Hi there! I've been a fan of fantasy tales, anime and manga for over 10 years, and always had many fictional stories swirling in my head (especially when listening to music to set the mood). One day, I decided to finally put them to use and start writing.
I like to write stories where the protagonists need to use clever tactics and proper teamwork to emerge victorious, making fights interesting and keeping you on the edge of your seat. That said, I'm a fan of cunning villains as well and not just fools getting outsmarted like no tomorrow. This makes each encounter's outcome unpredictable and intriguing, adding to the thrill of the story. Of course, I'm talking about major villains, not every small encounter. I write scenes where the protagonist(s) own a bunch of weak enemies too, those scenes are cool and add to the badass factor.
I also love writing stories with a deep, complex plot, where you don't even know who the main villain is until the end, often with surprising twists and revelations. I don't like to write tales where you can already guess who the "final boss" is going to be, that's too predictable for my tastes.
You might not find my world building suuuper detailed right off the bat, but I think most people prefer to learn as they go instead of being dumped a massive lore with a million names at the beginning and getting confused. At least that's my case, and I end up never remembering that stuff.
Anyway, I hope you decide to give my novels a try and end up enjoying them!
At a moderate speed filled with exciting battles, Alisanya’s “The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria” is a gripping young adult high fantasy novel.
Raised by her father alone in a remote village in Valoria, Chii, the cat girl, lives a simple life, enjoying the tales of her experienced adventurer father. As she turned twelve, everything changed. The once quiet village is engulfed by a creepy, dark mist that changes everyone's fate, including Chii. The novel is enlivened by her unpredictable adventures in the forest, down to the cultists' underground.
Alisanya adds anime illustrations to support the fully fleshed-out characters in the book. It makes the book more vibrant and coherent, which makes my reading easy and draws me further into the narrative. The prose is lush and descriptive, showing readers the adventures of Chii in the Gloomglades, the palace, and the slums. Alisanya interweaves the plot skillfully, where settings and characters play cinematic scenes, displaying their distinct powers and magic that make the story attention-grabbing.
The fight of Chii, Karin, Samir, and Alastair with the cultists led by Vera is entertaining, immersing readers with their exhibition of magic and powers. Beasts, an archdemon, a dark warrior, and shadowy creatures plague the protagonist’s journey in justice for the people’s disappearance, bringing interesting battles with the dark forces, which in turn makes the book more engrossing, despite the dark themes. The help of the strongest monk, Grandmaster Kerongvar, is a relief in defeating the menacing demon assassin, Nyxorath. But the book ends unexpectedly with the mystery of the archdemon finger, and Chii's next journey will certainly be more captivating to follow. Told through the eyes of Chii, readers will feel her internal dialogue, sharing her struggles and joy.
With Alisanya’s engaging writing style throwing endless thrills, surprising revelations, and breathtaking scenes, fantasy readers will certainly enjoy volume 1 of “The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria.” I can’t wait for Alisanya’s next installment!
Okay I done what you shouldn’t do and judged it by its cover🙈. I thought it was a manga and actually it does have that sort of feel to it. Like a manga but with a lot more sustenance to it. The MFC was just awesome, part human, part cat. I mean what could be cooler?! It mean that her cat side helped her with certain elements of her quest. Felt a bit like you were in a ARP game. There was action, adventure, mage powers. Evil to defeat. Love, betrayal. It had it all, was a really fun read.
'Shadows of Valoria; by Alisanya is the first book of the series 'The Adventures of Chii', and it sets a compelling star for what promises to be an exciting saga. As someone who enjoys anime and manga, I found this book to be an ideal choice for light yet engaging reading. The story introduces us to Chii, a catgirl. If you’ve seen the book’s cover, you’ll already have a vivid picture of her, with her feline features blending perfectly with her human anatomy. She belongs to a species that is half-cat and half-human, a detail reflected not only in her appearance but also in her extraordinarily nimble and dexterous movements.
In the very first chapters, Chii’s life is changed when a mysterious mist engulfs her tranquil village. The mist transforms everyone around her into shadowy, ghost-like specters, leaving Chii as the sole survivor. What follows is a harrowing year as a slave. However, by a stroke of sheer luck, she escapes and this is where her adventures really begin.
The novel is basically a series of adventures from this point onward. She aids magical creatures of the forest, participates in intense combat tournaments, and faces off against a slew of formidable villains. Of course, she also learns more about her past too in the process.
I found the combat between characters with unique magical powers to be its key attraction. One of the things I loved was how Chii, despite being seemingly outmatched at times, manages to outwit her opponents with her intelligence. As I continue to read about combats, I learned that the magical powers are not random but follow a logical structure, with magical powers categorized by elemental types such as fire, water, and ice. These fight scenes reminded me a bit of the Pokemon series and the Ben Ten Series.
