After a recent life-changing trauma, Sophie escapes to an apartment by the seaside.
Settling in at Harmony House isn't exactly harmonious. The residents behave suspiciously. Many are hostile.
A voyeur spies on everyone, especially those with dark secrets. The Watcher is excited by Sophie’s arrival. A new perspective and dangerous obsession ignite.
Diary extracts, written by the woman whose body was found in Sophie’s flat, appear.
Threats begin. Stalking starts. The death count rises. Will Sophie be next?
The Watcher is a dark psychological thriller with twists, tension, and a sinister villain.

Harmony House has a voyeur. Someone with hidden cameras throughout the building. The residents are unaware they’re being watched, especially the ones up to no good. I spy with my little eye; someone is going to die…
We are first introduced to Sophie, who has had a miscarriage and due to the stress, it is causing to her marriage, she decides to go away to Harmony House to do some housesitting.
But immediately, she feels she is being watched. Who is watching her?
The short snappy chapters alternate between Sophie and the “watcher”. So creepy! Who was the voyeur? I was kept in suspense throughout guessing and changing my mind continually.
The novel deals with miscarriage and mental health, but the author dealt with the issues in a sensitive manner.
This well-written novel with unique characters and a creepy plot will grab you from start to finish, until the final page. Highly recommended!
Many thanks to the author and The Book Club Reviewer Request Group (FB) for my digital copy.
Sophie and her husband are not on the same page about certain things. Despite being very much in love with each other, they decide with heavy hearts that they need some time away from each other.
Sophie's friend's friend has a home at Harmony House and needs a house-sitter. This is the perfect opportunity for Sophie to get away.
However, Harmony House isn't what it seems. There is a watcher, a voyeur, who knows everything about everybody. This watcher looks at Sophie and likes her - maybe she can be the Listener for the Watcher?
Everyone is a bit weird at Harmony House. There is Tobias Alfred Peters who has a penchant for looking out for people he thinks need to be protected. Then, there is Adam, the warden, who is unreliable. There is Iris with her weird routine. The Gallos upstairs normalize domestic violence.
The storyline was quite creepy. The idea of someone always watching your actions is scary, to say the least. The story is told in Sophie's and the Watcher's POV. The first chapter was the Watcher's and I was creeped out by it honestly.
But as the story proceeded, the story became repetitive. The Watcher goes on about Sophie becoming the Listener but does nothing. Meanwhile, Sophie gets more and more creeped out by the happenings but I couldn't understand her motivation to stay. She could have left without a word and nobody would have said a word.
When people return home from a short break or holiday on the coast, their thoughts are generally full of happy memories of a relaxing time along with all the grains of sand that have managed to conceal themselves within their luggage, the odd jellyfish sting and bad case of sunburn. Sophie Walter's decision to spend a month at Harmony House in the suburb of Southbourne near Bournemouth,Dorset would result in her becoming the pawn in the cruel and twisted mind games of a narcissistic puppet master. Someone who was determined to make Sophie bend to their will or they would ultimately break her spirit and possibly end her life.
Would Sophie be able to figure out the multiple secrets that were hiding within the walls of the eight luxury apartments, retain her sanity and return home to her beloved husband Ben? Or was she destined to be added to the number of lost and damaged souls who had lost their lives due to knowing too much information about the lives of others?
The chapters of this intense, spine chilling game of cat and mouse alternate between the perspectives of Sophie and the sinister, mysterious Watcher whose identity isn't revealed until the very end of the story. Sophie was a complex character and as the story unfolded, I was never absolutely certain about the trustworthiness or reliability of her character or version of events. I loved her interactions with her best friend Emma, Stanley the seagull and poor, troubled Tobias who was one of my favourite characters (but was he actually the watcher?) Sophie had some admirable character traits but there was also a number of times when I found her behaviour frustrating and felt like reaching into my kindle and shaking some sense into her. Why, despite insisting how much she loved and missed Ben did she insist of poking her nose into the lives of the various other residents of Harmony House instead of returning home and sorting out the issues within her own marriage? But,then again, if she had returned home then that would have been the end of the story...or would it? Was Ben the adoring husband he appeared to be? And what about Emma? Could she really be trusted or did she know more about Sophie's ordeal that she was letting on?
We learnt about the lives of the eclectic mix of realistic characters and personalities through the observations of both Sophie and the Watcher, there was Adam ( the caretaker) Tobias (the troubled nerd) Zara ( the spoiled princess) Rory (the sleaze bag) Una (the cat lady) Aurora and Federico (the volatile Italians) and Iris (the quiet loner) They each had their own personal issues and hidden secrets and as you find with many groups of people, some were more likeable than others but which one of them could have been the Watcher? The author cleverly imbued each of the characters who were currently residing in Harmony House with a aura's of mistrust and suspicion and I had each one of them pegged as the Watcher as the captivating story unfolded.
