A brother imprisoned in the Unseelie Court.
A fae bargain tighter than overworked bread dough.
An entire town bespelled.

Too bad I've been cursed to forget all about it.

Most of the time.

With the deadline of the winter solstice rapidly approaching, I have more to worry about than a spotty memory. Grandmother has put a lock on my magic, the very power I need to summon and anchor the portal to Elfame.

Good thing a fae king and his court are so willing to help me unlock it.

Ossian's Court of Beasts is a wonder unlike any I've ever talking animals, blue fire, dozens of secret nooks and crannies within the castle, and one mysterious black door I'm never supposed to open. But it can be as dangerous as its namesake the Brotherhood with their strange tattoos, monsters in the woods terrorizing Redbud's citizens, our greatest enemy the Bear Prince chained to the wall in the great hall.

As the curse around my magic gradually lifts under Ossian's tutelage, something more terrifying than the grizzly bear makes itself known. I'm not a guest, but a prisoner. We all are. And the only way to free us is for me to become everything Violet destined me to be.

Yeah... definitely no time for afternoon tea.
if you like edgy cottagecore, cozy vibes, slow-burn forbidden romance, sassy sidekicks, demonic baddies, found family, women who become all they can be, and a fae king.

Kept me enthralled

I was kept enthralled, utterly enchanted. Now, I have to wait for the end of the year to read on about these characters.

What a read!
This series just keeps getting better with each book.

So I officially LOATHE Ossian. No surprise there but gosh dang it I honestly did not enjoy any chapter he was a part of in a good way. The way his actions were described worked great for the story but UGH I do not like him whatsoever (thankfully this is I am sure also the point!).

Meadow’s confusion hopelessness determination love power strength was all there and then for everything to come together..??!! Eek!

Severe lack of kickass Hawthornes in this book, please bring back Badger and Otter soon, k?

The next book in this series needs to be ready ASAP, I need more Meadow and Arthur in my life!

I received an ARC of this book (thanks!) and these are my own opinions.

Fav quote:
“This voice was as deep as a mountain’s roots, steady as a river’s course, as warm as freshly baked bread.” Insert teary eyed smiling heart breaking emoji.

Oh Wow!

Wow, wow, wow!

A Beastly Court snatched me in its grip, from the first paragraph, to the very last sentence!

It turned me inside out, and upside down, as I went along with Misty's journey of self-discovery.

As usual, it made me laugh, and made me cry, and I ended up a sopping mess of emotions by the time I reached the end - and what an ending that was! Lol

Misty stumbled blindly through the life she assumed she knew so well, believing all she was told, and even though that didn't fill up the hollowness - a hole where her heart should be - she was determined to do what was right.

But, every time doubt rose in her mind, the Fae King of Beasts, Ossian, gets close to her, and a golden fog, that he told her was their mating bond, would rise and smother it all.

I was totally captivated by this story.

To be honest with you, every single book in this series, so far, has captivated me, but this, book seven, doubled down on that, and I could barely put it down to do what was needed for everyday life.

The way that Ossian behaved with Misty, had me on the edge of my seat most of the time, and the scene with them in the big hall, had me feeling sick to my stomach, on one hand, knowing what was really happening with her, and what the bear - that she was so terrified of - really meant to her but, on the other hand, feeling every sympathy for her confusion.

I'm really loving how her relationship with Sawyer is going, and I'm in awe of the way in which her magic works now, especially when Sawyer finally gets over his fear of bonding.

But, most of all, I'm in awe of Kat Healy, the Author of this series!

Every single time I read the next book of this series, she has surprises in store!

Even though she's writing in a way that encloses all of the customary traditions of fairy tales, she's used her own imagination to add twists and turns that I could never have imagined for myself, and it's wonderful discovering each of them as they appear!

Well, it's Silly O'Clock in the morning now, so I'm going to finish this review, and get some much-needed sleep.

Then, tomorrow - or should that be 'later today' Lol? - I'm going to start reading G Clatworthy's Saffron Vale, Book One: 'A Colour to Dye For', which is part of the new Cozy Vales books.

