Really liked this one. Very short and free but so damn cute. I only wish there was more of Bailey and Linc. I like British English, there was a lot, learnt some new vocabulary too, the ones you won't find in dictionary, haha, like "You...you tosspot wank-bastard fucktarded nonce captain!" Still can't stop laughing at the names they called ex douchebag boyfriend. Anyway, quite entertaining for such a short thing.

You can find it here for free:

Bailey was just far too immature for my liking, otherwise it was alright.

At one point I thought they were going to take turns giving her orgasms and I did a 'Oh potential gangbang ahead' squeal. But alas that never happened.

A super cute little story. Very British in language. Friends to lovers story that I really liked. Not a lot of description of people and places. the emphasis was on the character development of the heroine. The love/sex scenes felt fresh and fun. Nice way to spend about a half an hour.

After Bailey gets dumped by her long-term ex, her male friends decide to cheer her up the guy way. After getting her stinking drunk on Jaegermeister, they decide it’s about time to dish the dirt on the ex. After pointing out her lack of enthusiasm in her previous sexual experiences, they are all astounded to hear that she has never experienced an orgasm. Now feeling even crappier about her love life, she then has to contend with the sappy in love couples that frequent her wedding cake shop. Her friends are hell-bent on protecting her dignity by getting revenge on Craig (the ex) but one of them seems like he has more than a friendly reason for hoping she gets over her breakup quickly. Will she be able to get over the fact that he has always been her friend and chase that elusive orgasm?

This book blindsided me. It is uber short, but please don’t let that be a factor in deciding to read it. Also, a massive bonus that I didn’t realise is that it’s free on All Romance at the moment (I got the review copy from the author) Honestly, I’d have paid money for the giggle fit this novella gave me. Bailey is a bit of a whiny character at the start, but the last time I got dumped, I cried for a week, ate the entire counties weight in ice-cream and referred to all men as gits for a good 6 months….as break-up’s goes, I think she was fairly chipper! She lives with Tom and Ollie, with a permanent visitor in the shape of the lovely Linc. I loved the banter between them all and it was during them conversations that most of my laughing occurred. A particularly memorable moment was when Olly was referred to as a “Cunt Whisperer” because he knew exactly how to please a woman in bed (this particular quote got mixed reviews on twitter! ) They were a motley bunch of men but it was clear that all of their actions in this tale are done to protect her and cheer her up. As the book is written in first person, what we learn from the other characters is simply from Bailey’s POV, but the affection that she feels for them all comes across quite clearly. I could see the romance coming a mile off. From the way that Linc behaved towards her when she broke up with Craig, it was clear he didn’t quite see her as a friend. I won’t say more on this because I think you should go read it!

This was a hilarious novella with a very strong author voice. I’ll admit, my humour tends to border a little on the silly (and I happen to enjoy swearing) and I think this is one of the reasons that I enjoyed it so much. There were a lot of very British insults thrown around (tosspot for one) and I understand that this could be difficult for American audiences but I implore you to give it a go. I’ll be looking for more from this lady cos I loved this!

Truly enjoyed it. It must be the British sharp wit that keeps me coming back for more. I find their dialog entertaining and hilarious as hale. I finished this book in one sitting and laughed out loud at least a dozen times. Don’t even get me started on the goofy grin I had on my face the entire time. There was some steam factor… yes, but really this book was more about making me laugh and falling in love with the character right from the start. I don’t know how the book caught my attention. Oh who am I kidding??? I love PDA covers, but don’t let the cover fool you. There’s some pretty hilarious scenes in this book, endearing characters and not to mention a narrator that’s my brand of entertaining. Funny enough for me to read out loud to the hubby. He laughed too… probably more at my antics than the book, but he laughed. Well worth the ticket price. Give me more.

Clocking in somewhere between a short story and a novella, this vignette started strong then fizzled out. The narrator's voice is wicked and funny and oozes youthfulness, but the story was incomplete and unsatisfying. The characters also use a lot of language in the "casual bigotry" category - referring to large pumps as being in "tranny sizes," calling things "retarded," and so on - which mirrors how most 24 year olds speak to each other, but some readers might want to give it a wide berth because of it.

This was a cute short story of a girl who is dumped by her boyfriend only to find out he was no good to start with & her male friend finally gets the courage to go for it. He's liked her for a long time & hadn't had the nerve.

I just love the slang & the English humor. I would definitely read more from this author.

