An excellent guide on how to better navigate the unexpected challenges of parenting.
There are many wonderful concepts here that I found myself applying outside of the interactions with our neurodivergant son. Concepts that display empathy and kindness in a manner that should not be isolated to only those with a diagnosis, but to all kids. The success of us as parents can be marked in those ideas and how we best apply them in our every day.
I also greatly appreciated the section on having a partner who is neurodivergant. This small section provided some wonderful reflections on the inner-workings of my own wife's mind and where her struggles originate. I have new tools to address our own conflicts in a kind and compassionate manner as opposed to assuming she should act a certain way based on my own bias'.
All in all I would highly recommend this book to parents and would especially recommend it to those who interact with neurodivergant individuals on a regular basis. Teachers, healthcare providers and public servants would do well to reflect on the lessons displayed in Hayden's text and apply it to their practices.
