It all started when she learned to read at five. One of her first and favorite memories is of words taped to all the objects in the house. Not long after that, books became the best thing ever and there was no turning back.
She suffered a crisis of confidence in High School and College and decided writing was too difficult, so she earned a degree in Chemistry instead. Three career changes and four children later, she’s back to writing and much happier for it.
Now she works from her home office in New Hampshire amid the books, kids, and occasional pets. Visit her at http://LisaBouchard.com.
Bouchard combines magic and the modern world in such a way that feels so organic and real. This combined with the engaging mystery leads to a novel I had a hard time putting down; in fact, I got the book today and read the whole thing in around 4 hours. Speaking as a 22 year old, the 21 year old main character Isabella Proctor, is very relatable and feels authentic as a young adult. I also enjoyed all of the side characters and felt like every character had their own backstory outside of the plot allowing for everyone to have their own motives and personality which is something I always appreciate in a book. Overall I highly recommend this book for anyone who likes magic, mystery, and/or young adult fiction.
Isabella is only 21 and just now choosing her witchy specialty. For her, it's potions. She can put them together and take them apart just by smelling for the ingredients. She works as the intern to Trina, a much more experienced witch who owns the town apothecary and dispenses great advice along with potions and such. But Isabella comes to work one morning to find Trina murdered behind the shrubs, and suddenly, life has changed. Detective Palmer may be handsome, but he's scary in the interrogation room. Her mother is always after her to move back home, but now she's hysterical about it. Once she stops to think about things, there are even more suspects. Trina's ex has threatened her if she doesn't come up with $1,000. Her snooping efforts with her two cousins and the reading of the will get her in even deeper, and Detective Palmer has become a guardian angel, showing up each time she needs a ride somewhere. In the end, it's another witchy talent that saves the day. Recommended.
I’ve been wanting to read this for a while and it has great reviews. Ehhhh. It’s a very coming of age book while solving a murder. It’s not bad, but not terribly exciting.
Leaf of Faith, the first book in the Isabella Proctor Cozy Paranormal Mysteries series by Lisa Bouchard, is a delightful and humorous witch cozy mystery that will leave readers laughing out loud. With its quirky characters, magical twists, and a puzzling murder investigation, this book offers a captivating blend of mystery and the supernatural.
The story centers around Isabella Proctor, an aspiring potion-witch who dreams of a normal life away from magic. However, her world is turned upside down when she discovers her mentor's lifeless body and becomes the prime suspect in a murder investigation. Juggling a failing apothecary, an eccentric grandmother, and an inexperienced police department, Isabella must rely on her wit and magic to clear her name.
Lisa Bouchard's writing is engaging and filled with humor, making Leaf of Faith an entertaining and light-hearted read. The witty banter between characters and the eccentricities of Isabella's quirky family of witches add charm and levity to the story. Readers will find themselves chuckling at the humorous situations Isabella finds herself in as she navigates the magical world and attempts to solve the murder.
The author excels at creating a vivid and enchanting setting, bringing the small town and its magical elements to life. The blend of witchcraft, romance, and murder creates an engaging tapestry of mystery and intrigue. As Isabella races against time to uncover the truth, readers are treated to a thrilling ride filled with unexpected twists and turns.
Leaf of Faith is a perfect blend of cozy mystery and the paranormal. Fans of the Stephanie Plum series by Janet Evanovich will find themselves drawn to this book's humorous tone and supernatural elements. Lisa Bouchard has crafted a series opener that will appeal to readers who enjoy cozy mysteries with a touch of magic and a strong sense of family.
In conclusion, Leaf of Faith is an entertaining and light-hearted paranormal witch cozy mystery that will keep readers hooked from beginning to end. Lisa Bouchard's delightful storytelling and humorous style make this book a joy to read. With its charming characters and intriguing mystery, this series promises to be a delightful addition to the cozy mystery genre.
Leaf of Faith by Lisa Bouchard is a delightful paranormal cozy mystery. It has everything that a good paranormal cozy mystery needs to be read and enjoyed. Fun, friendship, strong family bonding, a concerned police detective, and a nice twist and turn to the story. The suspense has been well maintained until the end to keep the readers guessing about the culprit. What I loved the most about this book is the ideology that it promotes: witchcraft, or the art of magic should never be misused for hurting others or getting revenge but help the people in distress. Another thing worth appreciating is the close family bonding. Isabella Proctor is a twenty-one-year old witch working as an apprentice for Trina Bassett, as an apprentice in Portsmouth Apothecary, Portsmouth, New Hampshire. She notices her boss dealing with Mrs. Williams, a pain-in-the- neck customer. Trina is not her usual self. Isabella also overhears a threatening phone call to Trina who shrugs it off as if nothing happened. Isabella can't ignore the dreadful feeling of a disaster waiting to strike.
