About the author

J.R. Ryder is a newly self published author who had always loved poetry, fantasy with his head in the clouds. J.R. currently lives in sunny Southern California, where after 17 longs years in the United States Marine Corps he was able to retire. J.R. Ryder was the dorky kid that was always made fun of growing up because he always had a story to tell or a poem to write to someone. So after years of bullying he set it aside and locked it away. Sports was his outlet, where football became his new passion. J.R. Ryder, wasn't your all American athlete nor was he built to play beyond high school. After High School, he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps as engineer mechanic. He spent 17 years of faithful service, serving our country. J.R. has 3 Combat deployments that we are all aware of to include an array of humanitarian missions. After retirement from the Marine Corps, J.R. struggled to find his place or find his new belonging. Going from job after job, nothing seemed to fit his personality or need. This caused J.R. to fall in a low. Depression was real. J.R. also had to come to terms with himself that he was broken. Needing an outlet J.R. Ryder found an old passion that he thought was long gone. His writing's. After gaining attention on Social media, he decided to give it a chance. His writing passion has always been romance. J.R. Ryder put out his first book Nightstand Desires with erotic short stories to allow the reader to go on a journey with him and explore his mind. J.R. Ryder's goal with his books, is to share his mind and to take you on a journey and explore the creative mind the universe has blessed him with and inspire closet writers that anything is possible!

This book was something else!! Lol! Every time I thought I had it figured out a little more, the pieces would shift, and a new situation would arise that set me back. Our main characters cross paths at our opening and quickly kick off their connection. They don't seem to be your typical dark romance leads, and everything progresses forward smoothly. Then, all of a sudden, you are hit with your first spicy scene and a plot twist you didn't see coming! Once that happens, everything starts full steaming a head. Our lead characters start to make heavy contrasted choices that darken the vibe they carried in the beginning, and the game of cat mouse is a back and forth when suddenly you aren't sure who is the cat and who is the mouse! I love how things went from somewhat simple crossings to a dark party that led to a major twist in our story that I wasn't expecting. You go from what feels like one story to a much darker sinister situation that has you wondering how Dylan and Emily will figure out the board they are now thrust into playing, but by who they don't know? This book is insanely spicy. There are lots of spicey scenes, but the underlying plot is so creative. There were so many layers to this story, and it just kept getting more twisted. Exactly how I like my Dark Romance. In the end.... well, our couple made quite the choice, and it looks like in the future, we will be getting another book and be able to see just how that choice turns out! I can't wait!

If you like thriller twisted plots and LOTS of spice, this is a great one.

This book was not at all what I expected. It is a dark romance and darker than I thought it was going to be. You have some betrayal and some manipulation. At the end you get some twists and turns. I sort of saw it coming, but told myself I was delirious…but I was right about my suspicion. It all begins in a Barnes and Noble, be careful who you meet at the book store. 😂 Dylan has his own dark side with a bit of a dark past as well. He is very jealous and the FMC Emily is also very jealous and possessive too. Both MC’s are slightly unhinged. There is plenty of spice that happens. The book is about 16 chapters, so it is a fairly short smutty and dark read. Tropes: Touch them and 💀, OTTJP, Morally Grey characters, secret identity, strangers to lovers, he falls first, and slight stalking. I would have liked a bit more back story into both of the characters, we did get some on Dylan which was nice. There is also a second part of this that might have more character development, cause I feel like we are just getting started with these two. There was some editing mishaps, but it was easily overlooked and didn’t prevent me from enjoying this story. Overall I enjoyed myself and liked it.

unexpected

I was pleasantly surprised by how captivating and engaging this book was, especially since I went in blind. I always appreciate novels with unique perspectives and intriguing storytelling, particularly those written by male authors. This book drew me in and kept me hooked from beginning to end.

This definitely took me for a ride. The suspense and twists and turns were amazing. I devoured this book because I wanted to know what was going to happen next. J.R Ryder definitely wrote one amazing story and I can't wait to read more by him.

Potential

This story has great bones, but it could do with a rewrite, stretch it out a little. Throw in some extended editing and proof reading and I'm sure it could go far. I love the possibilities this book could have.
