The Safehouse

He wanted his property back…

Amanda Jackson had succumbed to the fact that she’d been a captive. That she’d involuntary fallen victim to an underground market of despicable men. To protect herself, she was willing to try anything; even attempting to convince her captor that he loved her. That plan backfired.

Connor Brooks didn’t show emotions with his captives. Bring them in, get them out, collect the cash, and repeat the process. Amanda, however, was different. He found himself growing attached to her. Possessive. When another man stole her from him, Connor was determined to get her back. By any means necessary.

Malcolm Luxx was used to dealing with shady business practices. He ran one of his own in the art world. He drew the line at Connor’s business. When he discovered one of the women he’d taken was his high school crush, he swooped in and saved her. Or so he thought.
Will the safehouse Malcolm has across the country be far enough to keep Connor and his goons from finding Amanda? Or by taking Amanda, has Malcolm just signed both of their death certificates?

He wanted his property back. And he’d get her even in The Safehouse.

Thanks to #NetGalley and #CityOwlPress for the book #TheSafehouse by #DanielleBannister. I loved this second book in The Captive Series and cannot wait for The Sanctuary. Malcolm and Amanda are running against time to hide from Connor, who will do anything to get Amanda back. Malcolm insists that he can keep Amanda safe in the Safehouse. Will Connor find them? Are they safe in the Safehouse?

THE SAFEHOUSE by Danielle Bannister.
A captive hearts novel book 2.
I loved the cover. I did like the recap at the start of the book. I do like Amanda and Malcolm. I like how he wants to protect her. I don't like Connor. He's creepy. Wow what a read. Action non stop. I didn't see that coming. Twisty. I really am enjoying this series. It's like a mini movie in my head. Holden was a surprise. I really do hope there is more to come. 5*.

I could barely put this down; what a sequel! I sacrificed sleep to read the first 3/4 of the book and then had to convince myself to put it down. By chapter 5, I was already hyped up with so much anticipation and anxiety for the characters, I just wanted to know how the book ended immediately. I did appreciate that this wasn't a full book on Amanda and Malcolm just running. It had the perfect amount of balance.

In the first book, I thought perhaps it was being set up to have Connor be the villain who redeems himself after Amanda experiences Stockholm Syndrome, until the appearance of Malcolm. This book, however, has shown the absolute depravity of Connor, where there are no redeemable qualities, which have certainly quelled my original prediction. He is a different breed of villain than I am used to; most likely, due to the fact that this feels much closer to reality. He gives me the ick every time I read his POV and I constantly was cringing at how much more unlikeable he is in the sequel. The author did a phenomenal job in portraying who he really is as a person and I can say without a doubt, Connor is one of the evilest characters I have read about.

Now Malcolm is too good to be true and despite getting frustrated with him during some peak moments, I realize he is truly depicted as a decent human being trying everything he can. He doesn't have some super power and stuff doesn't just work out for him 24-7; things are messy and I felt it added to the story. Certain scenes felt plausible. While I so badly want a HEA for Malcolm now, I know we will see more of him and Amanda in the third book. As expected, the book ends on a bit of a cliffhanger with some new characters. It's a good twist and I thoroughly look forward to reading the third installment!

I had the opportunity to receive a copy of this book via the publisher and am voluntarily leaving a review.

When Malcolm decides to rescue Amanda from Connor, they both know they have signed their death warrant. Now on the run, Malcolm and Amanda must trust each other in order to survive. However, Connor is hot on their heels, because nobody takes what's his.

Thank you #netgalley and #owlcitypress for the ARC of this book!

In this sequel to The Cage, we return to Malcolm and Amanda, now on the run from Connor. Things are surprisingly much more tense and twisted this time around.

I loved seeing all the POVs: Amanda, Connor, and now Malcolm. It allowed the readers to truly dive inside all of the characters heads, discover their motivations and thought processes, as well as seeing who they really are. In this, Connor has become truly a devil. In the first book, it was hard to really get a feel for who he was, but this book put all of those thoughts to rest. He is a twisted SOB.

