Tropes: MFC saves MMC's life, opposites attract, murder mystery
Steam level: 3-4
Part of a series, works OK as a standalone.

This is the first book I've read in this series and enjoyed it overall. The writing is generally strong and the world-building is good. Its biggest strength, though, is the MC's and their complementary chemistry. I loved that Audrey is the level-headed one, a smart and non-missish miss who is dedicated to being a healer, while Julius is a Casanova fan; a bit wild, unpredictable and colorful with some sadness in his past that he takes pains to hide. Their interactions together are a lot of fun, and you believe in them as a couple.

On the flipside, while I really liked Audrey and Julius, much of the storyline focused on their relationship and their individual ruminations about its progression, with the mystery taking a backseat for the most part. I was slightly disappointed by the cliffhanger and how the urgency to apprehend the villain, which is presumably a central element of this series, sort of faded toward the end. If you're a big HR/mystery fan, just be aware that this is fairly light on the mystery and the plot will take off in a new direction in the next book.

One other caveat: purple prose. I'm not a fan, and while the steam here is nicely spicy, some of the language was overdone and took me out of the scenes. Usually direct and to the point is best.

Bottom line: you'll cheer on Audrey and Julius, even if the mystery plot stalls out toward the end.

I read an advanced reader copy of this book and this is my voluntary review. Thanks to the author, publisher, and the author for this opportunity.

I liked this book, I read the last(5-8) 3 books in fairly quick succession, they should be read in order and literally no time passes between the end of one and the start of the next. Lord Julius Tafford is portrayed as a bit of a silly fop in the first two books (well he gets a bit more likeable in the 2nd). We learn much more about Julius and his family and they are all much more likeable by the end of the book. The leading lady in this story is a medically gifted orphan who chooses to save Julius's life at risk of her own ruination. They do make significant progress on the murder mystery (maybe…). It's a good story that held my interest I will definitely finish the series.

Another great story in the series, definitely should be read in order as the thread runs through the series. Julius and Audrey are thrown together in difficult circumstances and Julius wants to do the right thing but doesn't want to follow in his father's footsteps and have a miserable marriage. Really enjoyed this ARC and I leave this review voluntarily.

Thanks to BookSirens for a copy of this ebook and this is my freely given opinion.

This is Book 8 of Inconvenient Brides/Book 3 of Inconvenient Scandals, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This continues the murder mystery investigation started after the murder of the baron in Long Live the Baron, and revolves around the character of Lord Julius Trafford. He is the good friend and cohort of Lord Brendan Ridley. After Ridley was accused of the baron's murder and his and his wife's lives and safety were threatened, Julius has thrown his all into helping solve the mystery of who is behind these acts. In the previous stories, Julius Trafford was characterized as a carefree, feckless rake who cares only for pleasure. The opposite of his father, a serious lord who takes his duty to his country and government very seriously, above his own family.

This story delves into the continuing mystery of the barons murder, but also explores Trafford's family history and the source of his fractious relationship with his father, which was what built his character as he strove to be the opposite of his pater. It helps to paint a more empathic picture of Trafford, as he came across as a bit of a careless, superficial jerk often in preceding stories - despite the fact that his loyalty and love for his friends was very obvious.

Audrey Gideon is a young woman coming out of mourning for her beloved father. He was a talented country doctor, trusted and employed by the Earl of Stirling. Audrey was his apprentice, following him on his care about the town and estate, and learning at his side. It was a terrible loss when she lost him suddenly and was orphaned. But she was taken up by the Earl as his ward and brought to London. But she misses the country and is uncertain of her future. She is hopeful of being accepted into a society or guild that would accept women to continue her love of healing and medicine, and return to Stirling to continue her father's work. But Audrey is not certain if Lord Stirling would support this plan for her future.

Lord Stirling, only being exposed to Julius's scorn and superficial facade, calls him to account, and Audrey becomes an inadvertent witness to their family secrets and broken relationships as Julius throws his father's own failings back in his face. This leads Stirling to leave London on a sudden mission to the Continent, with plans for Audrey to be chaperoned by a notorious gossip and high stickler of the Ton.

Audrey and Julius seem to be opposites, but when Julius enacts a rash plan to expose the murderer from his three suspects and is the target of an attack in front of the Stirling home. Audrey, as she is getting ready to leave for her new chaperones home, comes across him and cannot leave the injured man without aiding him. They are forced to take refuge nearby, while
Audrey helps Trafford in his recovery. Unfortunately this leads to her ruined reputation as she and Trafford are rumoured to have run off together.

Julius is fearful of being caught in a marriage. Despite his growing affection and attraction to Audrey, and his desire to give her the protection of his name, he is determined to keep it a marriage of convenience. In their time together, Audrey learns that there is much more to Julius than his superficial facade of pleasure seeking rake; that he is warm, affectionate, loyal and respectful and appreciative of her mind and skills. Julius learns that Audrey is smart as well as beautiful and includes her in the circle of friends he holds dear. But he is fearful of it becoming more and ruining their friendship. He has very wrongheaded beliefs about love and marriage, being a witness to the breakdown of his parents marriage over the years and is fearful of his own future marriage breaking down and ruining his and Audrey's life. Because of his own wrongful beliefs and misgivings, he almost ruins his and Audrey's future.