Interspersed throughout the story was extracts from the diary of a character called Louise Penrose which revealed that she had been subjected to a terrifying ordeal that was almost identical to the one that Sophie was currently being subjected to. But what had happened to Louise? Who was sending the extracts to Sophie and Why? Where they meant to be a threat or a warning?
OMFG, wow, just wow and wow again. This is a extremely well written, cleverly and intricately plotted, spine chilling and atmospheric thriller that is loaded with red herrings and has more twists and turns than a roller coaster. The enthralling story is written in short and snappy chapters which give the reader a very bad case of just one more chapter syndrome. The plot covers a number of realistic and relatable issues including miscarriage, mental health and different aspects of abuse, issues which the author has written about with care and sensitivity whilst avoiding the story becoming overly graphic. I would love to watch a movie or tv adaptation of this addictive thriller and would gladly award it far more than five stars if I could. This is definitely going to be one of my favourite reads of this year and is very very highly recommended by little old me.
Sophie and Ben are married. After a miscarriage Sophie wants to try again however Ben does not, yet. Sophie decides she needs some time away from Ben, to regroup. She spends a month away subleasing an apartment. Some of the neighbors are very odd. Someone is watching Sophie’s every move, but she doesn’t know it. The Watcher is so creepy!
There are so many characters in the story that could have done it. I’m pretty good at spotting the person responsible, but not this time. Good job Lisa Sell!
You think of the Watcher and you think of the Netflix series. This has nothing to do with that. Going into this book, I wasn’t too impressed. But once you start it’s a rollercoaster on steroids with the characters (great character development on all of them) and events. It will keep you guessing until the end, who the Watcher really is!
Harmony House has a voyeur. Someone with hidden cameras throughout the building. The residents are unaware they’re being watched, especially the ones up to no good. I spy with my little eye, someone is going to die…
Wow another absolute cracking thriller from Lisa Sell. Short snappy chapters made the read even more enjoyable. Very spooky and gave me goosebumps more than once. A fabulous read, highly recommended!
Fun twisty thriller, I have to say that I found the main character annoying although this could have been because I was listening through an audio book. Overall though, really hard to guess the end and I enjoyed trying to work out who the Watcher was. Characters were really well done.
A psychological thriller by Lisa Sell is a reason for a party almost! I have read and reviewed both her previous books and I must say, I am quite an ardent fan of her work. As soon as I knew she had a brand new thriller I was sat on my hands waiting to be able to read it. I automatically knew that I would love this story and I wasn't wrong.
The cover alone is enough to make you want to see what it's all about. The blurb just finishes it off. I was so eager to see if Lisa had managed to weave a story as good as her previous books. I won't leave you hanging, she has.
Straight from the first chapter I had could feel the creepy and sinister vibes to this story. Just the thought of someone watching me constantly gives me the eebie jeebies never mind anything else.
We meet Sophie, she has had a miscarriage and the stress is causing her marriage to fracture so she makes the decision to go and do a bit of housesitting to escape. She moves into Harmony House and right from the start she is being watched. As she gets to know the other tenants she starts to feel more uneasy as time passes. The question is, who is watching her?
The Watcher is a psychological thriller that is most definitely a book that puts the reader on the edge, constantly. Told from the perspectives of Sophie mainly, with chapters from 'the watcher' interspersed throughout, it ramps up the tense, eerie story as the unknown Watcher could be anyone in the building. Every character in this book have their unique traits and personalities and issues. I felt anyone of them could be the voyeur, I was kept in suspense throughout guessing and changing my mind constantly.
Such a intricately plotted and well written thriller that brings serious issues of today to the forefront. Miscarriage, mental health, abuse in all its forms, Lisa Sell has treated every issue sensitively and with care as she shows how these things affect everyday life and the people around us.
As I read this book I was growing more uneasy as the story unfolded, Lisa Sell has written an atmospheric, tense and definitely creepy thriller that has enough twists, turns and red herrings to keep the reader wanting one more chapter. The fact that it is written with short chapters does lend to that "I need to just read on for a bit longer" feeling. I love this type of book as I end up reading all day!! Yes I did, and I loved it!
If you love a book that grabs you immediately and doesn't let go, with a story that has well developed, unique characters and a plot that is as creepy as can be. Just read this book. Don't blame me if you are so creeped out at times you get goosebumps...that's the beauty of this book.
