Nice photographs, perfect level for my daughter at the end of kindergarten. Probably still good for first grade as well. This is an easy to read nonfiction book, only a few sentences per page.
Part of the ABDO Kids Sharks series, Basking Sharks provides very basic information about basking sharks. Geared towards the K-2 grade range, the book features simple sentences (1 or 2 per page) and bright photographs that take up the remainder of the two-page spread. The facts are easy to digest, if a bit general, and the pictures are very well chosen, creating a fun and easy to understand nonfiction title. Words included in the glossary are highlighted throughout the text and the "More Facts" section at the end will appeal to older children reading the book. By entering the ABDO Kids Code provided, readers can access additional content, including a video, printable activities, and websites for further information. A worthy addition to the 597's.
These large format books are very popular with my beginning readers (PreK-1). Two to three sentences per page offer simple facts and the opposite page presents an attention grabbing photograph. I sometimes use them to teach non-fiction text features to lower grades. They have a table of contents, glossary, headings, and an index. Also included is an access code for abdokids.com for crafts, games, videos, and more.
My 8 year old son recently borrowed this book from his school library. He is currently in the 2nd grade.
This book has 1-2 easy text sentences per page, giving brief information on basking sharks. Information like feeding, how they got their name, and their pups. There are also colorful photographs that go with the information given.
My son needed no help with reading or understanding the information given in this book.