Although the protagonist is female, the book’s action-packed plot and strategic battles have a universal appeal and I think boys and men will enjoy these scenes of battle too. It’s the kind of narrative that taps into the adventurous child in you and I do believe boys need to read more books with female protagonists to become better men.
The narrative starts off in an overly simplistic world, and at first, I wondered if it might be too basic to hold my interest. However, as the novel progressed, the world expanded organically through Chii’s various escapades. The accompanying illustrations were also a delightful addition, and made it easy for me to visualize the intricate settings and unique characters.
If you’re looking for beautiful prose or thought-provoking sentenes that make you stop and think, this may not be the book for you. The writing is straightforward, designed to drive the fast-paced storytelling rather than focus on literary flourishes. While there are no quotable passages to linger on, I think this style works perfectly within the genre and keeps the action moving at an engaging pace.
That said, I do wish the book offered more in terms of character development. Perhaps the later volumes in the series will delve deeper into character development.
Personally, I’m excited about what’s to come and excited to continue following Chii’s journey. Fortunately, you won’t have to wait long—the second volume of the series is slated for release in early January 2025. I, for one, will be eagerly waiting to see where Chii’s adventures lead next.
The Adventures of Chii by Alisanya is one of those books that reads like a heartfelt anime adventure with surprising emotional depth and an unexpected undercurrent of darkness. What starts as a coming-of-age tale of a sweet, spirited catgirl quickly morphs into a layered journey through trauma and power reclaimed.
Chii, the titular heroine, is a petite catgirl whose idyllic childhood is torn apart by a mysterious mist that turns her entire village into howling, shadowy spectres. From that moment on, her life spirals into slavery, survival, and slowly—painfully—freedom. I found the setup heartbreakingly vivid. There's a real sense of emotional texture in how author Alisanya portrays the grief, betrayal, and vulnerability of a child thrust into a brutal world not of her choosing.
But Chii is no passive victim. As the story unfolds, she evolves—emotionally and magically. She finds allies, trains with fae warriors, joins tournaments, investigates disappearances, and grapples with the demonic power pulsing within her. It’s all set in a richly imagined fantasy world. The magical systems are well thought-out, the dialogue feels anime-authentic, and the tone blends charm with stakes in a way that kept me engaged throughout.
What I loved most was Chii’s voice is that it’s innocent without being naive and determined without becoming jaded. Whether she’s facing bandits, rival mages, or emotional betrayal, her spirit remains luminous. The supporting cast—Akila, Leon, Samir, Ethan—each bring different energies to the story, and some of their arcs genuinely surprised me. That said, I did find a few scenes leaning into genre tropes a little heavily, and the pacing, particularly around the middle chapters, occasionally stalled.
For fans of Sword Art Online, That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, or The Rising of the Shield Hero, Chii will feel both familiar and fresh. And with its hint of darker themes like demonic influence, moral ambiguity, and emotional sacrifice, it’s clear that this is only the beginning of a much engaging saga. I am looking forward to Volume 2!
The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria by Alisanya is a fantasy novel about a catgirl as she ventures to uncover the mystery behind the loss of her father and the people of her village. Chii is a young catgirl, who has lost her father and neighbors due to the presence of a shadowy mist that appeared in their village. After their disappearance, she was captured by a group of humans, who sold her into slavery. Her life in captivity was very painful as she had to face the cruelty of various masters. One day, her master, a merchant, was attacked by some bandits, and as they attacked him, she decided to escape. With her newfound freedom, she embarked on a journey to discover the underlying truth about the disappearance of her father.
Opinion: The adventures of Chii explores the life of a young catgirl, and her struggles and challenges as she strives to disclose what really happened in her village years back. While reading, I acknowledged the author's style of writing. The language used was elaborate, and the description of the characters and places was very vivid. The plot was unevenly paced, and with it, suspense which was a page-turner. I was unable to predict the outcome of some actions. Within the 322 pages of the book, I was drawn in by the beautiful and colorful pictures in the book. These pictures clearly explained and aided in the description of characters and certain places. The characters shaped the book, and I loved the diversity in the use of the characters. Apart from humans, it had fairies and even catgirls as characters. Each character played their role well, which further enriched the story and fit the fantasy genre. The novel was set in different locations such as the village where Chii grew up, the forest where she met the fairies, the city of Argentis which is the capital of Valoria where she fought in a tournament, and some other locations. I enjoyed every part of the novel.
This book, The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria by Alisanya, tells the story of Chii, who lost her family 12 years ago after a gruesome attack; she is captured and becomes a slave. After being enslaved for a year, she manages to escape and meets a tribe of fairies, where she helps them solve a pressing need; in return, she is taken care of and taught to defend herself. But she can't stay as she has to find out what really happened to her family and why everything was taken away from her. She travels to the capital with the help of some merchants, and there, her journey begins as she joins a tournament to make money and sharpen her skills. Can she find the people who destroyed her family and get her revenge? You will have to find that out as you read this book.
