I have all I’ve ever dreamed of except for one thing. I have my dream job playing football in the NFL, a big dog who loves me almost as much as I love him, great friends, and a loving family. Now if I could only find the prefect partner for me. Someone who wants to cuddle with a six foot nine chubby guy, loves dogs and food as much as I do. If the last four years since I graduated college have taught me anything, it's that I'm asking too much.
Right now, though, all I’m focused on is finishing the regular season with enough wins to get to the Playoffs and getting the perfect birthday cake for my friend’s daughter’s birthday. I need the pastry chef of my favorite bakery to do a special order for me and I’m pulling out all the stops to convince them.
Theo
There are a lot of things Mike McKinnley doesn’t know. Like my full name, the fact that we live in the same city, or that I’m the pastry chef he’s texting, asking for a special order when I almost never do those. He doesn’t know that he made me believe there was still good in the world after spending years losing hope little by little. He absolutely doesn’t know that in my mind he’s the standard to which I compare all men. He doesn’t know I’m terrified of him shattering that standard if we ever speak again, because it’s only thanks to that fantasy that I still believe there are good men out there.
How can I keep avoiding him when he’s constantly texting me and being all cute and shit?
Turns out I can’t. Turns out I never stood a chance because Mike McKinnley is irresistible, Mike McKinnley is the perfect man, Mike McKinnley is definitely too good for me.
What will happen when he eventually finds out who I am?
So so so looong, and boring. Dragging repetitive and so cheesy. This should have been a short, sweet, no-angst Christmassy read instead of a too long and serious-wanna-be book. The plot is stretched thin and the characters ,though extremely interesting (2 overweight cutie-pies) were made to be boring because of the long book. A book that, past the first 40% was about nothing. It was cute at first, they were endearing and so sweet and I was so there for them. They meet again, they get together, one is hurt the other one cries, the cat’s out of the bag and I was waiting for “The end”. Well no, the author decided to drag and drag and drag for over 300 pages. The writing was choppy too so that didn’t help either.
The overall tone of the story was just so negative and down and it felt a little suffocating reading it. Even Mike's sunshine personality didn't really lighten the mood?! His exuberance starting feeling like a joke rather than a genuine personality, as though he was some kind of clown or entertainment character.
The pace was also really strange, all of the big events had happened well before the end of the book, and there was just a lot of repetition. It made it hard for me to feel connected to either character compared to the other books in the series.
I did really enjoy the scenes with the wider friendship group though, and I loved the bachelor party/wedding scenes. I feel like I need to re-read Luke and Bennett's story though because I can't remember much about it now - I should have read them in order!
Theo's family situation also confused me a lot. I didn't really get their sense of humour at all and what was supposed to be funny just fell really flat for me. Mike's family were interesting but I didn't really believe the whole overprotectiveness is what made his mum spout all that shit. The explanation felt weak and honestly sometimes I do wish books portrayed more often that not every relationship in your life is going to be a good and long lasting one, even with family members. They always seem to get some kind of redemption as though it's impossible to be at odds with someone, which isn't realistic and when the explanation doesn't make much sense, it makes me respect the MC less for accepting that behaviour?
I'm intrigued about the novella for Theo's dad, Harrison, though - although I do worry it's going to have the same 'humour' so I'm a little sceptical also!
Cuteness overload in this adorable sports romance. I love a good unconventional character, Theo with his anxiety disorder and both of them with their size issues — giving them relatable issues really brings characters to life and makes readers feel seen, in my opinion.
Mike and Theo were one of those rare couples that really made me feel their love, that you just know they were meant to be.
Despite loving their story, it’s not a full five stars for me mainly because of the family drama. The ending really dragged on for way too long and the aftermath wasn’t as satisfying as I hoped it would be.
I received a copy of this book from Gay Romance Reviews, and this is my honest review.
CW and tropes(spoilers): - Football player vs pastry chef - Chubby MCs - Dog owners - MC with anxiety disorder - Mentions of past emotional abuse - Fat shaming - Vers MCs
5 stars Mike and Theo's book is the best so far, I loved it. Their story actually started in high school and their connection stayed strong during the years. I don't want to spoil the story, I'm just going to address some topics I think the author handled very well..