While the spice is about as spicy as the first book, it's much less twisted. Amanda and Malcolm engage in some consensually steamy moments, which are so hot.

This book is definitely more brutal, as there are deaths, tortures, and mutilations. Beware.

My biggest complaint is that the author REALLY leaned into Amandas post abuse sexualization of herself, which lead to some minorly cringy moments between her and Malcolm.

Overall, and excellent follow up to The Cage. This book is also left on a cliffhanger, although it adds in some new characters. I'm excited to see where everyone's story goes, and more excited to see if Connor finally get his.

4⭐️ I loved this book, the unexpected twists and character changes were perfect. From the moment I picked it up I couldn’t put it down, it draws you in and keeps hold of your attention.

Overall, the book was very well written and the perfect follow up from part one. I can’t wait for the next book. This is such a good horror/romance series. Perfect for anyone who enjoys dark romance books like haunting and hunting Adeline. The set-up for book 3 is perfect, draws you in, desperate to see what happens next.

Book 1 was amazing and this was the perfect follow-up book. The whole plot was amazing and completely unexpected.

The relationship between Amanda and Malcom was something I didn’t expect, the way they found themselves thrown together again after so long and how he is willing to help her and expects nothing in return except for her to trust him to keep her safe.

Connors' character is truly unhinged. Just when you thought he might be seeing sense or changing a little think he snaps back to his true dangerous self.

I loved every minute of this book. The author did a fantastic job. I can’t wait to see what happens to Kelli and Holden.

Disclaimer: I received this as a free advanced copy. I am very grateful for this. These are my honest thoughts and opinions, and I am leaving this review of my own choice. I am voluntarily leaving this review.

I'm back with The Safehouse, the second book of the Captive Series by Danielle Bannister. Check out my review for the first book from a couple of weeks ago. If you want to read this, make sure you read the first one as this starts from the cliffhanger ending of book one. Please be warned that there is trigger warnings in this series of depictions of human trafficking, abuse, rape, and trauma. Please read with caution

Danielle Bannisters brings us right back into the Dark World she built in Book 1, and my wee Dark Romance heart is making itself known as this was just an epic read, with twist and turns that made me go what is going happen next?!

How many times have you been reading a book and finding yourself talking to the characters or wanting to throttle the characters? Danielle Bannisters writing does that to me, where I was just engrossed and really wanting to know what was going to happen next. It was great to see the relationship develop for Malcom and Amanda as the book went on, but Connor I want to give him a swift kick up the jacksie ( im being polite) and more - not that it would do anything with how he is

But if you are looking for a thriller with dark romance, give this series a read you won't be disappointed... I'm looking forward to seeing what happens in book 3 because you did it again and ended on a cliffhanger..... nooooooo

This is book 2 in this series and it for sure did not disappoint. This picked up right where the first one left off and I was on the edge of the seat for the entire book. I had to know what happened and where this book was going !! I absolutely loved Amanda. I just felt for her in so many ways. My heart broke for her. Then I was like screaming out loud at her plan and what she did. And was going why why why ?!!!! Malcom had my heart and I was routing for him the entire book. I absolutely loved him and Amanda together and I really hope we can see more of them in the next book.
This book was intense but in all the best ways possible !!! I loved the description and the graphics of this book. I seriously couldn't put this book down and I read in hours cause I had to know what was going to happen!!!
I need more. I can't wait for the next book to come out I hope I don't have to wait too long because I'm dying to know what's going to happen. Ahhh the ending of this book I was shocked!!! Talk about twists and turns and I didn't see that coming!!! The writing of this book was absolutely amazing. Seriously this series is a new favorite for me. I may have to go read again because I loved that much !!!!!
Go and get this series but check the trigger warnings before reading.

