Bad Boyfriends, Inc. #3

Terribly Tristan

Rate this book
Bad Boyfriends, Inc—when you can’t find a good boyfriend, why not hire a bad one instead?

Leo Fisher is the outward picture of respectability, just like his parents raised him to be. But when he inherits a crumbling terrace house from his great-uncle, he also inherits a tenant who turns his world upside down. Tristan is brazen, gorgeous, experienced and utterly fabulous. He’s everything Leo is not—so why is Leo drawn to him? Leo has always made the right choices—the sensible choices—yet here he is, hooking up with his tenant, who’s a rent boy.

Tristan Montague is not a rent boy. Not exactly. He’s a bad boyfriend. For a fee, he’ll turn any date into the kind of disaster that will have his client’s unsuspecting parents begging them to date anyone but him. Boyfriending for cash is fun—but for real? No, thanks. Tristan doesn’t do relationships. Except when he meets his cute, awkward landlord Leo, Tristan finds himself rethinking his No Relationships rule. But in order for Leo to take a stand against his overbearing parents, Tristan will need to play the bad boyfriend one last time—and it’s going to have to be spectacular.

I like to tell stories. Mostly with hot guys and happily ever afters. They gotta work for it though. No free lunches on my watch.

4,5 stars rounded up to 5. Wow..It’s been a long time since I’ve rated 5 stars a romcom (lately most of them are too easy, too light , too porny or too shallow) but this was totally worth it. I have no words to express how much I loved Tristan , he is just awesome! Leo was cute and interesting too and they were amazing together. The humor was good and smart, the banter and dialogue interesting and very entertaining , the side characters were a hoot and the smut was a combination between hot , sweet and sensual . After reading the first book in the series and finding it just cute I didn’t bother with the second one and I would have skipped this one too but the reviews convinced me to try it and boy, it was so enjoyable. I took away half a star because the scene at the party towards the end was way OTT and caricatured but the twist was a surprise I hadn’t seen coming and it was really entertaining. Loved it.

The most fun I had with a book in a very long time. Tristan was incredibly and scandalously hilarious. I laughed so much that now I have stomach ache. The romance was adorable. And I really really loved all the characters.

I have enjoyed this entire series so much!

Every character felt real and even though the Bad Boyfriend business was so OTT, I could actually picture it all really happening exactly as described 😂

I was super excited when I learned that it was Tristan's turn at taking over Bad Boyfriend Inc because that meant he was getting his own book. As the resident man whore of the dilapidated house he shared with Jack and Harry, I was intrigued how everything was going to play out. There were more surprises than I expected about Tristan by the end of his story. Like Leo, I saw the way Tristan behaved and made assumptions about him. It turns out we were both wrong. I mean Tristan is still his snarky, unapologetic self who likes to roam around the apartment stark naked, but he is also so much more.

It was amazing seeing buttoned up Leo begin to come out of his shell with Tristan by his side. He had so much growth as a character in the book and I cheered along with Tristan every time he did something out of his comfort zone. Then there was the steam. Holy moly were these two on fire. They could also be incredibly sweet. For his first time being in a committed relationship Tristan sure aced the whole boyfriend thing. He also had me laughing out loud too many times to count.

" So I should tell the guy to fuck off?"
"He's still there?"
"No I already told him to fuck off...I just thought I should check if that was the right thing to do."

The ending was absolutely hilarious and ended up being even more so when you finally come into the know. I swear that will make sense when you read it. The epilogue in this one sort of tied everything together perfectly so I am guessing this is the last one in the series. Definitely recommend.

3,5 stars.
Sweet story, but too OTT for me to connect and really feel with the characters.
There was no drama, some miscommunication in the first half of the book, the story was about two vastly different guys who both almost immediately knew they wanted to be together, and were perfect for each other... this was basically a sparkling, OTT, queer feel good romance.
I loved the side character Miss O' Jenny.

A Joyfully Jay review.

5 stars

Terribly Tristan is the third book in the Bad Boyfriends, Inc. series, and I think it’s the funniest. The conversations between Leo and Tristan are clever, sharp, and — above all — kind. Leo’s struggles to accept Tristan for who he is, even with being a rent boy, are earnest and heartfelt. And Tristan’s reaction when he realizes that that’s what Leo thought he was doing? There’s no slut shaming in this book, no looking down on sex workers, which I appreciated. There are, however, some gentle jabs at Leo’s rather unaccepting parents who don’t mind their son being gay so long as it’s quiet, polite, and very private. The idea of Leo bringing a guest — a male guest — to a party has them uneasy, but hey, it saves them having to gently find a way to bring up the fact that Leo’s gay in conversation as Leo’s dad tries to enter politics.

