This is the fifth book in the Scottish Witches mysteries series. Each book follows a different character, and this time, the protagonist is Jem. I thought the author did a great job with setting the scene and creating a fun-filled atmosphere. As the story progressed, I felt this had more sci-fi and fantasy elements than the previous books, and it was a page turner. I felt like I was on an adventure, with Jem and the other characters.
I've read all the books in this series so far, and really liked them. This fifth instalment was a great continuation of the series. I think that if you haven't read the previous books, each book still works as a standalone. I would recommend the whole series though.
Thank you to Booksirens and the author for a free copy to review.
Jemima Rivers longs to break free. With unrequited dreams for travel. A packed suitcase collecting dust under her bed, the dutiful weather witch juggles a fragile mom and her duties to the community. This is a good paranormal mystery. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
Fifth in the series, this one follows Jem Rivers and her weather witch sisters. It was a bit different than the previous books in the Scottish Witches series in that the coven does not seem to be as involved as in previous books, until it is imperative that they come together to defeat a nefarious group hell bent on having Jem. I did miss that aspect of this series. I did enjoy the read. I found it fast paced, and gives more insight into Jem and her family dynamic. Looking forward to the next. I would like to thank BookSirens and the author for a free copy of this book in exchange for review.
This series is truly captivating. I referred to them as potato chip books (a term I first heard from @dylaansreading). You start reading, and by the time you finish, you've reached the end of the book.
Jem felt like such a fleshed-out and relatable character. The weight of taking care of her family is incredibly clear and her desire to run away from all of life's pressures is a relatable one. I also appreciated that her strongest personality characteristic, her loyalty, was demonstrated not only with her interactions with her sisters, but her best friend Birdie as well.
I also enjoyed how each of her younger sisters has their distinct personalities. The heightened emotions and drama of pre-teens were something that I felt Green captured well. Although it did feel a bit like JoJo and Tessa were spoiled in some of the ways they behaved (see reaction to the cake), it doesn't sound like they are in a family with dynamics that lead to entitled or spoiled behaviours. So that was a part of the story that I found a little inconsistent.
Overall, this is my favourite book in the series so far. In part, because Jem is the focus of this book. The mystery and drama area specifically things that she is participating in. This appears to be a tendency that Green is starting to lean into in the later books starting in book 3 and I really enjoy that development in the series. It not only makes the books more interesting but makes me more invested in the story.
Although I would say that I wasn't shocked by some of the twists and turns in the book, I was still along for the ride and enjoyed every minute of it. I do think that one of the things that this particular book highlighted is that the generation of women in the coven before the generation of primary focus (i.e., late twenties, early thirties witches) is full of some truly awful people who should not have become parents.
The romantic elements of the book were interesting and while I do think that Green addressed some of the concerns raised by the relationship I did feel that given all of the things going on within the plot, I would have preferred that the relationship dynamics were addressed more at the end rather than throughout.
I will say that this book did introduce a wild new set of magical creatures and there were several times throughout the course of the book that I was like "What is going on?". Was it confusing? Sure, but I was entertained.
Also, the thing I hated the most about this book actually occurred in the last chapter and epilogue of the book with Andie. I'm sorry but this was the most shocking thing about the book and I have no idea how to feel about it.
This is a great way to escape for an afternoon or on the beach. It's got family drama, crime, magic, and the possibility of aliens...Highly recommend.
WITCH IN A TEMPEST, #5 - Oh boy, aliens are not of interest to me and what word is used interchangeably for fairy, yep, alien. But Ms. Green wrote a well written, interesting story with some interesting characters and tidbits that overcame my dislike for aliens and had me immersed in this story. Source: BookSirens. 4*
THE WITCH CLUB, #1 - This is my first, but not last, book by this author. I was pleasantly surprised by how interesting and intriguing this story was and the well done characters and story lines. I reluctantly put this book down several times for important reasons but rushed to start reading again as quickly as possible. Source: Booksprout. 4*
HERB WITCH FOR HIRE, #2 - As the story continues, it becomes more and more intriguing and immersing. Interesting story lines mixed with well developed characters made for another interesting read. This is another example of how difficult it is to keep a review from becoming a book report. Source: Booksprout. 5*
COOKING UP A WITCH, #3 - This is a little on the spooky side but an intense and interesting story. A good pace, well written with a good variety of characters make this another hard to put down read. The characters are steady growing and learning, and coming into their own. Source: BookSirens. 5*
A WITCH THROUGH TIME, #4 - My goodness. The intrigue, the twists, the surprises that this book contains. I hated it AND I loved it - it's my favorite so far. The story is great but what happens to my favorite character made me sad. Remember the glitches with Mary's glamour, very unexpected. Source: BookSirens. 5*
NO REST FOR THE WICKED WITCH - An interesting, well written short story. An unexpected twist performed by Tara. Source: Bookfunnel. 4*
A tempest indeed, this fast-paced story grabbed my attention and pulled me right into Jem's life. The author did a wonderful job making me feel like I was right there, part of Jem's life and worried for her and her family.