Aw, this was kinda cute. Random thoughts as I was reading:

Haha, these Brits sure talk funny; I love their expressions. This book is pretty good! :)

Hey! There's a pretty hot love scene in it. :P

Oh, friends to lovers, one of my favourite tropes. :D

With a HFN ending - which was ok, 'cause these crazy kids are all of, like, 23 years old. ;D

But the heroine is an insecure, virtually virginal, unaware-of-her-own-beauty wedding cake saleswoman. I'm getting tired of her - she's EVERYWHERE. :|

And why do I keep picturing Robert Pattinson as the Hero? >:\

Why can't I keep their names straight? Christian, Bella,Anastasia, Edward. Damn. Linc and Bailey. :(

TWILIGHT, get the f**k out of my romances!!!

All kidding aside, this wasn't really like Twilight, but the heroine did remind me of that vapid twit, Bella. Or maybe it was the first person narration. Or maybe, that I got burned by the 50 Shades trilogy. The end result is the same - I see Twilight in almost every self-pub contemporary romance I've read in the past little while.

I did like it, though - and for those of you who want to say it's P2P fanfic? Go to Lucy Morgan's blog - http://www.goodreads.com/author_blog_...

I just went and read it, and edited my review. Sorry, Ms. Morgan. :)

I should have gone with my first impression. The blurb told me that this wasn't my kind of book - if only I'd listened. Damn those Kindle freebies!

The writer's voice didn't work for me (as I suspected would be the case) - it was a bit too 'young'. I liked the idea of the heroine living platonically with a couple of guys, but as it turns out, there were too many characters for such a short story, so the only one you ever got a good sense of was the protagonist. I didn't feel like I knew the first thing about the other characters. In fact, I felt like I knew the rat better.

I also ended up removing this one from my 'erotic romance' shelf - sure there was a descriptive sex scene, but no more that you would find in many mainstream books. Nice cover - shame it doesn't match the story.

I loved this book, it's a super fast read (and currently a kindle freebie). I related to this book on many levels, one being the aspect of male roomies, it's a dynamic that can only really be touched on by someone who has actually lived with guy friends (without other girls around as buffers).
"Chan was Olly's girlfriend. He called her his Hentai Princess after some weirdo Japanese porn. Tentacles we're involved. Never google it."
Oh yes, the things you find out about boys when you live with them...I was cracking up when I read this because I was unduly exposed to some tentacle porn by one of my roommates when I was 18/19 and have never been able to forget it.

This book, as short as it was, had a very charismatic prose.
"I beamed at him. 'Even if you did take advantage.'
'what? I bought candles! And wine. And How To Train Your Dragon on DVD.'
'Really?' I scowled. 'Why are we wasting time with the sex?'
He glanced over the top of my head at the TV. 'okay. Okay. I'll put it on. But you have to promise to stay naked.'
I gazed up at my new Linc-shaped man-flesh, all flame-soaked and lovely in the shadows, and gave him an indulgent, tongue-laced kiss. 'I can mange that.'
And I did.
Dragons and orgasms. The boy knew how to treat a girl."

The author sounds like someone I could get along with famously over a few drinks and a side of fuck-yeah fries.
"I'm not going to tell you that it was easy. I mean it'd been a week since I broke up with a guy who not only chewed my heart up and spat it out, but slowly re-ingested it so he could shit it on to crackers and feed it to parrots with attachment issues."

So 4.5 stars on this one, one of the best freebie shorts I've downloaded. The one thing I was not as fond of was the YouTube fame of her roommates, it felt depthless and pointless without more explanation, seemed more of a filler than anything and didn't add much at all to the story.

I will definitely be downloading Lucy V. Morgan's first book in her erotic series CHAIRMAN OF THE WHORED. The first line of the description being "WARNING: Contains clever lawyers with a penchant for violence, and an alter-ego like Tinkerbell on meth." Put Tinkerbell on meth and I'll plop out $5.99 for a kindle book any day<3 (though, who am I kidding...screw Tinkerbell, just mention the word meth and I'm game) ;)

This was a cute story about a gal(Bailey) who was dumped by her cheating ex (Craig the; and I quote-"Tosspot, wank-bastard nonce captain") ...Is there any other way? Seriously?!!

