A Review in Two Acts
Act 1 - Robley travels to present day U.S.A.
In book one True to the Highlander Alethia Goodsky was cast back in time to 15th century Scotland where she was taken in by the Clan MacKintosh. While there she used her supernatural gifts as a truth seer and her modern know how to thwart an evil plan by a rival clan.
Now in book two, Robley, one of the bit players in book one with a thirst for adventure has decided he wants to travel to the future, back to where Alethia came from. He enters into a bargain with the faerie madam Giselle and finds himself in modern day Minnesota, literally landing on top student midwife, Erin. Like Alethia, Erin is descended from faeries and has some healing powers, and it soon becomes apparent that Giselle is pulling strings in her own little theatre.
What I Thought
This first section didn't impress me all that much. Calling a spade a spade, I could easily have walked away and considered it. It strikes me that what makes a book about time travel work is in taking a modern person and putting them into a foreign situation...the past. The interest in the history behind a book can sustain it...taking a person from the past and putting him/her into a modern environment doesn't have that going for it. I mean seeing somebody's amazement at flushing toilets doesn't really hold your attention for more than a minute.
So act 1 was a bust for me.
Act 2 - Erin Returns with Robley to 15th Century Scotland
When the faerie discover Giselle's machinations they track down Robley and cast him back to the 15th century. But in the scuffle, Erin finds herself also cast back. While there she busies herself helping expectant mothers but with a death sentence hanging over Robley's head they cannot get settled and any hope for a family and happiness cannot be fulfilled until they confront Giselle.
What I Thought
This section was much better. To be honest it saved the book. It was entertaining and it was well worth getting past that first section to get to this. Unfortunately if I take the book in its entirety, that first section make what would have been a good book, just OK.

Sweet read. I listened to it till it got to the end and I had to see what was going to happen and I couldn't wait till I was driving or walking.
Reverse time travel this time. More action and some twists to boot. Loved the characters and we got to meet new ones.
Robley was so funny with his experiencing new things. I laughed at loud. The change for him had to be shocking and wondrous at the same time. His experience riding in a car...had me laughing outloud. He of course stayed true to his macho/alpha males self and fell in love with a motorcycle. His love for Erin was sweet and he was sexy as hell!
Erin was such and independent woman who had to find out that you can be that woman, yet still love and depend on your man. She was a good "guide" for Robley. She found strength she never new she had!

The Highlander's Bargain is an engrossing, heart grabbing, five star read. The story is well written and pulls you in as soon as you start reading. I was captivated with Robley and Erin's story. I loved that Robley was strong where Erin was weak and vice versa. They just worked so well together. The story was romantic, filled with intrigue, action and a few unexpected twists and turns. I just love when an author catches me off balance and I can say "What?!?" and this happened a few times in The Highlander's Bargain. Barbara Longley does an excellent job providing moments to savor throughout the story. There were times I just had to stop after reading a passage in order to smile, laugh, cry or to sigh with pleasure over what I had just read. Anytime a book allows me to do these things I consider that book to be awesome, and The Highlander's Bargain was awesome.. Barbara Longley researches carefully before writing her books and this careful research was evident throughout The Highlander's Bargain. This book captivated my heart and is one I will read many times over. Thank you Barbara Longley for a well written, exciting read! Kudos!!!