Theo suffers from axiety disorder: he grew up in a toxic environment and the abuse he suffered left very deep scars that prevented him from having a normal social life. At first, Theo's reluctance to reveal his identity to Mike was frustrating me, but then I realised how it must have been difficult to him to trust another person with his truth, the fear of being rejected was too strong. Theo really thinks that he's not worthy of love and that he's broken and hasn't anything to offer to Mike.
Mike is insecure about his body. He is a center and his role on the field is to block opponents: he's big and strong and for that, he's been bullied online. I loved how Mike was able to block those negative comments and focus on his own wellbeing. In addition to that, Mike has to deal with his parents biphobia: they don't aknowledge Mike's bisexuality and his mother is pretty awful to him. But Mike doesn't let her ruin his relationship with Theo and he's very straightforward and honest about his disappointment towards his parents.
Mike knows his worth and he's not going to settle for less than he deserves. He's my favourite of the gang, he's a brave man and the way he cherishes his Teddy is so sweet and beautiful. The sex scenes between them are tender and reflect all the love they feel for each other. The epilogue is just perfect!
Now I cannot wait for Harrison's (Theo's dad) novella and the next book of the series, Derek's story. Absolutely recommended.
I received an ARC from the author and this is my honest review.
Mike and Theo’s story is super sweet, but nothing spectacular.
While I thought it was very cute that these two secretly crushed hard on each other in high school and eventually reconnected years later, I wanted more out of their relationship. It felt like they went from 0 to 100% without really getting to know one another, and felt like it needed a bit more fleshing out.
What to expect: - football player + pastry chef - secret high school crush - sports, obvi - second chance (sorta) - size difference - found family - hurt x comfort, ish - mutual pining
CW: MMC with anxiety, anxiety/panic attacks, mentions of child abuse, homophobia and homophobic language, blood, sports related injury, mentions of surgical procedures
You Started It by Hinsel Myers is the third book in her Fan Service series. Mike McKinley is the center for the New York Kings NFL team. He is a big (6’ 9”) cuddly teddy bear who is kind and caring yet a huge asset to his team. He loves football and food but is looking for that someone who will complete him. Theo Crawford is a baker and owns Most Precious bakery in Soho, New York City. He had an awful upbringing living with his mother after his parents divorced and that was not a good thing, even though he didn’t tell his father about what was happening. He did see him every two weeks and was the light of what he was living through. Because of this he developed a severe case of anxiety. Mike and Theo met in high school in Bar Harbor, Maine, when Mike saved Theo from bullies. He was attracted to him but Theo moved away in the middle of their senior year and he figured he would never see him again. That is until he started going to Most Precious because he loved their treats. Then he needed a special birthday cake and wanted the baker there to make it, even though he had never seen him, because he never came out of the back of the store. He managed to get his telephone number and texted him about the cake and after a while Theo agreed to make it. They continued texting and had an unexpected meeting outside of the shop. All this time Theo had a crush on Mike but he had also gone through a bad relationship that tainted his feelings that there were any good men out there, and he was really scared that Mike wouldn’t be one of them. Mike was delighted when he saw Theo, who he had named Teddy in his fantasies, and wanted to start seeing him. Their relationship slowly develops as the story continues with Teddy being sure something would happen to change Mike’s mind about him and Mike realizing that Teddy just may be the one for him and doesn’t give up on him. They learn things about each other, especially about Teddy’s anxiety and how Mike can help him with it. Then Mike gets a bad injury during a game and Teddy realizes just how much he loves him. He stays to help him get better and their relationship grows into love for both of them. I really enjoyed this story. Mike is such a good, solid guy and once he decides Teddy is the one for him, he never gives up on him. You also feel his love for playing football and what he does on the field that helps his team. Teddy’s anxiety is so real and what he is going through is very hard and you find yourself cheering for every milestone he makes in overcoming it. When they finally get together their love scenes are hot. There are also some family surprises such as who Teddy’s father is as well as angst over what both of their mothers say and do about them being together. Their friends and other family are often snarky yet firmly behind them and really add to the story. I highly recommend this book and would give it more than 5 stars if I could. I am looking forward to reading more stories from Ms. Meyer and will definitely be reading more books in this series.
