Monica Townsend returns to the city bringing a surprise - Chase Travers' daughter, Hope, whom she had given birth to seven years earlier. Various emotions arise, and reactions take place, as family members learn of Hope's existence.
In another part of the city, private investigator, Dee Fleischman, is scared of the masked man who chases her; the last time, she just managed to escape. Does it have anything to do with her recent questions about Tyler Washington? Is she getting close to finding the man who stole her daughter's heart so long ago?
What about Jack Steele, the broken man preparing to pull the trigger that will put him out of his misery? It was a job he decided long ago that Tyler Washington would perform, before he disappeared. Will Jack succeed with his mission or will a higher power than himself, finally, bring redemption?

We first met Monica and Chase in An Affair to Remember and they were such strong characters. They had been thrown into an impossible situation and fell in love. Their story needs to be read before reading this one. After eight years Chase and Monica come back together. Although the situation is not perfect due to secrets and pain that is haunting their relationship.
I really love Monica and Chase. They both now have a heart for God and are trying to right wrongs from so long ago. Even after their secrets are revealed there are painful repercussions. There is a hopefulness in the book that helps as the turmoil of the situations become almost overwhelming. We also meet new characters and they have mysteries and suspense in their own right.
I love the way that Norma Budden builds the story with layers of facts, emotions, and backstories. It is a wonderful way to follow the story. I look forward to reading Dee and Jack's story along with Tyler and Judy's reunion. It should be a powerful story with a lot of mysteries and suspense as well.
This story continues where An Affair to Remember left off so it would be a good idea to read it before this one. But, at the beginning of this story, there are a lot of details about what happened in that one, so you will be able to figure everything out if you haven't read the first book in this series. Even so, I do suggest you read it first because it will help you understand how Chase and Monica got together in the first place.
In When Love Abides, we see how each character reacts to Monica's return after being away for so many years. Especially when she comes back with a 7-year-old daughter who she never told Chase (the father) about. While it's nice to find out what happened to Monica and Chase, the main story in this book had me feeling many different emotions. Dee Fleischman finds Jack Steele in a park. He hates the man he has become and had enough of life. Thankfully, Dee talks him down. But she has her own problems. Someone is trying to kill her. Probably because of all the questions she was asking about a man she was trying to find.
This is a well and intricately written novel. So much so, that I could feel the pain this couple went through. I thought it was wrong of Monica to keep her daughter a secret and to make the one other person who knew about her, keep the secret, too. But the way everyone reacted to finding out about the child was well done and believable.
I liked An Affair to Remember (Freedom in Love #1) so that when I was offered When Love Abides (Freedom in Love #2) to review, I jumped at the chance. If you like relationship drama and mysteries, you will like this book.
I was given a copy of WHEN LOVE ABIDES for free in exchange for my honest review.
WHEN LOVE ABIDES is the second book of the series FREEDOM IN LOVE. In my review of the first book AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER, I suggested you get 2 copies of the book - one for your library and one to give to a friend. At that time I had no idea how addicted I would become to the characters in this series. It's obvious to me that this is a series that you'll want in your library but you need to get the entire series (based on the quality of this book. It's my strong suggestion that you get all 5 books at the same time so you don't have to wait for the next book to be in stock again. Yes, if I am correct, a lot of people will be getting the entire series and it's entirely possible that the next book in the series might not be available when you want it.
WHEN LOVE ABIDES has memorable characters, conversation that normal people use, a chase scene that left my fingernails chewed and surprises along the way.
This book, along with AN AFFAIR TO REMEMBER, would make wonderful gifts to everyone that like clean Christian romance with suspense rolled in. WARNING: If you give a gift of only two books from the series, suggest that the recipient of your gift get the other 3 books as soon as possible. You will DEFINITELY want this series in YOUR library!
Mission Impossible meets The Notebook part 2. The series continues and you absolutely can not put it down. I was blessed enough to Edit this masterpiece and what an amazing piece of work. This story touches your soul. Real life gets in the way of expectations and desires. Major drama runs throughout this book enough to keep you reading as fast as you can and turning those pages. I finished it in one night, just cause I couldn't put it down. LOVE IT.
Nearly eight years after fleeing from Chase Travers' arms, Monica Townsend returns with a surprise - a daughter Chase did not know he sired. However, Ace Townsend knew and, when that knowledge becomes public, it has a devastating effect on all concerned. Meanwhile, someone is out to destroy private investigator, Dee Fleischman, and she is running scared. Could it have anything to do with the questions she has been asking, trying to find Tyler Washington, the man who stole her daughter's heart so long ago? What about Jack Steele who gave up a life of crime, the man preparing to pull the trigger that will put him out of his misery? Will he succeed with his mission of will a higher power than himself, finally, bring redemption?
The story picks up 8 years after the first in the series, An Affair To Remember.
The beginning finds Monica and Chase reuniting. The reasons they were apart for so long are explained then further complications set in. The couple decides to weigh their options independently to decide if they should remain together forever or separate for good. What happened next sets a series of event into motion that may make their decision for them.
I love this book because it is not your typical love story. For the most part it shows real life challenges and decisions couples need to make. The suspense part comes in when a third party unknowingly stirs up the pot.
An absolutely excellent read by Norma Budden! The story of Chase and Monica continues after a separation of eight years. Monica returns after receiving an e-mail from Chase and brings an unexpected surprise. Ace and Jack are plagued by their past lives which brings more suspense and danger to their friends and families. There is a strong thread of faith and forgiveness throughout the book. Thank you Norma Budden for this Great Series!
I won a copy of this book on Goodreads. This is an honest review. I thought this book was well written and I liked the fact it took place in Canada. With it being the second book in a series I had a hard time figuring out the characters relationships to each other and their back stories. If you like a quick read this is a good book, though I would think it wise to read the first book in Norma Buddens freedom in love series.
