Savage and Evie. What a pair.
I have loved Savage since the first time he appeared earlier in the Tarnished Angels series. He might look like a force to be reckoned with, but when it comes to the people he loves he is nothing more than a giant teddy bear. Savage is loyal, protective, and the type of man who would do absolutely anything for his family and friends.
Evie is the complete opposite in background but matches him perfectly in spirit. She is a survivor of a traumatic upbringing, and to say she has been through a lot would be an understatement. Despite everything she has endured, Evie remains strong, hopeful, and determined to keep moving forward.
Going into this book, I honestly did not expect to love it as much as I did. Yet once I started reading, I could not stop. I finished it in one sitting in less than six hours. This series had me hooked from the first book all the way to this final one.
The spice in this story fits naturally within the plot and emotional journey of the characters, something Emma Slate consistently does well throughout the series. One of my favorite tropes appears in this book as well, the pregnancy trope. Even though Evie is pregnant with another man’s child from a previous relationship, Savage does not hesitate. He steps up immediately and makes it clear that he will take care of both Evie and the baby. That moment said everything about who Savage is as a character.
I also enjoyed seeing more of the Jackson brothers throughout the story, though I still wish we had gotten even more of them. At the same time, this series has never been afraid to show loss. Watching another side character disappear from the story was painful, especially since I had secretly hoped Acid might eventually get a book of his own. Sometimes stories remind us that not every character gets the ending we hope for.
Emma Slate has a way of creating characters and stories that pull you in and refuse to let go. I also enjoyed the mention of Huckleberry Hill, which is part of another series and a fun connection for readers familiar with Emma Slate’s wider world.
More than anything, I am sad to see this series end. I have loved Emma Slate’s writing style and the world of the Tarnished Angels from the very beginning, and I honestly wish the story could continue forever.
