Leigh Ann Eden had a great life in New York as a partner in a public relations business she'd helped to build - and lost it all when her father was charged with financial crimes. She wasn't involved in his business or the fraud, but her very public role as the face of the PR firm made her a target for media, investigators, angry investors, as well as to people who were merely curious. She couldn't withstand the pressure. She went into hiding and avoidance became a way of life.

Her cousin Florence offered her a place to hide in her home in the Fan District of Richmond, Virginia and was a lifesaver for Leigh for almost two years, but Florence died and now Leigh's alone and doesn't know how to un-hide herself, how to find the courage to get out in public again - until the day an unexpected event occurs on her weekly trip to buy groceries and comes home with a cat. An unfriendly cat who's just as unhappy with the situation as she in. This event disrupts her usual routine and Leigh is swept along as a series of subsequent events unwind that force her out of the the careful life she's constructed. But re-emerging into everyday life won't be that simple because the sins of the past - even though she wasn't a party to them - will come back to harm her.

I have read a lot of Grace Greene's recent books and have loved them all. She creates memorable characters and interesting storylines, stories and characters that I love becoming involved with.

A Heart Beyond features Leigh, who escapes her real life in New York and tries to hide out in her cousin's home in Richmond. Well, you just know that the community is not going to let her hide and they end up taking her in under their wings. A cat plays a central role in this story and I would love to follow the life of this blessed cat. Who would have thought that a cat would play such a pivotal piece in Leigh story?

As with all of Grace's stories, I read this book non-stop. It was a story I couldn't wait to finish but I also didn't want to end. I highly recommend A Heart Beyond for a feel good, somewhat complicated, escape read.

“ Everyone has something they carry around. Sometimes visible, sometimes not”.

Leigh Ann has been living, rather hiding out at her cousins house for the past few years.
At one time she had it all, she was a model, headed up her own PR firm, was engaged and grew up very privileged.

Her father and ex fiancee are charged with a Ponzi scheme and Leigh Ann retreats to her cousins house for the peace and solitude… however, years later, she is still afraid to drive, go outside the house, nor have any social interaction.

Through a series of confusing events Leigh is left taking care of a cat. This opens up world that you cannot begin to imagine.

I loved watching Leigh Ann evolve and I loved Sam jr.

What a great, heartfelt, engrossing story! I read it cover to cover in one sitting!

‘Live the moment, but don’t focus on it.’

“Everyone has something they carry around. Sometimes visible, sometimes not.”

Leigh Ann has been living with her cousin for a few years. She has actually been hiding out thanks to her dad and ex fiancée.
This was one of those books that grabbed my curiosity from the start.
Friendship, surprises, fear, love, grief. A cat and her name is Harvey!
A heartfelt story you won’t want to put down.

I haven’t read a book by author Grace Greene in a while and I’ve missed it. I can just feel it’s a Grace Greene book as soon as I start reading. She writes about people, good people, who have had bad things, or one really big bad thing, happen to them and they are lost. They are symbolically drawn into a ball, hiding, keeping their emotions in check, not exposing themselves to more hurt. We feel for them the minute we meet them.

Leigh Ann Eden was rather famous, successful, popular, engaged to be married. And it all ended in the blink of an eye when her father was convicted of financial crimes. She wasn’t involved, none of this was her fault, but that didn’t matter. As the public face of her PR firm she was known, and the public turned on her. As did her fiancé. So she ran.

She “hid out” with her cousin Florence in Richmond, Virginia. She needed a break, needed to be out of the public eye, needed to have no demands and no stress. And that’s exactly what life with Florence provided. But you know how once you start avoiding something, start hiding from it, it becomes a habit that is very hard to break. The less you engage with others the less you want to. And that’s how it became for Leigh Ann, and when Florence dies Leigh Ann is faced with an important decision: continue hiding, continue the solitary life that is no longer a quiet life enjoyed with Florence but now a life alone, or get back into the world, at least to some degree. Leigh Ann doesn’t drive any more, doesn’t work thanks to the settlement from the sale of her portion of the PR company, doesn’t socialize except for the briefest interactions with her neighbors, doesn’t have contact with her father or her ex, and infrequently speaks with her mother. She feels a bit of a stirring that tells her she has to try to come alive again, but she makes no moves to do so – until a delightful encounter with a cat told in author Greene’s always delightful fashion forces her to do something, because her life is not the only one at stake now.