Mike and Theo met in high school when Mike stepped in to save Theo from bullies. Since then, Mike has been ideal of the perfect man in Theo’s eyes, although they never interacted again. Mike was drawn to Theo, but never caught up with him after that encounter, but he hasn’t forgotten the intriguing young man over the years.
It is now nine years later. Mike is now a professional football player on a NYC team, and an avid patron of Theo’s bakery, even though Mike had no idea Theo is the owner. When the two literally bump into each other outside the bakery, Mike instantly recognizes Theo (who he has thought of as Teddy all these years), and the attraction and pull is instantaneous. As the two tentatively work toward getting to know each other and becoming more, a major stumbling block for Theo is his anxiety disorder, something he has had since a child, tied to his youth. Theo doesn’t see himself as worthy of Mike’s attention, often spiraling as he tries to navigate his need and longing for this man while being unable to see why Mike would want him. Mike’s biggest challenge is to get Theo to believe Mike wants him, now and forever. There are many potential blocks to the relationship including family complications, but Mike is persistent and Theo desperately wants to believe in them as a couple.
The author has done a beautiful job drawing the reader into the workings of Theo’s mind as he deals with his anxiety and the childhood memories that seem never far away, especially when they reappear in Theo’s mind when things are going well, drawing him down again. The author mentions in a note at the beginning that she suffers from anxiety, and her portrayal educates the reader on the thoughts and feelings, and how they can spiral for one who suffers from it.
A beautiful story of two men who were destined to be there for each other, one a big bear of a man who is tender, understanding, loving, sweet and kind, and another man who needs someone to turn to when the anxiety becomes too much, to cuddle and pull him out of his thoughts, to love him and show him his worth. Loving friends and families (with a couple glaring exceptions), two huge lovable dogs, lots of delicious treats, plenty of football talk, and a HEA. What more could one ask for. Loved the book.
I received a free copy of this book and this is my voluntary review.
Mike was in the NFL and was happy. He had his best friend Tony, a huge dog that adored him, a great house near the stadium where he worked, fantastic friends, and access to the best bakery ever.
Theo found himself finally getting his feet under him. The damage done by Mary, his mother, was long-standing and would never go away. He managed to stay out of the spotlight, shining brightly on his wealthy family, and he was happy to run his bakery and show love for his dog. Nobody needs to know about the crush he’s had since high school.
The two of them coming together was supposed to be impossible… Until it wasn’t.
OPINION: I’ve been working through the first four books of this series (five and six already read). Each book is wonderful in its own way, but this one I loved so much. These two men are fantastic, and their story is so good. Like all the books in the series, there is a wonderful family with friends and parents embracing each other. The story of each man is deep, and you can feel the wounds that Theo carries. Even though the book is about Mike and Theo, you get to know more about everyone and share the love they all have for each other. Mike is such a wonderful cinnamon roll of a man that you can’t help but want to be cuddled by him, and the way he cares for his Teddy tickled me to the core. I didn’t cry through this one like I had on the others, but I was completely charmed by the story and couldn’t put it down. Discussion about having security and the struggles of being stupid rich could have been gross but are handled wonderfully. Like all the others in this series, I enjoyed it very much and can spend many more hours with the men in this series. Read this one, too!! For sure, it’s a favorite of the group.
I’m new to Hinsel Meyer’s work and I’m looking forward to reading more. I thought that it was a good addition to the Fan Service Series. I thought it was cool how Hinsel included a Playlist at the start of this book. I downloaded the songs to my new Hinsel Meyer Playlist and listened to it while reading Mike and Theo’s story.
Yes, I listen to music while I read from my Kindle as for some weird reason it makes me concentrate a lot more on the words in the book. I enjoyed this book and it’s definitely my favourite of the series so far. I really liked the Cheat Sheet so I could try and keep track a bit more easily of who’s who since there’s a lot of characters mentioned during this series so far.