When Sophie needs a break from her marriage (despite being very in love with each other), her and her husband decide that for her to have a months break away would be good for the both of them. The flat she stays in in a shared building is pretty creepy as well as most of the residents! This psychological thriller will keep you guessing throughout.
First, I want to thank Lisa Sel, Red Dragon Publishing, Emma Mitchel, and Conrad Jones for this book so I may bring you this review.
WOW!! I have heard many great things about Lisa Sell’s writing but this is my first time reading her work! O.M.G! The Watcher was a great choice to start with! Lisa is a fantastic storyteller!
Let’s talk about the cover graphics on Lisa’s book The Watcher! What a perfect spot for this novel! It was pure genius and creepy as ever! It was just so cool!
Lisa would like to dedicate The Watcher to her Dad whom is a huge supporter of her writing career. She wishes you were still here to read it!
Lisa brings awareness to many important topics such as mental illness and fertility issues.
Right off the bat Lisa’s storyline captured my heart and attention right away in chapter 2. The conversation between Sophie and Ben were so real, intense and raw about their issues to conceive! My heart could not help but go out to this couple!
The Watcher had incredible in-depth and insightful views into a variety of characters and situations in the book. Who doesn’t like to watch people?! I admit he at times could be very shady and creepy but overall he had some amazing stories to tell.
The journal and the entries that Louise left behind also made this a must read 5 star book.
Lisa’s book is intense, suspenseful, creepy, heartbreaking, mind blowing, and overall a fascinating read unlike anything I had ever read before.
My first read by this author and oh my goodness what a read it was. To be fair I wasn’t certain when I started reading and it took me a while to get into but once I did I was hooked. A interesting cast of characters, most of whom are not particularly likeable and I’d go so far as to say some are despicable. From those with mental health problems to the promiscuous and someone who is watching every move of everyone living in the flats: not one of them is a straightforward character. Really well written from Sophie’s perspective interspersed with the occasional short chapter by ‘The Watcher’.
Briefly, Sophie has had a miscarriage and her marriage to Ben is crumbling under the stress so she decides to go away for a break housesitting. She moves into Harmony House and from the off she is being watched. But the more she finds about her fellow tenants the more she feels uncomfortable living there. Who is watching?
The tagline says it all “I spy with my little eye, someone is going to die” how creepy is that! This was a really chilling and sinister read and I was constantly changing my mind about who The Watcher is. This is a very original storyline, I was totally engrossed, and what a fabulous ending. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️💫
Hands up who likes to people watch? I love it, I'm one of those that love to go on public transport just to sit and listen to the people around me. What do I learn about a person in the minutes I'm sat listening to them? Imagine watching people 24/7 though. That's extreme and why would you want to do it?
The narrative of this story flips between Sophie our main character who has moved to Harmony House for a break away from her life. And also the view point of The Watcher. Who is it though? That is the million dollar question and one you will be pondering over throughout the story.
I did at times scream at Sophie to just get back home and stop messing in things. But, hey where would the story be then.
Short, sharp chapters made me fly through this book. It was so easy to fall into the one more chapter trap. But, with this type of book I wanted to fly through it, to find out who the heck was The Watcher. Throw in little excerpts from Louise's diary and that just added to the mystery and suspense.
A great read from start to finish. Thank you so much to the publishers for my gifted e copy in exchange of an honest review.
I spy with my little eye … an absolute belter of a book! With its short, punchy chapters and serpentine plot, this story carried me along in breathless anticipation of where it would all lead. And I can honestly say I did not figure it out. Sophie leaves her much-loved husband Ben to move to Harmony House. She hopes for a break from a very difficult time in her life and much-needed head space. Instead, she finds herself surrounded by a cast of characters who may harbour dark secrets. Never has a place been so badly named, as harmony is in short supply within the apartment block. So many great lines lie within the pages. Tightly packed in furniture feels claustrophobic to visitors. Adam doesn't want space. He can't afford to fall through the gaps of a painful past. I was a butterfly encased in my parents' ridiculous notions of perfection. They've never forgiven me for removing the pin they stuck in, trying to hold me in perfect place. Seemingly nice people are the real monsters. They make you believe you're safe so they can swoop in and reveal the true face of evil. Highly recommended.
What an incredibly tense read! When Sophie decides she needs a break from everything after a miscarriage, she rents an apartment in Harmony House. Close to the seaside, far away from her past, she can't wait for the chance to relax and concentrate on herself for once.
But her new neighbours aren't what they seem. Or are they? More is gradually revealed as the story progresses, and just when you think you've guessed everything, the author throws in another twist! And the chapters written from the antagonist's point of view are particularly creepy!
