Miriam Minger is the bestselling author of sweet to sensual historical romances that sweep you from Viking times to Regency England to the American West. Miriam Minger says: It's been a wonderful experience to have all my novels published as eBooks, but the greatest thrill for me as a writer is when readers take the time to let me know they enjoyed my stories...

"I have read hundreds if not thousands of books in my lifetime and not once have I ever been moved to comment on one until now. This is without a doubt one of the best books I have ever read. I laughed. I cried. I remained at the edge of my seat devouring every single word you wove with this incredible story. I just wanted to let you know how deeply this story moved me and to thank you for creating it."

Wow. This one left me speechless, and thankful. I had done my job, which is to make you feel like you've dropped feet first into a world that captures your imagination and emotions so vividly you might be living and breathing the story. And that's one of the purest joys of reading, isn't it? I know it is for me, and it is my hope to continue to write books that make you live and breathe the adventure, laugh and cry, and that touch your heart.

Oh. My. God.

Triona is wild and independent and fierce and such a positive role model for today's women. A feminism win, right?

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Triona is an obnoxious, deceitful, loud, immature, ill-mannered brat. That's it. She's a 20-year-old shrew who acts like a six-year-old, and no one should think her character in any way furthers the cause of feminism. Her proud and boastful nature puts not only herself, but others in danger, and she never seems to feel any real remorse over the stupid stunts she pulls. She makes women look terrible. She's one of those characters you want someone else in the story to kill. Slowly.

The hero wasn't any better. An overbearing, tyrannical misogynist who uses his guilt as a scapegoat to get away with treating people like dirt.

To say I'll never read this again doesn't accurately portray my loathing. I wish I could go back in time and beat the shit out of myself for even contemplating reading it.

I'm glad I downloaded this for free, as I would have been extremely mad if I had paid for it. I liked just about everything in this book EXCEPT Triona. Everything about her made this book EXCRUCIATING to read. Every time she's realized how shallow, selfish, assuming, dangerous her behavior has been, etc she goes ahead and ruins it by being shallow, selfish, assuming (which then leads to dangerous behavior).

I would have liked loved this book if she had been a little easier to like. I also HATED that Ronan (whom I adore as a character) put up with so much of her CRAP.

I really wanted to like this book, but Triona makes it too difficult. I had to force myself to finish this; granted I thought Triona was finally getting the picture at around the 60% mark of the book, but NO she goes and does ridiculous things that only put people in jeopardy.

I AM glad that Aud finally took responsibility and called Triona out on her attitude and behavior, though.

Overall if you can put up with this strong willed, selfish character who DOESN'T LEARN (which is one of my biggest pet peeves), then this is the book for you. I'm honestly very disappointed, because I think Ronan deserved so much more.

What might have been a really great story was ruined by what seems to be an unfortunate trend in romance novels--the too obnoxious to bear heroine. I thought The Romance Writers of American must be having a contest to see who could create The World's Most Obnoxious Heroine, but then I realized there must also be a contest for The World's Dumbest Heroine--and the heroine of this novel is clearly a contender for both awards. The ending could have been done better, too.

Finally...

I have had Wild Angel sitting on my to-be-read/listen to list for yonky donks and I finally got around to listening to it. Of course, I'm now kicking myself for taking so long as I actually enjoyed it. I'm always up for a historical hottie with a temper, who only turns sweet when he finds his one true love. She's a wee bit of a brat throughout most of this story, but I liked some of the things she stood for, so I was OK with it.

The characters were interesting, the storyline was captivating, and the narrator does a fairly good job of bringing this story to life. I'm definitely interested in going on with the series...soon...ish. ;-)

Black O'byrne

Great name for the hero and I loved Triona his heroine. She was very feisty and a good fit. She dressed in pants and was raised by a kind man who found her in the woods as a baby. He raised her when the story begins as he lay dying. He had The hero made her guardian and he accepted his plan was to marry her off but he found himself falling for her. The ending was good but if someone talked to a King like that, he wouldn't have let her go. But the book is pure fantasy and the actions true to her character.

WILD ANGEL by MIRIAM MINGER is historical romance based in Ireland around the beginning of the 13 century , which was extremely fertile ground for a book considering the events and the happening of the age.But unfortunately in this book none of it was utilised.Instead what we have is a love story where the girl is a brat and the hero a misogynist and both of them justified their behaviour on the basis of grief and guilty they feel towards their deceased loved . I don't have a problem with a brat and a misogynist but the problem with me is that they show zero character development throughout the book. And the change in their in their behaviour( if you consider it a change at all ) happens in a flash like a boom. The so-called subplot involving Triona actual parents is joke simply because it appears right in the beginning and then at the extreme end. The saving graces of the story was the writing which all together not too awful (the writing was ohkk I can deal with it situation) and the centain incidents which was actually able to engage me for a while. So hence a 🌟 🌟 for the Wild Angel

I had to delete the book from my kobo account before I was finished with it. I couldn't take it!!!! It dragged on for many chapters and nothing interesting was happening. I read the other reviews complaining about how whiny the main female character, Triona, was but decided to give it a shot anyway. MISTAKE!! She was just too much, I couldn't take her untrustworthy, bratty attitude. I thought she would soften up a little, but by the 16th or so chapter she hadn't,and I deleted it because I had already wasted too much of my time. It became so boring, don't waste your time.