I really appreciated the development of Trafford's background and character and also the story of his family and it's resolution. It gives him so much more depth than he appeared to have before. It made me feel for the poor boy he was before, not understanding the breakdown in his family and the loss of his affectionate, smiling father over the years. Hopefully, after the resolution of the murder mystery, this means a future of love and affection for him with his family and Audrey in the future.

Not Enough Romance in this “Regency Mystery Romance”

I've read a lot of books by this author, and generally, I have found them well done. In fact, I would consider her one of my favorite contemporary Regency authors. However, this book did disappoint me. I loved how it kept one prior couple of the series in the forefront, a couple whose story I thoroughly enjoyed reading. The hero is a good friend of that gentleman, and what sparks the suspense/mystery element is his great care for his friend and his imperiled bride. But I felt the romance in this book didn't start until too far into the book. The focus was on the mystery/suspense aspect of the story, not the romance. While I do like that many Regency romances are now starting to incorporate suspense elements, the romance should be the focus of a romance! Even if the hero—as far too many are—is not looking for marriage, preferring the pleasures of a single, dissolute life without the encumbrance of a family. Part of the charm of that type of romance is when such a hero gets his head (and heart) completely turned around by the heroine! I quite liked the heroine in this book. She was still rather docile, as appropriate for a gently bred lady of her time, yet she had incredible backbone and intelligence. Through her bravery, she saves the hero more than once! And her physician father had taught her some of his trade and had her assist with his patients. She certainly comes across as a very competent and knowledgeable physician's assistant.

As a nurse with an incredible fascination about the evolution of medicine, I was disappointed that the author included aspects of medicine that certainly were not “the thing” back in George IV’s reign (the former Prince Regent for whom the Regency era is named). While I certainly believe the author researched some ancient Roman and Chinese medical methods, which the heroine supposedly studied with her father, when the author had the heroine wash her hands before assisting with the hero’s slash wound, I had to shake my head. The importance of hand washing certainly was not appreciated by the medical establishment of the early 1820s. In fact, they fought its importance even up to the early days of surgeon Lister and microbiologist Louis Pasteur in the 1850s and 1860s. The medical establishment even castigated and eventually made a little mad Ignaz Semmelweis, who firmly believed that hand washing was important for physicians as they moved from working in the morgue to assisting with childbirth. But I digress, as I often do, on this very important topic to me!

If the romantic aspect had been at least as much in the forefront, if not more, than the suspense element, I would have enjoyed this story by this talented author much more. As it was not, though, I did not enjoy it as much as I typically do of her stories. If you've been following along with this series, you will enjoy how it picks up the threads of the overarching mystery/suspense and will enjoy seeing how a previous series couple is getting along. If you are completely new to the series and are just hoping for your next best Regency read, you may prefer to go back to the beginning of the series to some of the better books.

Lord Trafford’s Folly is the 3rd book in the Inconvenient Scandals series by Nina Jarrett, but can also be read as a stand-alone. It is a steamy Regency suspense romance.

Lord Julius Trafford has charm in spades and purpose in short supply—he’s the very picture of idle nobility. When a scandalous murder rocks the ton and a close friend is accused, Julius agrees to help investigate, expecting little more than a brief diversion from his boredom. But what begins as a lark quickly spirals out of control—and straight into danger. Miss Audrey Gideon has always balanced propriety with quiet independence. She never imagined she’d find herself on the run with a man like Lord Trafford. But when he’s violently attacked before her eyes, her instincts drive her to protect him—even if it means placing herself in peril. With enemies closing in and secrets coming to light, Julius and Audrey must fight to stay ahead of those who seek to silence them. But as danger draws them closer, can they escape with their lives—and surrender to the love that’s been waiting all along?

It is a story packed with danger, desire, and heart. The writing style of the author is smooth, evocative, and full of period flavor without feeling weighed down by historical detail. The pacing of the story is spot-on, and the character voices feel distinct and authentic. The plot has the right balance of romance and suspense. The murder mystery backdrop adds real stakes to their flight from danger, and while it never overpowers the romance, it keeps the pacing brisk. There are moments of humor, tension, and even a few surprisingly emotional scenes. The book starts as a typical bored-nobleman-turns-hero story, but quickly turns into a suspenseful and heartfelt journey, with two very compelling leads. Lord Julius Trafford (one of my favorite characters in this whole series so far) is delightfully frustrating at first - charming, flippant, and far too pleased with himself. But as the plot unfolds, you start to see the cracks in his polished veneer. His growth throughout the story is interesting to follow. As the layers peel back, we also see a strong sense of loyalty and sharp wit that he’s been hiding beneath his careless charm. Watching him transition from a self-absorbed aristocrat into someone genuinely willing to risk everything for someone else and get over his fears is really satisfying. Miss Gideon, on the other hand, is a standout from the beginning. She’s smart, grounded, and has this quiet strength that holds everything together when chaos hits. I loved that she wasn’t just some damsel being rescued - if anything, she is the one keeping her knight in shining armor alive more than once. Their dynamic is electric, and the slow-burn tension between them kept me flipping pages.