I say delightful because it’s delightful to read, not so much so for Leigh Ann to experience. She’s merely chasing the can of tuna that fell from her grocery bag when two women mistake her for the cat sitter and leave before she can explain. Now she’s stuck with a grumpy cat she barely managed to get into the carrier. What does she want or need with a cat? But she can’t just leave it there. And when she goes back the next day the house seems deserted. So now she’s really stuck. She needs help – the cat hides, grumps, may be sick, needs to eat – but where is this help to come from? Well, from her neighbors, Samuel Marshburn who sees her come home with the cat and another neighbor who cares for cats and has supplies she will share. Leigh Ann is grateful but still plans to take Harvey (Harvey? Well, that was the name on the carrier) somewhere other than here as soon as possible. Turns out Harvey is in fact Ms. Harvey and is having kittens. Yikes. Leigh Ann is well and truly stuck now, but is that so bad?

But who shows up at her door next is a surprise that kind of feels good but makes her a little nervous. It’s not Samuel who she expected but Sam Jr. The same Sam Jr. that Florence and Samuel tried to match her up with a couple years ago. He’s pretty good looking and a very nice guy but he was just getting over a bad break up and she was still in full hiding mode, so the timing wasn’t right. Is it now? Sam presses just a tiny bit and she’s intrigued but still afraid. A tantalizing moment.

And right here is where the cozy, comfortable blanket of Grace Greene writing closes over you and warms you from the inside out. It’s not all warm and fuzzy but it sure feels good. Things – and people – aren’t what they seem. Someone has been in the house. Her ex shows up out of the blue and seems . . . evil in a way. What is going on? What went on with her father? Somebody seems to be looking for something but what is it and where is it? Who can she trust? Is any of this worth coming out of her shell? Could be. She falls hard for Harvey and those kittens, and there’s something, some spark, between her and Sam Jr. They aren’t teenagers, they’re adults with life experiences that have shaped them, and also taught them what they might be missing or what they might need.

A Heart Beyond is an exciting, fast-paced journey with two people and an entire neighborhood, a whole bunch of cats, and blasts from the past that aren’t very pleasant and shine a bright light on things that happened that are much clearer now. The characters are deep and well-drawn, the dialogue is perfect – sweet, snappy, snappish, funny – and the cats are adorable. What more could you want from a story? Grace Greene always, always, always delivers. There are little peeks and reminders of other books and Wildflower House which just increase the feeling of being home. Thanks to author Grace Green for providing an advance copy of A Heart Beyond as part of her review team. I thoroughly enjoyed it and recommend it without hesitation. I voluntarily leave this review; all opinions are my own.

A Cozy Comfortable (Cat) Blanket. Sometimes You Just Need Space To Heal. Ok, so I can't decide on a title for this review and both of those work, so this review gets two titles. :) The first was stolen from a phrase another reviewer used and then modified slightly to put my own twist, the second is completely my own.

This is one of those books where seemingly not much happens. We encounter a woman after the tragedy has already struck, and we get enough of the backstory to be invested in her character, but that isn't where she is *right now*. Where she is *right now* is a series of WTF comedic elements that wind up with her having a cat... that she doesn't actually own, and that seemingly doesn't want to be owned at all.

And in the process of acquiring said cat and learning to take care of it... well, maybe she finally has space to simply *be* and to heal from the aforementioned trauma. Maybe there is a possible romantic interest, but maybe there doesn't actually need to be a romance. Maybe, just maybe, we can have a book that is essentially about nothing more than finding the space to simply *be*, to allow the space to heal without focusing on the trauma or the process of healing... and simply allow the healing to happen.

Maybe this isn't the case with every trauma and every healing - there are absolutely times for more decisive and immediate actions in both, and there is absolutely space for stories detailing such journeys. But that journey isn't this journey, and Grace here brings exactly that - grace - in showing this kind of healing too. Of just taking care of your (often annoying) cat and maybe sitting under a comfortably cozy (even cat print, such as one in particular from Vera Bradley) blanket and simply *being*. Not necessarily "enjoying" the moment or having any other emotion or being "mindful" or anything else. Just. Simply. Being.

Grace has done phenomenal work with more "active" healing in prior books, and to see what she does here with such a simple concept... it is like watching a 3* Michelin chef make a boiled egg, or a particularly talented bartender make the perfect Old Fashioned... it is simply a thing of utter beauty, one that is not often found and is to be savored when you do find it.

Very much recommended.

Grace Greene's A Heart Beyond was such an uplifting, enjoyable look into the world of a woman struggling not only with the notoriety that comes from being in the orbit of someone who committed a high-profile crime, but with the loss and fallout of that situation.

Understandably so, Leigh Ann just wanted a safe place to hide and start her life over again. Luckily her cousin offered a place to allow her to heal, but that resulted in Leigh Ann becoming somewhat of a recluse without much interaction with others. That changed when she had a cat thrust upon her...and found herself coming into contact with more people than she'd had in her life for two years. I felt for Leigh Ann and rooted for people that were trying to offer her friendship when she needed it most.

