Flocking It Up #2

Out of My Flocking Mind

Rate this book
FROM EXCITING AUTHOR OF PARANORMAL REVERSE HAREM ROMANCE JAYCE CARTER

Book two in the Flocking It Up series

Drugs, sex and chaos—sounds like a good time to me.

After clearing my name for a murder I didn’t commit, getting a seat on the council and nailing a very sexy vampire, my life is supposed to be calm, right? You know what they say, though—you can take the girl out of the chaos, but you can’t take the chaos out of the girl.

One night, some Spirit on a drug called Cloud attacks me. I team up with Harrison—a telepath with the emotional depth of a donut hole—to track down the person creating the drug and stop the flow of it into the public. This turns out to be far more difficult than I’d expected, especially when I know better than to trust anyone.

I’m reminded that everything has a price, which means I’ll have to decide what’s most important to me—winning or protecting those around me.

Who knew I’d miss my life as a simple delivery girl?

This book was soooo good! It's the second book in the Flocking It Up series by Jayce Carter. And in no way does it disappoint. In a lot of series, the second book runs the danger of palling in comparison or simply providing enough to entice the reader to consider the third. No here. I honestly didn't think the author could maintain the humor, character enticement and mystery as Flock This, but she proved me wrong on so many levels.

I'm not going to restate the blurb - enough reviewers do that and frankly I get much more from a book with just a bit of enticement. I like to know if the writing is polished and engaging, the world building believable and are these characters going to be one's I find with relatable aspects and ultimately care what happens to them. And we have a resounding YES here, folks.

What stood out most to me, between the first and second book, is how Grey, our main character, is put into a situation that is abhorrent to her. A decision is made for her that goes against her every instinct. It was done for the best of intentions, perhaps, but the person knew what this choice would mean for her.

Our crafty author turns the tables on poor Grey, by putting her in the same situation, but this time she is the one making the decision. And as in the first book, we see just how that choice affects an important relationship. And for Grey, whose walls are made of cinderblock, important relationships are few and far between.

Some have said this could be read as a standalone - I suppose any book in a series could be, but you will be doing yourself a grave disservice by not reading in order. This series is worth your time - I laughed out loud at times. The supporting characters are fully integrated and necessary for the storyline. I got so frustrated with Grey so many times, which ironically is how she affects everyone around her (excellent writing technique). But she stole my heart, and I cannot wait for the next book.

This was such a brilliant second instalment in the Flocking it Up series, so if you are a newcomer to this series it is a definite must to start at the beginning to fully appreciate this book and the complexities of the characters and the bigger plot. What I really love it that 'yes' it is a reverse harem, why choose romance but readers are exposed to the sexual exploitation slowly with one character at a time, not the usual 'free for all' so I believe it gives more value to each of the male characters. I simply love the characters that were created for this series and Grey the lead female is truly fantastic!
I'm not sure if I have ever come across such a unique female character that demonstrates a sense of strength and resiliency but still one with flaws and vulnerability, and definitely one that speaks her mind when she wants.
An extremely creative plot in a world of spirits, shifters, mind readers and vampires that really creates a world of fantasy and pure escapism but with a delicious twist of romance. The story has a great balance of action, drama, a sense of betrayal, mystery, mind violence /r@pe ( which could be a trigger), great scenarios of laughter, humour, sexual tensions and the moral issue of accepting guilt. But simply know, this story does end up with so many questions to still be answered but believe me you will definitely want to follow this series out just to see how everything will pan out for this group.

I just love Grey! She’s a hot mess and a half but she’s amazingly fun and funny. She might’ve met her match in Harrison who’s got his own boatload of issues going on. After the craziness of the last book Grey now finds herself in a position of power and yet still on her own. While that’s what she projects as her truth inside she so conflicted. That reflects in her interactions with the men around her. It’s all a big tug of war because none of them have figured out how to get out of their own ways. I like how each book features one man prominently and hints at the links to the others. So while this stands a.one fairly well reading book one would be my recommendation. What you’ll get either way is one crow jump in from one disaster to the next all the while arming herself with wit and sarcasm so as to not let anyone get too close to let her down. I’m definitely looking forward to seeing what’s next in this journey. I hope we will learn more about the origins of Grey’s powers, if she’ll ever let her walls down even just a little and will the men in her life ever get it together and win her over? A complex, spicy story that keeps you guessing as to what’s next and while satisfying also makes you want more!.