So, if you enjoy Regency romance with a touch of danger, the book is well worth the read. I am really looking forward to reading the next book in this series.

The Adventures of Julius and Audrey

“Lord Trafford’s Folly” written by the extremely talented author Nina Jarrett is a book that belongs to two series. This is book 8 of the Inconvenient Brides series and book 3 of a spin off series Inconvenient Scandals. In case this is daunting, this book can be read as a stand-alone mystery romance or you can pick it up at the beginning of the murder that has the group of nobles and their wives on edge as they hunt for the perpetrator. This would be “Long Live the Baron (book 6 of Inconvenient Brides or book 1 of Inconvenient Scandals). It sounds more confusing than it is. I have read the series from the very beginning, throughout the series Nina Jarrett has done a wonderful job of building her world full of interesting characters and romantic storylines. In this offering we have Lord Julius Trafford, an Earl’s heir. He is a wonderfully colorful character in his clothes and demeanor. He believes he can discover the culprit on his own but doesn’t entirely think it through. He is attacked and nearly killed by a knife wound. To his rescue is Audrey Gideon, who attacks the culprit with a sword in order to save Trafford. Julius is fortunate to have Audrey, his father’s ward, treating him. Audrey apprenticed at the side of her father in the healing arts, dispensing ancient remedies as opposed to what was considered modern but was little more than butchery and bloodletting. This is a great story with great characters. I like a strong intelligent female lead and a male lead who respects the woman and what she stands for. This fits the bill. Audrey doesn’t curtail Julius’ actions but gets him to slow down a bit and consider all the angles through to a possible outcome while Julius helps Audrey tap into her adventurous spirit going so far as to helping her dress up as a man so she can experience a man’s domain. The passion between these two builds throughout the story, leading to extremely steamy, open door scenes. This story moves right along and doesn’t lag. We see lead characters from other books in the series play a supporting, but important, role in this book. Julius begins to see his parents in a different light as he considers the impending scandal facing Audrey for her courageous actions. He was determined never to marry after witnessing the declining marriage of his parents. Julius and Audrey have an important task in front of them —to decide the future. But not before they and their friends uncover who murdered the former Baron Filminster and locate the long lost unnamed heir. Highly recommended, extremely enjoyable.

Lord Trafford’s Folly is the third book in Nina Jarrett’s Inconvenient Scandals series and runs concurrently with the events in book two. The series has an over arcing mystery running through it so even though this can be read as a standalone romance it’s worth reading the first two to get an understanding of the events and the circumstances of Julius’s search for a murderer.
Lord Julius Trafford is often seen as a bit of a dandy, living a carefree life with very little responsibility. When his friend is accused of patricide, he throws himself into the investigation because it gives him a sense of purpose – something that has been missing in his life. Following the leads, he makes impulsive decisions that end up with quite severe consequences. One such scheme ends with him being stabbed outside his house and only the quick thinking and bravery of his father’s ward, Miss Audrey Gideon, saves him.
Forced to go into hiding together, Julius and Audrey discover hidden depths to each other. Audrey sacrifices her reputation to nurse him back to health. But will Julius have time to do the honourable thing by Audrey or will the killer catch up to them?
I have really loved this series. I have read all of Nina’s previous books and I love her writing and the world she has built. Julius and Audrey are again really fleshed out characters and well matched as a pair. This time it is Audrey that lends gravitas to Julius’s often impulsive schemes. She brings out the best in Julius and makes him realise that there can be more to his life and he can be the man he wants to be – rather than the one he thinks he is expected to be.
I love that Audrey has a purpose in her life and her struggles to be recognised and are real and realistic to the time period. It was a bit frustrating that Julius took so long to actually tell Audrey he will do the honourable thing when he had decided it pretty early on. I also loved that his parents’ marriage was not as he thought and there was a happy resolution to their troubles. To be honest, maybe a letter to his mother might have cleared things up earlier! But as his mother said they were ‘raised to not speak their minds’.
I loved the involvement of the previous heroes/heroines and we come very close to unveiling the real culprit. The mystery is not completely resolved and I am excited to see the series continue with the prime suspect as our hero in the next book!
I received an advanced review copy, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. I loved Julius and Audrey and definitely recommend this to all.

Lord Trafford’s Folly is the third book in Nina Jarrett’s Inconvenient Scandals series, I love this series! The author has me totally intrigued and anxiously awaiting the next book.

