This entry in the "Explore the Countries" series from ABDO provides a brief introduction to Sweden, describing its history, geography, cities, plants and animals, resources, and culture. The writing is clear and direct, if a little general, and the photographs are well-chosen. Captions and side-bars provide additional information, while pronunciation guides provide clues to how certain words are said correctly. Each title in the series includes a brief timeline, famous faces and a tour book that highlights places to go and things to do. Overall, a nice, basic introduction to the country for younger students.

While I'm sure this is a great book for young children to have an introduction to Sweden, as an adult who has read several J-Fic books about foreign countries this one overall was a disappointment. I didn't know the font was so large when I selected it from the library! I learned literally 3 interesting facts, but I can't say I have a grasp on Sweden nor its people nor its culture. I will need to check carefully in the future for books on Sweden.
