Adult’s comics!

If you like comics and spooky stories, this series is for you! I love the part about people being trapped in the paintings and how one person accidentally cried and freed the one trapped, but threw herself in the paintings—magical! It’s a very cool read!

Poor Laura, she has no choice but to accept her new life in the mysterious town of Deluge, where she now lives with her mother. In Ghosts: The People That Melt in the Rain #2, author Carolyn Watson-Dubisch throws Laura into a world where the strange becomes the everyday. From the moment she arrives, uncanny things begin to unfold. A neighborhood cat vanishes, yet its muddy paw prints persist. A woman trapped within a painting at the local library suddenly pleads for Laura’s help. The girl, overwhelmed by emotion, begins to cry, and with those tears, everything changes. What follows is a sharp twist in Laura’s story, one that pulls the reader into a world both eerie and imaginative.

Ghosts channels the nostalgic spirit of Goosebumps, where strange events unfold in a small town, but with a twist: everyone in this town already knows it’s strange. Rather than relying on mystery alone, the book leans into its own eccentricity, crafting a world where the bizarre is baked into everyday life. The inclusion of a “Previously in” chapter smartly reorients readers before plunging into the next segment, maintaining narrative momentum while making space for new developments.

The Traveling Show stands out as delightfully uncanny. Its peculiar charm held my curiosity, especially as the plot zeroed in on Laura and her fate. Her storyline, filled with quiet tension and unfolding mystery, made it impossible to look away. The illustrations are striking and evocative and add dramatic flair to every beat of the story, making emotional moments land with even more impact.

Chapter 4, The Storm, wraps the reader in an eerie atmosphere. Its sense of dread is palpable, yet subtle. From the first panel to the last, I was fully engaged. It’s easy to imagine kids gathered in dimly lit rooms, whispering this story aloud for maximum chills. Watson-Dubisch crafts a tale steeped in mood and originality. Her characters are vivid, multifaceted, and compelling. The pacing moves swiftly, keeping tension high.

Ghosts: The People That Melt in the Rain #2 is a captivating graphic novel that offers a mysterious, emotional, and highly original experience. With its memorable characters, compelling plot, and stunning illustrations, it promises to enchant readers well beyond its target age group.

Ghosts by Carolyn Watson Dubisch is an eerie, beautifully illustrated graphic novel that pulls readers into a world where the line between the living and the dead blurs. Dubisch masterfully creates an atmosphere dripping with mystery and melancholy, capturing the haunting beauty of ghostly encounters while keeping the story heartfelt and emotionally resonant.

The characters are well-crafted, each carrying their own emotional weight and unique voice, making it easy to become invested in their stories. The illustrations are stunning, with shadowy tones and intricate details that enhance the chilling yet mesmerizing vibe of the narrative.

While the pacing occasionally falters in the middle, and some plot points could have used a little more fleshing out, the overall experience is captivating. Dubisch strikes a delicate balance between fear and empathy, crafting a story that lingers long after the final page.

If you're a fan of ghost stories with emotional depth and beautiful artwork, Ghosts is a must-read. It’s not just a story about spirits—it’s about what haunts us, both literally and figuratively.

Ghosts is the second book in The People That Melt In The Rain Series. This comic book series is mysterious, captivating, unique, imaginative, suspenseful, unpredictable, and fun! I was so excited to read Ghosts after being left in suspense......but this book ends just as mysteriously. This series is a wild ride I am completely transfixed by. While some questions were answered and working theories came to light, new twists arose which have kept me guessing. I highly recommend reading this series sequentially (Deluge is the first book). These books are something you have to experience for yourself. No description can adequately convey the bizzare mysteries this series holds.

This captivating story takes readers on a surreal journey through art and time, but it's the brilliant and unique artwork that truly sets it apart. When Laura is mysteriously transported into a painting from her school library, she finds herself in a familiar yet strangely altered Seattle.
The novel blends mystery, fantasy, and time travel in a compelling way, but the standout element is the artwork-vivid, imaginative, and integral to the storytelling. A visually stunning and immersive read that lingers long after the final page.

Great Illustrations

This is a fascinating comic book format novel. The illustrations are really fine and detailed. The plot is just eerie enough to give a child some shivers without being too over the top.
This was a great palate cleanser between lengthier and more in depth reads.
I'd recommend it.

A Haunting and Clever Sequel to a Quirky Comic Series

The second issue of The People That Melt in the Rain dives even deeper into the eerie world introduced in Deluge. This time, the story turns toward the ghosts who linger in the cursed town — restless, strange, and not always what they seem. Carolyn Watson-Dubisch balances mystery with subtle humor, creating a tale that is as unsettling as it is intriguing.

The pacing in this issue slows just enough to let readers sit with the atmosphere, uncovering more about the town’s strange history and the people caught up in it. It’s a clever shift, allowing the series to expand beyond its unusual premise and explore the emotional undercurrents of fear, loss, and resilience.

Mike Dubisch’s art once again sets the mood with heavy shadows, expressive faces, and just the right touch of the surreal. His panels capture the haunted, claustrophobic feeling of the town while still leaving room for wit and irony. Together, the writing and artwork make for a comic that’s odd, memorable, and full of personality.

This second issue proves that the series isn’t just about a quirky curse — it’s about how people (and ghosts) live with it.

This graphic novel gave me serious Coraline vibes throughout the whole graphic novel. I was a little bored at points but it eventually started to pick up the weirdness and that's where it became interesting and I wanted to know the why of the plot. However this is a middle grade graphic novel so I wasn't going into it expecting it to be a WOW factor for me, but I was definitely reeled in by it's weird vibes.
This did end with a cliffhanger, not sure if there is another one coming out to finish out the story or not, if not then be prepared that in my opinion it did not close out the story.

Wild!
The second part of The People that Melt in the Rain series leaves you wanting more. The mystery continues as they try to rescue Laura from the painting. There's also the cat that reappears in the storyline, which adds an extra little twist. An interesting and special way to develop the story with a unique style of illustrations to compliment the journey.

It was a different read for me. I am trying graphic novels for the first time and this is my first book. It was able to track with the story but I walked away saying, I don't get it.