This book is written in Grace Greene's gentle style paired with her beautiful descriptions and keen understanding of human nature. After reading a book by this wonderful author, I always feel as if I just returned from a walk in nature, perhaps near a waterfall with plenty of birdsong to keep me company. The story is engrossing, but Ms. Greene has an easy, peaceful way of getting where she wants to take the reader.

If you haven't yet read Grace Greene, now is the time because you're missing out on what she does best, journeys of the heart and soul to find healing, peace, or a second chance, depending upon the story. I highly recommend A Heart Beyond. In this crazy, discordant, and oftentimes negative world we live in these days, a visit to any of Grace Greene's fictional worlds is just the balm your soul needs.

I received an ARC at my request and as always, all thoughts are my own and happily shared.

There is a scene in this book where Sam takes Leigh for a ride in the country, asking her to trust him. Initially, a confirmed city girl, Leigh dislikes being out of her comfort zone and wishes to get it over with and to return home. After contemplating all of the reasons she has to trust Sam, she decides to approach this trip with more of an open mind and enjoys herself enough to later return on her own. This scene is a great analogy for my experience with A Heart Beyond. Initially I, who am not a pet person, was not experiencing the same enjoyment that I usually do from a Grace Greene novel, telling my husband that there was just too much focus on the cat. Then it was as though Grace was asking me to trust her. I considered the delight I had taken in the fourteen of her books that I had read over the last six years, and knew that I could indeed trust her to give me a delightful reading experience this time. So, with a more open mind, I continued reading and was not disappointed. The story took some turns that involved both intrigue and romance, and some valuable life lessons about worry and moving forward after hurt and betrayal. It wasn't long before I had a hard time putting the book down. It was a delightful read.

Grace Greene is truly a trusted author, and I highly recommend A Heart Beyond and all of her other novels. It was certainly wonderful to revisit Cub Creek, home of the Wildflower House in this book. I am grateful to have received a complimentary copy of this book from the author without obligation. All opinions expressed here are my own.

This is a warm, heartfelt novel that everyone will get caught up in! I sure did!
There is friendship, hope and love; as well as mystery, suspense and genuine fear.

Leigh has been hiding for years in a small home that is owned by her cousin. Florence took Leigh in to keep her safe from an ex-fiance and her father who is in prison.
When Florence dies, Leigh is gifted this home and many special remembrances.
It is tiny, but definitely comfortable and nobody can find her.
Never say Never as things begin to change.
What will she do? Who can she trust? Will Leigh ever be able to resume a "normal" life?

I love Leigh and Harvey as they strike up an unusual friendship and learn to trust each other to become a family.
Thank you for the privilege of reading and reviewing this ARC. This is my new favorite Grace Greene book! I know it will be a hit!

There's something special about a Grace Green novel. Any Grace Green novel, but this particular one grabbed me from the first page. It's one of those books that you can't put down, even when the hubby asks if we are going to have any dinner tonight. Do you like mysteries? Do you like sweet friendships that maybe could be more someday? A Heart Beyond has those and much, much more. There's a cat! If I remember correctly, HER name is Harvey! Oh there are surprises, a broken porch light, lights in the garage at night, a friendship with Sam, and of course, cats. I would be thrilled if there was another book to follow this one. I'm not ready to say goodbye to Leigh and her crazy life. You will love this book. I did, and I highly recommend it!

Another great story by Grace. All the feels... Leigh is partner in a big Public Relations company when her father is arrested for financial crimes. Despite having nothing to do with it by having the same last name, her reputation took a big hit . People thought she would have to have been in on it. Leaving her business, she withdraws . Moving away and staying with a cousin, changing her name and living in seclusion. After Florence dies, she has to unhide herself and, while walking to grocery, ends up with a cat thru a mix-up. Caring for this cat helps her start to come out of hiding. Really good story,I highly recommend it.

I think that I have read all of Grace Greene's books and have loved them all. In this book, Leigh Ann has a lot of trust issues. She has many reasons for it. When she becomes Harvey's (the cat) person, she starts to break down the wall and let people in. This is a heart warming story with a few twists. I was happy that she went to Cub Creek and hopefully another story may emerge with the horse stables (hint hint).

A precious and heartfelt story that includes dealing with grief, family, a mystery, and a mistaken identity. Sometimes the misunderstandings in life can bring joy and happiness. The cats in the story bring an interesting element that ties everything together. A great read. I recieved a complimentary copy of the book. No review was required.

You have to look to the future

I loved this story I guess especially because, I love cats. It was a sweet story of true friendship and love. I loved Weighs memories of her aunt and the wisdom she shared with her. I loved the true friend Sam was and how that friendship blossomed unto love. Just a lovely story.

I am in the process of reading Grace’s books. My mom has read them all with this one being the most recent. As a cat lover, this one is my favorite so far.

It was fun to read a book set in a place with which I am familiar. The flow is great, and the characters are well developed.