All in all, this is a wonderful end to the series. In my opinion, it’s also the strongest of the three books, and I really loved the buildup of friendship as well as romance. It’s definitely worth the read, and I hope — if you give it a try — you enjoy it, too.

While I'm sad to see this series end, I do think that ending here is the high note it should end on.
I loved Tristan and Leo's love story. Both showed a lot of growth and it was great to tie in some things with the house and other couples.
There was 1 part later on where the reader is in on the joke, if you've figured it out, but another where I was still shocked (in a good way).
This book had me laughing out loud and was very sweet at the same time.

I love Jenny aka Kev, I really enjoyed her spirit and the the different dimensions of her character. She wasn't just one 'type' of person yes, she's a drag queen but she's also a really great accountant when she's not in drag. I loved the full circle moment on chapter 19. When Leo and his parents figured out who's Tristan's parents are and the whole debacle Tristan did. I absolutely loved that scene so much. This book was really enjoyable to read, it made me smile and feel good about reading it. I'm glad Jimmy was able to help pull Leo away from his controlling parents even though he wasn't there to do it himself. Jimmy was playing match maker from up above, I really enjoyed the characters. This wasn't just about two characters hooking up, it was about friendship and persevering, and loss, and unexpected surprises. Embracing the part of yourself that you had to lock away, when you find the right people you don't have to hide that part of you anymore. That's what Tristan did for Leo, encouraged him to embrace all of the parts of himself that he had to hide before. He could be whoever he wanted to be and do whatever he wanted. And what is it that he wants? To keep the house, keep and run the shop, and most importantly be with Tristan.

I really enjoyed this book, good writing, this had a really good pacing. Not too slow not too fast, it was just right. Good attention to detail, each character had a reason to be in this story.

Overall really good, I definitely recommend this.

*I received an early copy of this book and this is my honest review.*

This has the Bad Boyfriend date to end all bad boyfriend dates. What a freaking hoot! A wonderfully squidgy, smoodgey, hilarious, fun-filled, adorable, drama free read with wonderful characters, primary and secondary, oh, and some buy a clue parents that are outshone by the we have a clue parents. A lovely little homage to Uncle Jimmy, and the original 78ers. *Ahhhh. Happy sighs

Terribly Tristan is the third in Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey’s excellent Bad Boyfriends series, about guys who are willing to be hired to provide a truly terrible date experience so that the client can get well meaning parents off their backs or whatnot.

Tristan Montague has always been a fan of one-and-done. He’s a sparkling social butterfly, and has never felt the need to alter the carefree style that works perfectly for him. When he meets the carefully conservative, very handsome Leo Fisher at a wake and accidentally calls him the deceased’s boy toy, he doesn’t expect to lay eyes on him again.

Tris and Leo’s gently unfolding relationship is lovely. Each brings out the best in the other, and it’s easy to see how truly well suited they are despite all initial appearances. Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey write with truth and humor, and their characters grow to be themselves in the best ways.

While Terribly Tristan stands well alone, fans of the series will enjoy catching up with characters from previous books and the very satisfying happy ending!

4.5 I just really like Lisa Henry's writing. Add in Sarah Honey's writing style and the book was a winner. I saw this and the other books in the series when they first came out, but chose not to read them as fake boyfriend/fake wedding date is a trope that I dislike. And, in this series, it is not just a plot point, it is the plot!

Maybe not in this one as Tristan, who has now taken over the bad boyfriend business from Harry, does not use that skill with Leo. He meets cute with Leo at a funeral,(that doesn't sound right), and from there Tristan proceeds to fall in love with Leo, when love and commitment are not in Tristan's emotional lexicon.

I liked this couple and, surprisingly, I liked Harry and Jack more for the first part of the book. Oh, Harry was so sweet and they both were charming. I liked their devotion to one another. They are Tristan's roommates in a ratty old house. Which is now owned by Leo, who has inherited it and a sex shop from his extremely out and proud uncle, who has passed away.

The uncle might not be a physical character in the book, but he is definitely present in many scenes as his gift to Leo of the house and business and all of the fond reminiscences from other characters help Leo to develop a backbone with his overwhelming parents who have made Leo much too shy and retiring and hesitant in living a gay life.

