I have been waiting for Trees and Laila's story for a while now and I have to say it was soooo worth the wait. Shayla Black did a Wicked job with seducing this reader right along with Laila, having us fall for Trees in no time at all.
Trees has been tasked with keeping Laila safe while the men from E.M. Security figures out who has leaked the safe house where she along with her sister and nephew have been staying yet again. The Mexican Cartel will not stop until they have what they want and they will do anything to get them back. But Trees isn't going to let that happen and it's not only because it's his job.
Laila's past is not for the faint of heart, although things aren't explicit on the page we are made aware of the horrors that the young woman suffered at the hand of her sisters husband and his men, who were part of a Mexican Cartel, so please be aware of this before you start reading. I am thankful to the author for not being explicit in this aspect of the story because I don't know if I would be able to personally handle it.
WICKED AS SEDUCTION is the fifth book in the Wicked & Devoted Series but the first book in Trees & Laila's Duet, I would recommend reading the series in order of release because there is a story line that runs through each of the books. I feel it would be beneficial to have all sides of the story although each duet can be read on their own if that is the way you choose to do so, but, be aware that the main story line has not yet been resolved.
I would highly recommend this book to anyone that enjoys Age Gap Romances, BDSM Romances, Bodyguard - Client Romances, or Steamy Romantic Suspense Novels.

Locked in from the opening pages, Shayla Black takes the reader on an emotional journey that hits you right in the feels. On the outside Laila seems to be a woman scared of her own shadow, but with grit, determination and inner strength she shows her true ability to save herself. With Trees at her side, the turmoil and angst that has plagued her life comes to the surface and she has a choice to close herself off or learn to live again. While putting his job on the line, Trees breaks down her walls and opens them both up for a possible future. But in true Shayla Black fashion the entire storyline goes to pot and the ending will leave the reader breathless and in dire need for more. Simply put, this is another book that proves that Shayla Black NEVER disappoints!!

I really enjoyed the story of One-Mile and Brea, which was told in Wicked as Sin and Wicked Ever After. In fact, I was eager to dive into Zyron and Tessa, but – unfortunately – I have yet to read it. When the chance came to read Wicked as Seduction, the first part of Trees and Laila, I decided to see if it was possible to read it as the start of a duet without knowledge of the larger story and how it had progressed in books three and four of the Wicked & Devoted series.
It is certainly possible to read Wicked as Seduction as the start of the Trees and Laila duet. It is clear when the story is dealing with elements that are linked to the prior books, but these details are explained well and most of the gaps are filled. That said, there were some points when I felt it would have been useful to have read books three and four in the larger series. Mostly this was because the timeline clearly crossed over a lot, and I wanted to know what was going on with other characters. Despite this, I adored Wicked as Seduction. I quickly fell for the characters. I was hooked on their story. Every detail pulled me in deeper. I’ll say things did feel a little too quick and easy at points, but this was not enough to take away my enjoyment of the story. I was invested from the start, and I found myself unable to put the book down until I saw how everything came together. When the cliff-hanger hit, I was left desperate for the next book to find out what comes next.
All in all, Wicked as Seduction was another wonderful book from Shayla Black. I was hooked throughout and now I’m eager for the conclusion of this duet.

Wicked As Seduction: Trees and Laila Part 1 by Shayla Black is the fifth book in her excellent Wicked & Devoted series. This is one super hot, action-packed, full of suspense book. Forest "Trees" Scott of EM Security, is assigned the job of protecting Laila Torres, whose sister Valeria was married to the now very dead Tierra Caliente cartel boss, Emilo. In separate extractions both sisters were rescued from the cartel's clutches, but the cartel keeps discovering the sisters' safe houses. That's a big problem for EM Security. I really likes how Trees falls for Laila and Laila's very gradual beginnings of trust for Trees. The sex scenes between them are scorchin' hot. The storyline is captivating and I can't wait to read Part 2.

