What if the person you loved and knew turns out to be someone you never knew at all?
Life is beautiful for Ifechukwu. She has everything; a loving father, a thriving business, and a man that loves her more than she ever imagined possible.
Everything changes when a charming stranger, harbouring a dark secret appears at her engagement party, triggering a series of events that set her on the run while questioning the intentions and loyalties of those around her—including that of the man she is planning to spend the rest of her life with. On her quest to finding answers, she realizes that hidden among the many emotions warring inside her is one feeling she does not want to nurse. Especially not for the uncanny handsome stranger who is after her for one reason...maybe her body and her death.
Is she wrong about the stranger's intention? Could there be someone else who wants her dead? Is this handsome stranger only using her as a bait to lure 'this' someone out?
This is a love triangle thriller involving a woman called Ife, her boyfriend, George and her love interest Rasheed. Ife is about to marry George but they are having some issues between them. He’s controlling and demanding. He wants a contract and Rasheed is his link to achieving that. He needs Ife’s help to secure Rasheed’s interest because he can sense that Rasheed is interested in her. As Ife interacts with both men, she realises there’s a dark connection between them and she doesn’t know who to trust. She is torn between her loyalty to George and the desire that Rasheed stirs within her. It’s a captivating story that will have you questioning the saying “The Devil you know is better than the angel you don’t” 😀
A big thank you to Author Rosemary Okafor for the books she sent me, Black White Blur was one of them. I’d already seen the reviews and praise this book had received, and knowing how consistent the author is, I had a feeling I was in for something powerful.
And I was right.
From the very first chapter, this story pulled me in. It follows Ife, a brilliant woman, beautiful and bold, but so frustrating at times. Especially when it comes to love. She didn’t just ignore the red flags; she painted over them in soft pink, and then repainted it again so much, it was turning white and called it love. It was almost painful watching her make excuses for a man who clearly wasn’t trying.
That man? George. If you’ve never met a fictional character that makes your blood boil, let this be your introduction. But strangely, by the end, I was glad to have met him because men like him exist. And this book makes sure you know how to spot them.
Then we meet Rasheed. Quiet, grounded, and exactly the breath of fresh air the story needed. He says just enough, does just enough and it’s enough. He’s the kind of presence that gently shifts everything around him. He makes you believe, love doesn't have to be loud or insane, it can be calm and yet true.
Together, these three characters take me through a story that’s both messy and meaningful. It made me pause, reflect, and rethink so many things I thought I already understood.
What I loved most about Black White Blur is how it explored themes like marriage, second chances, faith, forgiveness, and personal growth. It didn’t shy away from the hard parts, but it also reminded me that love is no matter how complicated or delusional it is, it is still something worth believing in.
This book is more than a psychological thriller. It’s a conversation starter. It stays with you long after the last page, gently shifting how you see certain things, and giving you language for feelings you didn’t know how to name.
It gives you a voice, and a fresh pair of eyes to see things.
This book truly captured the essence of a psychological thriller! The suspense exceeded my expectations. Just when I thought I had figured out the culprit, I began to suspect someone else. I had to relax and let the story unfold naturally. Show me an FMC that's more foolish than Ifechukwu; I’ll wait. 😤 Her foolishness isn't because she's an "aje butter"; it was a personal choice. I mean, why would she ignore George's red flags? Even a blind person would see them! Ifechukwu stressed me out, for real! Thank goodness for the wisdom she gained by the end. George is a complete RED FLAG—no long talk. Now, Rasheed—oh, my Rasheed. Initially, I couldn't stand him, but as the saying goes, "Don't judge a book by its cover." Rasheed turned out to be a sweet guy. I think it was after meeting him that my interest in Arewa men grew intense. I love when female authors write about MMCs that are genuinely good. Ms. Rosemary tackled highly sensitive themes in this book, including childhood trauma, friendship, love, secrets, interreligious marriage, and politics. Speaking of friendship, I loved Habiba! As for Fola—Jesus Christ, that lady is terrible. Some people have such deep minds... We really need to beware of people, the kind of friends we keep. Ms. Rosemary Okafor delivered with this book, fr! I highly recommend it to lovers of romantic psychological thrillers.