I thought Mike & Theo were so f*cken adorable. They first met when they were in high school when Mike saved Theo from some a*sehole bullies, and that one interaction stuck with them both since then. It’s heartbreaking the reason why Theo suffers from anxiety and I can understand he doesn’t want to tell his dad the reason why.
I had tears in my eyes when Mike was injured. I know that he’d be alright but it was still sad. I really enjoyed all the secondary characters and I’m looking forward to reading some of their stories as the series continues. It’s Harrison’s novella, This Is On You up next. I’d recommend this book, series and author to others.
This series keeps getting better. Teddy and Mike are the sweetest and their second chance at romance was laid out fantastically by the author If you’re looking for a steamy, low angst, football romance with all the feels and swoon this book is the one for you. I also loved the anxiety rep in the book and the way it was handled. Even though Mike had no prior experience he was just an all round nice guy quite content in himself and both of them were able to navigate their challenges with reconnecting, falling in love and building a relationship with fairly low drama. I’ve come to expect that this author in their signature matter of fact style addresses a host of heavy and sensitive topics with a light hand and their stories are always multifaceted- this books deals with mental health rep, bodies not fitting the normal beautify standards, parental abuse, childhood trauma, over protectiveness leading to homophobic exclusion… all dealt with sensitivity without glossing over it but also with some idealism and hope which I genuinely loved. I did find though that a inordinate amount of the book was focused on Adam and Sebas’s wedding and I will say that by now there are so many characters now intermingled sometimes it’s a teeny bit hard to keep track. But I absolutely loved Theo’s dad and the dogs and the found family aspects throughout!
This is a childhood crush / second chance to more sports romance, featuring Mike and Theo, and is the third book in the Fan Service Series.
Mike and Theo meet in high school when Mike stops some bullies picking on Theo. It’s was Insta-love for both of them but before Mike could actually make a move, Theo graduated from school early and left town. It is years later that they reconnect and their crushes are still as strong as ever.
Since starting this series, I have had a bit of a crush on Mike, so I was super excited to read his book and omg it did not disappoint. These two men have a bit of my heart now. I love them and if they were real, I would want one of those cuddles from Mike.
This books is sweet, full of love of my life vibes, and two men supporting each other to be stronger and being there for each other.
We get cameos from all the characters from this series and cameos from other books. Yay!
I am loving this series. I was really hoping Theo’s dad would get his own book and it’s an early Xmas to me because he has one, I’m reading that next.
Things to expect in this MM romance are: 3rd book in series MM Sports Romance Footballer x Baker Childhood crush Second chance Size difference Hurt / Comfort Dog lovers Anxiety rep Insta-love Calls him baby Both fall hard All in Cameos from other books HEA
Every book in this series has gotten better, and I'm really glad I stuck with it. I am still loving all these characters, and Mike is such a big softie. I originally wasn't sure how I felt about the time jumps written in the beginning of the book, but they gave us a lot of context that we really need for the story. The writing felt smooth and complete, and it wasn't rushed.
I'm still getting confused with the huge cast of characters, and more keep getting added. I do love that the original core group of friends are still so close, and it was great catching up with them. Adam and Sebas especially feature quite a bit in this book. Everyone was a little more grown up in this book and it was nice to see that their careers and distance didn't destroy their close friendships
This was a sweet, low angst book. There is some family drama, but it gets resolved. Mike's medical emergency and Theo's anxiety were discussed and handled well. The writing has improved a lot from the first book, but we are still getting the unique sports perspective and wonderful characters that made me want to continue with the series. I am looking forward to Derek's book next year!
I received an ARC of this book from the author and this is my honest review
✨ "You Started It" by Hinsel Meyer ✨ Series: Fan Service, Book 3
✨ Overall: 🌟🌟🌟
✨ The lack of stars has nothing to do with the author or this book, it is strictly my own rating on my experience reading YSI.
✨ What a book! I went into "You Started It" thinking it would be a fun little romance about a football player and his team owner's son. But there was so much depth and heavy topics and important deep discussions and it blew my mind.