I LOVED THIS STORY!!
I Loved Reading "Highlander's Bargain".!! Robley MacKintosh wants some adventure in his life before he must marry. He decides to travel to the years 2010.This is the period of time where is cousin-in-law Alethia Goodsky, know as True, is from. True is married to Robley's cousin Malcolm of Clan Mackintosh and future Earl see bk1 "True to the Highlander".
Robley seeks out Madame Giselle who pose as a fortune telling, but is much more then that. She is a Fae of the Tuatha De' Danann. She is the Fae that bought True to there time. Madame Giselle agree to Robley's proposition. He must first retrieve a silver platter for her in the land of the Fae. Its seems an easy enough task and Robley preforms it quickly with Giselle placing him in the right place in the King of the Fae's court. Giselle gives Robley two crystals for his travel too and from the future and back to his time.
Erin Durie is working at the Renaissance Festival in Shakopee, Minnesota, while on her break a man appears out of a cloud of smoke and blue light. It's Robley and he fall right on top of her. Erin is a Surgical OB/GYN nurse working on her master degree to become a license midwife. They hit it off pretty quickly. Erin believes he's from the past becasue she has special gifts and his story about where he came from rings true.
Erin allows Robley to live with her and she guilds him in living in the 21'st century. Robley meets another time travel Connor and his 21st century family and he offers Robley a job. The characters are amazing and funny the banter between all of them was great. I love this story!! Another Fae shows up giving Robley 30days to fine the Platter which is a Pensive. At first he thinks Robley stole it. But Robley explains about Giselle. The Fairy Whirls Robley and Erin back to his time. At first Erin feels stuck but her skills as midwife are greatly needed and she even saves the life of True and delivers her twin boys successfully. Is this what Madame Giselle wanted all the time? I loved the way Erin took too the past and helped so many people.
Great romance an fairly good love scenes. Robley was not shocked to find his new wife was not a virgin. But I was a little. The story is very fasted paced. A real page turner. With lots of fun and lively characters some new, but most are from bk1. A very good story!! I Highly Recommend the Novels Of Loch Moigh .

I loved Robley! He's a man's man, but oh so tender and sweet. A real dream guy. Barbara Longley has a real skill at writing historical Scottish accents that are just enough to give you a flavor of the time without going overboard. A great story with time travel back to Scotland. What a ride!

Modern America through the eyes of a Medieval Scottish warrior. Medieval Scotland through the eyes of a Twenty-First Century woman.
Robley knows it's time to settle down and have a family, but he can't. Not yet. His love for adventure and his desire to see the future are the catalysts for this story. Truly, if he didn't crave adventure like he did, he wouldn't have been so willing to visit a Faerie. Robley's fall through time lands him in Erin's part of America during a Renaissance Faire. He discovers, fairly quickly, that his tutelage in Modern America wasn't for nothing as he adapts to his surroundings. His appearance, walk, talk, and mannerisms change as he settles into Erin's world though not completely. Old habits die hard and he is a warrior with a warrior's instinct to claim and protect what is his. And Erin... Well, she's his.
Erin has no clue what to do with a Medieval warrior, much less one as sexy as Robley, but she does her best. They settle into a routine in her apartment and she helps him explore her world 'til his heart's content. Her life wasn't easy and she's had her fair share of disappointments, all of which have led to the walls she's built around her heart and her decision not to expect much from anyone. Except the more time she spends with Robley, the more those walls crack, the more she wants to expect and have more with him. But how? He's leaving and she has plans that don't include traveling back in time with him, no matter how much her heart says it's the right thing to do.
Robley and Erin's story is quite a journey. There are walls to tear down, understandings to reach, and goals to accomplish before they can really and truly be together. Even then, they face the unthinkable: separation. God, that was a heartbreaking scene. To be together in the present and the past only to flung apart because the Faerie King says they can't? Completely gut wrenching, but worth reading. Don't skip that part of their story. If you've never experienced forced separation in a story before, you will and it is tear inducing.
Time travel romances have the potential to be incredible stories or epic fails. For me, there isn't an in-between for these kinds of stories. The differences between time periods are a shock to the characters, and I need to see and feel that as I read. Ms. Longley did a marvelous job of making sure the differences are well described by Robley and Erin, and that they were compared, mourned, enjoyed, and accepted. All of that and more was accomplished in this heartwarming story about finding love in the most unexpected time and place.

This story is for all of us who love a good mix of romance and adventure with some other-worldly elements thrown in. Robley of clan MacKintosh has a yen to visit the future he's heard about from his cousin's wife, True who traveled to the past in True to the Highlander. True was sent by the faerie known as Madame Giselle. Robley seeks out the faerie and bargains with her for the means to take him to the magical realm of airplanes and televisions.
The bargain is one that ultimately threatens his life, but Robley doesn't know that when he falls into the arms of Erin Durie – a modern day woman in a modern day world. She's nearly earned her degree to qualify as a midwife, but is in dire financial straits thanks to a roommate who left her in the lurch. Robley has True's credit card and can help pay his way as Erin introduces him to the wonders of pizza, modern plumbing and DVD entertainment.
Erin is reluctant to get involved, but the two are drawn together by more than necessity; there's a lot of chemistry here, and Longley does her usual great job of showing us how the relationship grows and the chemistry ignites.
If this book lacks anything, it's a pronunciation guide. Loch Moigh? Loch Muff? Loch Moy? Loch Moof? Loch My? I have no idea.