This book has many things to like, but the protagonist is the first. Her character is very resilient, and she never sees herself as a victim, which inspires me. She never waited for anyone to save her. Instead, she chose to fight for her life and her future. The author's writing style is effortless to understand, and I appreciate that the author added pictures of the characters. They are beautiful and help you clearly understand what the characters look like. The author also used simple words to write, making it easy to understand. I do not dislike anything about the book; although I did spot a few errors while I read, these errors were very minute and did not impact my reading experience.
This book could be adapted into a movie or an animation. I recommend it to young readers and fantasy lovers as this book contains everything, including dwarfs, elves, fairies, foxes, etc. I rate this book 5 out of stars for the reasons mentioned and for making this book fun and easy to read.
"The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria" by Alisanya is a story of resilience and vengeance, set in a richly imagined world. The protagonist, Chii, is a character who evokes both sympathy and admiration. Her journey, marked by tragedy and fortitude, begins with the harrowing loss of her family and her subsequent enslavement. Alisanya masterfully portrays Chii's escape from captivity, which serves as a turning point, highlighting her indomitable spirit.
The narrative takes a fascinating turn when Chii encounters a tribe of fairies. This part of the story is enchanting, with Alisanya's vivid descriptions bringing the fairy tribe and their unique way of life to life. Chii's interactions with the fairies are not merely whimsical, they are crucial for her growth, providing her with the skills and support she needs for the challenges ahead. This is a testament to the novel's balance of fantasy and character development.
Chii's determination to uncover the truth about her family's demise drives the plot forward. Her journey to the capital, facilitated by merchants, adds a layer of realism to the fantasy setting, blending the ordinary with the extraordinary. The tournament in the capital is a thrilling segment, showcasing Chii's burgeoning prowess and strategic mind. It is a testament to her transformation from a vulnerable girl into a formidable contender.
Alisanya's storytelling is gripping, with each chapter peeling back layers of mystery and intrigue. The book raises questions about justice, revenge, and the cost of survival, making it more than just a fantasy adventure. The way Alisanya writes her story gives me the Ghibli animation vibes. I would love to see this book as a movie.
The setting of the story introduces a main character, Chii, a brave catgirl, and takes the audience into her life, suddenly struck by a dark mist that transforms her dear ones into frightening characters.
The style of the author’s writing is easy to follow for the reader, the narrative is rather bright, and it paints a clear picture of the shown world and the characters. The dialect is well written, and the continuity between scenes is good while displaying occasional narratives of excellent action sequences.
It is very good and effective when the author explains the severe ordeal that Chii has to go through and her deep desire and spirit. Chii, being courageous and smart, is a character that the readers can expect to support.
The author also spends his time creating emotions and a psychological plan for the characters, which is why the story itself is deeper. The themes of hope, struggle for freedom, and perseverance are the things young adults think about while searching for their identity.
I do gladly suggest “The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria” to young adult fantasy lovers. To sum up, the book’s unique style of writing, rich characters, and nicely built pace contributed to its success. I had a great experience reading it. I must say that it is worth my time, and I hope so for any other reader.

Alisanya’s "The Adventures of Chii 1: Shadows of Valoria" offers a refreshing take on classic fantasy tropes. The world-building is commendable, immersing readers in a richly crafted universe. Chii, as a protagonist, embodies both strength and vulnerability, making her journey compelling. While some plot elements feel familiar, the writing style flows smoothly, enhancing the reading experience. I appreciate the depth in character relationships, hinting at larger themes that could unfold in future installments. My favorite part of the book is Chii's encounter with the enigmatic Keeper of the Glade. The blend of mystery, danger, and revelations in this scene adds layers to the story and deepens the intrigue around Valoria's secrets. Overall, this book shows great potential and is a solid addition to the genre, promising an exciting series ahead. It’s highly recommended for fantasy enthusiasts!
I enjoy stories where the main character has a lot to learn and starts from their lowest point. Along the way, they learn quickly, mostly from their failures, and face formidable obstacles. In Alisanya’s book, Chii is such a protagonist – a catgirl at that. To achieve her goals, Chii confronts demons and humans with extraordinary powers. But Chii is special; she can fight in tournaments and is willing to sacrifice everything to save friends.
Alisanya excels in characterization, creating well-fleshed-out and memorable characters. Her writing is straightforward, making it easy for readers to immerse themselves in Chii’s story.
In conclusion, "The Adventures of Chii: Shadows of Valoria" is a must-read for young adults. Fans of fantasy, regardless of their age, will find a story worth their time here. What's more, we'll be seeing more of Chii in the coming book or books.