***You must ready The Cage prior to reading this book******
Book starts where “The Cage” ended, Amanda is in the vehicle with Malcolm and he is planning on setting her free but needs to make sure she is safe first from Connor.
When Connor realizes that his kidnapped had been kidnapped he was furious and vowed to get her back. But to what lengths will he go and why does he care about Amanda so much. Those are things that he is fighting to find the answers. Amanda has finally caught the eye of the boy she had a crush on in high school but can he heal her from the trauma, can he help her feel love and cherished or is the trauma and her mental breakdown too much to have a relationship. Her only hope for anything real is Malcolm, but can he keep her safe and out of Connor’s hands.
The book contains scenes with bondage, Master/pet, Dom/sub, abuse and torture, fear and starvation, kept like dogs at a pound.
This second book to the series is just as twisted, dark and suspenseful as the first book. New characters added and identities false, betrayal, doing anything to survive.
Book ends with a cliffhanger, to be continued. Seriously an intense read.

Book two of the Captive series and continuing from The Cage, The Safe House ramps up the action.

Malcom has a window into Amanda's soul, born of the secret love he's harboured for her all these years.
"She obviously wasn't used to someone treating her with respect. Given her past relationship with men, it wasn't hard to understand why. She needed to know, however, that I wasn't like them."

Amanda, who had a crush on Malcom when he was just Dayton Littlefields at school, doesn’t realize that she loves Malcom, but her actions show that she does. Malcom also makes her evaluate her own actions.
"I wondered if Malcom might be right. Were my actions to try and have sex with him a trauma response?"

Meanwhile Connor the kidnapper is furious.
"If there was so much as a scratch on Amanda, I'd rip his c**k off before I kill him and shove it down his throat. However, if Amanda was in on this escape... No. Don't even think it. She's been kidnapped. Plain and simple."

This book had me on tenterhooks all the way through.
Will book three (The Sanctuary) bring the resolution? This book finished on a cliffhanger that made me wonder.

This is Book 2 of The Captive series.

The story continues on from Book 1, and given the complexity of the situation, you absolutely need to read this series in order.

This is the type of series that you really shouldn't enjoy reading given the dark subject matter, but you end up becoming so engrossed it is inevitable, you will enjoy it.

I enjoy Thrillers but have been finding them quite 'samey' recently but Danielle's series is in an entirely different league to most Thrillers I've read - her story most definitely isn't the same as any Thriller I've read.

I found the pace of The Safehouse to be calmer than Book 1 in that while you can feel the desperation, the story pace seemed more controlled which I think is a reflection on the men in the story.

I also felt that The Safehouse was tamer than The Cage, but this could also be because I knew what to expect by this book!

This book is absolutely fantastic, and if you enjoy thrillers, then this is absolutely one for you - just check out the Trigger Warnings beforehand again.

The only issue I have now is waiting for the next book in the series!

Highly recommend!

This is book 2 in a series, and although there is a book 1 recap at the start, I really think you need to have read book 1 (The Cage) before you read book 2. As with The Cage, there are some very important trigger warnings, so make sure you check those out.

I'm not sure what drew me to this series originally, if you'd asked me if I wanted to read a book about people trafficking and s*x abuse I would have said no. But I'm so glad I gave it a go as I'm really enjoying (in a weird way) the thrill of the books. Its not an easy read though.

As soon as I finished book 1, I was desperate to read book 2. Luckily I only had to wait a week to find out if Amanda was safe. Would she be returned to Connor? Could she trust Malcom? Well im not going to answer those questions as I wouldn't want to spoil the book for anyone.

But woah did this book also end on a cliff hanger! I NEED book 3! I'm still not 100% sure on who I can trust. And I'm all over that!

This is the second book in The Captive series and you may remember seeing my review for book 1 - The Cage - a couple of weeks ago!

I loved the first book so much and having been left on that cliffhanger, I couldn't wait to dive into this one and see how the story continued.

This is definitely a series to read in order from the start as this second book continues on right from where we left off.

I absolutely loved that Malcolm had swoopednin to rescue Amanda but still unsure whether she really wants saving or whether she's genuinely got feelings now for Connor.
He definitely has developed and again, does he really have feelings or is he just wanting what's his!?

