Third Coast Medical

Hating the Emergency Physician: Jeremiah and Rachel's Enemies to Lovers Workplace Romance

Rate this book
Nurse Rachel Adabi has hated Dr. Jeremiah Thompson since he waltzed into her Emergency Department and tossed her cookies, quite literally. Stuck working the 24-hour Thanksgiving shift after her sisters abandon her to create their own traditions, she assumes she’ll have to balance patient care with prank warfare.

But when Jeremiah rolls in with his 8-year-old nephew, Rachel doesn’t know what to expect. Is this self-absorbed cookie destroyer really the caring, selfless guardian to his orphan nephew? Does this family of two have something to teach her about where she belongs?

This enemies-to-lovers, slow burn, workplace romance is perfect for fans of The Hating Game and E.R.

All Third Coast Medical Romances are standalones with a guaranteed HEA and no cheating in every story.

***This novella takes place after Smitten with the Orthopedic Surgeon, but the series can be read in any order with minimal spoilers (It's romance, you know they live HEA ;) ***

This novella was originally part of the Sweet and Swoony Holiday Anthology, as such it will not be in KU.

This novella was such a fun read! I needed a break from my longer books, so I picked this up, and I’m so glad I did. The banter and back and forth were so much fun, and the enemies-to-lovers dynamic, combined with forced proximity, made for great tension. There was such a thin line between love and hate with these two, and once they crossed it... the chemistry was undeniable!

Rachel and Jeremiah have been at odds since he transferred to the hospital over a year ago. What started as a rocky coworker relationship quickly turned into playful pranks and teasing nicknames. But when they're stuck working a 24-hour shift together over the holidays, they begin to realize they might have more in common than they thought. Maybe they don’t actually hate each other, maybe its quite the opposite?!

This is a sweet, fast-paced romance, maybe a little too fast for me to fully believe their feelings, but perhaps those emotions were there all along, just hidden beneath the banter and pranks.

Either way, I’d definitely recommend this one! And don’t skip the bonus epilogue, I loved it!

This quick, clean read was a fun one with Rachel (an ER nurse) and Jeremiah , an ER Specialist Physician (aka Dr Crumb Bum) being enemies at work in the same Dept. These two have taken a disliking to one another from their first meeting and are constantly playing pranks on one another, which was rather amusing.

They both land up working the Thanksgiving holiday and overnight their relationship changes when they actually get to know each other better and their lines of communication open up when Rachel helps Jeremiah out with Jackson, his nephew.

Guardianship of Jackson was thrust upon Jeremiah unexpectedly and both of them are still struggling to work through their strained relationship and Rachel is able to help out when Jackson takes an instant liking to her. And both Jeremiah and Rachel discover that the other has deep, broken parts to them that they can help soothe.

Rachel is a take charge lady and no pushover but she is lonely and has expectations of her sisters that with Jeremiah's help, she realises may be shadowed by her own misperceptions. Jeremiah is battling with handling a child in his extremely stressful and busy schedule, and welcomes Rachel's help but allows his uncertainties to put a damper on their budding relationship.

This story ends on a "happy for now" and was an endearing story.

With sign-up to the author's newsletter, a bonus epilogue is available where the reader can choose the book's ending which I thought was a fun way to read more about these two main characters. I tried a few possibilities and enjoyed all the endings that I chose - what a novel idea!

This is an Enemies to Lovers, small town romance.

Nurse Rachel had to work a 24hour shift at the hospital on Thanksgiving. When Dr. Jeremiah walked in with his 8 year old nephew, she was not happy to have to work with him. They have a Hating relationship. They play pranks on each other all the time. But when she worked with him the first time he sat on her oatmeal raisin cookies. Then had the nerve to throw them away. That's when it all started .
When they finally had time to talk on Thanksgiving they both realized they really didn't hate eachother. Jeremiah told her he was sorry and she is his favorite nurse and wouldn't be able to get through long nights without her. He told her the pranks are the best part of every shift together,
She was there to help with his nephew Jackson while he worked. They built a bond together since both of their parents died when they were young.
I really did enjoy this book and highly recommend it to everyone who like a pallet cleanser with clean romance.

I think this may be a case of it's not you, it's me, seeing as I'm the only who disliked this book...

I probably shouldn't have read it seeing as I hate the theme of enemies to lovers, but I wanted to try a new author and it was a free read. But, I really hate enemies to lovers. Why? Because it turns adults into children. Prank wars in my opinion are immature and juvenile and I don't care if the characters recognize that they are overreacting and being juvenile. If you can admit that you're acting juvenile why don't you try to change the behavior? No matter how many times Rachel realized she was acting like a child she kept doing it anyway. I don't think it's funny, I don't think it's cute, and I definitely don't think it's romantic.

So most definitely a me thing. I'm glad everyone else enjoyed it!

Entertaining romance that is well told. Heartfelt, good characters. Humor included along with some pretty good pranks. As a retired RN, I lived the reality of working in a hospital and I appreciate the story was well researched. This short story is a great beach read.

I received an advanced copy of Daphne Dyer's book and this volume of the Third Coast Medical Romance Series was so adorable. I was captured by the storyline between Jeremiah and Rachel from the first pages. So much transpired within a twenty-four-hour work shift. Dyer has created down-to-earth characters that experience real-life issues. I love Dyer's creativity and writing style. The pace of this book is wonderful, nothing is rushed. It is filled with joy, pain, love, drama, and family. You will want to get the whole series. This book left me with a smile and warm fuzzies.

I can't shout my EXCITEMENT loud enough for literally all of Daphne's books. This novel is no different. It's such a fun, romantic, interesting, sexy and everything in between medical romance book that has the best characters. The cover is an eye catcher right off the bat. I would absolutely recommend this author to ANYONE. In fact, I absolutely plan on doing just that.
