Laoonica is a young princess from the planet Booravia who holds within her certain powers of chaos and creation. In the midst of leaving her home planet to seek a safe haven, Laoonica finds herself alone and clinging to life. A failed assassination attempt had destroyed all life aboard her tiny vessel. While lying in a pool of her own blood, noises in the back ground distract her from her bodies healing process. Her rescuers come into view and they whisk her away to their ship. She now unwillingly finds herself put into a position to perhaps take more lives. Laoonica awakens to find her surroundings unfamiliar to her and she reacts as an injured animal would in attempting to protect itself. One of her rescuers is a fairly attractive man by the name of Lieutenant Patrick Wolf. She is completely enamored by his emerald green eyes and his friendly smile is enough to calm her. However, as alluring as his eyes are they hide a very dark secret that Patrick keeps locked away. After discovering the destruction of her planet Laoonica finds herself alone and now she is determined to be sent to an isolated planet. In order to be granted solitude, she must present her case before a council of high rulers. Laoonica must convince them that it is best for everyone that she be isolated. Her choice is made even more difficult by the fact that she finds herself falling head over heels in love with Patrick. Things start getting very strange as Patrick seems to be having private conversations with an unknown but familiar sounding woman. He seems to block her attempts to be isolated at every turn. His actions have a huge effect on the council they all seem to be leaning towards keeping her in a prison. Even with a display of her powers she cannot win, thus forcing out the entire truth of her birth. She has to marry and consummate the marriage with someone she loves. However, this means that she may no longer be able to be herself as the man she chooses would gain full control over her powers. After she completes this act, so many deceptions, so many unanswered questions, and her vulnerabilities are revealed, the secret of the woman's voice, the truth of who Patrick really is, and much, much more that has been staged to get her exactly where she didn't want to be. The problem is once the truth is out, so too is being in control over her powers and Laoonica finds herself trapped in the hands of her enemies.

This is a sci-fi novel with a fun premise. Laoonica doesn't know whether to trust the handsome lieutenant who came to her rescue. Her temper flares often, making her powers unstable. I like her as the main character. But I liked Patrick more. He kept me wondering the whole time, because something was not quite right about her whole recuse situation. I was quite surprised by the twist at the ending.

Reader Rated for ages 16+ for one non-detailed on page sex scene and mild kissing.