We were introduced to Lord Julius Trafford, earlier in the series. He appears to be a dandy, his mode of dress is quite colorful, just like his personality, but looks can be deceiving. He is angry about the attacks on his friend’s wife, and offers to help them solve the mystery of who murdered the former Baron Filminster, and determine who is the long lost unknown heir.

Unfortunately, he recklessly sets a trap to draw out the villain, but instead he is attacked with a knife and nearly dies. Audrey Gideon, his father’s ward finds him and treats his injury, she nurses him until he is recovered. Audrey is knowledgeable about healing through the training she received from her father, who was a country doctor. Her greatest desire is to continue her deceased father’s work, he disagreed with many current doctor’s practices and she wants to share his medical wisdom and provide other options.

Julius and Audrey work together to continue the quest to find the guilty party. Julius refuses to acknowledge the feelings he has for Audrey, even though he will do the right thing. His misconstrued notions about his parents relationship has him determined not to fall in love with her.

Audrey sees Julius for the person he is beyond his outward appearance, he may be impetuous, but he is smart, caring and hides his true feelings. The author wrote the clarification of his parents relationship wonderfully. It was hilarious when Julius comes to terms with his ridiculous wrong assumptions about his parents marriage and finally knows exactly what he wants from Audrey.

This story was fast paced, it had adventure, delightful outings on the sly, with Audrey dressed as a man, humorous situations, simmering sexual tension, secrets, friendship, evolving personas, drama, intrigue, romance, a villain, and the mystery to solve being the driving force for their collaboration.

I recommend reading the series in order to fully understand all that has transpired. We are so close to bringing the villain to justice and tying up all loose ends up, so even though the books ends with a cliffhanger, I’m okay with that because I want more of this captivating series.

A Lovely Couple

I really enjoyed this mystery romance. The plot is well written and captivating with some twists, humor, suspense and steam. It runs parallel and overlaps with the previous books in the series. Audrey and Julius are endearing characters and a perfect match. She is just the right person to tame his headstrong character with her level-headed but helpful behavior. I really liked Julius in the previous books in the series and it was nice to finally find out why he behaves the way he does. It was also nice to meet some of the previous protagonists again.

As the story refers to earlier events in the series, I do not recommend reading this installment on its own.
Beware, there’s a cliffhanger.

Ever since his mother and sister left the rest of the family to live in France due to his father's neglect, Lord Julius Trafford has rebelled against his strict father, Lord Stirling, who prioritises his work for the Crown over his family, by acting like a superficial, eccentric dandy.
Julius has no intention of maturing or falling in love, let alone getting married. He certainly doesn't want to enter into an unhappy marriage like his parents'. However, his friends have recently had to marry due to scandals and he feels left alone and bored. So he decides to set a trap for the murderer of Brendan Ridley's father and puts himself in danger.

Audrey Gideon loved her life in the country assisting her father with his work as physician but then her father died and she became the ward of his friend, the Earl of Stirling who brought her to London which she despises.

When the Earl sets off on a trip abroad and Audrey is to be sent to live with a chaperone during his absence, she witnesses Julius being attacked and almost killed by a stranger. She rushes to his aid and hides with him to look after him, even though she realises that this will ruin her reputation. Together they set off in search of the murderer...

If you like a mix of historical romance and murder mystery, eccentric heroes and strong heroines, you will certainly enjoy this story!

Lord Traffords Folly

This third book of the Inconvenient Scandals series or the eighth book of the Inconvenient Brides series-depending on how you’re keeping track- sees the superficial foppish Lord Julius, Trafford, heir to the Earl of Stirling and the honorary Viscount of Trafford, finally mature and become a better person.

Orphan Audrey Gideon has been trained in the healing arts by her incredibly forward-thinking father, a doctor who, during his lifetime, eschewed many of the contemporary (1821) practices. Audrey wants to gain her majority, access her inheritance, and return to the small village of Stirling so she can pick up her father’s medical practice and somehow have his theories published. Being the ward of the Earl of Sterling makes that a little tricky, plus being in the same house as her childhood crush hasn’t been easy.

Audrey and Julius go into hiding after she saves his life from villains who attacked him in front of their townhome. She then nurses him back to health, and they develop feelings for each other.

There’s a bit of steam, two explicit on-page love scenes, and at least one off-page love scene has been alluded to. However, this story primarily centers on eliminating some of the suspects established at the end of book 2 in the murder of the Baron of Filmister.

While the first few chapters summarize what happened in the previous two books, it’s probably best to read the last two books, Long Live the Baron and Moonlight Encounter. You might even want to go back to read the Inconvenient Brides books that proceed Long Live the Baron, where many of the characters originate in the background of those stories.

I’m going to be honest. I love the cover of this book. It’s probably my favorite thing about the book. The story was good, and we’re closer to figuring out the overarching mystery. However, I am feeling a little bored overall, and I’d like to see some resolution to the mystery. I already have a feeling I know who the culprit is. I don’t know how they accomplished it. But I won’t speculate or be a spoiler.