If you like books with heroines who yell all the time and act like spoiled brats, heroes who are misogynistic assholes with major guilt issues, couples who don't communicate well, and couples who don't really seem to even like each other much but are physically attracted to each other, then you will love this book. I pushed through to the very end, but never actually came to like either of the main characters.

This was awful. I hate both of these characters so much I was really hoping they would both die. She is a childish brat who literally stomps her foot and throws a fit every other page if she doesn't get her way. No care at all if her actions bring harm to herself or others. While he is a freaking RAPIST. The first time they hooked up she was like "if I had tried to stop him, I wouldn't have been able to anyway so I just went with it." Um.... what? Honey you were all about it. Stop making excuses. HOWEVER, the second time was RAPE. He was drunk, pissed, physically hurting her, and holding her down. She left crying. No. Just no. This book was terrible.

12 year age gap - Gross - DO NOT RECOMMEND

It’s fiction, so the misogyny, sexism, and disrespect can go. This is not romantic. He literally held this woman as a baby, and now he’s lusting after her. NO! I can get behind her equality stance, but everything is a fight. Jeez. The push and pull of his being attracted to her and then not is so boring and tired. This author can’t even finesse the tension. It’s as if they have no thoughts but only how the other one looks and makes their genitals react. I skimmed and skipped to 20% and couldn’t take it anymore.
SEX SCENES - I have no idea and don’t care.

Well Told Tale of Medieval Ireland and a Fiesty Heroine

I’ve read and enjoyed several by Minger and decided to read this one for my Best Irish Historical Romances list. I was not disappointed.

It begins in the Wicklow Mountains of Ireland in 1190 (prologue) when Fineen O’Toole, chieftain of he Imaal O’Tooles, happens upon a Norman woman’s body, gored by a boar, and her babe, still alive, the child the woman died trying to protect. Fineen overhears Normans hunting for the baby girl—to kill her—and he vows to raise the child as his own.

Twenty years later in 1210, Irish warrior Ronan O’Byrne, the “Black O’Byrne” (Fineen’s godson), is the rebel chieftain of the Glenmalure O’Byrnes. He lives to raid upon the Normans. Upon Fineen’s deathbed, Ronan promises to protect the girl Fineen raised more like a son—the feisty Triona O’Toole. Ronan’s idea of “protection” is to marry her off but Triona has no desire to wed any man. Both want revenge on the Normans for taking her father’s life.

Triona is feisty to say the least and she rebels against Ronan’s “traditional” views of what a woman should be. But this is the 13th century so his views are certainly the norm for the time. It’s Triona who doesn’t really fit. But love will change her and him, too. There isn’t much of Ireland’s history in this one but there is a good flavor for the Irish views of the Norman conquerors…even 100+ years after the invasion. Minger writes well and for the most part the story is well paced though there is a bit of a slowing in the middle. The end has some good action scenes. I can recommend it.

Glad I downloaded this for free because it's not worth a jot. Feisty red head trouser wearing heroine is meant to be strong but instead just rushes to conclusions and action without thought and then needs rescuing anyway. Misogynist hero who rapes her twice but she still falls in love with him. Gross. When will historical romances knock that crap off?

This is hands down one of the most problematic books I have EVER read as far as the romance goes. But I’m getting ahead of myself. Let’s back up.
The plot: interesting concept but I was not a huge fan of the execution. I thought it was going to be more like The Bodyguard, not just “oh I’m gonna live with this guy”. But still I was intrigued by the idea but I didn’t really enjoy it as much as I thought I would. But that might be because of the characters. So let’s get into that.
Triona: 1) I’m sorry but her name is one of the ugliest things I have ever heard. Just had to throw that out there. 2) she is one of the most annoying characters I have EVER read and that is saying something. She talks! In exclamation points! All the freaking time! And it gets exhausting to read her dialogue and even her own inner monologues. 3)She is also just so... rude? Mean? Self-centered, annoying and self righteous. It made me wonder how anyone could stand to be near her, particularly Ronan. She was especially awful to him. And she was sooooo immature. Instead of handling anything maturely she would ✨run away✨ or something stupid and Ronan would have to save her even though he’s mad at her or hurt by her. It was RIDICULOUS. In fact, that’s what caused me to DNF at 92%.
92%. Why did I read this far? How did I read this far? This, I know not. Anyways, I digress.
Ronan: this man is the epitome of ✨questionable morals✨. If you don’t like that, don’t read this book. I mean, I wouldn’t advise reading this book in general, but for sure because of that. I don’t have a lot to say about Ronan other than that.
Triona and Ronan were very dysfunctional. The most dysfunctional of any couple I have EVER read. The build up for their relationship was non-existent and I would have liked it if they, oh I don’t know, LIKED eachother before they kissed for the first time? I know the author tried to do enemies to lovers but, dang, they just seemed like enemies and then lovers with no transition.
You may notice I’m not mentioning anything other than the romance and there is a reason for that: This book was just romance (if you can even call it that). Everything that wasn’t romance was a plot device to help the romance. I would have liked a bit more action. Overall, I’m a little disappointed by this book. Read at your own caution.