More puzzle pieces fit together in this intricate and seductive storyline. I'm hooked, I'm addicted, and I'm totally whipped into submission by Shayla Black, please keep giving me more of this EM Security team.
From book one we've been given bits and pieces of this continual storyline along with each of the players in this Wicked and Devoted world. Trees and Laila have been wrapped up in the overall plot from the very beginning and we finally get their intimate story and how each of their roles in the plot plays out.
I love how Shayla has written the overall story arc for this entire series. Each duet in this world winds around the overall plot and yet, intersects with each other at different time lines. So while they also have their own individual stories that play out, they also line up according to past timelines, making me remember, oh yeah, that already happened but to another character and now we have a different POV. I love those moments!
Laila was the girl One-Mile helped rescue when he was held in captivity. She's had a rough life to put it mildly. What she's suffered at the hands of her tormentors is something none of us could even dream of, but Laila's spirit, pride, and gumption is also something to be admired. Her captors never broke her of her inner fire. While her pride can sometimes be a bit much, it is also commendable in the eyes of those around her, especially a man like Trees.
Trees is attracted to Laila pretty much upon sight. While he does have a type, small and petite, what he comes to appreciate more is her fiery spirit and love she has for her family too. Trees is the tech guru for EM Security and while he's not typically a bodyguard, it's also not completely out of his wheelhouse either. Guarding Laila is probably the hardest job he's ever had, and hard is the optimal word. He can't seem to control his body's reaction around her, which is inconvenient at best. He knows what she's been through and with his shere size alone he doesn't want to scare her. Laila's feistiness and determination to save her family may just kill him if the cartel doesn't do it first.
I loved reading this story about a woman who has suffered so much, but finally learns to feel comfortable in a place where she could learn to trust in someone again. It isn't easy when you've lost all hope in humanity, but Trees is the perfect man to help restore that kind of faith. His gooey center is also filled with a ton of patience and gentle understanding that not a lot of people have. He's a rare gem of a man and I loved everything about him.
I loved everything about this first book of the duet. It's action filled, totally non-stop from start to finish, and filled with a ton of chemistry, which was also uniquely amazing considering where Laila came from. Shayla did a fantastic job of handling her past and moving forward with her future. I'm excited to finish their story and see what's next.

So much of this one covers the same time period of the last book, but with the different perspectives of Laila and Trees. I felt for Laila, she has been through some horrific things and quite honestly is doing pretty good. She has hot buttons, as she should. I like that Trees figured out those hot buttons and does what he can to mitigate them while still protecting Laila. It was interesting to see how he brought BDSM into things and how he deals with Laila. Her seeing that one simple word would stop Trees in his tracks was very interesting for her. By the end of this one I had hope that these two would be able to work out some sort of relationship, that is until the last couple of pages. Now I fear for Laila, Trees is so far away, that it will take time for him to get to her to help her.

Laila has endured so much trauma that she cannot trust anyone, even Trees. Their physical relationship has started to bloom but Laila has hesitations due to her physical trauma from her past.
I love how Trees does everything in his power to protect her and prove to her that she can trust him. His communication is fantastic and his reassurances will make you fall in love with this character.
This is book one of a duet so it does end on a cliffhanger.

Having read the previous books in the series, I could not wait to read Forest “Trees” Scott’s story in Wicked as Seduction. It was everything I was expecting and so much more.
From the instant he set eyes on Laila Torres Trees was attracted to her. There was something about the woman that called to his dominant soul and he wanted to protect her at all costs. Laila has survived immense horrors and still although terrified she hold her head high and refuses to give in to the darkness of her past. Frankly my heart broke for all she has had to endure since she was fourteen.
I loved how all in Trees was once he realized the feelings he had for Laila were real and the tenderness and love that he showed her even with his dominance; it just melted my heart.
There were times that I was on the edge of my seat as the action heated up and there are some parts which were emotional and hard to read as Tree’s job comes in to play. All in all this was a captivating read with strong writing and characters that you cannot help but become invested in.
Their enemies are all around them but Trees will do all he can to keep the woman he cares for safe. The question is will it be enough? Or is the woman he loves destined to be destroyed once and for all?
After the way this book ended, I cannot wait for the conclusion to their story coming in April in Wicked and Forever. Frankly it can’t come fast enough.

Wicked as Seduction by Shayla Black is book 5 in Wicked & Devoted series and Part 1 of Trees & Laila story. Trees has been been given the task with keeping Laila safe while the men of E.M. Security try to figure out who the person is that is leaking info on her safe house(s) which has her, her sister and her nephew with her. The Cartel want her dead and they don't play games. Trees is determined to do whatever it takes to prevent that from happening. Laila's story is one of a woman who has gone thru something pretty horrible yet we are able to get read the strength and will that shine through. Trees is able to get through the defenses that Laila has built up ... great to read then that cliffhanger 😯..Can’t wait for part 2!! Overall an amazing story.

