THEY KILL FOR KICKS & THEY KILL FOR CLICKS! "Hello, internet - it's your boy, Trevor Fitzroy! So smash that like button, hit subscribe and tell us who the number-one killer is!"
Eh. Tried to turn '90s villain Fitzroy into a modern-day influencer villain. Because the "Upstarts" were all about kidnapping and murdering on a lark, someone thought he would be a good fit to act like Spider-man's modern villain Screwball.
Not a great comic. I enjoy a straightforward fight, but the mutants paired against each other here were a tad too precise. Illyana is fighting a fellow portal-casting mutant. Beast is fighting a fellow hairy, bestial mutant. Of course, the writer didn't even get their powers right. Fitzroy can only open time portals if he kills someone. In this issue, he casually opened a portal to a 2013 volcanic eruption without having killed anyone first.
For that matter, where the fuck has Fitzroy been all this time? Has he just been hanging out in the modern era since the 90s? Why didn't he return to his own time, or why wouldn't he fuck around with the timelime more, if he's a total sociopath with time-travel powers? We certainly didn't see him on Krakoa.
I don't care for this book. Please, let's just cancel it and try something else.
Otherwise, this issue tried to make the fact Juggernaut has been walking around with a big "X" on his helmet come across as meaningful. That he has emotional reasons for the X on the helmet, and isn't he just such a great ally?
It’s a okay issue, but it lack any substance. I understand what they wanted to do with Ilayna and her stake in the series but it didn’t land. In addition, finally stating the reason why Juggernaut is on the team even though he is not a mutant and the reason for the X on his helmet also fell flat but not as much as Ilayna.
Fitzroy as the villain was an interesting attempt. I knew he is most likely to backstab his fellow mutants for his gain, so him being written to gain fame even if it means killing other mutants was an interesting take.
Good fight scenes and it was cool to see team members fight opponents with similar skill sets. Seeing others use their similar skill sets and how to go against them was cool.
Finally, an issue in this series that I thoroughly enjoyed, but was a tad bit too short.
Love seeing the other X-Men in Cyclops crew getting some leader time and initiative(i truly dislike Cyclops). Illyana shined in this roll, and even impressed the Beast with her forward thinking and control of the team against the Upstarts. She completed the mission, and everyone got back to base safe.
What more could you ask of from a hero? Hoping this theme continues.

The weakest issue so far. Not sure how I feel about this streamer villain- giving me way too many Screwball vibes. There were still some good dialogue moments though. Overall, still good, not great.
Yeah, once Fitzroy went on about being an influencer and getting likes I knew we were in trouble. Got excited for the villain intro but The Sugar Man (awkward silence). I still have hope for this series. Love the artwork but story wise the X-Men continue to disappoint.