Cleverly written, and with plenty of twists, this is another great read from Lisa Sell. I've loved all her books so far, and look forward to reading many more! Highly recommend.
Having read Lisa's other novels. I was really keen to read this one especially with such a great tag line and one of the best covers this year! The story didn't disappoint and tells about Sophie and her decision to temporarily move into a friends vacant flat in order to try and get her life and marriage back together. There are eight flats in the block however someone is watching and listening to all the residents but the question is which one or is it an outsider with access?? Just when you think you may have figured out who it is, Lisa throws a curve ball and sends you back to think it through again. Good tight story with a great ending!
Welcome to Harmony House ..a glass building with a beautiful garden ..not far from the beach ..When Sophie , an illustrator decides to take some time away , she leaves the cottage she shares with her husband Ben after being offered a flat within Harmony House through a friend of her best friend ..But Sophie soon discovers there is something about Harmony House ...a presence that is cold and unsettling ..Within the walls there is a darkness ..almost as though she is being watched ...An ice cold ..creeping story that builds up through every chapter..My second read from Lisa Sell ..Brooding Dark and Chilling..
Sophie heads to Harmony House to get her head together after her miscarriage and wanting to save her marriage to Ben.
Harmony House has plenty of strange goings on. Many of the residents are hiding secrets. One of whom is watching them closely.
The story is quick paced and has a couple of nice twists at the end. I loved the character of Tobias, even through his awkwardness, it made him a unique character. The chapters were great in changing from Sophie’s perspective to that of the Watcher. I thought I had the watcher figured out but right at the end I found out I was completely wrong, I do enjoy a good story that I don’t quite figure out.
After a miscarriage Sophie decides to take some time away from her husband ,Ben, to regroup. She subleases at Harmony House and as she gets to know the other tenants she starts to feel more uneasy. Which one of her creepy neighbors is watching her every move and why ?
The Watcher by Lisa Sells is a creepy psychological thriller with enough red herrings along the way to keep misleading the reader . Written in short , sharp chapters this made for a thoroughly entertaining read.
I would like to thank the TBC Reviewers Request Group & the author for providing an ARC of this book in exchange for my honest and fair review
There is a creepiness to this story that will bring a chill to your spine as you read it and for a while after you are done. The idea that someone is watching your every move and knows how to stay out of view is the ultimate invasion of privacy. The characters of the story are well written and perfectly described and the build up of suspense as to who could be the watcher made this to be a wonderful read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance readers copy of this book.
What did I like.... everything! There was stalking, watching, waiting, mystery, suspence, wondering, guessing, and self reflection. I kept thinking I knew who behind it. Boy was I wrong! What did I dislike? Well that it ended... duh! Great story with an amazing storyline and wonderful, intriguing, exciting characters. Highly recommend! Now I am intrigued will there be a book two?
Lisa Sell never disappoints. This book kept me guessing up until the end. Whenever I thought I had it figured out she threw me for another loop. Twisted and chilling, I can't wait to reread it to pick up on all the hints I missed out on the first time. Well done!
What a twisty and thrilling read... This makes me want to look into other books by this author. Even after a big build up towards the end, I still guessed wrong as to who The Watcher is. The only one thing that has stopped it being 5 stars for me is how many times "I'm here to tell you the truth" was mentioned. But overall, what a great read.

The watcher by Lisa Sell. Harmony House has a voyeur. Someone with hidden cameras throughout the building. The residents are unaware they’re being watched, especially the ones up to no good. I spy with my little eye, someone is going to die… A brilliant read. Had no clue. Was shocked with who it was. 5*.
Quite good. A well written and enjoyable read. Certainly keeps you guessing. I was getting a little irritated by 'the watcher' early on in the book but after a while I could see the relevance in the things the watcher said. Little clues began to appear that got me very intrigued. It got better as the book progressed. An interesting ending...who'd have thought!
This really had me on the edge of my seat. Everytime I thought I knew who the Watcher was I was proven wrong! When it was finally revealed who was responsible it was a surprise, although there weren't many options left by then! Great fun and creepy.
There is nothing quite as chilling as the sense of unease you get when you think you're being watched. That expectation of something bad happening is held throughout the book, drawing you in and leading you in one direction only to shock with more twists and revelations.
This book was brilliant. It kept me guessing all the way through, every time you think you've figured out who the Watcher is, you're wrong. It manages to keep at a fast, unrelenting speed throughout, never dropping the tempo. A great book, highly recommend.
Lisa is an excellent writer and is great at creating likeable and hateable characters. The Watcher is a top-tier 'whodunnit?' that uses brilliant misdirection to make the reader believe they have everything figured out, and repeatedly pulls the carpet out from the feet of their theories.