Her fear turns out to materialize as she stumbles upon Trina's dead body and the entire apothecary and the greenhouse being vandalized. Detective Palmer questions Isabella as a suspect. Will she be able to prove her innocence? Has someone discovered the existence of witches and started executing them? Why was Trina killed? Are there going to be more dead bodies? I highly recommend this gripping and very enjoyable paranormal cozy mystery for reading.
The first book in a new series by Lisa finds a young witch working as an apprentice to learn the art of making potions and healing tonics from her mentor and friend. Unfortunately things take a dark turn and the next morning she finds her friend dead. To add to her distress the new detective on the scene accuses her of being the killer! Well that doesn’t go over with her at all so she and her two cousins are bound to get to the bottom of this mystery and solve it. Things get complicated when her mentors ex husband and nephew start harassing her as well and then her roommate and best friend is kidnapped as well!
There is action and adventure aplenty in this book to keep one guessing and trying to find out if all these things are related or the work of one person. I recommend this book for all of you old or young who are looking for a good whodunnit with a touch of magic thrown in to make the cases interesting!
This book held my interest and I am looking forward to future books as we readers will get to know Isabella and her cousins, aunts, mother and grandmother as well as others who will drop in on occasion to add to these cozy mysteries!
I enjoyed this book. This is the first book by this author that I have read but it won't be my last, as it is a fun, clean cozy mystery with a touch of magic. I liked the characters who were likeable and fun, the family life was sweet and they had a nice dynamic that worked well for the story. The touch of magic was subtle and added a nice element to the story. The mystery was interesting and was not what I expected, so I never guessed who the killer was. Isabella turns up to work to find the potion shop ransacked and her boss and friend dead in the back garden. Just hours before Trina's death she was threatened and got into an argument. Could the person behind the phone call be responsible? Or what about her ex husband who was demanding money? The police don't have any motive for the murder and when they keep coming back to Isabella to ask questions, she decides that she will have to find the killer herself. Things get complicated when the will is read and Isabella becomes a target? Can she along with the help from her family find the killer and the motive for the murder? Or will there be another victim?
I listened to this book on Bookfunnel, even though I own an e-copy of the book. I liked the story, around chapter 16, the narrator became confused with her voices and thus confused me on who was speaking.
At first, I was concerned that this might just be a YA book but as I kept reading, I determined it wasn’t. Isabella is just 21 years old and is choosing a discipline in her witch powers. I found it interesting that in this world a choice made is one you stick with for seven years. At the end of the term, you may choose another. If you are not suited to the field you chose, then life may not be as fun as you might imagine.
Isabella is an apprentice for Trina in Trina’s apothecary shop. Isabella has a penchant for portions and can recreate them by smell. Isabella comes into work one day to find Trina dead in the shrubs outdoors. Isabella wants justice for her friend and mentor. She begins investigating and is intimidated by Detective Palmer. There are plenty of suspects and misdirections. I enjoyed the story.
This was the first book I read or listened to from the author. It won’t be the last. I would rate this a 3.5 so, I must round up.
This book had a good story with some interesting paranormal aspects. I want to read the next one to find out more about Isabella's family and her powers.

Juggling a failing apothecary, a grandmother who sees people who aren't there, and a police department inexperienced in solving murders, Isabella must use her wits and magic to clear her name.

The Proctor family's loyalty and magical prowess are put to the test in this thrilling tale of mystery, magic, and mayhem. Hold on tight as Isabella takes you on a wild and enchanting ride!
Isabella is an apprentice, a potion-witch-in-training. Isabella loves potion-making under Trina Bassett’s direction, hoping to help both humans and witches with her skills. But when her trainer’s body is discovered behind the potion shop, Isabella becomes Detective Palmer’s prime suspect. The potion shop had been broken into and the plants used in making the potions were destroyed. The witches keep a low profile to avoid anyone taking notice of them. So she and her cousins will have to investigate this themselves to discover the killer and clear her name as quickly as possible. Could she be the killer's next victim?