I definitely judged this book by it's cover, assuming it was a manga. While it wasn't, it had the feel and some stunning illustrations. The story follows Chii, half human half cat, as she breaks away from slavery and finds herself in gladiator type games and more adventures than she can handle. It was fun reading her story and everything she got into. But not only was it a fun story, it had substance to it. With Chii's character growth, finding herself, making mistakes, and learning her own power. As much as I liked the story, the best part was the illustrations. It really added more beauty and substance to the story, being able to see what was happening. I can't wait for book 2.
The Adventures of Chii 1: Shadows of Valoria surprised me with its gripping start. Chii’s village is lost to a dark mist, leaving her alone to face bandits and a harsh year of captivity. Her escape felt real and emotional. I loved how Chii grew from a frightened girl to a determined adventurer, especially with the help of her new allies. The battles are clever and rely on strategy, not just strength. The mystery of the shadowy fog kept me hooked till the end, and I hope there’s a sequel. It’s a quick, enjoyable read for anyone who loves fantasy adventures.
This book is an exciting fantasy story about a girl named Chii who loses everything when a dark mist takes over her village. After a tough year as a slave, she escapes and finds friends who help her become strong and brave. Chii’s journey is full of battles, mysteries, and surprising twists. The story shows her learning new skills, facing challenges, and discovering dark secrets about the mist. I really like the fighting spirit of the main character and my favorite moment is when she finds support in the most unexpected way. I loved it and highly recommend it.
My book club chose this, and it was such a pleasant surprise. I probably wouldn’t have picked it up on my own, but once I started reading, I couldn’t stop. We ended up spending nearly two hours talking about the symbolism of the mist!
Chii’s character was a highlight for me. She reminded me of what it means to hold onto hope even when everything feels impossible.
This is one of those books that’s perfect for group reading, especially if you enjoy discussing heavier themes through a fantasy lens.
Chii’s story is about courage and survival after losing everything. When a creepy fog turns her village into shadows, Chii is left all alone. She faces a terrible year as a captive but eventually escapes and meets friends who support her. She becomes a skilled fighter, ready to solve the mystery of the fog that changed her life. This is a perfect read for anyone who loves a mix of fantasy, action, and a heroine who never gives up. I highly recommend it.
The writing in this book is simple, but the emotions behind it are anything but. Chii’s story broke me more than once, but it also gave me hope. The father-daughter bond at the start set such a strong emotional foundation.
The darker themes might not be for everyone, but they’re handled with sensitivity. It never felt like suffering for the sake of shock.
I’d recommend this for readers who love bittersweet fantasy that feels personal rather than epic.
I wasn’t sure what to expect going in, but the prologue immediately captured my attention. The mist was such a haunting image, and it made me want to understand the larger world right away.
Chii as a protagonist feels very grounded. She’s not overpowered or unrealistically brave she’s just a girl trying to survive, which made me connect with her deeply.
This is the kind of fantasy I’d recommend for readers who like character-driven stories with a touch of darkness.
The story has a strong emotional pull. Chii’s loss of her father and her village was heartbreaking, and I admired the way the author used that as the foundation for her growth.
The middle section dragged for me, but I kept reading because I wanted to see her find her place again. That’s the strength of a well-written protagonist.
If you’re looking for fast-paced action, this may not be it, but if you want emotional resonance, it delivers.
I read this with my fantasy book club, and we all had very different reactions. Some loved the darker tone, while others found it overwhelming. Personally, I appreciated that the author didn’t sugarcoat anything.
Chii’s resilience made her easy to root for, even in the bleakest moments. I loved how her hope never completely faded, even when everything else did.
I’d recommend this to readers who want fantasy that sparks discussion and sits with you afterward.
I really enjoyed this book and can't wait to read the next one. It took me a minute to get into the book but when I finally got into it I couldn't put it down. I found myself saying one more chapter at 2 am. The battles were entertaining and had you on the edge of your seat.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily
The imagery in this book is what stood out to me most. The mist, the shadowy specters, even the forests Chii fled through they all felt vivid and cinematic.
The story itself is painful but meaningful. It’s about survival and identity, and that gave it more weight than I expected.
I recommend this to fans of atmospheric fantasy who enjoy a touch of darkness in their tales.
The prologue is probably one of the most memorable openings I’ve read in a long time. It set the stage for a story that’s both tragic and hopeful.
Chii’s journey was difficult to read at times, but that’s what made it powerful. I appreciated how the author balanced despair with moments of resilience.
I’d definitely recommend this to anyone who enjoys fantasy that makes you feel deeply.
It starts off a little simplistic but develops quickly. Almost feels like your going through a video game with all the battles and the skills she learns. I liked the characters and the story but way too many battles and too little story and character development. If the story was slowed down a little with more substance and less bad guys / battles it could have been better.
Chii has an extraordinarily confidence in the training given to her from the fairies. She defends her friends and defeats the enemies until she can't find them. Very well written.i couldn't put it down. 5 Stars. Aa