This is the best time travel historical romance I've ever read. The author did an outstanding job in creating a beautiful love story of two people from different times. You will like the handsome and adorable Robley of clan MacIntosh. He is wanting adventure since Lady True described the miracles of her world. He is finding that his life at home is boring and seeks something new. Robley seeks out the faerie Madame Giselle who tells him to retrieve her stolen property if he wants to travel to another century. When he completes his task, off he goes and lands up at a Renaissance fair. There he lands quite literally on the woman who will change his life.
Erin Durie is a nurse and future midwife who is broke, her roommate has skipped town and she has a dysfunctional family. She doesn't do relationships well because of her psychic gifts that set her apart from others. Erin only wants her certificate in midwifery to prove that she is good in her profession. When she meets Robley during the fair, she thinks he's a bit crazy. But Erin senses goodness in him and feels safe. She's attracted to the cute highlander and helps him adjust to the twenty first century. Then when the time portal is opened again, Erin and Robley are thrown together to land back in time. The Highlander's Bargain is the second book in the Loch Moigh series but can be read as a stand alone. The characters and events from the first book are often brought up and would probably benefit to read the first book first, but it's not necessary to enjoy this book.
The Highlander's Bargain was an extremely well written book that really transported the reader to the time and place throughout the book. This book has passion, adventure, time travel, faeries, and hot medieval men...what's not to enjoy? This book is written from the POV of both Erin and Robley, and is written in such a flawless manner that the voice of the character comes through as their own. Erin and Robley's story will leave you spell bound and craving more!
You will not be disappointed in this book and I look forward to continuing the series in the future.

This is the delightful second book in this series that was even better than the first. So very humorous and Rob & Erin's story has many twists as they find other time travelers in their midst and Erin learns a 'fae-rly' startling truth about her ancestry.
Looking toward to Book 3, but not looking toward to the series end. This author is a talented storyteller!

First I would like to say I received this book through the goodreads giveaway. I would like to say that I have never read anything from this author before but I will be in the future. I received this book and began reading it straight away. The story is so well written it pulls you into it as soon as you start reading it and you do not want to put it down until you are finished and then you wish you weren't. The Highlander's Bargain is an engrossing, heart grabbing Story. The charters are wonderfully well written, while you are reading this story you are drawn into it as if you are one of the charters yourself. This is one of the best time travel historical romance novels that I have read in some time. The author has done an outstanding job in creating a beautiful love story of two people from different times.

-Enjoyable time traveling historical romance. Reminded me a little of Kiss of the Highlander by Karen Marie Moning.
-I would recommend this for you if you're a fan of this genre and want to read about a sweet as can be hero. I swear, Robley gave me cavities, he was just that sweet.
-Three stars for enjoyability. There were some slow parts that had me dozing off though.
-The next book is about the two children that were in this one, that should be interesting.

What happens when you put a Highlander in a car and drive on the highway? Hilarity. I felt bad for him, but it was still funny.
Robley's priorities prove you can take a man out of time, but he's still a man. Harley Davidson, indeed!

Highlander's Bargain is yet another great time travel story by Barbara Longley. Miss Barbara knows how to write a story! I love this series. This book has great love, romance, and history. I cannot wait for book 3 to release. Five stars

I just absolutely loved it. The author just brings a great romance together with awesome time travel. It just was awesome. I laughed, cried and just genuinely loved it!

