in the SAME sentence, the book refers to the dogman as a she and and an it. Stick to one please. I hate to say it, because I like the premise, but this was not a better book than the first one. I’m going to read the third one and hopefully the author has grown.
Great job for a rookie author. I would suggest additional editors because there were several phrases that were repeated over and over and over. Overall, I enjoyed the 2 books.
I enjoyed reading the book, however a bit annoyed as how many times the phrase “heart skipped a bit” was used, at least 20 times and some others. I like the story, the main character felt weak this time.
This was my first audiobook, and while I’m not a convert, I know it won’t be my last.
A sequel to a previous book, this story continues to follow Adam, Jerry, and Rick as they struggle to move on from their dangerous encounter with a Dogman. Although a year has passed, Adam finds himself struggling most of all, his night terrors and panic attacks exposing cracks in his relationship.
When a new series of attacks begins, the three men must join forces with local police forces and the citizens of neighboring towns, not to mention the bureaucracy of the feds, to stop a vengeful and hungry Dogman before it’s too late for them all.
I enjoyed the quiet voice of Phil Thron as he told the story, and though I was initially worried that his melodious timbre would lull me to sleep, Luka Jacobs’s storytelling made sure to keep me awake as I waited for the next frightening turn of events. If you’ve read Jakobs before, you know that she not only makes you care for and root for the characters, but she also makes your heart race with theirs as they face off against bloodthirsty cryptids.
I highly recommend this in audiobook and print form, and now I’m off to get the next installment of the series because I can only hang on a cliffhanger for so long!
The premise of the book is pretty good, and interesting read. One thing about the book that bothered me a lot was Adam, Jerry, and Rick possessed knowledge they couldn't possibly know. How could they know the female dogman was the sister of the dogman they killed? How could they possibly know in the beginning of this book that the female dogman was targeting them for revenge? There are other examples, but I won't ruin the book for you.
Night of the Dogman 2 was a great, fun read. I enjoyed this more than the first book in the series and am looking forward to finishing the series off with book 3.
I enjoyed the returning characters from the first book.
I'm a werewolf nut, and although the Dogman isn't exactly a werewolf, fans will be sated by the ample amounts of thrills, blood, and gore in the story.
Highly recommended for fans of creature features and Monsters stories!
Story is ok but reads like a kid's Goosebumps book.
Love the author's imagination, but he needs a lot of work. Very repetitive, almost seemingly to fill a word count quota. Very little character development. I'd like to see him keep working on it, though. For now, three stars is generous.
Miss Jacobs certainly does have a way with words. Her clever turn of phrase kept me smiling, as did her typically imaginative storytelling. There were a few more errors in this second book than there was in the first - some of them rather obvious, like a couple of unfinished sentences - but she still gets 5 stars from me.
So far this series has got me hooked 😃. The dogman that is coming after everybody is a mama, hell bent on revenge 😖. Adam has developed PTSD from the horror of the first one and now we have another 😑. Thanks again Luka, I'm truly enjoying this book and can't wait to see what happens next 🤓.
Not a bad book. I felt like there was a lot of repetition with how the characters felt. Almost as if I was reading the same chapter over. I did like the end of the book. Definitely want to read through next one.
Its a good story, I think I enjoyed first one better. Editing needs work and it was very repetitive, the Characters keep repeating the same things over and over. I'm still going to read the third book because I'm curious.
The reason this was given a two was the constant repetition. The consistent telling the exact same thing from one paragraph to the very next paragraph really breaks up what would have been an interesting story.
You are taken on a journey when a strange animal shows up all because her mate dyed in the town , three people were involved in his death. She wants retribution for death of her mate , the did a good job with the book keeps wanting more.
It was action packed from beginning to the end. I love that there’s still more to come. I’m still enjoying the fact that the story still has the same characters.
Although the book kind of leaves you hanging I still gave it five stars. Ms. Jacobs keeps the story interesting all the way through. Hopefully the next book will finish the story.
Great continuation of the story. Lots of action with scary buildup. Good characters and plot line. Love the small town feel and the way it is written you fell like these are your neighbors. Well done.
