Tempest explores the turning point of Tracey and Adam's ten-year marriage when they have to decide to keep fighting or give up. This story is told from Tracey, our heroine's point of view. I thought all her turmoil and emotion was beautifully, realistically portrayed as she struggled with where she and her husband were in their relationship, and how they got there. It wasn't so much one thing that was putting a strain on them, but a bunch of little things.
I'm not going to spoil what happens but, it's amazing how one single moment can really put things into focus as happens in Tempest. It's not like a magical problem solver (or eraser), but it was a shared experience which put the both of them back on the right track.
I enjoyed the writing style, the characters, and the book. Short stories and novellas can be kind of hit or miss with me, sometimes because they try to take on too much for their length, sometimes just because they're too short for me to get into it. This was a good short story, for me. It could've been better (in my opinion) if we also got some of Adam's point of view, and perhaps a little more specifics to their relationship (limits of short stories/novellas).
Overall it was a great way to spend an hour - with a wonderful couple who got a little off track but found their way back.
What a white-knuckle ride! This book started out with such an emotionally tense scene for the hero and heroine that I was starting to get a stomachache on her behalf. Then when they left the restaurant and started for home through the storm? That's when the roller coaster ride began. Whoa! You know how on scary amusement park rides you hunch your head down between your shoulders and squeeze your muscles until you're sore? That was me, last night, while reading on my kindle. Total first for me! I was so totally engrossed in the experience that I would not have been surprised at all, had it started full on pouring in my living room. And just like a roller coaster ride, it was over way too soon. But I loved it. And just like a roller coaster ride, I was chanting "Again! Again!" This is an amazing book and you are totally going to be swept away. :D
I should be annoyed . . . but Ms. White has once again had me reaching for the tissues even while I was fanning myself. The blend of passion, emotional pain and intense love is perfection. I just don't know how she does it in a short story! I almost burned dinner a I had such a hard time leaving Tracey and Adam in that ditch, wounded and alone! But, of course, all ended well and their love and desire was wonderfully rekindled. I said it after my first Chantilly White book or two and even remains true - she is an instant purchase for me and a cherished keeper. (Just please don't make me wait so long for another one, Ms. White!)
What an amazing short story. It really was worth every second i waited it.
Tracey and Adam... what a lovestory! I'm really glad that it ended good because there's been so many good books with a bad ending. And i just can not wonder, how she wrote such a good book with all these emotions just 42 pages! It just amazing!
Hope to read more of her books in the future. And, damn, she's so nice person!