The Highlander's Bargain is the second book in Barbara Longley’s time-travel series, Loch Moigh. I read the first book early last year and found that to be highly enjoyable. I was looking forward to Robley’s book and must admit, it didn’t disappoint! The storyline flowed without a problem and I was engrossed in it for the most part.
It all started in book 1, True to the Highlander. When Alethia Goodsky suddenly time travels to the 15th c Highlands, thanks to a meddling Fey, she knew her life was about to change. What she didn’t think was forever would be attached to it. She was rather duped and fell right in front of the Earl of Fife’s heir, Malcolm of Clan MacKintosh. Alethia, who had a special power of seeing visions of future events, especially bad things, was taken in by Malcolm, who was instantly attracted to her dark good-looks. Alethia is part Red Indian, so she was somewhat comfortable in the knowledge of her special power. However she knew that the greater world of the 21st c would call her either a freak or a loon, so she kept it hidden. She had to keep it a secret in the 15th c as well, otherwise she’d be marked as a witch, a threat that came her way a few times while living in the Moigh Hall, the Earl of Fife’s residence. Soon, her and Malcolm’s romance blossomed and developed. He, and his parents, William and Lydia, believed in Alethia’s story about time-traveling since the Fey in question, one Madame Giselle, is known to these parts. The gadgets that travelled with Alethia certainly proved her claim! Giselle calls herself a healer woman but Malcolm, from a previous experience, knew the woman to be something otherworldly.
Alethia also rescues an orphaned little boy, who she named Hunter because no one knew his real name. She adopts him, as does Malcolm later when they marry. Alethia or ‘True’ as the people of Malcolm’s clan start calling her, was already an orphan, so she didn’t have anyone to return to. Soon enough, it becomes clear that she’d been brought here for a purpose, and it’s really not about her finding the love of her life. It involves Hunter, who turns out to be part-Fey, also a treachery involving another enemy clan to the MacKintosh. When she saves the day, everybody made sure that Alethia knew that she’d made a place for herself here. Now that she’s also married to Malcolm, she knew she was going to stay in the past. Not that Giselle gave her any choice on that matter!
I really enjoyed this one, as I mentioned earlier and Robley was an interesting secondary character. The youngest son to his parents, he’s also a cousin to Malcolm. His older brother Liam was also introduced, and he found his match alongside Malcolm. Must mention that the closest MacKintosh relatives knew about Alethia’s ‘secret’; both time-traveling and her special abilities, including Robley and Liam, their parents, William’s brother Robert and his wife Lydia. In fact, Robley was quite taken with Alethia from the beginning though he soon enough understood that her interest lies elsewhere. From then on, his mind was stuck in a whirlwind of desire; to time-travel to future and finding a girl much like the enchanting True. In the end, Robley journeys to Inverness, near where Giselle has a hut, to strike a bargain with her. And this is where his story begins in book 2.
As the second son of the clan seneschal, Robley almost had his future mapped out; to follow his father’s footstep and become a seneschal himself. Until now, he was content about it too. Robley is nothing like Malcolm, who is rather overbearing, a bit gruff but means good nonethless. Robley is much more jovial in nature. I remember him to be a rather witty character who kept me entertained throughout the first book. But ever since True’s entrance into their clan, and lives, he has been restless. It’s been 2 years and Malcolm-True’s blessed union makes him envious... even if a little bit. Robley feels the need to find the love of his life, and he’s somewhat certain that he’d be able to find her in the future. At one point, he has a talk with True and tells her that he’s interested in traveling to the future because he wants to enjoy the marvels of that era. But True somehow managed to sense restless vibe coming from him and the reason behind it. She’s a bit worried but if you know any MacKintosh men well enough, you also know that they’re stubborn to the core. So True resigned to the fact that Robley is going to attempt to talk Madame Giselle into it no matter what. For now, she and Robley decides to keep it a secret, knowing his father and uncle won’t be happy about it. Funny thing was, he never did think beyond his wishes, and the ramifications that are sure to arise from taking such a step.
Robley would soon find out.
Robley journeys to Inverness and finally comes face to face with Giselle. She looks like an old crone who loves cackling ominously as if the whole human world is big a joke. True to the capricious Fae nature, she’d grant Robley a boon, only in exchange of another. She needs something back and Robley would have to help her. With her help, he is transported into an unknown bedroom and brings her whatever it is she was looking for. But Robley didn’t realize that by doing this, he’s getting entangled in a new trouble. That, he’d find out too later in the story. But for now, Madame Giselle sends him to the future in a rush and Robley finds himself in the middle of another fair, much like the one Alethia/True used to work in her ‘previous’ life... And in the arms of a pretty blonde no less!
Erin was just taking a short break from her busy schedule and grabbing lunch when Robley was sort of launched towards her! She had no idea what the hell that just happened in front of her very eyes! A kilted highlander falling out of nowhere?? Well, to anyone else it’d look crazy but Erin, somewhere in her mind, took it in rather easily. It’s mainly because she’s also gifted, much like Alethia. Erin’s talents lie in understanding people’s health. She also has some healing power, that’s why she had taken up the job of a nurse, wanting to major in midwifery. It’s because of her special power is why Erin is doing a fabulous job with the patients too. Unfortunately, no one told her that a time-traveling highlander would be her next project, without her even knowing it!
Erin life is full of drama; the worse kind. She has a dysfunctional family. Parents divorced early. While her dad remarried and it seemed, cared more for his new family than her, her mom went through lovers like dirty dish rag. She’s now with Erin’s step-dad #4, and the relationship is already looking shaky at best. Seeing and experiencing her mother’s lifestyle, Erin has sworn off men. She doesn’t care to rely on a man in any way, let alone for love and whatever that comes with it. Besides, she has to take care of herself and there are bills to pay, so Erin has set a grueling pace. All day or night working as a nurse, then doing part-time in this Renaissance fair whenever it’s held during the year. She thought she loved her life, but one handsome, rather-naïve-for-21st c highlander, will change that soon enough.
Against her better judgment, Erin takes Robley in her home. And it has nothing to do with his sexy body or breath-stealing dimpled smile. Of course. ;) But either way, when she tried visualizing being in a century of not her own, all alone and helpless, it just kinda decided the factor for Erin. She also detected that Robley has been speaking the truth all along. Then there was the fact that Robley trusted only her, which flattered Erin. For now, he’d stay with him until it’s time for him to return to his century once more. But, after spending a couple of days with him, this thought makes Erin rather sad. Only she had no idea that Robley had already set his sight on her, completely fallen and determined to woo her in any way possible. Just like a MacKintosh male!