As a fan of Nina Jarrett’s Inconvenient Scandals series, I couldn’t resist diving into Lord Trafford's Folly when it was released. Having followed the unfolding murder mystery from previous books, I was eager to see the story of Lord Julius Trafford, whose cameos hinted at a complex yet playful character. In true Jarrett fashion, she didn’t disappoint—this regency romance is brimming with charm, adventure, and a dash of scandal.

Lord Trafford, with his Casanova reputation, proved to be a delightfully layered protagonist. Seeing him navigate his mischief of finding the murderer while becoming smitten with Lady Audrey was a journey worth savoring. Lady Audrey’s strength and independence, evident from the start when she defends him from an assassin, make her a wonderful match for Julius. Her resilience and cleverness, even dressing as a man in certain scenes, brought a fresh and daring twist to the regency genre. For fans like me who crave a bit of rule-breaking, this was a highlight!

One of the joys of reading Jarrett’s work is her attention to historical details. She brings the regency era to life with subtle yet telling details—period medical practices, for example, are worked seamlessly into the story. She even included quotes from Casanova, adding an extra layer of wit to the romance. The book’s atmospheric backdrop, coupled with gossiping members of the ton, created an immersive setting that made Lord Trafford’s story all the more engaging.

The chemistry between Julius and Audrey is electric, with plenty of UST, especially during scenes where she tends to his wounds. Their growing affections are complex, realistic, and a true testament to Jarrett’s skill with character dynamics. As their relationship evolves, the reader is drawn deeply into their emotional journey.

Overall, Lord Trafford’s Folly is a wonderful blend of intrigue, romance, and adventure. For any fan of regency romance, or those who enjoy watching strong, unconventional heroines shake up the social scene, this book is a must-read. Jarrett has delivered yet another compelling romance in the Inconvenient Scandals series—one that left me fully satisfied and eagerly awaiting more.

I love this series and the way that Nina Jarrett weaves the storyline effortlessly around her characters. I am always drawn to a historical mystery and the underlying hit of danger! Lord Trafford's Folly is the 3rd book in the Inconvenient Scandals Series and the mystery introduced in Book 1 continues to drive the actions of the main characters. Lord Trafford is a different sort of Male Main Character as he dresses foppishly, takes nothing seriously and never wants to marry. He seems to be a Peter Pan in his group of friends. The Female Main character is the quiet, intelligent healer, Audrey Gibson who is the ward of Lord Trafford's father. After her doctor father's death, Lord Stirling brings her to his home where she grieves for her father and tries to envision the future.
Circumstances beyond their control have Audrey and Julius, Lord Trafford, hiding in his Aunt Gertrude's home and spending time together in a world of their making. Audrey sees the man beneath the peacock clothing and blasé attitude finding an intelligent, although, impulsive man.
This is one of the best father's ward's tropes I have read, and Audrey's knowledge of healing was fascinating. Nina Jarrett's books always have that something extra! The friendship between Julius and Audrey grew as they put their heads together to work out the mystery. I laughed at Julius's confusion as he struggled to understand his feelings and yelled as he refused to acknowledge or name his emotions.
Lord Trafford's Folly is an excellent book, well written and a fun read! Reading the previous books before this one would be preferable to fully understand the incident that is influencing the characters’ story. I am anxiously waiting for the next book!

Well, we are getting closer to finding out who the murderer is, but not without danger and complications. Julius, Viscount Trafford, wears brightly colored clothes, beds widows and mocks almost everybody and everything. But when he declares you a friend, he will move heaven and earth to keep you safe. He, Brendan and Aiden are investigating the murder of Brendan’s father. Since Aiden is newly married, and Brendan and his wife have been dealing with house invasions and attacks, Julius decided to take matters into his own hands. Having narrowed down the list suspects, Julius embarks on a course of action that winds up having him fighting for his life in front of his home. Luckily for him, his father’s ward Audrey, whose father was a doctor with whom she studied, comes to his rescue. They hide out at his aunt’s house while she treats his wound and resulting fever. Unfortunately, since Julius’ father was going out of town, Audrey was supposed to stay with Lady Astley, who made sure everyone knew that Audrey and Julius were both missing. As Julius and Audrey continue to investigate, they develop feelings for each other and things get a little complicated and steamy. In this story we learn the incidents and beliefs that have shaped Julius’ attitude and behavior. There are dangerous moments, close calls, clandestine meetings, bungled conversations, and a whole slew of surprises. It is always fun to watch a rake fall in love, and this story is no exception. Audrey is a delight, and the perfect woman for Julius. Hopefully the next book in the series will bring the murderer to justice.