This had me engrossed from the first page - I mean, before that really! - but I was totally sucked back into this grimy world and was on the edge of my seat and racing through the pages - I just couldnt get enough of it!

Again this is quite dark and brutal but it's just so addictive and the writing style grabs and holds your attention right the way through.
It's shocking but it's exciting too!

I am obsessed and cannot wait to see what book 3 has in store for us!.....

I know the concept of this series is captives but I love how fast paced it is and I'm already excited for book three! I feel this one is more about Connor and his childhood, explaining how he turned out the way he did. I feel that Connor and Amanda have bits in common due to their pasts but that isn't always the best in this situation.

Does she play to his past feelings and reactions as both have suffered abuse by others or does she see if she can escape? Connor is very possessive and even though his role is to train and sell his pets, he's still undecided about Amanda. She has a hold over him that hasn't happened before.

This book brings in Malcolm Luxx, all is not what it seems with him, I like how Amanda and Malcolm's story plays out, full of action and I like Malcolm's character.

Just when you think you know how it's going to go, a new direction comes to the surface and throws it all out of joint, bring it on!

5 ⭐ 2 🌶

This series has a hold on my dark romance loving heart. I thought this was a duet and the story was ending, however we're left on an interesting cliffhanger and a hint that we're following a new couple as the series continues.

Malcolm and Amanda are so dang cute together. I loved how much he loved her and how bluntly she wanted to get in his pants. I know her feelings are there, but she's so messed up and broken and it was such an interesting take on that kind of character. She is one of the strongest broken "pets" I've read about and I loved her for it.

I can't wait to see where the story goes from here. We have a happy-ish for now situation with Malcolm and Amanda, and a new situation with 2 characters I won't name for spoilers sake, so I'm really hoping the next book is 4 POVs or that we go back to Malcolm and Amanda in the near future.

The Safehouse continues from Book One, The Safe. Amanda is on the run with Malcolm to get to Malcolm's Safehouse and hide from Connor. Connor finds out Malcolm's secrets and, along with his men, tries to get Malcolm and retrieve Amanda since no one steals from Connor and lives to tell the tale. Will Malcolm and Amanda make it to the safehouse, and will they be safe? Or will Connor be able to steal Amanda back, and will she be safe from Connor?
I received an arc for my voluntary honest review for NN Book Blog. Once again Danielle keeps you on the edge of your seat and turning the pages until the end with all the suspense, twists, and turns that you don't see coming. This book may not be for everyone as there may be triggers for some; therefore, heed the author's warnings before reading. I can't wait to see what happens in Book Three to see what happens after the ending in The Safehouse.

This is the second book in the Captive Series and follows the story of Malcolm Luxx, Conner Brooks and Amanda as Malcolm attempts to rescue Amanda from the sadistic clutches of Conner Brooks.

I received this a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.

This book is graphic in nature, dealing with the harsh and brutal realities of the sex trafficking industry. The themes in this book are dark, twisted and often times disturbing. There are not many scenes in this book (especially compared to the first one). Most can easily be skipped.

I would say read my review of the first book to see all the triggers - because, yes those same triggers remain with the added one of abuse including caging, and dismemberment and murder.

Okay so yet again I was so invested before finishing the first paragraph of this book.. I felt happy for Amanda although felt like I just wanted to knock some sense into her.. running back like that.. what did she think would happen he'd make her a free pet.. laughable!

I know I shouldn't but I laughed at the crate! I know that's bad but does teach her a lesson not to be so dumb and run from your savour back into the 'cage'..

I absolutely love Malcolm, what his doing for a highschool crush is so cute. Going through all that and still trying to save her. I can't wait to see what happens next!

And Kelli.. oooo I'm so invested!!

The Safehouse continues from where The Cage ended.

Malcom takes Amanda and runs to his safehouse with Connor on their heels. Will they make it there in time so Amanda can finally be free or will Connor win the race and ultimately get his “pet” back?

I appreciated this book more than the first one. The Safe house had plenty of spice but we get to know the characters better (like learning about their past!!). I loved the mix of thriller and dark romance. This book grabbed on and held my attention to the very end. I needed to know how the chase ended.