Robley though tries the wonders of the 21stc a bit here and there. Through Erin’s costume party of the Renaissance Fair, he even meets a few people who shares his interest in jousting and so on. He manages to get a job when he meets the organizer of the festival, one Colin McGladrey. After a match in his academy where medieval sports are encouraged, Colin reveals the most astonishing secret to Robley; something that no one beyond his immediate family knew. That he’s also from the past, more precisely from the 13th C Ireland! He’s been here for long now and has made a life too but it didn’t take him long to identify Robley for who he was. Colin gave up on returning because he had no idea how to. The Fae who did it to him never gave him an option. How sad. But he has found love and is happily married with kids. What Colin didn’t know that Robley has a way of returning to his own time, and so, he offers a job to him, willing to help out a fellow time-traveler.
After a month or so living in close proximity, Robley and Erin’s attraction grow to a heated level. Both want to give in but not knowing what the future holds, both are confused about what to do. Robley is still determined to woo Erin and take her with him and Erin is trying to keep her urges where he was concerned, at bay, due to her relationship issues. Not to mention his imminent return to his time. But they don’t get a chance to sort it out when Robley’s, or should I say Madame Giselle’s, crime finds him. Turns out, he actually stole something from the High King of the Fae, and his right hand man, Haldor, finds him in Erin’s apartment. He sends Robley back to his time with an ultimatum; he needs to rescue what he stole on behalf of Madame Giselle, who turns out to be Áine, the High King’s daughter. A Princess no less! Damned Fae and their annoying mischief! A fact Robley can attest for sure, poor guy. But in the midst of all the confusion, Erin also ends up time-traveling with Robley, finding herself in the 15th c Scotland.
Here sort of starts the second part of the story. You can only guess Erin’s state of mind after being thrown into 5th c without any preparation at all! Thankfully, Robley comes to rescue by returning the favor. He takes her home. Though he wanted to travel to Meikkel Geddes, his family home, Robley and Erin at first visits the Moigh Hall. From there he learns that couple of months has passed already, and that after his sudden disappearance without any trace at all, he’d been declared dead. Now Robley has guilt to list with already brewing fear and worry. He must find the thing that the Fey seek in a month, or else Haldor will return and he’d be dead; for sure this time. He’s also unhappy that he’d uprooted Erin from her time without her consent. Poor guy finds out in the hard way that consorting with the Fae brings nothing but trouble. And more trouble.
Erin meets True, about whom she already heard a lot from Robley. True tries to make it at home for her. Both are just relieved to find someone from their own time to talk to. True is heavily pregnant with her second child, which Erin soon confirms as twins. This ways she also confirms her ‘gift’ to everyone, though I guess True had already sensed it. Since Erin’s training was in midwifery, with Robley’s encouragement and True’s help, she ends up opening a working place of sort to help the pregnant women of Moigh Hall. Robley’s parents come in haste to welcome their wayward son when suddenly Robert has a stroke. Erin diagnoses and tries her best to help the man. The threat of losing his father so soon after his return shakes Robley to the core. That, with the added worry of what to come in a month, and the fear of losing Erin makes Robley restless, to say the least.
When True goes into labor, the responsibility of helping her, of course, falls on to Erin... turns out, True is going to need, umm... C-section and (as unbelievable as it may sounds) Erin attempts do one on her with medieval herbs and daggers at her side! Well, it was certainly interesting to read a medieval C-section, more so when Erin confessed that though she had helped in many C-sections, she has never really attempted one on her own! It read more fantastical to me than the whole time-travel thingy, but I was glad True recovered pretty well, having two twin boys she named Migizi (Eagle) and Bizhiw (Lynx) in honor of her own Indian heritage. Oh they have English names too, David and Owain (probably not in correct order LOL) but for now, everybody calls them in their pet names.
Though after his return, Giselle’s whereabouts proved to be illusive, Robley finally receives news that she has returned to her hut in Inverness. By then, he and Erin gave their love the acknowledgement by getting married. It’d only been a few weeks after their marriage but more than a month has already passed without any more intervention from the meddling Fey that seem to bend on ruining his life. Because of that, Robley had decided that he’s in no danger, that the Fey have moved on to something more interesting than him. Though he stubbornly refuses to believe in anything, Erin on the other hand, couldn’t let go of her worries. She knows, and True agrees, that the Fey won’t give up so easily. So it’s on her insistent Robley agrees to at least face Madame Giselle and ask for an explanation and a resolution. Erin would definitely play on her Fae genes and ask for a boon; Madame Giselle must do something to dispel any danger on Robley’s life!
Sadly, that doesn’t go very well because the High King and Haldor present themselves in Giselle’s hut. It’s also where Giselle’s true identity comes to surface. An angry Haldor casts a spell and separates Robley and Erin, who is returned to her time, again without her consent, as she has already made up her mind about living in this century with the love of her life. Oh the heartbreak! :( Months pass by without any resolution, both Robley and Erin trying to cope with their losses in their respective times and ways; both living without any happiness at all. Not knowing how to return to Robley, or even any knowledge if he’s alive, Erin decides to keep busy by taking shifts and finishing up her medical courses to earn her midwife certificate. She again picks up the pieces of her mom’s latest scrapes with her stepfather. But when all seemed lost, one day, Erin finds something in her room that gives her faint hope. Maybe, just maybe she can be with Robley once again...
The ending was fine. I really loved it, especially when Erin’s relationship with Haldor was revealed. It seemed as if the MacKintosh clan has become a hub of people with Fey blood running through them. But Robley didn’t care as long as he had Erin with him, this time for good. He can take on a Fey or two with her by his side. :)
The next installment, The Highlander's Folly, is Hunter’s book; the boy True saved and adapted as her son. Hunter was seen here and there in this story, has grown to a 12 yrs. old energetic lad. He has proven to be the pinnacle of Giselle’s interest in the MacKintosh clan. I’d like to find out what surprises his story unfolds for me! 4 stars.