This gal has two male roommates (Olly & Tom) and one pseudo-male roommate (Linc). Dude is always over. They give her the male version of pep talks after a break up. Not all that good, but entertainingly funny! All except for Linc. Oh did I mention, Bailey works at a Bridal shop baking wedding cakes?! Yuuup! You got it, major torture post-break up for the poor thing. ::sniff:: ok, moving along; her roommate (Olly)and Linc also make videos for Youtube about Werewolves in tutu's and sing these crass random songs, all making fun of Bailey's Ex-Craig, but indirectly, so that its not obvious to anyone other than them. Their Youtube videos are becoming viral and getting more and more famous. Linc is hoping for a big break so that he doesn't have to work anymore and just focus on making those vid's. Meanwhile, Bailey is hanging out more with Linc, he has become her sounding board, a shoulder for her, and just there. They are beginning to grow closer together and well Linc finally makes his move-although suttle at first. Bailey catches on, when she does, she realizes that Linc has taken Craig's place in her heart and she is even happier than with Craig. In and out of the bedroom ;)

This story was hella funny and (yup, you got it!) Entertaining!! I liked the characters geniunity and down to earth-ness. Although, rough around the edges I liked the whole two male psyche to the one female dilemma dynamic. It brought something differently refreshing to the table. I liked how they let her know how things really were, how protective they were of Bailey, but how they didn't let her stew for too long. The blunt guy truth with the shoulder shrug and get over it already tone! :) Nice!

Lucy V. Morgan, I really liked it. The intimate scenes were steamy and REALLY well written with awesome detail Linc may have been a shy gorgeous guy, but honey in the bedroom he is delish!

Lucy V. Morgan, Beautiful Mess (No publisher given, 2011)

First off: okay, self-publishers, I've had it. I'm going to start taking pieces of stars off when you don't supply complete information with your releases. I mention this here (since this is one of, oh, ten or fifteen I'll be reviewing in this batch that qualify) because it's my favorite of the Kindle shorts I've read in this batch, and thus points off are going to be most notable here. When a review goes from one star to half a star, who's gonna notice? When you drop from 4 to 3.5, on the other hand...

As far as the story itself goes, like most kindle-short romances, it's nothing necessarily out of the ordinary or away from formula; when you're reading stories like that (which is, when it comes down to it, at least 95% of the contemporary romances I've read), the tipping point is going to be the skill of the writer. Lucy Morgan's got it. Realistic characters in realistic situations, with a good deal of amusement involved, a recent bad breakup on which characters can vent, and a new flame that is, if a little on the predictable side, at least a touch more plausible for a straight romance than the other book I've reviewed recently with this same basic setup (tomboy living with two males), Mari Carr's Tequila Truth. (That said, Carr's romance is not straight at all, it's bent in all sorts of delicious ways.) Good stuff. Now if only the product description included all the stuff it needs to (publisher, page count, blah blah blah). *** ½

I'm not sure what this title is about -- it makes the story sound angsty, and it's not. It's a breezy first person tale about of how wedding cake decorator Bailey was dumped and then discovered a better guy for her right under her nose, amidst the throng of her male friends.

I liked the deliciously awkward hero (and have no idea where the comparisons to "Twilight" from other reviewers are coming from) but found the general tone kind of off-putting; the characters regularly make gay jokes and call each other "retard." It didn't really offend me, since it's obviously not meant maliciously, but it made them seem very immature and shallow, and that put a damper on the romance.

I had this on my iBooks and one morning I started reading it. It's about a girl called Bailey who has two male friends which laugh about her ex-boyfriend, saying that he couldn't satisfy Bailey. So guess what... So yeah. Cliche-ic story. I didn't liked it but it wasn't the worst either.

Alert! This book is full of swear words and I’m mentioning some of them here so be warned if you are sensitive to bad language.

When I downloaded this free short story I had no idea it was exactly what I needed to cheer me up! I adore this book since my sense of humour leans towards the silly and ridiculous elements found in everyday life. So it’s no surprise that Bailey’s friends, Tom, Linc and Olly, the hilarious, crazy and over protective men are my favourite characters. Especially since they know just how to cheer up Bailey with immature but ridiculously funny British insults all aimed at her ex, evil Craig...

A.K.A: 'the tosspot wank bastard fucktarded nonce captain'...'the guys who not only chewed my heart up and spat it out, but slowly re-ingested it so he could shit it on to crackers and feed it to parrots with attachment issues'… OMG that line made me laugh until i cried.

