"Status Quo by Henry Mosquera is an introspective look at the dark side of the creative spark, as well as the consequence of getting what you wished for." - San Francisco Book Review

Henry Mosquera Status Quo was okay but I found it to be a dialogue of profanities which made it hard for me to, read but it is a black co0medy even though it was not your usual faire but rather dark!
Status Quo starts out with Lemat trying to sell a blockbuster in his opinion but none of the publishers think it would sell at all! the Lemat wants the American authors adoration for his manuscripts but an acquaintance suggests that he write a different type of novel one that would shock the stuffed shirts in the circle of editors! Lemat so badly wants his dream of becoming a famous writer that he decides to write a book that is trashy. His agent loves so does everybody else except the circle of traditional writers who now do not even acknowledge him when they see because of the rubbish he has written!
Lemat is an overnight sensation now he has his dream of becoming rich and famous but now his publishers want another...
Lemat finds that not all you wish turn out the way you expected So Be Careful What You Wish For because it could backfire on you!
Lemat finds that his dream has come at the expense of a literary book career, he now has hangers on, groupies whom use him as a thing and when the moneys gone desert him except for one!
Without the liberal use of profanities and swearing I probably would have enjoyed it more but that was pinnacle of his success to date! Will he write another 'trashy' book or not?
I give it a 2 star rating for me but I do not know what others will give it. It took me longer to read because I just could not get into it

The journey taken by Lemat provides an insider's view on some aspects of the publishing industry. Lemat's decision to write a novel that appeals to the masses and makes him rich is an on-going conflict. He knows he has sold out and wants his next book to be different. We experience the efforts that need to be made in promoting a book and understand that it's not glamorous.

Lemat's agent says to him: "My duty to you, first and foremost, is make sure you have a career, a prosperous one. I know authors always want to pander to their more artistic leanings, but this is a business after all. You have to do something to pay the bills so you can keep on writing. If you wanted to be an author just for the sake of expressing your thoughts, you could have done that by staying self-published, am I correct? but that's not what you wanted. That's not why you penned Killing Jesus. You wanted to get out there and swim in a bigger pond, didn't you? Well, here you are. Welcome to the blooming ocean."

I enjoyed the book ! This book was given by GoodReads.

I'm a First Reads Reader (I have no idea how to write reviews)
Feedback pls!

Status Quo is an inspiring contemporary novel about a man struggling to find meaning in his life. That man is Lemat and he's really creative and loves writing stories but, all his stories keep getting rejected by publishers. (Okay read the blurb)

This book is about Lemat. And the author makes you care about the decisions he makes, about what he wants to do with his life.

This was a great book. It was surprisingly easy to read book. At times it can be humorous, other times it can be full of unknown/known meanings. I enjoyed the book thoroughly. Yes, the book can be quite humorous. He names the book he writes It's humorous but its also about following your dreams and passions.

Also, this book has lots of rereading potential. I finished the book quite quickly but if I have time I'll probably read it again.

WARNING: This book contains scenes of a sexual nature. (16+)

This book is about a struggling author of many years who finally decides to compromise his craft for fame and then has to deal with all that comes with it.

This is a fast-paced read, a bit raw in parts, but the cynic in me enjoyed the main character's opinions and observations; I suspect many were those of the author. I think any writer or those in the publishing business might particularly like this book.

I received this book for free through Goodreads First Reads.

Received this through First Reads Giveaways.

I liked it quite a bit. Really lends credence to the idea that you should always be careful what you wish for. It had some grammatical and pacing issues, but overall, it was a really good read.

It was interesting, and different and enjoyable, but I wanted more out of it to get a full 5-star rating. More satire, more comedy, more drama, more something. I enjoyed it but looking back on it after finishing, I felt like the story had unrealized potential.
