Fourth grader Alex Davidson was used to being in trouble. If it wasn’t at home it was at school, but a chance discovery in the woods next to his home made his usual troubles seem like nothing. He saw something, and no one will believe him. This is a case of ‘The Boy Who Cried Wolf’ taken to the extreme. At the same time his best friend is dying of a mysterious disease and the only cure can be found… in the woods, in the dead of night. Employing the help of a couple of school mates, he struggles to come to grips with his discovery and hopes his family, his friends, his town and his best friend - can survive the mystery at Lobo Cliff.
Rod was born and raised in Tampa, Florida and was attracted to words at an early age. His first book “The Boy Who Liked To Read” was created in grade school, his teacher kept it. Eventually he discovered comic books, but his High School English teacher told him to try short story writing. He wrote middle grade adventure "The Juniors" that was picked up by a publisher, and the rest – as they say, is history.
This was the first book I read by rod Martinez. It's written for middle school age but as an adult I thoroughly enjoyed it. I was interested in the characters and what would happen to them. There was a delicacy in how the author treated having a friend with an illness. Being a cancer survivor, I found it sympathetic. The plot and suspense kept me reading.