Yes, bodyguard romance this was something I didn't know I needed. Extreme size difference and close proximity. You know I love those tall guys with the beards, I have one.
I haven't read the others in the series but I didn't feel I needed to have read them to catch on. Forest "Trees" Scott is supposed to protect Laila from the brutalizers that held her since she was young with her sister and mother. She does not trust him or any man from experience they only want or take one thing. (TW all spoken of in past tense but can still be sensitive to some). But he feels and intense attraction to her and is trying to hide it to no avail.
I enjoyed this steamy, sensitive, action packed read! Trees was a burly, smart, teddy bear and Laila was strong and family and purpose driven. She was terrified most of the time but she was fierce and she was starting to trust him. I will have to look out for Part 2 cause woah!
So many mysteries of who the mole was too. I had no idea! They kept having to move Laila and her sister because of that. There was a lot going on that was misdirecting the bad guy. Totally enjoyed the ride

Trees takes his job seriously and when he says he will protect you with his life he means it. He especially means it when it comes to his latest job…Laila. Laila loves her sister and nephew more then anything and will do anything for them. When their life is in danger…again…she wants nothing but to be with them unfortunately it’s not safe for them to be together. Trees and his team will do anything to protect them, even though Laila is making that extremely difficult because she doesn’t trust anyone especially Trees. Laila’s had a tuff life and trust is hard for her and Trees is doing everything he can to help her. Oh man is this a great back and forth emotional story! Laila and Trees have a connection it’s so complicated but at the same time has so much depth and rawness. Boy of boy Shayla is nailing this one….it’s pulling at my heart stings. This journey is definitely an emotional one with several turns and lots of bumps. The ending had my heart pounding and I’m ready for the next book to see what happens next.

Wicked as Seduction by Shayla Black is Part 1 in the Trees & Laila story and book 5 in Wicked & Devoted Series. This starts the story of Laila Torres and Forest Scott 'Trees'. Forest is out to help rescue Laila and the others but when he sees Laila he is drawn to her but he sees that she isn't going to be easy to help. Laila has been tortured by the cartel and has been looking contact with her sister and has been working to keep her nephew safe. When Forest comes she isn't very trusting of him due to how much she has been mistreated over time. This book does end with a cliffhanger setting us up for the next installment in their story and this series.

I so needed this book to take me out of my reading funk. Shayla Black always brings it and you definitely want to read this awesome book Trees and Laila have a hard won relationship but so worth it !! Can’t wait for the next installment.. this ending killed me.

The premise of a woman needing a bodyguard and they together escaping the bad guys from her past is one the appeals to me, but somewhere along the way I just stopped caring about most of the characters. Laila was really stubborn. She had a terrible and traumatizing past, but she just kept acting recklessly and it really got to me. On the other hand, Trees had all that protective vibe (which I love in romance books), but it’s really difficult to protect someone who doesn’t want to be protected, right?
However, Shayla’s writing style is good, the mystery in the plot kept me guessing, the hot scenes were really intense.

I was pulled right into this story. This is a 2-part story so be prepared to get both parts. The story has laughs, secrets, and heartbreak.

I was so excited too finally read Trees story and I wasn’t disappointed at all. Trees is a character that you will never forget. Laila has been through hell and Trees will do anything to protect her, at all cost. Good story that held my attention and I can’t wait to see what will happen next.

Well, that was a super roller coaster ride! Laila has a difficult time in trusting and believing, rightfully so. Trees tries to resist her, but his heart can’t be denied. This is a cliffhanger. It leaves your heart pounding at the end! Can’t wait until April!

A riveting read, enticing characters and wonderful storyline, great start to series
This the fifth book in this series and is also the first book in this particular duet read of Trees and Forest. The character Forest is a well respected and elite soldier that is well respected in his field and also is something of a hands-on wiz where it comes to technology.
They are trying to rescue women that have been stolen by the Cartel for sale In to various lives of slavery and other uses as the Cartel are known to be vicious and totally uncaring seeing the women as nothing more than a commodity.
When Forest first sees Laila he knows that he has to take her to safety and to ensure that the Cartel are not able to acquire her again however the hell that she has already lived through has left her deeply scarred and she knows that
Forest is sure that with the proper care and attention he will be able to help her overcome the harm that has been done enabling her to have a life with Forest where they will be able to have a good and fairly happy life, although it will take a great deal of care and patience from Forest where Laila is concerned.