4.5 ⭐️s This book is absolutely beautiful from the first page to the last page. A beautifully written and well crafted romantic thriller and trust me I would not have it any other way. The characters are written really well and the plot is home so it made me all giddy. The detail and research done is amazing and I so much enjoyed the romance between Ifechukwu and AbdulRasheed and how much of realness and thought was put into their relationship which I even wanted to be longer. I read the book at the right time that’s for sure and will definitely not stop recommending this book. Again the romance especially words of affirmation and genuine love in the book didn’t go unnoticed. I recommend.
BOOK: BLACK WHITE BLUR AUTHOR: ROSEMARY OKAFOR PUB DATE: PUBLISHED 🧍🏽♀️🔪 REVIEW- 4.5 stars I decided to read this book because of the amazing reviews I've been reading, and I'm glad I did! It was everything the readers described and more. First of all, I loved the author's writing. It was beautiful, and I liked the mixture of familiar Nigerian slang, too. 🔪🧍🏽♀️ I expected the suspense, but even I was surprised at how good it was. First of all, I would choose A as the culprit, and then I would change it B. I liked how the author didn't use any names for the second timeline and second pov. It kept me guessing until the last third of the book. I was satisfied with who the culprit was and that he got what he rightly deserved. 🧍🏽♀️🔪 For me, Ifechukwu was an FMC that I tried to understand. She made extremely foolish decisions in the book. It was even more baffling because from the outside, she had a perfect life. She's a CEO in her own right, has a living family, and is rich. So, I couldn't understand why she kept ignoring the obvious red flags. But, I understand that it was an integral part of the book, and I did enjoy reading about her character development. She made the right decision at the end. 🔪🧍🏽♀️ I liked how the author pitted Rasheed and George against each other. Like, I couldn't guess who the real bad guy was. Who was lying and stuff. Ifechukwu was just as confused as I was. I'm glad that 'my' bad guy was the actual bad guy. The title was fitting. I also appreciated the trigger warning at the beginning of the book. 🧍🏽♀️🔪 For me, the ending was perfect. After the whole ordeal, I'm glad that Ife didn't just rush into the next guy's arms. She spent some time re-discovering herself and healing from the past. That was the best for her, really. 🔪🧍🏽♀️ This book was a really good one, and you should definitely try it!
Reading Black White Blur was a serious emotional rollercoaster! 🎢 From the moment I started, I just kept feeling frustrated with Ife 🙄. How can someone see all the red flags—bright and glaring—and still choose to stay in such a toxic relationship? 🚨 I became a director, every moment shouting “ohhhhh chim Ife , no be so you go dey!” 😱 How you go allow George control you like this?
And speaking of George—chai! His behavior is straight-up psychopathic 🚨, and I couldn’t understand how Ife didn’t see it 🙄. His low self-esteem is so evident, and the way he manipulates Ife Haiiiiiii 🤧
This book is thrilling and intense, but it also teaches hard truths 📚. It shows you the importance of watching who you date, noticing the signs, and not being foolish about love ❤️. If you’re in an abusive relationship, have the courage to walk away 🚶♀️. Trust me, it won’t get better if you stay 🙅♂️.
The ending, though, was bittersweet 🍭. It felt like after all the trauma, someone just handed a child a piece of candy to make them feel better 🍬. I was left with mixed emotions—relieved it was over, but also hurt by everything these ppl had gone through 🤕 although I vex for fola but still……
I have a lot on my mind about this book……. but Overall, I really loved the book 📚! It had me hooked from beginning to end, and it definitely left me thinking
This is the storyline in Black White Blur that features, Ifechukwu ,a successful hair vendor and a powerful politician’s daughter who falls in love with an abusive, manipulative broke George whose lifestyle he bankrolls. This book is about childhood trauma, abandonment, love,friendship,secrets,inter-religion relationship, sacrifice and friendship. The chemistry between Ifechukwu and Rasheed was attraction at first sight.. I love how their bond grew into somthing between and they didn’t just feed on their sexual attraction for each other. The book started off slow but everything picked up when it reached the climax stage. And oh !!! That plot twist !!! I didn’t see it coming. I thought I knew who the killer till the real killer confirmed it. I screamed 😂.Everyone needs a friend like Habiba. She was there for Ifechukwu even when she didn’t support her relationship with Gerorge. Rasheed was so intentional !!! If I was him, I would have give up a long time cos Ife was so stupid to see the signs..I love that he really fought for her to know the truth and for their love .. I’m rating it a 4.5/5
This story is one that will leave you intrigued, gripping the edge of your seat to find out who the bad guy is.
