"The Essential Library of the U.S. Military, The Navy", is an informative nonfiction book about life in the Navy. Susan E. Hamen provides lots of pictures in this book with captions by almost every picture to help us get a better understanding as to what is in the picture. There are eight chapters in this book and each one discusses a different topic of the Navy, for example, chapter four is about the role of the U.S. Navy and chapter eight is about life in the U.S. Navy. There is a timeline provided for those reading the book in the back, it starts in 1775 when the Navy was established and goes up to 2004. I would have to say that the genre for this nonfiction is informational because it provided facts about a variety of things involving the Navy. I would say that the target audience for this book would be more upper elementary level book, fifth or sixth grade, because at this time they are aware of what the Navy is and what the military is, now they can learn more about these specific things.
While I was looking through this nonfiction book, it reminded me of a story that one my nephews has, this fiction story is called "Sometimes We Were Brave". This story is about a young boy who's mom is in the Navy and they do lots of fun things together when she is home, but when she is away on her ship, he tries to stay as brave as possible with his dog Duffy. This goes with my nonfiction book very well because my nonfiction book discusses what the Navy is all about and my fiction book actually tells the story of a young boy who's mother is going through many of things while he is waiting for her to come home. Both my nonfiction book and fiction book deal with the Navy.