This may be book 5 in the Wicked and Devoted series, but it is the first part of Trees and Laila's story - and we left the situation in a pretty perilous state, as Trees is being considered as a potential leak and not trusted by those he works with...
Even if you have not read one of these stories in a while, you soon remember the horrors that were dished out to Laila, and the constant dread and fear that she lives in of it all happening again. Emilio's men are not finished with her, and danger is constant. And yet, she is still worrying more for her sister and nephew than herself.
Be ready to be shocked at how her everyday life is spent questioning what/how she will have to pay to get even a glass of water. It is traumatising, and done so very effectively that I was predicting her reaction to even the simplest requests that Trees would make. He was amazing at staying calm in the face of evidence of such awful abuse - and yet definitely intent on retribution for those who damaged her.
I love seeing them having to acknowledge and enjoy their time together - in spite of the crazy still going on all around them. It provides some welcome smiles in a complicated situation.
As this is the first installment of their story, I knew I would have to be patient, but I will be very glad when it is time for part 2!

This is the first book I have read in the series and I am awestruck with how well all the emotions and story was written. The author has written many sensitive topics without making the read uncomfortable yet making sure you feel the characters pain and anguish which got me hooked.
I was on the edge throughout the read. A true emotional rollercoaster which is worth the inner turmoil I went through during the read. Trees and Laila are world apart yet meant to be.
Laila might seem fragile but I was in awe for her strength. Despite going through hell she not just survived, she stands tall and fights for her family. Her integrity and will power made me fall in love with her instantly.
Forest "Trees" Scott is not all about his good looks or his tech knowledge he is a man of his word and would die to do the right thing. He is everything Laila never expected she needed.
It's a read about family, trust, integrity and survival. It isn't easy for Trees to earn Laila's trust after what she endured in the hands of the people who were meant to protect her. There are so many mysteries to be solved. Lives at stake and yet It's easy to find love when you meet the right person.
But as they say love is not always enough. Or maybe it's enough to fight the world. The answers await in Wicked and Forever as the books end in a cliffhanger. I was shocked with the end and cannot wait for the next book.

Wicked as Seduction is the 5th book in the Wicked & Devoted series but Part One in Forest “Trees” Scott & Laila Torres story.
Laila has had a very rough go in life and it shows. It takes Trees everything he has to keep Laila safe. Laila doesn’t make it easy and she is so skittish. But, she has every right to be. It still doesn’t make it any easier for him to rescue her from the bad guys. Also, things aren’t easy for Trees because his own agency thinks he is a mole and he is trying to prove he isn’t.
Shayla Black does a tremendous job keeping this reader interested in wanting to know, NO needing to know what is going to happen next. This book ends on a h*ll of a cliffie! It’s funny I don’t really mind cliffhangers it does keep me coming back for more. I still let out an audible no when I reached the end of the book with the cliffhanger even though I knew there would be one.
I have loved this series and it's great to read the ongoing stories of the other characters. You can read this book as a standalone if you just want to jump in and get started and then do go back and read the other books in the series you won't be sorry that you did. NOW! Come on Part 2! I need you!

From the moment these two meet sparks fly, an instant attraction could put both their life’s in danger so will lines be crossed in this emotional, steamy, captivating tale.
Laila has built walls around herself and on the face of it she comes across as a woman scared of her own shadow but this is a woman that when the chips are down and her life is threatened she finds a determination and strength to save herself. But will she allow Trees to see the side of her life she has chosen to put in the back of her mind, will she ever trust enough to love …..

HOLY HELL! I loved this story so much that I read it in one sitting, and it's not a short read at all. Forest aka Trees, is a tech genius who was a former elite soldier who becomes Laila's protection when stuff hits the fan. EM Security rescued Laila from a brutal cartel who put her through absolute hell & it's done serious damage to Laila when it comes to men which was totally understandable. After being rescued, Laila has been reunited with her sister & nephew but the cartel isn't done with them so they have to go on the run & Laila isn't exactly the easiest person to protect at the end of the day but he shows a great amount of patience towards her. Despite any frustration he feels, they have chemistry at the end of the day, but it is slow going because of Laila's inner scars making it hard for her to trust any man (again understandable). There's something about him that calms the chaos she feels & just when she's starting to see him in a new light, BAM! We're left with a brutal cliffhanger that has me ready to pull my hair out as the impatient wait begins! And I'll just end it here by HIGHLY HIGHLY HIGHLY RECOMMENDING TO ALL!