I enjoyed reading this cozy mystery book. The story line is intriguing, entertaining, and filled with action, adventure, and mystery to keep the reader excited and involved. Grab your copy and follow along as Isabella searches for the culprit!
A Great start to a fun paranormal cozy mystery series!!!
Isabella Proctor is working two jobs as a potion witch apprentice and at a diner to reach her dream but when her boss/mentor at the potion shop is killed and the place is ransacked and she becomes the prime suspect Isabella needs to work fast to clear her name so she and her cousins start their investigation to find the killer before it's too late.
I really enjoy the good fast-paced storyline with delightful characters, very entertaining and hard to put down. The story is well put together and the plot keeps you entertained as you try to figure out the mystery, the twists and turns are abundant in this adventurous paranormal cozy mystery. This book is a must read for paranormal cozy mystery fans. I can't wait to read the next book in the series.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Our heroine is stilling trying to find the right balance in her life, but when she is suspected of murdering her mentor, it does not help at all. It looks like solving this case has just become her first priority.
This is book one of the series, so no issues there.
A title that starts out with a food pun is a good starting point for me and this one certainly lives up to my expectations. The story is well written and easy to read with a wonderful sense of humor throughout. The characters are also well developed and provide a rich tapestry on which to base the story. The mystery is a rather good one at that. I loved how all these elements came together to provide a very enjoyable reading experience. And I definitely look forward seeing what kind of trouble our heroine gets into next time.
Highly recommended.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout for review purposes.
Leaf of Faith is Book 1 in the Isabella Proctor series by Lisa Bouchard. The book is about Isabella Proctor, a young witch, who after her mentors murder, inherits an apothecary shop. She encounters a magical family, killer running loose, and a suspicious detective. Leaf of Faith is a funny and engaging read that had me hooked from beginning to end. The writing is believable, funny at times, and there is of course romance. Isabella was my favorite character being that she is smart and a brave heroine. The characters are well developed and very likable. The mystery had some twists and turns that will surprise the reader; but are well plotted. I love the friendship between Isabella and Lily along with the book's family dynamics. The writing is smooth and a joy to read. She has a good blend of dialogue and description in the book. If you love paranormal books I recommend you add this to your TBR list or give as a gift. I look forward to the next book in this series. I received this book from the publisher and was not required to leave a review. The words and opinions are my own.
First in series. Isabella works in a potion shop as a apprentice for Trina. She is training to learn to make potions to help Humans as well as witches,She gets tested as well. She loves her jobs she also works in a bakery to make money to pay for her appartment with her best friennd Abby. The adventure starts when she is called to come to dinner at home, her grandmother isnt doing well, she makes a potion under Trina's guidence to help her. Thing go badly quickly, she finds her boss murdered a few days later. the potion shop is ramsacked, as well as the plants for potions are ruined. She sets out to find who was the murderer, with the help of her cousins, allies, friends, frenemies and enemies are coming out demanding she do thing that she is unable to do. this will keep you guessing to the end. nice twisted adventure. Showing strenght and belief that she will find her path.
A very good start, with a few issues. Witch-in-training Isabella is an interesting character with a strong sense of self, which is nice. The strong female family, while ubiquitous in paranormal cozy mysteries, is well positioned. I had a bit of trouble with the character development; I have little sense of which woman is which in the family, and though Abby is described as roommate and best friend, I get little sense of where or how that friendship occurs. The seven-year focus areas are an interesting concept.
There are a few spots where a copyeditor would have been invaluable, and sometimes I question Bouchard's idea of how capitalization works in written English.
Still, overall the story is good and appears to be an excellent opener for a series. I look forward to reading others at some time, though I'm not going out immediately to purchase them.
3 stars. Fun little cozy mystery. Isabella is an apprentice herbalist/bakery helper. As per the cozy mystery book writing formula, she has moved out of the family mansion and is working two jobs to make ends meet. But wait, there's more: the twist is she and her family are witches. There is a murder, the family helps the cutie pie detective solve it. The characters were interesting and the family interactions were well written and moved the plot along. First in a series, so we get a little bit of everything as we meet the characters and the town. Once the scenes get set, so to speak, it moves right along and was a well done little book. I enjoyed the book and since there are like nine books in the series, I should get busy reading all of them.