Poor Jem is conflicted at pretty much every turn. She loves her family, they need her, and she wants to help, but she understandably also craves a life of her own. These opposing desires tug at her throughout the story and she can't quite find her footing. It's a very relatable dilemma!
To make matters worse, she's very much drawn to the mysterious stranger she meets early on. But can she trust him? And how can she think of herself when her entire family is in danger? As Jem works to figure out her life and save her family she learns some surprising truths about herself and her family.
Fairies in paracozies aren't surprising, but I definitely wasn't expecting aliens! The explanation for how these aliens and their world have interacted with humans and earth throughout history is intriguing, and I enjoyed this aspect of the story as well.
This is only the second book of this series that I've read, but it's my favorite of the two. And I'm definitely going back to read the earlier books.
I received a free advance review copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
Jem has more on her plate than a job, she also takes care of her 3 little sisters, her mother who suffers incapacitating migraines. Her dad works long hours, so it all falls onto Jem. She is one of a long line of females who can control the weather. If they are not careful, their extreme emotions can create storms. Their coven keeps an eye on the girls, but only offer moral support to Jem. Her stress bubble pops and she decides to leave her home. After everyone is in bed she makes a decision to leave. Something she had been planning for many years. In flight, there is a storm she cannot control. She lands by a car on a road in the middle of no where that looks to have been in an accident. A man is yelling for help, his arm bleeding saying some one killed his wife. There is something unsettling about this man who is standing next to the car where is wife's dead body is sitting behind the wheel. Things go sideways, an ear splitting sound that causes her to fall on the ground. She looks up to see it is a tsunami wave headed right for them. When she comes to, every area around them is flooded, but Jem and the stranger are in an area that is bone dry. The twists and turns are amazing! A true page turner with a totally unexpected ending.
This dynamic book captured my attention and drew me into Jem's life. The author succeeded in creating a sense of immediacy, making me feel like I was part of Jem's world and concerned for her and her family.
Jem experiences an internal conflict that manifests in almost every situation. She loves her family, who need her, and wants to help them, but she also desires a life of her own. These conflicting desires accompany her throughout the story, and she seeks balance. It is a very familiar dilemma.
Her situation is complicated by her attraction to a mysterious stranger she meets early on. The question remains whether she can trust him and how she can focus on herself when her family is in danger. As Jem tries to resolve her life problems and save her family, she uncovers surprising truths about herself and her loved ones.
The presence of fairies in paracozies was not surprising, but the presence of aliens was unexpected. The explanation of how these aliens and their world have interacted with humans and Earth throughout history was interesting, and this aspect of the story entertained me.

Witch in a Tempest is book five in the Scottish Witches Mystery series. As with the previous four books, this paranormal cozy is a bit darker than most cozies. This isn’t a whimsical cozy mystery, and it’s not lighthearted. I love the darker side to the series.
Longing to break free from her family, Jemima knows it’s just a pipe dream. Her packed, escape suitcase sits under her bed. Instead of collecting travel experiences, the suitcase is collecting dust. Jem’s discontentment lands her in a whirlwind of trouble including a potential murder and the exposure of long-hidden secrets. Trouble that results in the kidnapping of her siblings. Trouble that leads Jem to clues that expose unbelievable and life-threatening events. Jem is a wonderful character, well-written, strong, and likeable.
I enjoyed the author’s writing style and storytelling. The character development and worldbuilding were great. Witch in a Tempest is full of twists, turns, and unexpected events and happenings.
Jemima, a young weather witch is running away from home. While flying through a storm on her stave, she drops her suitcase. As she's looking for it, she spots a car blocking the road. Flying down to see if anyone needs help, she finds an injured man standing in the road, his wife in the car having been shot. Suddenly, the storm- a tempest- blows over the scene. Jemima passes out and finds herself in the middle of a crime scene- a robbery and a murder. While investigating the murder, and the strange weather event, Jem finds herself surrounded by mysteries. And her family holds the biggest secrets of all. This is one of the most fascinating paranormal cozies I've read so far. The author seamlessly blends several mysteries together to come to a surprise ending. I loved the premise and the characters! I received this book as an Advanced Reader Copy and am pleased to leave this voluntary review!