Out of My Flocking Mind is the second book in this reverse harem paranormal romance series and was a great read. This author is fantastic at writing a story that is unique and captivating. I was hooked from beginning to end and I'm definitely looking forward to reading the next book in this series. We get more of Grey and what I would assume are her leading men: Galen, Kelvin, Harrison, Rube and Knot. I'm assuming but Grey definitely hasn't chosen yet. However, I like her relationships with each of them because they are different in their own way. There were times when I wanted to grab Grey and shake her because at times, she can be very immature, stubborn and frustrating, then there are times when she will make you love her and leave you wanting more. I still have so many unanswered questions that I need answered, so I'm looking forward to the next book. This story had action, mystery, suspense, betrayal, steamy scenes, sarcasm, laugh out loud moments, steamy scenes and was intense in so many ways. I think paranormal romance readers will enjoy this book if they are looking for a unique story, but I would recommend that readers heed the authors warnings because there are some things that might be a trigger in this story. I hope the next book is released soon because I am so ready for more.

That’s all I can say is this author has magic for the books to have everything a reader is looking for - spice, mystery, solid plot, plenty of self deprecating and humor to name a few. The author seems to be focusing on a different faction for each books - first was vampires, next was Minds with plenty of cross pollination ⚔️ to show how they are all interconnected.

I really love Grey. Sometimes she’s frustrating as h3ll especially when she is running from something good. Or self sacrificing. But you can tell she has a soft heart under all those layers of sarcasm and fear and is afraid of rejection and betrayal; something we’ve seen come to pass in book 1.

I really like how all her guys are fully fleshed out yet though there are strong guesses to who they are. One of my favorite characters in this book was Trey; another lost boy she truly ‘sees’, and he gives her unwavering loyalty.

Without giving spoilers, I hope those that need to, pull their heads out of their @sses, and others take a chance, because we can all see how important they are, or will be, to her.

I stick with what I said after reading the first book in this series: the author is totally right in writing these books in single POV. I absolutely adore Grey; she’s a bit of a mess, with attachment issues only being one of the many issues she has, but she makes it all up with a giant and loving heart. No wonder she has all these men running after her. Even though they sometimes seem to look at the sky hoping for some Devine intervention once she does something crazy… again.

In this second book a new storyline is at the center, with more relationship building going on (including some interesting spicy scenes). I’m really enjoying this world, the mixed species harem that’s developing around Grey and how all these men slowly manage to pull down the walls around her heart. Emotional moments are alternated with funny moments, action-filled moments and everything else you might wish for in a why choose romance story.

I have been counting the days until this book would be released, and I’ll be doing the exact same thing waiting for book three…

Out of My Flocking Mind ramps up the mystery, suspense and angst in the second book in the Flocking It Up series. The main character, Grey, walks this line of being deeply flawed while also being relatable and sympathetic. She was a mess before she was turned into a mischievous crow shifter, but that's been dialed up to 100% in her new form. That's made her actively avoid the connections that the people around her are trying to form with her. Grey's self-imposed isolation isn't a comfort, or a safe situation for her.

Grey spends the most time with Harrison, an uber-powerful and secretive Mind. We do see Galen, Kelvin and Ruben as well. Each of them make Grey confront the way she's been living her life and if she can balance her paranormal need for freedom with her loneliness.

The mystery is pretty creepy. The characters are deep and balanced. The relationships are angsty. It's a great sequel.

This is the second book in the Flocking it series. I have to admit that Jayce Carter is the most inventive author I've run into! She writes such amazing worlds and this one is not an exception. This story is quite unique as well, because even when we already know it will be a RH, I'm not so sure who will be the lucky guys, especially because I'm rooting for Galen, I love the alpha male vibes, even though I was 100% Team Harrison in book 1, but I thought he was way tougher than he ended up being and that's why I gave this awesome book a 4 stars, but don't get fool by those 4 stars because the story is great, this book focused on Harrison, so yes I was sad because I was craving Galen after all and let's be honest he totally deserved it!, I totally get RH heroines now, because Kelvyn is so dreamy! I missed him a lot too!

I know this review is a huge wtf are you talking about that type of review, but this is not a standalone so stop reading my review and go read the first book! It has fantasy, love, steamy scenes, amazing characters and it leaves you wanting more!
With this said I need book 3 now!

Jayce Carter’s 2 nd book of the ‘Flocking it Up’ series is just as steamy, mysterious, and intense as the first book!! Grey just can’t help herself from putting her life at risk: her constant struggle to remain independent and never rely on anyone keeps her men on edge. Harrison tries to protect her, but she’s determined to solve problems on her own terms.

I loved the connections between her and Harrison, Kelvin, Galen, Ruben, and Knot: each one have a unique relationship with her. The scenes with Grey, Harrison, and Kelvin were so naughty and kinky!! She has such a hard time letting anyone in to her heart and mind that each encounter is a lesson in trust. I love getting to know more about her and hope there’s a future for her and her men!!!.

This is the continuation to an exceptionally slow burn RH series. Even at the end of the book, I'm still unsure who will end up in her harem. The first book focused on Kelvin and this one is Harrison's time to shine.