Once I've read it, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think of it!

* * * * * * * * * *

It's Friday 14th February, 2025, and I've, sadly, just finished book seven, of this awesome series!

Sadly, because there's only one more book to read, until Book Eight is published, on 28th March - which is another 42 days to wait!

So I'll be going on from this book, to the standalone book, 'A Wolf For Winter', telling the story of Meadow's Cousin, Lilac, and the Wolf shifter, Allen Chase.

I think I'll probably end up re-re-reading this series, just before Book Eight: 'A Filigree Key', is published! Lol

But, once I've finished this standalone, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what Iii think of it, especially as it follows the same timeline as A Beastly. Court!

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - -

Well, it's Friday, 25th April, still in 2025, & I did as I said I would, previously, & have read, for the 3rd time, Book 7: 'A Beastly Court' - because, no surprises here: Book 8: 'A Filigree Key' was published on 28th March, & I had to finish another series I was reading, before starting this one again.

I have to admit, that this book makes me feel really uncomfortable - because I know the truth of Meadow's life, & this story runs so counter to it, of course!

But it certainly makes up for it, in that final scene! Lol

But, I'm off right away to make a start on 'A Filigree Key', before my eyes get too tired to continue reading it!

So, I'll catch you on the flip side, to let you know what I think about my second, and far more thorough, read of it!

continuing the series but not my favorite book

Book 7 in this series. I really enjoyed 1-5, struggled a bit more with 6 and even more with this one.

The characters we love are all trapped in an amnesic fae-induced nightmare.
Don’t start the series with this book or you’ll be so confused!!

Meadow has been taken by the Stag Man and now believes herself to be his fated mate, cursed by her grandmother, and striving to please the man who has literally stolen her heart, but whose touch makes her uncomfortable.

I do understand why the author wrote this the way she did but I felt on edge the whole way through waiting for it to tip too far over into darkness (came closest with the TW: near rape scene) and the book didn’t even end with a solution so the darkness and unpleasant fae continues into the next book.
I will read on because I want Misty to save herself and Arthur but I hope it gets better fast.

I do understand that my dislike of the book does come from the author writing a really bad bad guy and it coming across - I just didn’t like that it took such a dark turn.

This book had a lot going on. Many plot twists and some vicious torture of her allies and friends. As she grows in her power the Stag Man increases his control and power.

Misty is on a quest to save her brother- the agreement, she’s trying to open the portal by winter solstice.

Fae king, Ossian, with his court of Beasts, just not cats, welcomes Misty/Meadow with open arms. What his end game???
Will she succeed in opening the portal?

Things aren’t what they appear in this beastly court… friends are closer than you think just in slightly different forms!

I loved that the characters, who I’ve grown to enjoy over the 7 books were still in there! 🦡 🐴 My heart broke for poor Arthur! And I’m still rooting for him 🐻 And not a huge fan of Ossian but he’s still part of my favorite quote -“Beware the Stag Man who hunts in the forest deep. His arrows never miss a maiden’s heart to keep.”

I have absolutely enjoyed this series from the beginning. This wasn’t my favorite book of them but I know it’s leading us into the next book and I will 100% be there to read it!!!

Thank you to the author, Kat Healy, and Booksprout for the opportunity to read this epub. I am leaving this review voluntarily.

The struggle of Meadow Hawthorne to save her brother from a demon, save her lover, save her sanity from her really pushy family, and now deal with a very powerful fae who wants her magic continues.

The story is sharp and the action good. But... I did not enjoy this book as much as the earlier ones because Meadow's memory has been erased (multiple times, whenever she figures something out) and rewritten by her fae adversary. Because of this, in all of this book she is working hard to accomplish things that may not be in her best interest. Since the books are written from Meadow's point of view and her drive pushes the narrative forward, having an entire book where she really does not know what she is doing (and does not know that she does not know) got sort of painful. Sure, it served the plot well, but it led to a bit of a lack (at least for me).

At least for the next book we will have Meadow back in charge of herself. And, yeah, there are some tantalizing hints of her new powers. That should be fun.