Another enjoyable read from Felicity Green. This time, the focus is on Jem, a weather witch, and her dysfunctional family. Jem dreams of being independent and it is during an attempt to breakaway that a sudden flood devastates the area and starts a series of events which will change her life. From this point, there is a death, a love interest and two mysterious groups, one of which has very close links with Jem’s family and Jem’s family is endangered. The plot is well constructed and the characters evolve nicely as the story progresses. I was, also, happy to reacquaint myself with characters from earlier books. My only reservation was the inclusion of the Magonians, who were depicted more like aliens than magical creatures. However, we learn their true origins at the end of the book, and my belief was reignited. I’m, now, looking forward to the next book.
This is the 5th book in A Scottish Witches Mystery. It's definitely different than what I was expecting. It is a stand-alone or read as part of a series. It's a cozy fantasy that meets science fiction teen novels.
The story is very slow burn with little to no action occurring until past the halfway point. The FMC is raising her three younger sisters. The Coven is not the main focus point in this story. Before the mystery starts to unfold, some deep dive into the family dynamics are told. Is Jem part of the alien world? Can Jem learn to harness her new skill set. Read to find out more about the weather sisters and the aliens.
This was the first book I read from this author. The very beginning for me was really long. It did not grab my attention until Chapter 14. I rounded the 3.5 rating to a 4 rating.

Witch in a Tempest by Felicity Green is a magical and exciting story about family, responsibility, and self-discovery. Jemima Rivers, the main character, is a weather witch juggling her family’s chaos while uncovering mysteries in her small Scottish village.
The book is filled with humor, suspense, and heartfelt moments. The beautiful setting of the Scottish Highlands brings the story to life, blending everyday struggles with magical adventures. Jem’s journey feels real as she tries to balance her duties and dreams.
The characters are relatable and memorable, especially Jem’s quirky family and her coven friends. The mix of family drama, magic, and mystery keeps the story fun and engaging.
If you enjoy fantasy with strong characters and a touch of folklore, Witch in a Tempest is a delightful read!

In book 5, the heroine this time is Jem, a weather witch, who has taken on the parental duties in her family, looking after her 3 young sisters, despite both parents to still living in the same house and doing this when she should be making a life for herself.
I liked Jem, a really caring character, who needs to put herself first more often, and feels guilty for wishing she could just up and fly away. We again meet some of the coven witches from previous books, as well as Kenna and Dessie. This is a different style of witchy magic, part alien and sci-fi, with an unfinished feeling to it. An interesting read, not really sure if I enjoyed it or not but definitely worth a go.

Thank you to BookSirens for the ARC. I still like this series, though I would love to see a slight deviation from formula at some point. Seeing more of Jem's siblings, and the childhood experiences in Tarbet, was a cool perspective.
A personal niggle - the author has clearly written each book in such a way that it could be standalone, and reading the previous ones is not necessary. I wish this could be in a prologue rather than in the body of the story each time, or even as a dramatis personae-style intro: the explanations of how people became relevant in the previous books are a little bit tedious as someone who has read the whole series. It gets a bit tell-not-show when you get reminded who Declan is, for example, in each book.
I have really come to look forward to a book in this series, so I was excited to read this one. This one centers on Jem and her family. This book is a little bit less happy than the previous ones, but it was still a great book. Poor Jem goes through so much in this book, as does her family, and I felt so much for her. I’m now wondering where we are going to go from here. I’m hoping this book has a second one just from how the events shook out. This is an intriguing installment for the series, and I quite enjoyed myself. Recommend. I was provided a complimentary copy which I voluntarily reviewed.
Weather witch Jemima Rivers would love to leave home to be on her own, but her family needs her and her income. One dark night, Jemima jumps out her bedroom window and runs away. Fleeing home is thrilling even when her guilt almost turns her back home until she sees a car stopped in the middle of the road with a woman who has been shot along with an injured man and a storm heading her way that she cannot control. This terrific book is filled with magic, a mysterious cult and a search for Jemina’s kidnapped siblings. This is my honest, voluntary review of an advanced reader copy of this book.
Another exciting addition to the Scottish Witches Mystery Series!
In this, the fifth book of the series, our main character just happens to be Jemima Rivers, one of the Rivers’ weather witches. This story went in a direction I was not expecting. That doesn’t mean it wasn’t interesting though. These stories are all very well written, well researched and highly entertaining reads. Each member of the coven is very different and has had to deal with very different circumstances in their lives. I found myself empathizing very much with Jem. Plus—bonus—we also get to catch up with the other coven members in this story as well. I highly recommend this series!