✨ It hurts my heart when I see parents being awful to their kids. As a parent, it is your job to lift your kids up and hope that you do a better job than your parents did. Even though we really only see his later parenting years, Harry is the type of parent I want to be. He loves and accepts his kids, and defends them with everything he has.
✨ Teddy and Mike were so sweet. I loved the high school meeting, and then jumping 9 years into the future. Dealing with Mike's job, Teddy's anxiety, and a new relationship are all hard on their own, but throw in all the other challenges these two face in their first year, and they're perfect together.
✨ Pick up if you love: oversized lap dogs, football, baked goods as a love language, missed connection reconnecting, and goofball friends from previous books making appearances
ARC kindly received from the author and Gay Romance Reviews (GRR) in exchange for my honest and unbiased review.
I hadn't read Sebas and Adam's or Glenn & George's stories, and I faltered just a little at parts as to who was who, and at times I wasn't sure if we were back in the past or in the present, but for the most part I kept up with it as the story went on.
Well, this was like a hug in a book and such a feel-good read. It had that magical ingredient where it just makes you smile. I quickly fell for Mike and Theo (and don't get me started on Tony and Oscar!). I always hesitate when an anxiety disorder is featured in a story as to whether it's portrayed correctly and sensitively (and yes, I know each individuals experience of it can be very different, I'm coming from the point where there could be instances of where things blatantly wouldn't be true, such as 'getting over it' quickly etc.) and I felt here it was shown very well. There's a lot going on in this story, and it requires your full concentration, and you're rewarded with a beautiful queer romance where you get to meet a fantastic supporting cast. A lovely, enjoyable read.
I am not much of a football fan but this author piqued my interest and now I am hooked on this series!
“I just said, you started it, baby. It’s what we do. You took care of me all those years ago, and then I took care of you by making you a cake.”
Cuteness overload is all I can say regarding these two beautiful characters and their unique male dogs who just gravitated towards each other like their owners…
The patience and adoration that Mike portrayed towards his school crush Theo (aka Teddy to him) was so endearing and special…
The emotional growth of Theo was incredible to see with the help, patience and guidance of his school crush Mikey his therapist and his family!
The way that Theo’s anxiety disorder was depicted in such an emotional way by the author was amazing and the way that fat shaming was portrayed and delt with was very eye opening to how cruel the media can be!
Family Homophobia and Bigotry plays a huge part in how they stand together strong in their journey to happiness, self worth, acceptance and love!
I look forward to the next story in the series!
I voluntarily received an ARC from GRR for an honest non biased review.
When Mike stands up for Theo when they are kids something in them shifts, but they don’t get to explore what could happen, what they feel for each other. But when Mike unknowingly finds his way back into Theo’s life years later, they get another shot. From talking through messages to finally realizing who was on the other end, they find themselves, while overcoming obstacles and secrets, falling hard and fast.
I love a book that has main characters with anxiety because those stories always hit home for me. The way Hinsel has written Theo is an amazing representation of a person suffering from an anxiety disorder. It took him some time to come to terms with the love he was given, accepting that a person would want him, flaws and all. Giving him Mike, who is so inherently good, a big teddy bear who shows up for him without fail was beautiful to read. And the insecurities that Mike has and works so hard to overcome made him even more lovable.
A very nice and cute read, full of hugs, dog cuddles and yummy treats, another great addition to this series.
I received an ARC in exchange for my honest review.
In high school, Mike is a football player who’s bi, but hasn’t told anyone. Theo is a gay student who lives with his Mom, who’s cruel and hurts him, but his Dad doesn’t know. When he’s about to be beaten up, Mike intercedes, and Theo has no words, but is enamoured with Mike from then on.
He moves in with his Dad and family and buys a bakery, keeping his identity secret as his Dad is well known.
Years later, Mike is in the NFL and loves the bakery nearby, and he asks for the owner to do a special order. Theo has developed anxiety due to his life with his Mom, but he relents, and the two men feel their dreams are coming true.
They weather angry family members, Mike’s injury on the field and his recovery, and Theo’s identity being found out, putting them both is the spotlight.
I love the challenges they each face, and that they support each other no matter what. Theo’s Dad and Nan are great, and Mike’s friends are interesting, with their own stories too.