This entire series is beautifully written! Easy to visualize the characters and the scenery! I want the “I’m not a familiar” familiar cat! He is so adorable! There are shifters and Other magical beings that I love! I want a birdhouse now set up with cotton balls and fur for fairies to live in all year! I’ve named the little white spider in our kitchen Mrs. White because of the one in these books! Mine has all 8 of her legs though! The spells are really wonderful! I craved apple butter and cinnamon rolls while reading these books! Pages flew by and I thought about these people long after I put my device on its charger! I will read everything this author writes! 5 stars! Each book can be read as a stand alone but you’ll want more at The End!

Trigger warnings needed

First, I have greatly enjoyed this series and intend to read the last book when it comes out. Having said that, after six books of clean reading I was totally unprepared for the amount of coercive emotional and sexual manipulation that takes place here, especially the scene in the great hall in front of the bear. Obviously, the author is aware of how tough this circumstance can be as she has Meadow retching afterwards and needing to bathe because of how dirty she feels. Some of us need to know this is coming in order to prepare to deal with remembered trauma.

Holy cow, what a ride

I would just like to start this review by saying that I despise, loathe, and abhor Ossian and I hope he kicks all the rocks and pounds all the sand. All this aside, this part of the saga has been so much more visceral and emotionally challenging than all the rest. Strong elements of partner abuse, narcissism, and gaslighting abound, so if this is a trigger for you, be careful. But this story, while an emotionally challenging read, has been action filled and engaging from start to finish. I can’t wait for the next one in March.

this was everything that I enjoyed from Kat Healy's writing in the previous six books in the Homesteader Hearth Witch series. The characters had that element that I enjoyed from the first six books in this series. The writing worked overall and was engaged with everything that I wanted. It had that romance element that I was looking for and was glad I read this.

Obviously not my favorite of the series based on Meadow's current circumstances. But I enjoyed this book. The constant battle with Meadow's tainted memories and intuition kept me invested. I was happy to see Sawyer show up and start fulfilling that familiar role. Helping Meadow down the right path without telling her flat out so she still had the capacity to grow and learn on her own. Poor Arthur, I can't wait for the next book. Kat Healy really knows how to keep you hanging off those cliffs. 😅

Worst in the series

This is the absolute worst book in the series. I love this series it's my favorite and have loved all the books but this one, dear God it took me 3 months to read 300 pages. It was that horrible. I skipped so many pages and wanted to throw my kindle across the room every other page. I am looking forward to the next one to make up for this one.
The series is great but this book is worst.

okay, so this one was so hard emotionally (but actually easy to read, I wanted to know what happened next the whole time) I freaking hate Ossian and all his red flag behavior! sure lets just erase her memory any time she starts behaving like an independent person. also yeah lets just try and do it in front of the bear because he's my prisoner, but also he's actually your mate and I stole that and kept it in my creepy necklace.

anyway, love the series, can't wait for the next one

A Beastly Court is book 7 of the Homesteader Hearth Witch series by Kat Healy and is a great continuation! This fantasy thriller has more twists and turns than a mountain road and has fabulous characters. I can't wait to see where Kat takes us next.

I’ve loved this series and was so excited to be able to read another book. A Beastly Court is definitely different from the rest in the series. This was the first book that made me anxious, frustrated, and angry. I felt like I was yelling at Meadow the entire time 😂 Kat does a great job and making you connect with the characters and feeling strong emotions.

I was really enjoying this series until this book.

There was so much character groeth and this entire book is throwing her back into being a child. The supporting characters are not the same and honestly I just couldn't read it. I have no desire to read the rest of the series. Its too much none needed drama.

took a turn

Wasn’t as good as the other books. I think the fact that her friends were changed into animals just threw me off of it. I could get behind the fact that her memories were erased and that she was forced into a mate bond with the stag man but it just felt like a bit much for me. Looking forward to the rest in the series tho!

Sassy and bad ass-y, this series just keeps getting better with each book. This fantasy physiological thriller will have you on the edge of your seat from start to finish. I can’t wait to see how everything plays out in book eight. I'm hooked on this series.