A paranormal witchy cozy mystery with a bit of a science fiction twist for the heroine of this story. As usual the vibrant, colorful charismatic and quirky characters in a small Scotts town will keep you enchanted with family and friend drama, but of course this is a mystery so there's a schemer hidden somewhere causing trouble for the witches with a plot that keeps you on your toes with twists and unimaginable obstacles, unexpected visitors and more secrets to unravel. You know all in a days witchy life or not you can decide. Acquire " Witch in a Tempest " the fifth mystery in the Scottish Witches Mysteries for hours of magicaly intriguing and enjoyable entertainment .Kat
This book kind of threw me. I really like the rest of the series but for some reason, this one didn't hit the same note with me. It just kind of felt like the main person was jumping from one feeling/issue/person to another within minutes and seemed very wishy-washy and then turned around and was forceful. I don't want to post any spoilers, so it's hard to give examples without telling the story. I just didn't get a good handle on the main character and it kind of steamrolled throughout the book.

"Witch in A Tempest" by Felicity Green is an engaging read with an intriguing premise. The novel blends elements of fantasy and romance effectively, and the world-building is quite imaginative. However, the pacing can be uneven, and some character developments feel rushed. While the story has its captivating moments, it occasionally lacks the depth needed to fully immerse the reader. Overall, it's an entertaining book with potential but could benefit from a bit more refinement.

A new threat comes to Tarbet and this time it’s focus is on the weather witch Rivers family. Jem already has her hands full raising her three younger sisters when she suddenly finds herself in the middle of the storm fighting off a cult determined to sacrifice one of her family to regain their powers. I love how each book in this series is completely unique yet manages to incorporate characters from the previous books to really build a sense of community and continuation to this world.
This wonderful series has focused on a different member of the coven in each book, making each book seem fresh while still being connected to the previous stories.
This book is about a family of weather witches, young Jemina in particular, who longs for a life of her own but feels responsible for her family. Secrets from the past come into play.
I loved this book. I think this may be my favorite MC yet, although I’ve liked them all. As always, these are well written mysteries, and this one takes it in a direction I haven’t seen in a cozy before. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was so fun Jem has the responsibility of looking after her sisters and working as a Wild Life Ranger. Her Father works long hours and her Mother is ill and always sleeping. The strain of taking care of the family has her running away and since she is a weather Witch she can control the air currents and fly on a stave. She spots an accident and lands to help when a she sees a wave heading her way. This was so exciting and had a lot of twists and turns. Fairies or Aliens have abducted her Mother in the past and she has never been the same. I recommend this book and love the series.
Witch in a Tempest is book #5 in the Scottish Witches Mysteries series by Felicity Green.
Another great addition to the series. Each book focuses on a new main character but characters from other books are included as well. What o like is that each book has its own twist so it isn’t the same story with a new MC. This is Jemima Rivers’ story. She is a weather witch. There are so many elements in this and they are all intertwined so well. This is an addictive series!
I received a free copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving my honest review.
Jem River's family has secrets, and they're about to all come out. I think it says a lot about Jem's character that she's willing to sacrifice herself for her family. But sacrifice is nothing new to Jem, as she gave up college to help take care of her family. A lot of twists in this entertaining action filled story. Jem starts a new life starring Jem , finally. I voluntarily read a free copy of this book provided by book sirens and am giving an honest opinion.
Another amazing addition to the series. Jem's story had me hooked from the first page and I couldn't put it down until I finished it. So it took me a couple of hours to get through it. The suspense and twist and turns had me on the edge of my seat. I can't wait to read the next book in the series and definitely recommend reading this book.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This is Jem's story, a weather witch, who is trying to keep her family safe fighting the Magonians and the Tempestarii. Oh wow, this is another great read. It fits in with the rest of te books. I like the characters, they have such a strong bond. I love Felicity Green's series so much that I can only recommend it. I received an advance review copy for free and I'm leaving a voluntary and honest review.
I found this book, like the rest of the series, to be quite predictable, and unsuspenseful. It wasn't very memorable either, tbh. I was unimpressed. Glad I'm done with this series. Even if there are more books, I won't be reading them. It was very hard to keep focused on what I was reading. It just couldn't keep my attention.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
I love Felicity's books and as with the others, this one was also well written, easy to read and gripping.
I truly felt for Jem but I wished she had some boundaries, though she did grow up by the end of the book. I was not fond of her sisters, but I really really really didn't like the mother.
The mystery in the book did seem a little weaker than the rest of the series, but overall still a great read.
I received an advance copy of the book and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
