Meow and Furever Cat Café #2

Finding Mr. Purrfect

Rate this book
Frenemies + Fake Dating = Falling for the wrong person…for all the right reasons

Charity Simmons may have great taste in friends, felines, and fruit tarts, but if there’s one thing the baker and co-owner of Meow and Furever Cat Café knows, it’s that she has horrible taste in men. Case in point: Will Schwartz. He may be the best friend of her best friend’s boyfriend, but after their one night together, Charity is positive Will’s nothing but a womanizing charmer—despite his nice-guy persona and adorable, crooked smile. So why then did she pick him to fake-date to get her parents off her back about being single?

Will Schwartz may give relationships a hard pass, but he’s not about to say no to fake-dating Charity. She’s brilliant, hilarious, and best of all, she’ll put an end to his mother’s interrogations about his love life. And maybe, after all this time giving him the cold shoulder, Charity will finally warm up to him. But it’s not long before Will and Charity realize they got much more than they bargained for--and they’re freaking out. What if what they have isn't make believe but the real, forever kind of love?

From the time I could put a Disney Book cassette into my little stereo, and read along, books have held a fantastic distraction. When I was eleven, I decided I wanted to be one of those magical people that brought stories to life. Devouring a book a day sometimes, my first romance novel stuck with me. I've always been a sucker for a happy ending (and the great romantic gesture)and that's what I try to put into my stories. I am so honored to be a part of Avon, and am so excited to have my own dreams coming true.

Finding Mr. Purrfect was a fantastic read featuring a fake relationship between a café owner and the best friend of her best friend’s boyfriend.

After a series of poor relationships, Charity Simmons has sworn off men and decided she's going to put all of her energy into making the Meow and Furever Cat Café a success. When her best friend Kara and her boyfriend Ben have to back out of a trip at the last minute, Charity finds herself on a trip to Mexico with Will Schwartz, Ben's best friend. Charity knows Will is nothing more than a womanizing charmer but after her parents get on her case about being single, she convinces Will to fake-date to get her parents off her back. Will has no interest in long-term relationships but he's not about to say no to spending more time with Charity. However the more time Charity and Will spend together, the more their fake relationship feels real.

After reading A Cat Café Christmas, I really liked Charity's character so I was looking forward to reading her romance. Plus fake dating is one of my favorite romance tropes so I was excited to pick this one up. Right away Charity and Will have amazing chemistry and I loved the banter between them. Eventually after the two fake date for a while, they realize there could be something real between them and agree to give a real relationship a shot. They do want completely different things out of life, Charity wants a husband and family while Will just wants to date without ever getting married, which does put a bit of a damper on things. I really enjoyed the direction their romance went and liked how they worked out the issues between them.

Throughout the book, Charity and Will are both dealing with issues in their personal lives. Charity is having problems with her overbearing family as well as trying to work out how to expand the kitchen at the café to expand the catering side of the business. Will is dealing with problems at his job as he works out what direction he wants to take his career. I liked how the author handled each of these storylines and particularly enjoyed how the expansion to the café one wrapped up.

Overall Finding Mr. Purrfect was a great book and I would highly recommend it if you're looking for a cute contemporary.

4.5/5 Rounded Up

I fell in love with the Meow and Furever Cat Café series from the very first book, and I hope it never ends! Finding Mr. Purrfect focuses on Charity and Will and is in the fake dating trope which is probably my favorite one. Once again Codi Gary created a fun and sweet storyline with plenty of laughter and a dash of the serious as well. Charity has an interesting relationship with her dad and this book definitely explores that along with the romance. I loved the focus on family and of course the cats and food!

The audiobook is narrated by Henriette Zoutomou and I'm glad they picked someone other than the narrator for A Cat Café Christmas. Not because she was bad, but because I love it when they change the narrator up when the main character changes. Zoutomou was phenomenal as the voice of Charity, and I loved listening to her.

Each chapter starts with a cat-themed recipe name which was adorable, and I was happy to see Kara and Ben's relationship grow in this book as well. Finding Mr. Purrfect could easily be read as a standalone and while I like reading in order for the most part, I don't think it is necessary with this series. I do wish there had been a little more humor and a little less drama, but it was cute, and I had lots of fun listening to it!