Long review incoming because I had thoughts….
I’m going to start off by saying that whilst I started to enjoy this book, I had no idea it was part of a series and whilst it’s the first of a duet within the series and can technically be read alone, I feel like you would benefit from reading the other books first A LOT! I didn’t know this going in so some bits were a little confusing although the author does their best to recap bits and pieces that are relevant and that helped. I’d definitely be interested in checking out the start of the series because the prose has me intrigued.
Now we know that I’ve recently been sucked in by the military/special ops romances and this one very much feels like that kinda vibe, mixed in with a bit of mafia/cartel. (And no not the ‘good’ kinda mafia romance books, these guys straight up suck)
It had a decent plot and actually felt like it was going somewhere, I’m interested in the storyline and would like to know some of the other characters stories as well but i just couldn’t really connect much with them together until quite late on in the book. Their dynamic felt weird at the beginning, the tension was there but like not in the right way? It felt a bit rushed and insta lovey/attraction which I don’t have a problem with but the amount of times Trees desire was emphasised so early on put me off a bit especially under the circumstances. It felt a bit stagnant in places but the action and plot around it helped pick it up a bit.
And whilst I didn’t initially love their dynamic their relationship did grow on me as it went on. I loved Trees protectiveness, although I feel like he maybe could have been a bit more tactful at times and I did love Laila’s feisty attitude and her fight for herself, she was a great MC and her journey was something so emotional and heartbreaking you did connect with her more. They seemed to start to bond at some point and their relationship grew, maybe it was the lack of trust or the way that things were approached at times that had me feeling off until like the 60% mark, but as the book went on I did find myself enjoying it more and was really interested in some of the other characters too! I felt much more invested by the end, especially with that cliffhanger!
That being said, I would be interested to see where part 2 takes us and feel like this would give me more chance to connect with the characters and whilst I can’t speak on it myself yet, the beginning of this series sounds like it has so much potential and I’m definitely going to check it out. Don’t take my critiques as me saying the book is bad because it’s not! I feel like not having read the other books might have impacted my thoughts a bit as I wasn’t as immersed in the story with all the gaps so I might revisit this review once I’ve read the rest!

Long review incoming because I had thoughts….
I’m going to start off by saying that whilst I started to enjoy this book, I had no idea it was part of a series and whilst it’s the first of a duet within the series and can technically be read alone, I feel like you would benefit from reading the other books first A LOT! I didn’t know this going in so some bits were a little confusing although the author does their best to recap bits and pieces that are relevant and that helped. FINAL DECISION: I really loved the relationship between Trees and Laila in this one (although I found the sexual assault victim portrayal less than convincing). There is a lot of suspicion in this one, but Laila is a survivor and fighter, which I enjoyed more than other women in this series. As this book ends on a cliffhanger, my final decision really rests on how the second book ends.
THE STORY: Forest “Trees” Scott is a tech wizard and new employee at EM Security who is tasked to watch over Laila Torres and protect her from the men searching for her and her sister. Laila has been in a brutal situation for years and knows that men are nothing but takers. She is also determined to escape from him and get to her sister because she doesn't trust Trees or anyone. The two are at odds, but also there is a hot attraction between them despite what either wants.
OPINION: This story is intense. Trees is protecting Laila from the cartel that is looking for her. At the same time, she is trying to escape and forge her own path. Trees is definitely a good match for Laila. He is the kind of guy people trust with people and things important to them. He understands Laila's problems even as he pushes her. But he always understands what "no" means.
The action and pacing of this book was really good, and I kept turning pages to find out what happened. I have read the previous books in this series and this book covers the entirety of the two books in Tessa and Zy's story so things seem to go so much faster. That kept the story moving quickly and because I knew part of the story (dealing with Zy and Tessa) it allowed me to focus on the emotional connection between Laila and Trees which grows as the book progresses.
The only thing I am not sure about the dealing with Laila's severe sexual abuse in this book. The subject just seems so serious, and I sometimes felt that it was a plot device rather than a real character issue for Laila. However, I'm not willing to make a final decision on the issue because things become more emotionally compelling towards the end of this book. The conclusion of the cliffhanger might move this storyline forward.