I like the premise and plot of this story. I thought the writing was done well and the author seems a capable writer. I like O’Byrne a lot. I thought his character was done well. And I liked the beginning, I was pulled in immediately and wanted to see how his story would unfold. But then we are introduced to Triona. Wow. I had to finally just stop reading because I could not stand to listen to her for another minute after page 61. The author just needed to take a little more care and delicacy while writing Trionas character. The author wanted to make sure we understood that Triona is an independent, strong woman that isn’t like very other girl and doesn’t want to conform to what society thinks she should be. This concept was literally shoved down our throats with Trionas every move and every word out of her mouth. It feels so author contrived instead of natural when everything was so emphasized and over the top in Trionas actions and words. And so instead of sounding like a strong independent woman, she comes across as extremely temperamental, highly emotional/not in control of the only emotion she possesses (rage), and like a whiny spoiled brat who has been sheltered and coddled her whole life. If the author could have used way more finesse and dug a little deeper the character could have been written in a more elevated way and be turned into a multi dimensional woman who didn’t fly off the handle every chance she got. I understand her anger. I love an enemies to lovers romance, it’s my favorite kind. But the execution of this needs to be done carefully. It starts to get repetitive if Trionas only response to every situation is complete rage and rebellion. I also even really loved the reason triona started learning the things she learned in the first place. That felt very real and I wish the author could have built off of that with more subtlety instead of just emphasizing that triona didn’t want to be a “normal girl”. That’s more unoriginal. I also didn’t love that the point of view jumped from hers to his at random. It was a bit like whiplash and made for lazier writing as then the author didn’t need to come up with a way to let us know how they each felt about certain situations because she could just write both of their thoughts anytime she saw fit. Overall if you can get past triona it’s probably a good book. I liked most everything else!

Triona O’Toole, with her fiery red hair and mystical green eyes, is more than a handful and seemingly impossible to tame. Twenty years earlier, in the year 1190, Fineen O’Toole found her held protectively in her dead Norman mother. She had been killed by a pack of wolves just before Fineen arrived. Taking the foundling from her mother’s arms, he heard horses approaching. Not knowing if they were friend or foe, he hid with the baby behind the trunk of a large tree. A group of Norman warriors soon arrive and recognize the dead woman. Their cold comments left little doubt that the sight of this bloody body was a welcome sight and the babe if found, would share the same fate. As the warriors leave, taking the child’s mother with them, Fineen swore that he would raise and protect this infant as his own. Now twenty years later, Fineen is dying of infection, inflicted during a Norman raid. He sends for Ronan (Black) O’Byrne and on his deathbed asks that he takes Triona under his wing and protection.
Ronan is at a loss as to what to do with his new ward. Brought up in complete freedom of movement, thought, word, and dress, she is a true recalcitrant vixen. Ronan decides that the only way to assure her future and safety is to marry her off to the best suitor. Love and desire are soon added to the fray but the final outcome is far from certain.
This is the story where passions and loves can go feral, not hemmed and constricted by societal and health concerns. Wild and dangerous times with a untamed, beautiful, and dangerous woman, just the right combination for a true historical adventure, conflicted love and political divergence makes this a story you’ll read and remember long after its back on your library shelf. This is the first book of The O’Byrne Brides Series and if they are anything like this one I will sure be reviewing them soon too.

Firstly, I must say I've got this book as a free read and it was in my kindle for a long time before I read it because the cover was a complete turn-off. It's very unattractive and I notice that most of her book covers are like that. I would highly recommend that she remedy that.

Notwithstanding, the story was much better than my impression of the cover but it could have been much better. The argument between Triona and Ronan was so drawn out it was more ridiculous than engaging and because there was so much focus on them constantly fighting there was hardly any focus on the attraction between them or their relationship. There was no build up or anticipation. I felt like I just turned a page and two strangers were having sex when it eventually happened. The attraction between them was just not outlined well.