Tristan, on the other hand, is fabulous. He is beautiful and sexy, masculine with that hot femme side. I loved how he went around either nude or after meeting Leo, with a silk kimono. Tristan is very attractively described. His was an excellent character, as are all of the characters.
The sex between Leo and Henry was almost insta and it worked. Leo surprised Tristan with his dominant side and that made the sexy times sexier.

The half a star in my rating is from the country club scene where it felt like Tristan was a bit too 'in your face' with Leo's parents. He was doing his 'bad boyfriend' thing and it felt unkind in places. I guess that is the premise of the books, though.

The POV is from both characters and the writing of their hopes and fears and motivations was very well done. This was a thoroughly good read.

2.5 upgraded? I think this series lost its appeal for me.
It's still funny and fluffy but not as good as the previous books.
There is only one bad-boyfriend scene we get to experience (it's a little over the top and I wasn't a fan of THE plot twist). I don't know if there are more books planned, but that's it for me 🤷🏻‍♀️

I was so looking forward to reading this one, I was so happy to find out Tristan would be final in the series, and his story certainly didn't disappoint at all. I am so sad the series is ending because it's been such good fun, but it certainly goes out on the highest of highs.

I have loved this whole Bad Boyfriends series, it's just been so much fun and each one different in its' own way, I've loved seeing how each one did it differently. Tristan is just such a wonderfully laid back, unapologetic force of nature I wondered who on earth would end up with him. Meeting Leo and seeing him blossom and come to life during the story was an absolute joy. This book is so full of mirth, positivity and Tristan's utter joy for life that I loved every single minute of it.

Leo and Tristan's story was so good, and I loved how it tied in with the other couples from the previous books, and all centred around the house too - which has been central to the whole series so far.

I laughed out loud more than once reading this, it's the perfect end to what has been a great fun series.

I received an ARC and this is my honest review.

Having a side job as a bad date to pay for "pocket money" whilst at Uni is a fabulous idea and I only wish I could have done it. If this is a real job some entrepreneurial college kid makes happen, then I am quite impressed. Going into this story, I figured I would enjoy it. There are ups and downs and I am not sure I fully liked everything that happened here, but it was a wild and fun ride.

Terribly Tristan is the best yet!

I adored Ambrose, and loved Harry, but Tristan stole my heart! He’s so fantastically secure in who he is and what he wants. Once he decided what he wanted was Leo, I don’t think Leo stood a chance (not that Leo put up a fight!). Their romance was equal parts hot and sweet. There was a potential misunderstanding that worried me for a bit, but I loved how it was resolved. And then that ending!! OMG!! I screamed! It was more perfect than I ever could have imagined. As always with this writing duo, they delivered a fun, sexy read that I didn’t want to end. This book is an absolutely Must Read, and would work as a standalone, but you really should read the rest of the series because Ambrose, Liam, Harry, and Jack are fantastic as well.

I am so sad this series is ending!!!! I think this was my favorite sof the 3 books. Tristan was such a flamboyant and extra character, I absolutely adored him. It was fascinating to see him go from the slutty butterfly, to the one who actually wants to initiate the commitment with Leo. Poor Leo, his family is terrible! He gets his own wonderful transformation, from a repressed and shy "right kind of gay" to the outgoing and supportive sex store owner! These two don't work at all in theory, but are just perfect together. I laughed so hard I cried in multiple places. And the chemistry is off the charts!

What a cute story! Terribly Tristan is the third book in Lisa Henry and Sarah Honey's Bad Boyfriends series. It is the first book in the series I've read and I had no trouble. I've actually already downloaded Horribly Harry so I'll find out if they're connected or if they stand alone lol.

The characters are adorable! And the relationship between Tristan and Leo is so much fun to watch develop.

The audio version of Terribly Tristan is beautifully performed by Grant Cartwright.

This story brings Leo and Tristan together in a unique way. These two could not be more different with their outer personalities. It was absolutely hilarious to watch them interact and all their inner musings about how to react in situations. Tristan pretty much does and says what he pleases, and he does it in quite a snarky way. He is the perfect boyfriend gone wrong. He really turns Leo's sensible lifestyle upside and inside out. Tristan is misunderstood but this kind of by his own doing. I loved how the relationship developed and the real truth about Tristan unfolded. Super sweet and really fun romance.