The next installment, The Highlander's Folly, is Hunter’s book; the boy True saved and adapted as her son. Hunter was seen here and there in this story, has grown to a 12 yrs. old energetic lad. He has proven to be the pinnacle of Giselle’s interest in the MacKintosh clan. I’d like to find out what surprises his story unfolds for me! 4 stars.

Audiobook Review:
It hasn’t been long since I listened to book one of the same series. The first book was very good, so I settled with anticipation into listening to this one. My readers, author Barbara Longley creates one hilarious read! And with time travel. I loved it!
It was extremely amusing Aaron’s reaction to Robley’s ‘modernization’. I loved how Ms. Langley kept me laughing, whether it was from Robley’s reactions, Aaron’s reaction or to my own seeing the ridiculous situation.
Madame Giselle is back in this story, sending Robley through time. Robley joins us from the 15th century. He had been listening to True for years telling about her home in the future. He needed to know of it himself, so what better way than through Madame Giselle.
Once swept into the 21st century, he readily adjusts. Plus he had his own personal guide, the very lass he dropped onto from the skies. Aaron is no ordinary woman, but one with a gift – easing people’s fears and pain. That’s why she was so good at being a nurse. She was close to finishing her mid-wife certification. Robley’s ‘dropping in’ so to speak was a blessing. He roomed and boarded with her plus she was to help him navigate the waters of a new world insuring she had enough money to pay her bills until she graduated.
What would you think if you were from the 15th century, 584 years in the past and heard words like pissed off, debit card, kidding, in the system, insurance, get out!, jonsing, a shift, going out. These are just a few of the words needing clarification for our Scottish hero.
With Robley’s insatiable need to learn he read one of Eden’s erotic romance books while she was at work. He was totally comical, starting to use 21st century vernacular with his Scottish brogue. Aaron, American, used it of course, plus a lot of words he had no clue what they meant, many medical terms. It really was quite amusing having him question certain turns of phrase and frankly had me laughing out loud. Not just a little, mind you. But guffawing loud enough to have my husband stop his work, come search me out. His comment had me continue laughing. I sounded a bit demented!
The story was one lively episode after the other, Robley learning of the merits of living in the 21st century and enjoying his 'vacation'. Aaron very dutifully taught him to make sure when he pees to lift the seat and out of courtesy put it down. (I kid you not!) Funny times ladies!
Robley had the means to return back to Scotland but as each day past, he felt less inclined to return. Aaron was capturing his heart. Some heavy decisions had to be made, how could he stay, how could he leave? And then fate with the help of an angry fairy make the decision for them.
The story line was fun, the dialog was hugely amusing, although events eventually become dire. All in the day’s work of a good writer. Thank you, Ms. Longley for the wonderful story.
Angela Dawe, with her Scottish accents, portrayal of Madame Giselle, dialog and timing in funny moments, and superb storytelling ability made this listen pure pleasure, binding reader to author.

