Rate this book
I am a Ruptor of the Circulus clan. I kill without mercy. That is my purpose.

The De Vita have invaded the bordering territory and abducted our fledglings. Now I have new infiltrate that hated clan. To complete this task, my circle must be broken. It is the mark of an exile and cuts off all ties to my kin. A broken circle is the greatest dishonor one can receive.

Such pain matters not. I will do anything to destroy those who hoard life and disrespect death.

When the devastatingly handsome De Vita prince catches a glimpse of the Ruptor in me, I expect derision and hatred. Instead he calls me Mercy and claims me as his. What is more, I'm to compete to be the prince's mate.

I will do what I was born for. I must find the prince's weakness and exploit it before I succumb to his charms. My circle is no more, but that that does not make me weak.

There is no room for failure. De Vita will break, just as I have been broken.

I felt like this book lasted forever even though the length is pretty standard. The world and fantasy aspect is really interesting. I didn’t read the first book so I’m not sure if there’s more explanation in that one in regard to where they are and how it all works.

If you love a high fantasy enemies to lovers story I really recommend this one. The plot was immersive and at times I was like, omg can’t they get a break!? I’m a bit confused on the ending but it looks like there will be a third book and maybe that’ll clear up all the warnings given at the end.

He kills without mercy and it’s easy for him. The fledglings have been taken and he needs to save them. He knows it will not be easy. He is about to meet them who will see him in a very different way. How will it all go? Will he save all the fledglings? How will he get on with them? See how they get on

A really unique and interesting world here, and I loved every second reading about. In Circulus weakness is unacceptable and those weak, even people that have simply gotten a simple wound, are taken 'for their circles to be filled' (death). In De Vita, the clan is obsessed with prolonging life in spite of all the pain and suffering people feel in their last days. Both sides have their major problems, and much can come from learning from each other and possibly meeting in the middle. We catch glimpses of this with the developing of our main characters, Claeg and Anastisius's, relationship.

Claeg is the Ruptor of the Circulus, the executioner for his people who meets every soul on their first day and finishes the life of every soul on their last. He hunts for and kills weakness. The De Vita are taking the young of the Circulus, enslaving them, and Claeg is tasked to go to De Vita to investigate why this is happening. To do so he must break his circle, the mark of exile, as the De Vita will not take any Circulus into their territory. And so he does, even when its the greatest pain that can be done to him, for him to be exiled.

He finds the prince of De Vita, Anastisius, and instead of him taking Claeg as his prisoner he takes him as his Selected, his choice in a series of trials to be appointed the mate of the heir to De Vita. He doesn't see in Claeg as a hunter or ruthless, but a strong and merciful being. He is determined to make Claeg his mate, even though his father will taken any action necessary to stop it.

I really loved Claeg and Anastisius's relationship. From an instant connection between them but Claeg dead set in completing his mission and using Anastisius, and Anastisius has his own motivations too, to protectiveness and possessiveness, equally strong on both sides. I did not feel this was the end of their story, and it does seem it is not, but if we get another book it wont be from either of their POVs. I still hope to hear from them some more one day. Thank you Mrs Beverly for giving me the chance to get a little glimpse into this world.

Claeg, his people’s Ruptor, has been sent on a special mission to spy on a rival clan called De Vita. As a Circulus, he knows he is strong and can complete this task. When he is rescued by Anastasius, the Prince of the De Vita, Claeg first feels as if this is a stroke of luck, but soon realizes that he is a distraction. He calls him Mercy and enters him into a competition to become his mate.

I had a hard time with this story in the beginning. I was distracted by the terms, but that was quickly over come when the action become compelling and exciting. Both clans had problem with ideology and neither appeared willing to compromise or change. Claeg was the same until he spent more time in Anastasius’s company. It opened his eyes and he could see beyond his training. Actual and construed sadism was present on both sides and you could not help but route for a happy ending for these two. There is more to come and many question to resolve. We can all look forward to next book with anticipation.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book and this is my very own opinion.

The complex worldbuilding, well written characters, and emotionally charged plot held my attention from the very first page to the very last. I was captivated by the vivid descriptions and exquisite details right away. Great work on the character arcs; the protagonists and antagonists were both believable and compelling. The romance started off slowly and enticed, but it built up to a powerful and stunning finish. Yet another one of Stephanie Beverly's wonderful books!I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.

Loved the first book in this great fantasy series and this was such a great addition. The authors word building skills are excellent and they weave such a great storyline that literally holds your attention from beginning to end. So much emotion and loved the great relationship build which was a slow burn but oh such a hot culmination! This as well as the great secondary characters make it a definite must read and am so looking forward to more from Stephanie.
I received a free arc copy and this is my honest review.

Gorgeous writing, deeply emotional and moving characters, and rich worldbuilding sucked me right in and didn't let go until the final pages. I was immediately drawn by the poignant descriptions and beautiful details. The characters were strong but relatable, and their arcs were wonderfully done. The romance was slow and tantalizing, but ultimately powerful and beautiful by the end. Another fabulous read by Stephanie Beverly!

What a great story. I've always been a fan of stories where the hitman falls for their assigned target and that's what we have here as Claeg leaves his people to go off, get close to Prince Anastasius in order to kill him. Their eventual mutual attraction leads them to closely examine the ideologies they've grown up with and the views they've been taught about "the other". Great world building. Can't wait to read more in this series.

This was a very unique world. Weakness was unacceptable and had to be pruned lest it poison the whole, and if that weakness was within a person they had to go. The makeup of the characters personalities were very intriguing in how they differed. An engaging read and interested in reading more of this series.
