This Lesson Guide offers a variety of learning experiences based on the award-winning children's book, ABOUT A FARM. It is targeted to students in grade 3 through 5. ABOUT A FARM consists of twelve chapters, each one featuring a "vignette" about an individual social situation or relationship. The farm is merely a setting for the story dynamics. These could just as easily take place almost anywhere, such as a city, a small town or neighborhood. The episodes that take place in each chapter are played out by the various animals and the humans who interact with them. Each chapter is theme-based. These include such concepts as sacrifice, prejudice, self-esteem, compromise and even response to the death of a friend. ABOUT A FARM is the recipient of a 2013 Children's Literary Classics International Book Award. It was selected by CLC as "Best First Chapter Book."