A Rake is Snared

Let me say that it is imperative that readers start this series from the beginning, because the author cannot do justice to the previous characters’ contribution to the storyline in just one novel. This story deals with the mystery surrounding the death of Brendan Ridley’s uncle by an unknown assailant. While trying to solve this, two of the rakes, Brendan and Aidan, wind up getting married. Julius, Lord Trafford, is avoiding the parson’s noose, not because his friends have failed to do so, but because he’s trying to avoid the estranged marriage his parents have… until he meets Audrey Gideon, a physician’s daughter, who is also the ward of his father.

Her plans to become a member of the guild are derailed by attending to the injury sustained by Julius due to his reckless scheme to flush out the murderer.

The author has the most appealing MC’s in this series, this one included. Audrey is an intelligent independent young woman, a bluestocking, trying to forge a path forward for women in the healing arts. Julius is really immature gentleman/ rake although loyal to his friends. He refers to his parents as Lord Snarling and Lady Smiling. His hero is Giacomo Casanova. Unfortunately, the novel is filled with internal monologue of both MC’s. I would prefer more dialogue between the two MC’s . As the duo work to solve the mystery together, readers will enjoy the personal challenges they encounter as romance blooms. More dialogue and less “woe is me” from Julius would have garnered 5 stars. 🌟

The risk you encounter when reading any series is that you get attached to the characters. You actually get attached so much that even though their stories might drive you crazy, up to the point of wanting to close the book before it ends, you keep reading it….only to smile at the end for the silliness of the characters, the lack of essence in the plot and the lasting inexplicable feeling to keep wanting to read the next books when they finally solved a mystery pushed to far. It’s nonsensical to me how excited I get every time I see the release date of the following book and how invested I get when I start to read it.

This time is Lord Trafford’s moment to shine. Julius is the man child among the group and even though he wants to find the murderer of the Baron and protect his friends, his mistakes and lack of maturity will endanger his life and the life of his father’s ward. Audrey Gideon.

When Audrey’s father suddenly died, is Julius’ father, the Earl of Stirling who protects her. Dr. Gideon was an exceptional and advanced doctor for the time. He taught her daughter well enough to become an excellent doctor someday but because of her gender it seemed an impossible dream to achieve.

As they get involved in several adventures and dangerous activities, their feelings for each other begin to grow. Whether they have or not a happy future together, well… you will need to find out for yourself.

Close proximity, a thrilling mystery, undercover shenanigans, nursing back to health, a naughty heir and a brave birdie - what more can you wish for in a fabulous romance?!

She’s kind, clever and ever so curious having been raised by a single father, a country doctor, she picked up a lot of knowledge and her biggest wish is to continue her late father’s work, or at least make all his medical wisdom available to as many people as possible.
He’s a foppish heir, refusing to grow up as an act of rebellion and currently suffering ennui since all his close friends got married. Assisting them with an unsolved murder mystery might be something, and besides, no one touches his friends - or their wives!

Saving her guardian’s son from a deadly attack, Audrey and Julius’ futures becoming irrevocably entwined. They flee to his aunt’s house across the square - unchaperoned, save for his aunt’s housekeeper and butler - and once Julius is back on his feet, the investigation continues with Audrey as an eager sidekick.

This is an adventurous tale with lots of sneaking around and dressing up, humour, heart and sweet tension. Audrey’s devoted care to Julius’ well-being and their easy collaboration spark an irresistible attraction, and since he’s no angel and she already believes herself ruined, they give in - yummy funny steam ahead. He decides pretty early on he’s going to marry her; he only needs to figure out what kind of marriage he’s offering. Thanks to his parents mess-up he’s a bit of a dunce when it comes to his own heart, but he gets there in the end… in a not so gentlemanlike fashion.

Light and full of laughter, this was a brilliant, enthralling read! I love these characters! And don’t worry, there’s a fair bit of drama and some serious issues as well, but they don’t outshine the romance.

This is a thrilling blend of Regency romance, suspense, and a dash of wit. It's the third installment of the Inconvenient Scandals series and delivers a fast-paced and steamy tale of adventure, danger, and romance.
Lord Julius Trafford is a charming, yet bored heir to an earl, who is dragged into a dangerous situation after agreeing to help his friends solve a murder. What begins as a lighthearted diversion quickly spirals into life-threatening peril, and Julius' ward, Miss Audrey Gideon, becomes caught up in the whirlwind of danger. Julius must do all he can to keep them safe, all the while resisting his growing attraction to Audrey, whose intelligence and strength prove to be more than he initially anticipated.
The chemistry between Julius and Audrey is electric from the moment they are thrust into danger together. Audrey is equally determined to protect Julius and she begins to see beneath his foppish exterior and discovers a man of substance and resilience. Julius finds himself equally captivated by Audrey's wit, determination, and vulnerability. Their evolving relationship is both steamy and heartwarming, with the tension building as they navigate their perilous escape.
Although part of a series, it can easily be enjoyed as a standalone. With its endeafing characters, witty banter, and edge-of-your-seat suspense, this book is sure to satisfy if you're looking for a Regency romance with a touch of danger.