I received this ARC for free and am providing my honest review as thanks.
4.5 stars. This was such a sweet book. Mike McKinnley is a center in the NFL who is a big guy and loves food and his dog. He is living his best life and is obsessed with Most Precious bakery especially since they allow his dog in. Theo is the baker and owner of Most Precious ,and he has had a crush on Mike McKinnley since Mike saved him from some bullies his señor year of high school. However, Theo has severe anxiety caused by his mother and grandmother who he lived with after his parents divorced. Mike gets Theo's phone number to ask him to bake a special cake for a friend's daughter. They begin texting each other and finally meet. Mike recognizes Theo immediately and admits he had a crush on him. Mike wants to date but Theo fears that his anxiety will end up ruining the relationship. Theo has to learn to open up to Mike about what his anxiety entails and trust Mike when he says he isn't going anywhere. This is a great book about 2 MC's who support and love each other just the way they are.
This is a wonderful story and I am a Hinsel fan for life! Her books have such depth and heart with her diverse characters. This is Mike, the center's story, Mike with his big heart, sensitivity and love of his dog. He has adored Teddy since high school, Teddy with extreme anxiety disorder, master baker extraordinaire and secretly crushing on Mike for years. There is angst and passion, friends and good and bad family, and so much love it permeates the pages. This world of football is foreign to me but the men and women who inhabit it seem real, some broken but supportive and tolerant of each other. Hinsel writes with an amazing ability to make you feel things and presents situations that include fat shaming, cyberbullying, child abuse and anxiety disorder. I am a "Big" Mike fan all the way even if the "World's Best Cuddler" is a hard title to live up to. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.
I enjoyed the first two books in this series and I think this one is my favorite, so far. What stands out for me is how strong the two main characters are, they feel real and relatable. Theo and Mike go back to high school where they had the beginnings of connection but lose touch after graduation. I appreciated that we get to see the evolution of their relationship over time, which unraveled at an organic pace. The way they reconnect was cute and also was an effective way to demonstrate Theo’s struggles with anxiety. These two are so caring and supportive of each other and their story has real depth and emotion, this is a strong couple. I also liked the creative touches, like the song lyrics that open each chapter. Excellent characters and a wonderfully engaging writing style, I enjoyed Mike and Theo’s lovely happy ending.
I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book.
This is a truly endearing novel about two men carrying their insecurities like armor, one of whom suffers from severe anxiety attacks as a result. Yet Mike McKinnley, Center for the New York Kings, and Theodore Crawford, baker extraordinaire, still get their sweet HEA, despite Theo's -- Mike calls him Teddy -- concern that Mike won't be the same wonderful guy he'd been when they were in HS together and Mike saved him from bullies. The hurdles they must overcome, both as individuals and as a couple, add a quiet tension to the story, but thankfully, they mostly avoid the sin of lack of communication, and when they do succumb, they quickly correct it so they can be there for other in the difficult times.
I couldn't round this up, in all honesty, because there was too much repetition of information that we already had and some scenes that needed to be shortened. That, coupled with some proofing issues, helped keep it in the 3-star range.
There isn’t much needed to describe this book. It’s a very, what you see is what you get kind of story. The two MC’s have their own baggage and traumas but everything is written in a very low angst, drama free way. Especially between the two main men. The writing is simple, the story tries to be a bit more serious sometimes but with how insta-lovey everything is from the get go, there was no reason to ever worry the drama would get out of hand.
I will note however that this book is chock full of side characters who are barely explained. It gets complicated and confusing quick despite the cheat sheet the author provides at the beginning of the book to help with who is who. I went into this book not having read the two previous books and I would not recommend it.
Tropes: Cinnamon roll MC, Hurt / Comfort, (sort of) Coming of Age, Football, Found Family Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️ 3/5 Spice: 🌶️🌶️ 2/5
Most of us can remember our first crush. Theo aka Teddy so sweet and endearing and fights the demons that his mom and grandma have left him with. He’s a true fighter day by day. So many trust issues but the one man he trust was his first crush. He never thought he’d see Mike aka Bear again. It all starts with a text with Mike having no clue who was the owner of a bakery that he needed a favor from. Things start picking up from there with more and more text. Mike has a great career in the NHL but is also a softie and lives to cuddle. The one warning I can give you is watch where you’re walking on the side walk. You never know who you’ll bump into. Oh, and don’t get me started on the dogs and some of their crazy friends. They have their ups and downs but with so much support they want to give each other, how can they fail. This is a hear felt read.
