This book is one that I need on my shelf, not just a digital copy. Trying to capture all of my praise for this work feels impossible and might require a second or third read-through.

But I will say that, among the many emotions and experiences that arose, this book made me nostalgic for the 90s, made me weep, actually laugh out loud, reevaluate my own biases and expectations around grief and forgiveness, and most importantly, brought me to empathize with adults and (current) underage children processing the horrors of a loved one experiencing addiction.

Carly brings you on her own journey of struggling through the complexity of addiction, loss, trauma, and healing. Along the way, as a third party participant, I felt gently invited to look inwardly to my own inner child and the parental wounds that my adult self hasn't fully processed. True storytelling masterpieces throughout oral and written tradition have the ability to be so zeroed in on an experience that can reach and grow the hearts of the masses.

It also was such a gentle invitation to look inward and to love my own inner child that did what they had to do to survive.

The author's writing voice is: lyrical without being superfluous, playful with a timeless feel,
Carly Mee tackles a gut-wrenchingly painful subject matter with the writing chops of a seasoned author and the wisdom of someone with a wealth of knowledge and healing from their own personal growth.

I already have a mental shortlist of people that NEED to experience the beauty of this book. Hands down one of the best reads within the last 4 years for me!

Some Scared Sister by c.s. mee is raw and powerfully heartbreaking. I found myself needing time to fully absorb it. Bare on the page, she weaves flashbulb tales of deep longing—for family, for healing through art, for escape from addiction—and the anguish of words left unsaid.

Some Scared Sister is a visceral journey through the human experience told by a woman with a very unique voice. In addition to the colorful and gorgeous darkness, there are uplifting and inspiring poems in here, poems to give you life. Enjoy the spectrum of sensation.