Terribly Tristan is book three in the Bad Boyfriends, Inc series. Leo has inherited the house from his Uncle Jimmy that Tristan lives in with his friends Jack and Harry. Tristan has taken over the Bad Boyfriends, Inc business. He’s of the mindset one and done. Leo makes him rethink. I glad that Leo was able to get away from his controlling parents! This has been such a fantastic series and I’m sad that it’s ending. Leo and Tristan’s story was sooo freakin good! Overall, a fantastic ending to the series! Well written with pacing that flowed!!

2.5 stars.

This had its cute moments but overall was too improbable and too fluffy. Fluffy not in the sweet and fun way but rather insubstantial and weak. Tristan is a huge player who never entertains the idea of a second hook-up, let alone a date, and the way he fell so quickly and wholeheartedly for Leo without knowing hardly anything about him didn’t work for me. An author has to really sell me on this kind of thing, make it believable that a character who has always happily and rigorously played the field is suddenly struck dumb by Cupid’s arrow, and all flirting and philandering suddenly cease. Alas, the author fell completely short here. Leo was a bit of a timid mouse, uptight and rigid, and for Tristan to fall ass over kettle for him? Eh, no.

Just a couple other random thoughts: the scene where Tristan and Leo go to the fundraiser w Leo’s parents made me full-on cringe. That entire scene was nothing but secondhand embarrassment. Why didn't he just grow a backbone and talk to his parents? Also, the author did a bang-up job of portraying Tristan as fluffy and flighty and careless and then at 84%, . What? Sorry, the airhead pitch had worked too well by then and I absolutely could not find any believability in that. Finally, not at all a fan of the cover.

This third book is the best of the three. Tristan, he of the "no repeats", fun-loving, sex-loving, falls unexpectedly for someone who's just perfect for him, i.e. Leo Fisher, a young man who needs to still find his way out from under his parents' thumb.

Lots of giggly moments as Tristan has almost zero filter, but lots of swoony moments too as you get to watch Tristan fall head over heels in love.

Brilliant. Read this!

Tristan Montague is gorgeous, and he knows it. He can bed pretty much any gay guy he wants. So why shouldn’t he? Sleek and self-satisfied as a cat, Tristan believes in enjoying life. He sees himself as a beautiful butterfly, flitting from one man to the next, too enchanted with the delicious variety available to consider repeat performances.

He starts to question his dedication to promiscuity, however, when he meets Leo Fisher, the new owner of the dilapidated terrace house he inhabits with his friends Harry and Jack. Serious, sensible and a bit shy, Leo has inherited the house as well as the Pleasure Palace sex shop from his elderly, flamboyantly gay great-uncle Jimmy. Leo is seriously hot as well as adorably awkward. In addition to an intense (and mutual) physical attraction, Tristan discovers he has all sorts of unaccustomed feelings for Leo. But Leo’s aggressively respectable, upwardly mobile family, who barely acknowledge their son is gay, will never accept a boyfriend as fabulously unconventional as Tristan.

Tristan took over the Bad Boyfriend business when Harry “retired” to be with Jack. It’s just a lark and a bit of ready cash, until he has to use his skills to show Leo’s parents that they can’t dictate their son’s life or stand in the way of his freedom.

Terribly Tristan is another rollicking installment in Lisa Henry’s and Sarah Honey’s delightful Bad Boyfriends, Inc. series. Like the previous books, it’s lively and funny, dramatic and heart-warming. The dialogue is sharp, the characters vividly drawn and the comic situations skillfully realized. I’m impressed at the authors’ ability to spin out this premise into yet another entertaining volume.

Possibly my favorite aspect of this novel was its depiction of the genuine, generous gay sub-culture to which Uncle Jimmy belonged and of which Leo becomes a part. Along with the outrageous drag queen Miss O’Jenny, Jimmy was a pioneer for gay rights, and throughout his life he devoted some of his apparently considerable income to supporting LGBTQ+ youth. The warmth of Jimmy’s friends forms a strong contrast to the rigid, judgmental homophobia of Leo’s family.

The climactic scene, in which Tristan and Leo join the Fisher parents at a charity/political dinner in a swank yacht club, is a tour de force of plot twists. Every page offers another reveal. It’s a bit unbelievable, but it’s so much fun that I was more than willing to go along for the ride.

(That’s all I will say. It would be a shame to spoil the surprises!)

Terribly Tristan is yet another unparalleled success, an intelligent, well-crafted MM romance that will leave you feeling good all over.

Oh my gosh, I’m LOVING all these Bad Boyfriend Inc. books, they’re hilarious!!