Isabella Proctor is a potion witch in training, but when she discovers her boss and mentor dead, she is determined to find the culprit. Although the police are on the case, they don’t always know about the magical side of things, and that means there are some things only Isabella can do…
This is a cute cosy paranormal mystery, featuring young witch Isabella Proctor, and the Proctor family. There are all kinds of magical shenanigans going on, with plenty of family arguments and togetherness, and a hint of possible romance. It’s an enjoyable cosy read, perfect for curling up under a blanket on a cold winter’s day, or reading on the beach if it’s summer!
Mild spoilers This is a fun cozy with a magical twist. Isabella is a young witch from an old family who is being mentored in the art of potions. Her mentor and friend is murdered and she is determined to find the culprit when the investigation stalls. With some help from a very overprotective family, a hunky police detective and some friends both new and old she is able to crack the case. A quick, lighthearted read. I loved the town, the mostly friendly townsfolk and the Proctor family as a whole. Isabella is young but eager to learn and be independent a first for the family. Absolutely would recommend!
Isabella loved her job as an apprentice at the Portsmouth Apothecary until the day she found her boss's body by the greenhouse. Who would kill such a sweet witch? The list of suspects keeps growing and the police aren't making progress fast enough. When bad things start happening to her she decides to solve the case with the help of her family whether Detective Palmer likes it or not.
This is a perfect book for the beach or anytime a fun cozy is needed during the day. I like the way this series is starting and look forward to the next book. I received a free copy of this book but my review is honest and voluntary.
This is one of the best paranormal mysteries I've read this year! Lots of interesting people, witches, humor, twists, and magic. The friendships between the cousins add so much! It's a multilayered plot which was not only intriguing--it created natural "red herrings" along the way to solving the mystery. One of my favorite storylines is what looks to be an enemies-to-friends situation.
It's a clean read with "happy ever afters" for more than just the main characters. This story resolves, with plenty of leads to fuel a continuing stoy arc. I'm looking forward to the rest of the series!
Witches, you say! Oh my! When you want your independence but can't seem to get away from all your family members what do you do? Work two jobs of course! Isabella wants to be a potion witch and is apprenticing with the witch who owns the apothecary and then she works at the diner for money to pay the bills. This is a wonderfully written murder mystery with witchcraft thrown in. The characters are absolutely fascinating. The scenes spark your imagination. This is a very enjoyable book. I was given an ebook by SRP and this is my voluntary, honest review.
A good start to a new series. Isabella, a potion witch in training, comes into the apothecary to find her mentor and boss dead beside the greenhouse. With enough people who either covert her shop, or her money or her potions, there was no end to the murder suspects.
A fund and exciting read, with great characters and Isabella herself is a good egg. Her network support is so good and caring and even includes the neighbours. Now where can you find such a lot of decent people? Looking forward to the next book from Bouchard.
Isabella Proctor is a potions witch. Her mentor is a distant relative , Trina.
As Isabella and her cousins face their next series of magical studies, death and dangers visit their town and those around them
Community, friendships and neighbors play important roles in dealing with their troubles- and they find welcome surprises in the talents of a witchy friendly neighbor
Action and drama packed adventure
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Isabella is a witch and has become an apprentice to a special lady,Trina. She finds her dead one morning, and the whole shop and all the herbs etc that she used in her apothecary damaged beyond repair. Isabella had heard some threats to Trina but things got out of hand, threats came thick and fast. On top of this her flat mate, Abby, has been kidnapped. She needs the help of her own family of witches, and the help of a detective who is determined to keep her safe, to protect her self, family and friends.
A hugely entertaining story. Isabella, witch, apprentice apothecary with an loving but protective family of witches is shocked to find the body of her mentor and friend in their shop. I loved the plot, the characters especially Isabella and her family. There were lots of good suspects and the killer was unexpected and I didn't not spot them until the climax. I. Will definitely be reading more of these books. I received a complimentary copy from Booksprout but then bought the book anyway.
I'm a huge fan of paranormal mysteries and this was my perfect jam.
The writing pulls you into the quaint town with witches. The story moves at a good pace without introducing too many characters at one (I hate when that happens).
The murder mystery hooks you and the pages rush by as Isabella and you try to figure out who killed her herbalist mentor Trina. I had no idea who the killer was until it was revealed in the story. I really loved Isabella's extended family because they come through for her when it really matters.
An absolute pleasure to read. I highly recommend this book!