Robley is a 15th century Scottish noble who yearns for adventure and has a fascination with the future. This leads him to make a bargain with a fae: in exchange for retrieving an object of the fae, the fae will send him to the future for a limited time. Robley obtains the object that the fae desires with no problem, and so the fae helps him go to the 21st century. As soon as he lands in 21st century Minnesota, he meets Erin, who he recognizes immediately as his soulmate. Erin is a grad student about to complete her midwifery degree, and who is scarred by her parent's divorce and does not believe in happy ever afters. But she cannot avoid being attracted and caring for Robley. She helps him get around the 21st century, but just when she is getting used to his company, the guard of the fairy king appears in front of them to tell them that Robley has stolen an object from the king, and the punishment is death. Robley, realizing he has been tricked by the fae who he bargained with, in vain tries to claim for mercy. The fairy guard gives him one month to retrieve the object, or death will ensue. And in a blink of an eye, both Erin and Robley find themselves back in 15th century Scotland. Now both Erin and Robley will work together to try to save Robley's life, and Erin will have to decide whether to go back to what she knows and her dream of getting her midwifery degree, or to stay in the past with the man she knows will be the only one she will ever love.
I liked this book better than its predecessor, "True to the Highlander." Robley was a very likable character, and it is nice for a change to read about a man who admits his love right away and doesn't shy from it, and he is not embarrassed to admit that he would be lost without her. Erin was a bit irritating at times, but I did enjoy reading about her midwifery adventures and how she helped women with her pregnancies. Overall, it was a lightly enjoyable read, although I think there is something about Longley's style that just makes me think the books are poorly written. Maybe it is the complete lack of effort from the part of the female heroines to adjust to the time they have traveled to (they keep using words like okay, germs, boss, and they are surprised when nobody understands them; makes me feel like they are entitled and idiotic). Or maybe it is because it is just too rosy and peachy--the way the plot develops, even considering is a fantasy, feels too unrealistic at times. Either way, although I liked well enough the characters and the plot did not completely suck, I still left with the impression of a poor written book that I will probably never read again.