Lord Trafford's Folly is a historical romance by Nina Jarrett, it is a standalone romance but is the third book of the Inconvenient Scandals series (a spin off of the Inconvenient Brides series). I've really enjoyed this series, featuring dashing, commitment-phobe lords and feisty ladies.

Set in Regency era England, Lord Julius Trafford, who is the heir to the Earl of Stirling, and Audrey Gideon have known of each other for some time. After all, Audrey became the earl's ward after the death of her father. In fact, with the earl going away on a business trip, Audrey is about to the sent off to a matriarch of the ton who is sure to make her life difficult. But they didn't get to actually know each other until danger finds Julius and Audrey gets herself involved in order to save his life.

While there is mystery and intrigue, much of it stemming from previous books in this series (although there is more than enough context in this book to understand it), there is a lot going on with Audrey and Julius individually. Julius has a complicated history with his father which is explored. Audrey, who adored her father (who was a village physician), has a passion for healing and medicine. However, being a woman creates a roadblock for her.

I love their differences, because it makes the passion between Julius and Audrey seem so much stronger.

He vowed never to marry, believing how marriage can eventually ruin what initially promised to be a happy ever after. But when the right woman comes along, there is no fighting what is meant to be.

Of all the lords that figure in this series, I was most curious of all as to how Julius Trafford was finally going to be reigned in. He had always been a wild card, enjoying his bachelor status to the greatest possible extent without courting scandal. But when his life is threatened by his passionate pursuit of a murder investigation, an unlikely ally becomes the pivotal character to challenge his matrimonial views and alter the course of his life forever.

I liked Audrey Gideon so very much in this book. Ms. Jarrett was spot on in creating the perfect character to complement Julius' externally carefree yet internally guarded persona. As an aspiring physician, she had lived up to her role as healer with a passion even to the detriment of her reputation. And with the way she matched Julius's penchant for adventure and risk-taking, I loved how Julius eventually realized that Audrey was an even better friend and partner to him than his noble lord buddies. If only he hadn't been such a sod with his twisted views of marriage! Of course, that eventually gets straightened out in the end, and the perpetual bachelor was finally no more, replaced by one very besotted husband, lover, and partner.

Only seeing what he thought was real and closing his eyes to reason, Lord Trafford had been refusing to consider what fate was offering to him. Determined to help and trapped in what had become a dangerous mission, Lord Trafford discovered that he was not alone in the concerns that haunted him, but can he open his eyes in time, or would he lose what he has already gained? Miss Audrey Gideon found herself alone trying to navigate a current that seemed like she would never belong to. But Lord Julius Trafford made her feel capable, he offered her adventure and something else, like strong emotions, were beginning to develop between them, but could she break through his barriers, or would he be another disappointment in her life? I loved the character of Audrey, so vivid, inquisitive, skillful, and willing to not let herself be easily defeated. It impressed me how our hero, Lord Trafford, had been fighting with his fears by maintaining a facade that wasn't real. Interesting, entertaining and intriguing story with mystery, suspense, funny moments, informative, a villain lurking in the shadows, some violence, romance and passion. I've been looking forward to reading Lord Trafford's story for quite some time. He's been a supporting character in the last few books of this series. As a supporting character he was very funny and generally empty-headed. This time around, we get the chance to learn what he's really thinking. The author does a good job of back-tracking to the previous book. I thought that this would be helpful to new readers. As a returning reader, I appreciated the chance to refresh my memory.
Lord Julius Trafford was trying to help his friends solve a murder. He foolishly put himself in a very dangerous situation and nearly became the killer's next victim. Luckily Miss Audrey Gideon was there to save his life. After this incident, the two of them needed to go into hiding. Consequently, Audrey's reputation was irreparably damaged. So, what was a mutton-headed nobleman to do? The answer was perfectly obvious to everyone but him!
This story was lighthearted and easy to read. Lord Trafford was somewhat dense but he eventually got his act together in regard to the mystery as well as his love life.

While searching for the person who killed his friend’s father, Julius, Lord Trafford is injured during a fight with someone who followed him home. His father’s ward, Audrey Gideon, witnessed the fight and attempted to help Julius ward off the person he was fighting. Audrey has some medical knowledge and sutures his wound and watches over him while he is feverish. With her reputation in ruin since she has been nursing Julius back to health, Audrey decides she will return to her hometown to care for the people there. Julius knows he has to offer for Audrey but because of how his family life is he vowed to never marry. Will they be able to maintain a marriage of convenience with Audrey living in the country and Julius continuing his life as if he had no responsibilities to another or will they give in to the feelings that are developing between them? Lord Trafford’s Folly is another great installment in the series as a group of friends try to solve the murder of Baron Filminster, one of their friend’s father. I am looking forward to the next episode in the series to see what happens next.