Now that Grey's cleared from murder, the plot focuses on a drug called Cloud and the task of ending it from being distributed. We learn more about Harrison and his family.

Grey is still very non-committal with establishing any real relationships with the men sadly. I thoroughly enjoy Grey's sass and snarky personality. There were moments I laughed out loud at some of her internal thoughts.

I'm looking forward to finding out more of her harem members. :).

I struggled a bit with this book simply because Grey, a female crow, seemed so immature throughout the book. I was hoping once she got a seat on the council she would grow up - but that did not seem to be the case. At some point you need to act more maturely - crow or human. Chaos vs immaturity. That aside? The story was quite good and very unique as she and Harrison work to find out who is attacking her mind. I found that to be quite intriguing. As for the romance/steam/reverse harem, that is moving very slowly and Grey is fighting it all the way - sometimes too much. I am assuming there will be a third book in the series that brings the reverse harem to its harem potential, but I hope Grey grows up a bit as she builds relationships with her men.

Pure Perfect Chaos

Grey has her council seat, but that doesn’t bring respectability - after all, she is chaos incarnate. So, when she attracts the attention of an unstable Mind and ends up in the protection of Harrison, working together to stop the Mind and the drugs they are spreading, it’s no surprise that craziness follows. Plus, there’s Kelvin (spoiler alert - turns out, she did become his thrall) and Galen (who still thinks Grey is his mate). I loved Grey - she’s so chaotic and says whatever she wants, yet deep down (way way way deep down) she cares - she just so scared to trust because she’s been betrayed so many times. She’s such a fantastic character that the story surrounding her becomes fascinating. A great read - I can’t wait for more stories in this world!!

This didn't get a full five stars because it seemed imbalanced in the harem. I'm not new to slow builds, but it seems that not all the men introduced are going to be end-game, or they're not all going to be in every book. Which would be fine if each book features one or two at a time...but it doesn't really seem that way currently.

Other than that, I still think this is one of my favorite RH series. The banter is great; there is developmental/character growth and just enough spice with the levity and seriousness.

Will be interesting to see where this goes, and if there will be more page time for more of the harem - even how that will come together. So now I'm just going to patiently wait for the next installment

I really like this heroine..smart, sassy, a little lonely, desperate for someone but doesn't ever admit it! Her salty but honest and honest approach is so refreshing. Now as for as the plot line...I got lost on what cloud really does for a mind and what a mind can do to people. That's muddy to me. Harrison you better make this right bc you made me like you! This book Kelvin came in hot and I did not reread book 1 so his instant closeness to grey was lost on me. So read book close to this book. Her maker mystery man, I am very intrigued by him! Ruben, will you like grey or not? Wolf man, I am rooting for you dog!!! I'm gonna go now and read book 3 now!

Flocking crazy Flutter hazy
So this book had me all up in my feelings! Grey is definitely chaos incarnate! She is simply the most unapologetically herself all the time. So of course her meddling gets her caught up in someone else's crazy. This leads to so many antics, dangerous liasons and steamy situations. Her latest entanglement and conquest has me up in arms and let me tell you it's crazy to think that no its not cliffhangered but I need a least another two chapters to get where I need to be lol. Perfect Book Jayce never disappoints EVER!

Grey (FMC) is an absolute riot (so funny) with a talent to get herself into trouble without even trying. In this 2nd book in this series she gets entangled with Mind Harrison (who can delve into minds and make them do what he wants too) when she unwittingly becomes the focus of a dangerous stalker. That in itself gives us more insight into not only Grey's history but also Harrison's too. It also explained why Grey finds it harder to let people in but gradually throughout this series she is letting the guys in. This series just keeps getting better and I'm loving reading it so much.

Poor Grey is a hot mess express with a side of fries! While she may now have a position of power it doesn't stop her from having flaws and being stuck choosing the lesser of two evils. And her love interests have got to get it together! Poor girl has got enough going on without having to navigate multiple potential partners! With that being said she definitely gets in her own way sometimes. Stubbornness leads to immature actions which leads to difficulties with the guys. Just waiting to find out what happens next to Grey and which men will gain her love!

Grey is still getting herself into trouble and collecting hot men along the way.

Galen is still claiming she is his mate

Kelvin made his mark and they are working through that

Harrison is showing a side never seen before

She is building her harem but only one of the men is getting any action so far.

I’m hoping there is more to come with this group.

There is a lot of depth and hidden items in this series that I absolutely love. Grey is pure chaos, and she lives up to that, she, however, does not like to let anyone in. A lot of the people she has cared for always seem to be hurt when they are in her presence. Keeping people at arms length is what protects her heart. The men that keep popping up in her new life, have not gotten that memo. They are there when she is trouble and never want to go away. Are they able to tear down her defenses, or will her being a trouble seeker get the best of her.
