Cara Bentley, a romance novelist, is surprised when she finds a document among her late grandparents' possessions that indicates her grandfather was adopted. Why had she never heard this before? Cara's quest for her roots takes her to Bird-in-Hand, a quaint Amish town in Lancaster County, Pennsylvania, where she takes a room on the Zook farm-first introduced in The Key. But in the face of a closed Plain society, her search seems destined for failure. If not for the money in John Bentley's will, would anyone care where Cara came from? Will she ever discover her grandfather's heritage? Will she ever know her own?
Gayle Roper rejoices every day that she gets to be a writer because she's in love with story. Even on the days that words rebel and have to be coerced onto the paper, there is nothing else she'd rather do. When readers like her work, it's like God says, "See? I knew what you were wired to do." When her books win awards like the Carol Award (Caught Redhanded) or the RITA Award (Autumn Dreams), the Holt Medallion (The Decision, Caught in a Bind, Autumn Dreams) or the Reviewer's Choice (The Decision), it's icing on the cake. And she gets to teach others how to write at conferences too. She spends a lot of time smiling. She is a member of American Christian Fiction Writers and Romance Writers of America and is the best-selling author of Hide & Seek and more than forty other books.
A light inspirational romance that has has a well-developed plot line in which a young woman decides to search out her relatives after discovering her recently deceased grandfather was adopted. The typical clash of personalities between the two lead characters, and the usual overstated drama is offset somewhat by the interesting setting and background of the Amish involvement. For those who appreciate their romances a bit unrealistic in depth, yet enjoy a bit of intrigue.
I loved this romantic mystery set in Amish country. Todd helps romantic author Cara look for her grandfather's adoptive family. Great characters and an intriguing plot. I really enjoyed this book.
I enjoy reading romance novels that involve godly men and women. I also enjoy the mystery part of Gayle Roper’s books. I love the happily-ever-after at the end of her books. Her questions and personal note at the end of this book was a great touch.
Loved it I finished the first book and immediately started this one with the intent to finish it in a few days. Didn't work that way. Laundry abandoned. To-do list untouched. Had to read to the end. How was I to know that this fantastic book was going to pull me to #3. (See review.) Gayle Roper -- God's hand was on you when you wrote this series. I've been blessed.
Palisades Romance books - it's what got me hooked on Christian fiction in the first place! If I went back and read them now, they would probably seem cheesy. But I loved them back in high school. It was better than the smut books I'd BEEN reading!