Bailey’s character is a little whiney at times but that is understandable after being cheated on and dumped by her long-term boyfriend, so she is entitled to mope around and raid her fridge eating whatever she can lay her hands on. Working in a wedding cake shop and serving a seriously annoying and ridiculously lovey-dovey couple only adds to her aggravation and makes her feel even crappier about her sad love life while adding a comic element to the story.

Bailey’s hysterical self-pep talk before facing the dreaded couple goes like this… ‘I am not a gnome of self-pity. I’m an imp of pure ass-kickery. A fuck-yeah fairy.’

Afraid that Bailey is being eaten by ‘the gnomes of self-pity’ the guys (all of who are hot YouTube celebrities famous for their parody specific songs) decide to cheer Bailey up by getting her stinking drunk on Jaegermeister and teasing out her deepest darkest secret....Bailey confesses she never had the big O! The Guys decide to cook up the perfect revenge against Craig and Linc, the shy-but-gorgeous friend (and Bailey’s long-term admirer) is ready, willing and eager to help solve her little problem.

I love the guys’ wicked behaviour and sense of humour and how they try to use this to shock and tease Bailey out of her misery…
“I am not freak,” I muttered. “And I’m not that hairy either,”
“Not that hair is bad,” said Olly quickly, “just that nobody wants friction burns. Or to suddenly be transported to the Mongolian Wilderness when she takes her nickers off.”

I couldn’t help giggling at this exchange between Bailey and the guys’ and well… the Mongolian wilderness will never be the same or sound innocent in my mind ever again. What have you done Ms Morgan?

Oh yeah, and let’s not even mention the ridiculously funny lines associated with the fairy, gnome, and the parrot and …*cough*… evil Craig and the donkey! This combination is starting to sound disturbing and highly illegal or what.

I really enjoyed reading this quick pick-me-up short story with realistic HFN ending.

Beautiful Mess is the first story I’ve read of Lucy Morgan’s, tiding me over until her novel Chairman of the Whored is released. After reading this, I look forward to reading Chairman even more.

Bailey has just been dumped by her evil boyfriend, Craig, and her flatmates Tom and Olly, along with their friend Linc, take it upon themselves to cheer her up with pizza and a bottle of Jagermeister. The alcohol leads Bailey to admit under duress that she’s never had an orgasm during sex before, a confession that sticks with Linc long after the night’s over. So when Valentine’s Day rolls around, he decides to help Bailey cross that problem off her Never-Have-I-Ever list and obliterate all thought of Craig for good.

I’m happy that the author’s real life humor and keep-it-realness have worked their way into this sexy novella. I don’t identify with young, “Sex and the City”-type characters with their chick-lit jobs in marketing and advertising who have nothing down-to-earth, ridiculous, unfeminine or hilarious to say or do. So in Beautiful Mess, it was refreshing to read about characters in their twenties accurately depicted: drinking too much Jager, striving to become YouTube sensations, owning pet rats and calling their Asian friend a “Hentai
princess” with all the affection in the world. It’s obvious that the author had fun writing this story, and the sex scene? Completely hot. Morgan provides just the right amount of description and dirty talk and leaves readers totally satisfied.

I only wish the story had lasted longer—I thought the buildup between Bailey and Linc could’ve been extended, but being what it is, this works for a novella, and better yet—it’s completely free on Amazon. I can’t wait to read more from Morgan—and someday hear how the story’s “Very Slutty Werewolf” song goes!

This is short novella is a fun, sweet and sexy little romance sure to entertain you for an hour or so. Bailey Frost is a young 20-something working at a wedding cake shop. She's a sweet girl with a great group of best friends who happen to be guys--Tom and Olly who also happen to be her housemates, and their shy partner in crime, Linc. When Bailey is tragically dumped by a cheating boyfriend, these guys show Bailey nothing but brotherly love and support to help her get over her ex. After a strong drink with the guys, Bailey confesses that she's never had an orgasm with a man. Little does she know that Linc has been pining for her for some time, so when they both find themselves without plans on Valentine's Day, he comes up with a plan to make sure Bailey finally gets the bit O she's long deserved.

The friendships are what really pull this short story together--right down to the friends to lovers romance between Bailey and Linc. After her sad history of ending up with selfish boyfriends, it's about time she be seduced by a sexy, caring guy who puts her pleasure first!