I had become very curious about the story of Julius, this seamingly superficial and silly dandy, who had already appeared in previous stories. The reader was quickly able to discover that there was more to his charactert, and in this story his character and motives show as he continues his investigation into a murderer. He is assisted by Audrey, a ward of his father, after she accidentally gets involved. Naturally, they find their way to each other with the necessary obstacles. Characters emerge beautifully, the search for the killer becomes more and more exciting. Entertaining story, sometimes I was a bit annoyed by Julius rigid attitude, sometimes I didn't think everything made sense and I thought it was a pity that the focus was mainly on the relationship between the two, where I had hoped for a little more suspense, but it remains a fun story to read, especially so if you have followed the series. As the reader sees old acquaintances passing by, curiosity about the murderer grows.

This installment in the ongoing investigation into the Baron’s murder picks up right where the previous book ended—so I’d recommend reading the series in order for the full effect. This time, the spotlight falls on Lord Julius Trafford and his scandal involving his father’s ward, Audrey Gideon.

It was fascinating to see beyond Julius’s polished facade as a dandy and rake, to understand why he presents himself this way, and to watch him begin to reassess his parents’ relationship and how it shaped his worldview. I love seeing characters grow in this series, and Julius’s journey was no exception.

Audrey was an absolute delight—practical, compassionate, and willing to put the welfare of people and animals above her own comfort and the strict rules of the ton. She knows what she wants from life, but the question remains: can she survive this scandal and be bold enough to seize it?

A lovely read and another satisfying step closer to unraveling the murder mystery.

Loved the cover. Well written fast paced read. Full of love, drama, society, romance, mystery, murder, intrigue, steamy, twists and turns. Great storyline/plot with well defined characters,- a long lost heir, a murderer and relationships. Julius is a Lord , who is trying to find a murderer after the wife of his friend was attacked. In the looking, Julius is attack himself by someone with a knife. Audrey is his father's ward and finds him during the attack. She uses a sword to defend and chase the attacker off. She then helps to treat his wounds, learning how from her father who was a healer. While helping him to find this person, the two of them have strong feelings and some steamy scenes between them. Another great story in this series by this fabulous storyteller. Would strongly recommend to all.

Lord Trafford's Folly is book 8 in the Inconvenient Brides series and the first of this series I have read. As a result, I have added 7 more books to my TBR as it was delicious!

I was introduced to Nina Jarrett via Long Live the Bron (Inconvenient Scandals #1) and Moonlight Encounter (Inconvenient Brides #7 & Inconvenient Scandals #2) I adore how the series crossover with each other and this gives an extra dimension to the worldbuilding that exemplifies just how skilled a storyteller Nina Jarrett is

In Lord Traffords Folly, Lord Julius Trafford decides to pass the time by helping out his friends in a quest to solve a murder, but in doing so, has put his father's ward in danger, (who is also the love interest)

If you enjoy a rollicking good Regency novel, Bridgerton or D'arcy vibes with a cracking storyline and bubbling wry humour, then this is the author for you. Absolutely brilliant!

Finally Lord Trafford's romance.
Loved both Julius and Audrey.
Their story continues on from Moonlight encounter.
Julius gets himself into a predicament while trying to find lout who murdered Lord Filminster and help his friend.
Someone tries to kill him and Audrey saves him and ruins her reputation.
As they spend a week together with Audrey looking after him and everyone trying to find out who attacked him they get closer.
Audrey falls in love with Julius,so does he,but takes him a while to realise it.
Julius doesn't want to get married as his parents marriage is not the best example.
He does propose a marriage of convenience to save Audrey's reputation.
There is lots of danger, passion, friendship, romance and a happily ever after.
I cannot wait for the next book in the series.

Lord Trafford's Folly is the third book in Nina Jarrett's Inconvenient Scandals and the book eight of the Inconvenient series. While the book is part of a series it can be read as a standalone, however in my opinion to fully enjoy all the side characters in the book, it is best to have read their stories also. In Lord Trafford's Folly we meet Audrey Gideon a young woman who risks her reputation to save Lord Julius Trafford after he has been stabbed in an altercation. What I really enjoyed about this book is how the female character was portrayed as a smart strong woman instead of a weak female unable to defend herself. I also enjoyed how the book spent a lot of time investigating the attack on Lord Trafford and the continued mystery of who killed Lord Josiah Ridley.

This is a easy to read, predictable, romance/mystery set in Regency England. I enjoyed reading it and recommend the entire series.

Spoilers ahead

Julius Trafford, from the previous books in the series, appeared a foppish dandy always up for a lark. At the beginning of this story, we see events from the previous book from his point of view which promised to show a different and more likeable side to him but as the story progressed, I got more and more annoyed with him. His nickname for his father confused me at the start and I would have liked more background of his parents’ relationship. His father’s ward, Audrey Gideon, gets caught up in the murder investigation he was engaged in with his friends and being a practical minded women insists on accompanying him on the run to tend to his wounds. I liked Audrey but ultimately I did not believe in their feelings or romance. There was also too much adventure which did not lead anywhere, and I ended up skimming to finish.
