Merrick has always been in my life. My dad's gargoyle best friend has been protecting my family for as long as I can remember. And when I decide to go to dance school in Chicago, my father asks Merrick to come with me...to protect me...
But my dad doesn't know how I feel about Merrick and about how I'm pretty sure Merrick feels about me.
But someone knows. Someone who's been watching us. And not even Merrick can protect me this time.
I read this because it was very short and I wanted to dip my toes in this subgenre of romance that I’ve never tried before (monster romance). This was a free book during Stuff Your Kindle day, so I thought, “why not?”. And I didn’t hate it! I just wish it was longer. There are so many unanswered questions and the idea is too good to be such a short story. This needs to be more slow burn with lots more plot in a full-length book. I’d definitely read it! Also, I love the cover of this book, which is another reason I downloaded it. Sorry not sorry 🤷🏻♀️🤭
2.5 out of 5. This book needed some major polishing. The amount of times she wrote Merrick's name instead of using just "he" or "him" was too much. That simple change would have really made it better. It is hard to read when it's like "Merrick looked at me when Merrick was nearby, Merrick also is a gargoyle. Merrick is grumpy and Merrick comes closer while Merrick doesn't realize I love him". I'm paraphrasing, of course. I wonder if she thought we would forget his name if it wasn't constantly written?
This one wasn't my favourite book from this author, although it was still an enjoyable read. it felt a little disjointed and maybe could have done with another run-through. But it was OK, I enjoyed the premis of the story, the characters and the spice. It was just missing 'something' . Did it put me off this author - absolutely NOT. Will I continue to buy whatever she writes - YES. This wasn't a dark read, and I can't think of any TW'S needed, but you all know by now to check anyways, and if it's not for you , move on. 😉
Finally a gargoyle story I like! It starts at what feels like the middle of a story, like there’s this long history we get a hint of but walk into right as the good stuff happens. So that threw me just a little, but it progressed nicely. The secret reveal was just okay, kinda different. But the fact this kind of turned out to be her protecting him was fun and cute and the spice was good for a novella.
7ft gargoyle with red eyes and turns to stone in sunlight. Mate fated to a ballerina who is half human - half star(which she didn't know). Her mother was a star that fell to earth. Being a short story it didn't get into the logistics of that at all. It was just thrown in there towards the end when she got kidnapped.

It was short and sweet, and the biggie for me is that it had context, been reading a lot of insta-luv monster short stories, and I have enjoyed them very much, But I am left wanting more, and I was left with so many questions, where, what, why, this story didn't let me down.
I enjoyed this quick little read. It made me wish the book was longer, because the two main characters were very interesting. I thought their relationship was unique… but as soon as you realize how unique it really it is, the story ends. 😭
I still recommend this book though. The 🌶️🌶️🌶️ was well-written.
2.5. This had a few steamy scenes, but because of the short length, not much story. And of course there had to be some third act drama. I was really enjoying the spicy gargoyle, it didn't need the added drama. But it was cute for what it was.
This was cute, and I didn’t see the kidnapping come along at the end! But man do I wish there was more to the whole Eva being a star thing?? This could have been a whole long book with the amount of unanswered questions I have now!

This was a sweet and spicy little read that hit the spot. It had some plot, had some “bad guys”, and still had time for some hot scenes. I’ll be looking for more from this author.
Short and sweet! Always love a good gargoyle MMC. But goodness, this teased enough backstory that it could be a whole book so we could learn more about Merrick’s world and Eva’s family. I’d love to see more of them!
I love a growly, “touch her & 💀” monster beefcake. This is the wham, bam, thank you ma’am of cutesy monster romance that has plot with its spice and wraps the story up all neatly with a bow at the end.
Falling in love with the gargoyle who has protected you your entire life isn’t an easy feat. Especially since your gargoyle and parents have been keeping secrets from you for your whole life! This story was decent, but definitely could have been better.
My third book by this author and I’m still loving their writing. Short & sweet, and the spice is smoking hot! Do I wish it was longer? Yeah, but I’m not about to rate it down since it’s a novella, so 5 ⭐️