I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review. These are my honest thoughts.

YES! Danielle Bannister! Fabulous!

I loved The Cage and have been eagerly awaiting the sequel, The Safehouse and it was definitely worth the wait!

I'm not going to say to much as I don't want to venture into spoiler territory for anyone who hasn't read The Cage first, which is pretty essential, to understand what has lead up to this point, but Amanda has escaped and the drama doesn't let up!

Connor is one twisted psycho, Malcolm is fascinating and Amanda is incredibly determined. A must read!

The Safehouse continues on from The Cage. Amanda and Malcolm are on the run and trying to reach Malcolm’s safe house to escape Connors clutches. But Connor’s men are hot on their heels. This book is just as gripping and intense as Book one. There are plenty of twist and turns that keep the reader heavily invested from the very beginning. The author has a clear talent for writing suspenseful, edgy stories that you don’t want to end. You just don’t see the twist and turns coming, adding to the intensity of the story. There are however, some triggers that readers should be aware of before reading. This book ends on a cliffhanger, leaving you hungry for the next instalment.

The Safehouse by Danielle Bannister is a psychological thriller novel. This is book 2 in the series and you definitely want to read the first book to understand what is going on. It flowed well from the first novel and picked right up with the pace.

The author does a great job with the story line and keeps you guessing with every twist and turn. Amanda and Malcolm have found each other again after being thrown back together. He’s trying to keep her safe as their romance has resparked. There is so much mystery as well romance mixed in.

I can not wait for book 3. I am anticipating what Connor, who is truly unhinged, will do next.

Book two in the series, that I didn’t want to end, with lots of twists and turns that I didn’t expect when starting this one.

Amanda and Malcom are running away from Conner. She realizes that her lusting after her captor didn’t automatically make her love him and that Malcom just wants to help her be free of him. Conner is angry that Malcom would kidnap his property. But he just wants her back to find a new buyer, right?

The twists are kind of unpredictable, but make sense when reading as it’s just one roadblock or hot moment that make this book unput-downable!

An open ending slash cliffhanger gets me excited for the next book!

The Safehouse - was about Amanda, Malcom and Conner!

Malcom was a sweetheart and the kinda person you would love to find after you’ve been through hell… he’s been through his own things but it’s what made him who he was.

I’m not going to say anything more as I don’t want to spoil it for you - but I will say I can’t wait for the next book!!!

In a way I could relate to some of Amanda’s coping mechanisms (if you’ve not been in those type of situations I don’t think you can really understand fully) and felt they were portrayed really well.

The Safehouse was a tense, dark, and spicy thriller, definitely a fitting follow-up to The Cage, which I also really enjoyed.

Danielle has a way with her writing of drawing you straight in and not letting go.
The Safehouse was compelling, fast paced, and adrenaline filled.
I loved the relationship between Amanda and Malcolm. They had great chemistry.

I'm looking forward to the next installment: The Sanctuary.

This picks right up from The Cage, so if you haven’t read it you’ll want to before reading this. This was wild and crazy in all the best ways when it comes to this genre. Connor is crazy and possibly in love so of course that means that he has to find her and kill Malcolm. Though will he and does he trust Amanda and that she wants him and not Malcolm. Regardless Connor wants his property back and he does anything he can in this story.

This sequel did not disappoint me at all after I had read book one. The first book left me on a cliff hanger and when I got into this the author had me from page one and read all of this today. I love and hate these characters (some of them at the same time). We continued the story of Amanda and her knight in shining armor Malcolm and their quest to escape from Connor. The way this story ended was not what I expected and the reveal that nobody is who they seem to be. I can not wait for book 3 and I need this now.

I'm a huge fan of this series! I've been on the lookout for The Safehouse for months! I was dying to read it, and boy, was it good! It's better than book 1, in my opinion. Less spice and more character/plot focused. The Sanctuary is the next installment, and I feel like it might be my favorite of the 3 based on the snippet we were given. Can't wait!