This was a good, quick read. It had lots of good family drama, but I thought it was kinda light on the romance. I was never fully convinced of Charity and Will's chemistry and wish they had more scenes together.

I wish the Baking Show had been expanded more, but maybe that would have taken away from the other story threads in this book.

I liked the first one better but this was good too. I really enjoyed holding a physical book (instead of a kindle which is how I read the first one or an audiobook which has been my poison of choice lately).

I loved this! I enjoyed it even more than the first book in the series (I hope the author writes another one!)
Loved the storyline in this one so much. Will and Charity have amazing chemistry, too. And of course, love all of the cats. Hehe. :)

2.5 stars unfortunately rounded down. I enjoyed A Cat Cafe Christmas, the prequel to Finding Mr. Purrfect, because it was cute and sweet, and unfortunately, this one wasn't as cute or sweet and was just more annoying.

Finding Mr. Purrfect picks up right after A Cat Cafe Christmas. As an aside, this is not billed as the sequel, but I think this one would make way more sense if you've read A Cat Cafe Christmas. Will and Charity, respective best friends of Ben and Kara who are newly together, end up in Mexico together for a week-long vacation, and after a week of mostly avoiding each other, they have a magical New Year's Eve night and end up sleeping together. And here's where the first annoying thing happens: Charity overhears Will on the phone with Ben, and Will says something like "no, we're just friends," which upsets Charity because she thought there was something between the two of them. Charity confronts Will, and he explains that he didn't mean it, but he just wanted to talk to Charity before telling Ben anything. Is this ideal? No, but Will is honest about it and clear that he doesn't think of Charity as "just a friend." Charity doesn't buy his reasoning, and is mad at him for like 5 chapters after this. Which was annoying. Will explained himself, and although maybe it wasn't the right thing to do, it felt genuine when he told Charity that he did have feelings for her.

From there, it just continues to be dramatic and chaotic. There's the plot line about Charity's family: her parents have never really been supportive of her (think Emily and Richard Gilmore), and they're actively cold and harsh toward her. Her parents also keep trying to set her up with people, which is how Will and Charity end up fake dating as a ploy to get her parents off her back. But not before they introduce her to Chris, who continues to pursue Charity even after she says she's dating Will??? He says he is okay and just wants to be friends with her, but it just feels weird to have him stick around for such a long time and continue to invite Charity to things.

Then there's Will's lingering trauma from growing up living paycheck to paycheck and being very worried about money to the point that he... doesn't want to get married because he doesn't want to be financially tied to someone. Like he's never heard of separate bank accounts. The resolution to this plot line is also extremely rushed and unsatisfying.

And there's the plot line where Charity is selected to be a contestant on a baking show. This plot line is half-baked (pun very intended). It doesn't start until maybe 60% through the book, and it's not super clear what the rules of the show are or what's happening. It all happens quickly, very little actual baking is mentioned, and there's an actual villain on the show, which feels weird for his villain-ness to be such a short plot point.

I feel mixed about the Jewish rep in this story -- Will is Jewish, and there are some pretty funny casual moments I appreciated, like when Charity's father asks Will to say grace at a family dinner and he politely declines. But, I would have appreciated more actual Jewish rep instead of just a few funny moments and his mom constantly asking him about grandkids.

It wasn't all bad, though. The scenes in the cat cafe are still cute, and there are a few sweet plot points that advance the success of the cat cafe and vet clinic. I also read it in ~24 hours. But the more I think about it, the less I like it and the more frustrated I feel about it.

Thank you to NetGalley and Forever for providing me with an eARC of Finding Mr. Purrfect in exchange for my honest review.

If you know me, you know I love cats and cat cafes. This book made me not only want to adopt all the cats mentioned but I also wanted to eat all the treats from the cafe. I laughed so much while reading this book. It also had just the right amount of spice to it. This book is a sequel but you don’t necessarily have to read Cat Café Christmas to be able understand the story, but this librarian recommends you always start with book one in a series. If you want to visit an actual cat café I high recommend Whiskers Cat Café in Kansas City. My two cats are from there.
I received an advance copy of this book.