Tristan is by far the biggest player of the three bad boyfriends so far but that just makes his fall that much sweeter. Pre-Leo, he LIVED to share with virtually EVERYONE details about his sexual exploits and absolutely REVELED in shocking the parents and grandparents of his clients; I don’t think anyone has ever enjoyed their job so much!

Speaking of sweet, there’s also no one much sweeter than Leo, the uptight great nephew of the guys’ landlord who had passed leaving everything to Leo. Extremely shy and easily flustered, even he wasn’t immune to Tristan’s charm—even when he thought Tristan was a rent boy.

I loved the entire book but I especially loved the little twist at the end with the drama caused by Leo’s snobby parents at the political dinner, it was awesome!!!

If you enjoy a lighthearted read, you’re gonna absolutely love this one but I recommend you start with Awfully Ambrose. They can all be read as standalones but they’re interconnected and so good that you’re gonna want to read all three anyway. 5 stars!!!

I received a copy of this book for free but am voluntarily leaving a review.

Oh this was a fun book! I loved slutterfly Tristan and sweet Leo’s story, full of humour and heat and heartfelt moments of a building connection.
This series has been absolutely fantastic and this addition was no different. I was snickering through most of it, when I wasn’t going awww or getting teeny bit chocked up and teary eyed.
This opposites attract story flows so smoothly, beautifully written and truly fantastic character building. There are obviously some epic bad dates thrown in (I feel like Tristan was born to play that role). It was spicier than the previous two books and this worked well for these two. Their relationship honestly gently built in emotional connection and there was no drama and I absolutely loved the phenomenal ending - something that would have occurred in the natural path of any relationship developing became such a hilarious encounter because cheekily Tristan decided to push the envelope!
I think this one may have been my favourite of the series - definitely recommend checking it out!

This series has been an amazingly fun read and one that I hadn't seen before and what I've loved is that each bad boyfriend takes up the mantle in a completely different way and you see their personalities shine through in their work and in their relationships!

Tristan has been the resident man whore of the terrace, and the latest to take up the Bad Boyfriend mantle and he meets Leo in an unusual place and with an unusual line and the smiles and giggles continued from there! What I love is how both Tristan and Leo blossomed and grew into their relationship throughout the book, without losing themselves or bowing to outside forces...

This book sucked me in - it's well paced with great characters, fun scenes and a beautiful epilogue that ties the whole series together! While you can read the story as standalone, I think you'd miss some of the inside jokes and really, the series is best read in order.

Highly enjoyable!!

I enjoy opposite attracts stories - and this is one of wonderful examples. Tristan is more outlandish, he enjoys his one-night stands, he almost never takes things relationship-related seriously. He just wants to have fun! Leo is more restrained, growing up with parents who tells him to be the "proper" version of gay. So when things collide between them, I am ALL for the ride.

I loved reading Tristan getting a bit uncertain - things with Leo is something really NEW for him. I loved reading Leo getting more ballsy. I adored them both. I think they will be wonderful couple.

Leo's parents are a bit caricaturish bad - but at the same time, MAYBE there's people like them of course. Tristan's parents, on the other hands, are AMAZING!

I’m just not good with manwhores who continue manwhoring after meeting their love interest. Like, I know they’re not together in the beginning, but it’s just shoved in my face all too frequently how often Tristan will screw anything that moves.

This meant that the first 8 chapters didn’t work for me.

That being said, if you manage to push through that or it simply doesn’t bother you, I recon there were some cute moments between Tristan & Leo.

Tristan’s 180 felt a little uncharacteristic, but I did prefer insta-love Tristan more than playboy Tristan, so the change worked for me.

The rest is kinda just fluff? (And smut.) Nothing really happens besides them learning to be a couple together and meeting the parents.

A 2.5 rounded up to a clean 3.0, because sometimes I’m nice.

I wasn't sure what to think of Tristan from the previous books aside from being sex positive and just a ball of snark. Then you get his story, and Leo, the shy man who enters Tris life and makes him see their is more to life than just hook ups. On paper, it's hard to see how these two can work, and yet together, they just do. Leo has the old school type of family that 'accepts' their son being gay but only on their terms. Well, Tris is not that, and he shows Leo what it's like to be free and just have fun with his life. On his last hurrah as a Bad Boyfriend, they get the best sort of revenge possible on Leos, overbearing parents that will have you dying of laughter. A great way to show the true nature of Tristan and not what you have assumed from the previous installments.