The first instalment of this series, True to the Highlander, was such a standout book for me this year, it's been a long time since I've enjoyed a time travel romance so well. They're quite often disappointing and amusing for all the wrong reasons, but not so in this case. The Loch Moigh series has all of the good parts of time travel romance; the cute moments as opposites attract, the language barrier funnies, and the many differences and similarities they share across the centuries.
Particularly enjoyable this time in The Highlander's Bargain was the fact that the hero traveled to the future as opposed to vice versa. His enthusiasm and desire to soak in everything he could in his short "holiday" was adorable, as well as the fact that they - Robley and Erin - became such sweet friends before anything romantic happened. Awww.
As with the last romantic pairing, Erin and Rob are absolutely perfect for each other. Erin is training to be a midwife and takes part in the Renaissance Fair to earn a few extra pennies, giving her a much-needed ability and a clear enjoyment of all things medieval. Robley is a man of his time, yes, but also forward-thinking enough to suit our modern-day lass. He also sees straight away how much of an asset Erin, with her medical training, would be back in his own time, and only hopes he can convince her to come back with him once his vacay is over. The romance they share is just exactly the right balance of sweet but not sickly, sensual but not explicit. It sweeps you along for the ride, gives you a few hairy moments, a few teary moments, and plenty of sh*t-eating grin moments.

The Highlander's Bargain is the second book in the Loch Moigh series wand this book was as charming, exciting, and engrossing as the first book. In this well-written story we are introduced to Robley of clan MacKintosh and Erin Durie, a 21st century mid-wife. In his insatiable hunger to go to the future, Rob strikes a deal with a tricksy fae and he is sent through time and literally falls into Erin's arms, right in the middle of a Renaissance fair in Minnesota. I simply loved these two and once Erin got past her wariness of finding a devoted and dedicated man, I was captivated by their journey together.
It was heart stopping at times during the time travel aspects, especially when the fae warrior, Haldor, showed up and threatened Robley for taking a valuable item, at madam Giselle's request, and when he send Erin back to her time in 2010. It was interesting meeting another time traveler, Connor McGladrey, a man from medieval Ireland who had previously fallen through time from 1299. He had given up returning to his century and had made a life for himself in the 21st century and I feared that Robley would stay in the future, forsaking his family and clan. The Tuatha De Danann can as intimidating manipulating when dealing with mortals as any demigods, thankfully, these fae show a bit more benevolence when interacting with their mortal kin.

This Highlander's Bargain is a wonderful continuation of the Loch Moigh saga and a perfect blend of magic, fae, time travel, and romance. Very highly recommended.

What a lovely escape...
I have been devouring The Novels of Loch Moigh! I just love them & can't put them down. Case in point, it's almost 3 am. I finished book 2 about an hour ago & since I'm having trouble sleeping (though at this point, the question as to whether I'm reading because I'm having trouble sleeping or having trouble sleeping because I'm reading is entirely up for debate), I'm going to start on Book 3. Yes, I have a lot to do tomorrow (today) & should lay my head upon my pillow & allow sleep to take hold but I've reasoned [with myself -lol] that I should just read Chapter 1 of The Highlander's Folly just so I can get the lay of the land, so to speak... Well, I guess that's my story and I'm sticking to it. I can't help it. I love these characters so much. I was very recently laid off after a recent acquisition & reorganization of the company I was working for. While these things do happen, it can definitely knock you off kilter for a bit filling you with the need for a little respite, if for nothing else, to try and reclaim a bit of yourself and regain your bearings. Thank you, Ms. Longley, for providing me with that wonderful & much needed escape! ;-)
P.S. I can totally see these stories & characters being brought to life on the big screen! (Malcolm and Robley!! Yum!)

This was an entertaining read. It takes you between the 15th century and today quite seamlessly without too much vertigo. Erin helps Robley in the 21st century and he settles in nicely enjoying our "hogs" and a few other modern technologies. What is a modern woman to do without all the gadgets when the tables are turned and Erin finds herself in the 15th century? Barbara Longley has brought problems to the surface of what each would face if staying in either century and what the benefits would be to self, couple, and the community. I liked that it wasn't just what was best with self.
Yes, I would recommend this to others. I have passed the book on to a sister who loves reading about Scots.

This was a highly anticipated 2nd book for me as I loved the first one (True to the Highlander). I was looking forward to revisiting characters from the first novel, and this provided some but nor nearly enough of that for me. But then, any more and this wouldn't have made it a good stand-alone...as it is, I don't think it suffers if you have not read the first one.
The characters in this one came alive for me as well but not to the extent of the first one. There was more magical shenanigans in this one that made it feel like these two, Robley and Erin, felt more like pawns than actual participants. However, plenty of lovey-dovey stuff to keep the romantic in me satisfied. A definite keeper.