Sadly I didn't love this one. It starts off with two people meeting on a Mexican vacation and later striking up a fake relationship back IRL. Sort of an opposites attract situation with lots of toxic family drama, a reality baking show contest and a cat cafe. Good on audio but I was disappointed that this one didn't deliver the same kind of humor I've come to expect in her novels. Many thanks to NetGalley and the publisher for an early digital copy in exchange for my honest review!

DNF’ed sorry.

What I liked:
😻 A cat cafe
🐾 Cute cat menu items described at the beginning of each chapter
♥️The Mexico chapters I was feeling so much chemistry and enjoying this read

What I didn’t like:
🚪Closed door romance
💬 The dialogue felt forced and unrealistic to me.
🫠 The chemistry seemed to go away when Will and Charity returned from Mexico
❓Miscommunication

Thank you to NetGalley and the Publisher for allowing me to read this book in exchange for an honest review. This book was not for me, but I can see the appeal for other people so I give it two stars.

Charity is beautiful, independent and smart and she runs a cat cafe (which is simultaneously an adoption center) with her friend, where she bakes for purrfection. She spends the final night of her holiday with Will, who she doesn’t really like initially but is the best friend of her friend’s partner. Will is the perfect gentleman that ladies flock to. Next day morning doesn’t end well and they both leave with remorse.

What will happen if Charity decides to fake date Will to get away from family pressure? Charity is looking for her Mr. Purrfect and is ready to settle down but Will on the other hand doesn’t believe in marriage. How does this different perspectives of love and marriage intertwine with their lives? Both Charity and Will are also making up their way on their careers making things more complicated. Will our FMC and MMC have a happily ever after despite all their differences?

I really enjoyed this book. Absolutely adored the cat cafe, all the cat cameos and wonderful bakery items discussed. They made such a pretty picture. Every chapter starts with a cat themed cafe item which is a dream for cat lovers. The relationship dynamics are well written and I specially liked how strong willed Charity is. Will is rather complicated but I enjoyed his character arc as well. Oh but I hated Charity’s family! They are unbearable and I really couldn’t digest how unappreciated she was in her own family. You would love this book if you enjoy,
-Opposites attract
-Cats
-Strong FMC
-Fake dating
-Closed door romance
-Family drama

Finding out about affogatto cat cafe in Cleveland OH through the author acknowledgment was sweet too. Can’t wait to visit them.

Readforever, thank you so much for my ARC. All thoughts are of my own.

I loved A Cat Cafe Christmas and was excited to read this follow up featuring two supporting characters from it. This is a standalone so you don't need to have read ACCC but I'd recommend it b/c it's a really great read.

I went in with very high expectations and Finding Mr. Purrfect was a bit of a letdown. This book is all about the family drama to the point that the romance felt very overshadowed by it.

While I wasn't crazy about this book, I would read future books from this author.

I received a complimentary copy of this book from Forever (Grand Central Publishing) through NetGalley. Opinions expressed in this review are completely my own. Thank you, Forever (Grand Central Publishing).

I have read better “fake dating” trope storylines. This one fell flat. The characters are two-dimensional, the MCs are pretty awful to each other when they don’t get their way or try to protect their own feelings, and everyone in the book needs a good dose of therapy. It got better as the book went on, but I’m talking over halfway through. If this weren’t for an ARC review, I probably would’ve DNF’d.

oh, how i love this book and this couple. i knew i loved charity and will in the first book but seeing how complex and human their characters were in this one made that love blossom ten folds! their romance was so sweet and witty. if you are a banter lover this book is perfect for you! this book made me remember why i love romance so much. it made my hopeless romantic heart very very happy. it solidified how much i love Cody Gary/Hall's writing and how good her storytelling is. this whole duology was just so lovable and perfect in my heart. i loved seeing to people coming together and growing on their own before truly realising they are made for eachother. with the duo pov, we can fully be in both character's head and just immerse ourselves in their journey. i think it was the best decision to read both books closer together like this. anyways, i will definitely recommend this duology a lot now ahaha.

The sequel to A Cat Cafe Christmas, Finding Mr. Purrfect sees Cat Cafe co-owner Charity falling for her best friend's boyfriend's best friend. The only problem is that he's sworn to never marry and that's a deal breaker for Charity. This, fun sweet romance is the perfect poolside read for cat lovers everywhere.