And it will surprise you, no matter how much you guess.
I enjoyed every bit of it, from the prologue to the end.
Ifechukwu comes off as a somewhat spoiled and entitled girl. George is the guy everyone can see is bad for her. Rasheed is a stranger with so much dangerous baggage that sets Ifechukwu on fire.
Somewhere in between is a dark and seedy soul bent on wrecking bloody havoc.
Psychological thriller romance set in Nigeria, the story is so relatable and I particularly love the author’s use of indigenous language and slangs.
Rosemary has become a master at crafting real stories and this book is a testament to gay.
Thus is the first intense thriller I am reading from thins author and I must say I love the pace, the suspense, the adrenaline.
However, the unidentified voice written in the 2nd person POV confused me initially. Also, the prologue because I couldn't link the characters in the prologue with the characters in the main story until I was deep in the stand everything made sense.
I love it that the mystery was unravelled gradually. And there were a lot of foreshadowing that made the who suspense make sense at the end.
I love the romance too. Especially the fact that the author ended the book with a satisfying sex scene. I love it.
Okay...... This review is long overdue on Goodreads..... I had read this book earlier and given the author my honest review but this is now an official shout out and rave about this book.
Rosemary, I'll give a big thumbs up to you for this bravery in writing a psychological thriller which isn't your usual genre and you aced it so well.
From the prologue to the very last chapter, I went through it with my hands in my mouth literally, sitting at the edge of my seat and trying to figure out every move of each character. I loved the suspense, character development, plot and its different turns and twists.
Black White Blur is an African romantic psychological thriller that keeps you guessing from start to finish. I thought I had the characters figured out, but every assumption I made was shattered as the plot unfolded.
One of my favorite elements was the unnamed prologue/second POV. It kept me actively trying to piece the puzzle together. Ifechukwu, the FMC, tested my patience at times, but her flaws made her believable and kept me invested.
The tension between romance, mistrust, and danger was magnetic, and the characters were written in compelling shades of grey. By the final twist, I knew this wasn’t just a romance or a thriller, it was a masterclass in unpredictability.
When you are used to reading nothing but the best, you are sure to get a better part of her with every new work.
Very Nigerian in every way. The way the writer weaves the stories around the three Characters is so intense that you only want to turn the next page and leaves you guessing what in heaven's name is going to happen.
Love, trust, betrayal, pain and love again is so true to our human existence and this the writer has again explored so beautifully.
A romantic thriller with the right characters! Imagine someone you always root for is not who you think he is. George is one hell of a character, a manipulative one at that! Ifechukwu was trying to mess with me in this book, but I’m glad she got through it! Of course my best character would definitely be AbdulRasheed, Ifechukwu’s highkey saviour. This book explores the theme of family, friendship, childhood trauma, betrayal. If any of these themes interests you, you actually need to give this book a trial! This author, do not give less, trust me.
This book will take you on a rollercoaster of emotions. Without sharing spoilers, there'll come a time when you'll hate the heroine (sorry). However, the protagonists' love story is heartwarming, especially with all those naughty, Hausa words sprinkled in the conversation (swoon worthy). I'm not a lover of thrillers (in books or movies), but I enjoyed this story. The writer gives us a perfect closure and sweet ending. Highly recommended for thriller lovers.
Nigerian thriller ke? Sign me up ASAP!!🙂↔️ This book is saying that our family and upbringing has a lot to do with who we turn out to be (look at George… I don’t know about Ife sha because she was loved at home and still behaved like she wasn’t 😭) 4.5⭐️
My first rosemary book and damnnnnnn this book was everything for meeee The writer should better take her flowers 💐 she was too good at this book And the fmc I’m glad u finally received sense 🙂 Was it a good read ? Absolutely 💯
I love love ittt!! It was not predictable all through and the words in Italics, I was guessing who it was about, already knew it was George's POV but was it about Fola or Ife or both?, I've not read a romantic thriller and I love this introduction to the Genre. Plus it brought me out of my reading slump when I read it.