Also the book didn't need to be that long. I felt like the entire middle was irrelevant. Most of it was senseless arguments where Triona was behaving like a spoiled brat; rebelling for no reason whatsoever and almost getting them killed on many occasions. She claims she blamed Ronan for her brother's death but I did not see it being displayed in her actions. Her hatred for Ronan was totally for her self-centered reasons. I also didn't like the fact that when she eventually found out that he loved her, she used it to get her way; that was really a low blow.

I loved the last part though, when she finally stopped behaving like a rebellious child and finally saw reason. I get that the author was trying to make her character seem independent, strong-willed and different and I am totally for all those things in a heroine but the whole thing with Triona didn't come off well. The book needed to be developed more so that so much focus didn't have to be placed on their every disagreement.

What a page turner this story was, from beginning to end. This story has everything, murder, suspence, intrigue, vengance to sensual romance and a dash of humor and sadness....oh my emotions were well and truely stirred.
When Triona's stepfather is mortally wounded by the Barron he sends for his estranged godson Ronan. He makes his peace with Ronan and asked him to take Triona under his protection swearing on oath. Thinking Triona to be like any other young maiden he agree's. When he finally meets the high spirited, red head beauty. She not only dresses like a man but can wield a knife and draw a bow better than most men, he realises he has his work cut out in trying to bring her wilfull ways under control, she disobeys him at every turn and the games begin. Ronan is so not used to someone standing up to him, she stirs his passion like no other, and he exaperates her no end, when he thinks his way is always right.
Then adding to this there is the evil Barron, both Ronan and Triona want vengance for her stepfathers death Events reveal Triona's true parentage and this knowledge not only puts Triona in danger, but she may loose the people she has come to love.
I highly recommend you read this fabulous story.

About 170 pages too long

Wow. I could not have cared less about either one of these characters after page 50.I did read 200 pages hoping it would improve. If I had to read one more time about a misunderstood look on the others face I would have screamed. Instead I just quit reading. There was no character development. Just one defining moment for him and she was nothing. Just someone who was on the story as a former little sister. One second she is tough and the next afraid of the dark. The supporting characters were more sympathetic and the prologue that could have played out much more interestingly was just abandoned (seemingly). I will admit that I did not finish the book. She may have tied everything up in a bow at the end but I could not get there. Just to test, I opened a book by a different author and was wrapped into the story in the first 20 pages. It really highlighted the flaws in this one. The dialogue was bad, the characters undeveloped, the story telling slow or barely there. I tried to pick this one up again but realized what a waste of reading it would be

Disappointed

The heroine was a bitch and incredibly hard to even feel anything for. The hero should have kicked her ass into the dungeon and left her there. And what about this wicked warrior the hero played? If he was so bad he wouldn't have put up with her at all. One review said warning explicite sex and complained that the author didn't leave anything to the imagination. Well I found that statement false. Very mild to say the least. And if you overlook all of this the plot ran rampant, first one direction then another then add another idea for kicks. It's like the author herself couldn't decide what to do with any of it so she threw in the kitchen sink. I was going to read the others in this series but no thank you I will pass on that. Sorry I couldn't find any part I liked.

A book set in medieval Ireland? I’m in. I started to read this book and was intrigued, but then Triona burst into the scene wearing men’s clothes and all the men are afraid of her because she’s so violent. Oh. She’s not like other girls. You can tell I’m not that invested because I’m wondering “Is the word Begorra that old? The book is way too long. So I skipped ahead to solve the big misunderstanding which isn’t addressed until chapter 24!!! So I started skimming. And it was sooooo long. And nothing seemed to have changed. Triona was still a brat. I thought I’d be close to the end (the curse of ebooks) and then something else would happen to keep the story going. Dear lord, when would this book end?! Apparently the H forces himself in the heroine twice. She decides to run away into the night more times than I can count... ugh. It’s not worth it.

Wild Angel (O'Byrne Family Series, Book 1) (Kindle Edition)
Wild Angle was just OK. The Heroine in the story was suppose to be a warrior, but what she was is a spoiled brat, who was given to temper tantrums. Triona WAS 20 YRS. old, but at timse she acted like a 2yrs old going through terrible two's. The main story was never fleshed out and came to an abrupt end at the end of the book it was all settled within a few pages. Her real identity and her revenge on her uncle who killed her father and adoptive father and caused her mothers death. The end was just rushed. However, I did love Ronan and his brother and sister, their characters were written well and believable.

This wonderful tale has all of the feels...

I love Triona’s grit and gumption. The mystery of her heritage gets put aside for most of the story, but her romance with Ronan is exciting enough. I couldn’t put this book down, I was so entranced by the spectacle and depth of this exhilarating story.

I really loved this story. At times, though, I wanted to destroy the heroine because of her pettiness, but it was somewhat refreshing to have a character as the main that was not immediately likable. It brought a nice balance to the rough male love interest.