I am allergic to cats.

No, the story was fine, but there was just TOO much going on. It was a quick read, but the writing felt rather simplistic and some of the dialogue felt stilted. The cat puns were distracting and after a while I just stopped reading the descriptions before each chapter. Also, I hate when I'm tricked into reading a sequel without having read the first. GR still doesn't say this is a sequel, nor does Edelweiss or Fantastic Fiction. But it definitely is.

Charity and Will end up having a steamy night together on vacation after their best friends end up bailing on their planned group trip. When Charity makes out Will to be her new boyfriend to get her parents off her back Will decides to go along with it since he doesn’t plan on ever being in a committed relationship and his mom has been pestering him as well. The more time Charity and Will spend together the more they realize there is more then just attraction between them. As Charity faces more heat about being on a reality baking show and Will deals with his mom’s illness they begin to depend and support each other. But will everything go up in flames?

I loved what a strong female character Charity is and how she pursues her dreams no matter the familial pressures she has to endure. An having a mom with a chronic illness I connected with Will as well. And of course, CATS!!!

This is a sequel to a Cat Cafe Christmas that isn't billed as such for some reason, much to my annoyance. It picks up immediately after the events of that book and the first five or so chapters refenernce the events of that book a lot.

Once we got away from that and deleting like I was missing a lot from not having reread a Cat Cafe Christmas, I started to enjoy this more. It's a very easy read, but nothing special. It's a very forgettable book and the things that did stand out weren't great.

The reality show plotline was completely unnecessary, it was alluded to throughout then when we got there it was over in like two chapters.

Then there was his sister. I see what the author was trying to do but having Will out his sister to their mom was not okay and no one acted like that was the big deal it was. Also with that, she read to me as aro but either the author doesn't know about aromantics so didn't include that or this was bad ace rep that conflated the two.

cute read! satisfying communication between the characters and rewarding character development by the end. i kind of wanted sarah to be a lesbian and im still holding out hope for that tbh 🤞🤞 #teamchill had some very sweet touching moments but their chemistry was a liittle lacking to me. i liked their banter but there's just a little spice (not in the booktok way ❌️) that wasn't quite there. also, the baking comp felt kind of rushed and i thought it would take up more of the story and introduce some interesting conflict. but the emotionally rewarding moments were really touching—especially charity's resolution with her family. overall an easy and sweet read 🩷😽

This one had pretty solid individual character developments in the face of past trauma and adversities, but that was kind of the main focus of the book. There is a fake dating romance going on, but they have some pretty ugly fights at the beginning and at the third act breakup, which were a bit unpleasant? I found the family drama and cruelty also to be unpleasant (esp the FMC's side?), the book needs TWs mentioned at the beginning.

TWs - misogyny, fat shaming, cheating, anxiety, lack of support / discouragement and shaming by family members

The fake-dating trope is so stupid to me and had I read the summary before grabbing this one I might not have picked it out… and what a disappointment that would have been because I love these two characters!
Charity is honest and genuine and not afraid to say what she thinks. Will is thoughtful and caring and such a good friend. It was a blast to follow along on their friends-to-lovers journey.
I did feel the ending was a bit abrupt, but overall I really liked this one.

While this book sometimes seemed easy to guess it always had me on my toes in some way. While red flags and plenty of problems were shown in this book, it showed me exactly what I’m looking for in my love life. The story between the characters and the sub plots all seemed so relatable and realistic that it was hard to put the book down. While it wasn’t the best book that I have ever read, it will be a staple in my collection. This book was 🐾 itively perfect!

I loved that there was now spicy included in this book as well. It shows that the author can hold a reader even without giving them exactly what they want from the characters.

I knew from the first time that Will mentioned he didn’t want to get married that we would end seeing him get married. The amount of times the “I don’t want to get married” trope was shoved down our throats throughout the book was truly exhausting. I listened to the book and I kept increasing the playback speed so I could be done sooner. Also the book was poorly written overall.

I really enjoyed the end, but I’m like…. Unreasonably annoyed that they’d both leave their families during Christmas/NYE. especially Will! It just didn’t make sense.
But I really enjoyed once the fake dating trope took effect. Then I was locked tf in.