This short story is quite the quickie, but the British wit and all around fun banter and caring friendship between these characters make it a just enough to whet your appetite for more stories from this author. I'll be keeping my eye out for Tom and Olly's stories for sure.

why the hell is this rated so high?!

I mean it was just sorta....Meh...an okay read, I guess....hmm... i didn't hate it....I did like the premise...it sorta reminded me of that show < a href="http://www.fox.com/new-girl/"> New Girl but it didn't really deliver....

it's written in first person, which I wasn't expecting....if it hadn't been so short, I'd have been more annoyed by that fact. Add to that, for such a short length, there were a few too many characters!

And a lot of the story seemed like filler, rather then an  actual plot....honestly? I was kinda bored for most of it....

and the one bit that really bugged me was that Ms Morgan kept using the word 'ow' when she meant, (I think) 'oh'....ow is the sound you make when you get hurt, usually, in my case at least, followed by a litany of curses,....so coming across it,  in the midst of a (vanilla) sex scene just confuses things, IMO.

I loved this story. I thought it was absolutely hilarious! It's about Bailey, who gets dumped by her cheating boyfriend Craig. Bailey is very sad about the breakup but luckily she has 3 great guy friends to help her through it. One of them, Linc, tries to help her in more ways than one. :) I thought that this was a great story but this was WAY too short! It would have been great as a full length novel. However, this story still packed a little punch and was able to entertain me throughout it. I just wish that Bailey got a little more revenge on Craig...I mean nothing really happened to him. It says in the blurb that she gets revenge but nothing bad (like having his penis fall off) even happened to him! All in all though, a great short read. Highly recommend!

This was another book that Kelly suggested I download (and did). It was so, so worth it. I think it was the "cunt whisperer" mention that truly sold me. Beyond the sex (it was nice!), I liked the relationship between Bailey and her roommates. I could have spent plenty of drunken evenings with them. And no, not like that. Maybe. The humor was a bit off the wall, and completely perfect.

Beautiful Mess was a free Kindle book I downloaded on September 5, 2012 for the Why Buy the Cow? challenge.

Holy crap, I love this book. Found it while browsing aimlessly on Smashwords a week ago, and I've already read it three times.

Wickedly funny and and wildly romantic, PLUS my all-time favorite "friends-to-lovers" plot. *happy sigh*

Unfortunately, I think this is another one where the "erotica" tag (which I am fully in favor of) might distract the smut-shy romance readers. It may be graphic, but THIS IS A ROMANCE. Maybe I'll start a Listopia list....

Short story.

Bailey's boyfriend has broken up with her and she's crying all over the place. Her male roommates are trying to cheer her up along with Linc, their friend who hangs out with them but actually doesn't live in the apartment. Linc invites her over to the house to escape the noises of her roommates' Valentines celebrations and she finds out he's had a crush on her for years. Really cute story.

Cute. Well written novella in that there were no info dumps. Lots of background delivered organically.

Low score is for use of derogatory terms that I am uncomfortable reading, and they were in large volumes.
I think with minimum effort she could have come up with adorable derogatory terms (she did it quite often) that didn't use offensively stereotypical terms.

Not interested in the follow-up books.

This story was adorable. Really short, no drama whatsoever, just one girl being consoled by her three best friends after her boyfriend dumps her. A group of friends that happen to be a rambunctious group of guys. It's shorter than a novella so you can read it in less than an hour. The heroine has pet rats, the romance is cute, the bromance even cuter and the sex hot. It's also free on Smashwords, Amazon and I assume the other e-retailers. I hope all the guys get their own story.

This one was my favorite, because it was filled with humor. Bailey is recovering from a breakup from her 2 year invested boyfriend. Her gang of merry not-so-gentlemen try to pull her out of her misery, especially when they find out the bloke didn’t give her one orgasm in two years. Laughter, Love and Orgasm to Order.

The first book in the Bailey Boys series. This was a cute little story but way too short. I'd have given it 4 stars if it had not been as short as it was. Bailey's boyfriend of two years breaks up with her and she gets drunk with her men friends and spills the beans about her sex life. I loved the characters - Bailey, Linc, Tom, and Olly. Lots of humor but as I stated before - too short!

I enjoyed this short read, it was funny, although it was very british, so there were too many references that I didn't catch immediately, but the characters were good.

Bailey was fun to read, she was unfortunate in love... and sex, but she found what she was looking for in the less expected person, that was sweet to read.