I enjoyed this book from start to finish. Mike and Theo are great characters individually and they are so sweet together. Mike may be the sweetest jock character I have ever read. He is such a good friend and incredible boyfriend. He cares about everyone so much. He is so endearing. Theo is a complex character that really comes to life. He’s relatable in so many ways. He did not have a great childhood, and while that did impact him pretty harshly, he did not let it keep him from his dreams.
The story is great and I love all the (nice) characters so much. Theo’s mom was a little too over the top, and I feel like the ending was a little too long, and that’s why I gave it 4 stars instead of five. I will be reading it again, and I will def read the other books in the series.
I did receive a free ARC of this book but that did not influence my review.
There are still good guys out there. Theo met one in high school when Mike took up for him to save him from a bully. Because of that Mike became in Theo's mind what a good guy should be conceptually. Mike likes his food and he is crazy about the bakery where Theo is the baker and owner. These men are in the midst of a mutual admiration for one another in their twenties. Mike and Theo each have their issues and it is good that Mike is such a sweetie as Theo's anxiety could have gotten in the way of them slowly, at a pace that Theo could handle, get it together. This is such a human story where the men have liked one another since adolescence and in their adulthood have a chance to embrace it and make it something real. They accept and support one another for who they are. So sweet! I received an ARC from GRR and am voluntarily leaving a review.
This was such a sweet book. Mike McKinnley is a center in the NFL who is a big guy and loves food and his dog. What he wants in life is to find his special someone. Little does he know he met him while in high school. He saved Theo from bullies who were out to hurt him. Years later they reconnect through the bakery Theo owns. I loved that we get to see the evolution of their relationship over time, which unraveled at an organic pace. The way they reconnect was cute and also was an effective way to demonstrate Theo’s struggles with anxiety. Mike also suffers from some insecurities. They are so wonderful at supporting each other. These two are so caring and supportive of each other and their story has real depth and emotion. I really enjoyed this addition to the Fan Service Series.
Mike is a 6'9 golden retriever marshmallow of a man. He is just so precious, and the fact that he's an NFL player has zero baring on his life. He's adorable & doesn't let the fame go to his head. He's a very down to earth guy who just wants to meet the perfect man of his dreams.
Theo is a bundle of anxiety & is terrified to meet Mike face to face. They met briefly in high school & both had crushes on each other, not that the other knew.
I loved seeing these guys together, as well as the furbabies. They each had to overcome different issues, but both very much wanted to be there to support the other.
This was a nice, fluffy read. I can't wait for the next book in the series.
Sweetest story, EVER! Mike always dreamed of playing in the NFL and he's living his dream. Theo, struggles through his youth. His Mom complicated his life a bit. He crushed on Mike in high school, and then one day, Mike saved him from an act of bullying. He's crushed on Mike ever since. They meet again about 9 years later under coincidental circumstances. Their adventure crosses many events and lines and they have to work hard to find a balance. The author has given us two delightful characters with amazing supporting friends and family. Life dose not run smoothly, but the challenges offer opportunities for everyone to step up or excel. Fantasstic story. Great group of characters. I hope we get stories of most. Well done! I received an ARC and am voluntarily leaving a review.
So this is the third book in this series and you don’t have to read what comes before you probably should. I haven’t but I definitely will! You might be confused by all the side characters because there is a lot! But it doesn’t in anyway ruin Theo and Mike’s love story. This book jumps back in forth from The past to present a few times in the first half of the book. Their past together definitely is important in their present and future. And Theo’s past very much dictates his present and future. Mike has to be the sweetest man around like a big teddy bear full of live and sweetness. He makes this book so beautiful. I truly loved every second of this book and I’m super excited for future books in this series!
