This was very Pretty Woman-ish and I did like it in the beginning. Unfortunately I got bored even before I hit the half-way mark and speed-read through the rest of it only to discover I wasn’t missing out on anything exciting at all.
A somewhat sweet rags to riches story, but sadly didn't convince me.
🟢 A billionaire/sex worker 🟣 Age gap, but isn't specified, one MMC in his 20's, other probably a decade older 🟡 Little size difference (height, bulk) 🟠 Developing love story not believable 🔵 Annoying side characters 🟢 Grammatical errors, awkward dialogues 🟣 I like the guy on the cover, so there's that 🌶️ Definitely expected more smut; t/b but gets to both vers near the end (off-page)
It wasn't the main characters, no - Wren and Alex were sweet, although Alex a bit underdeveloped, but they could've gotten a good story, I saw it happening in the first half of the book.
What didn't work for me was absolutely the writing and the storytelling. There were some grammatical errors and even that wouldn't bother me as much if the dialogues were more appealing. I couldn't feel that fatal connection between Alex and Wren, I actually only liked their first encounter.
Wren is the sex worker and Alex is a billionaire who's unlucky in love. Alex's got a series of failed relationships behind him and when he hires Wren, he's immediately smitten.
It looked like the chemistry was there and I loved Wren's wardrobe - he could be a stylish young gentleman who's set to attend the most opulent parties, but he could also wear a corset and a pink lace thong underneath. I found the contrast appealing, I know many guys like to wear stuff like that and that's my weakness, I never make fun of a guy if he's wearing or wants to wear a lacy underwear or stockings or whatever (and there are quite a few guys like that out there, let me tell you 😀), so that was simply delicious.
But as characters go I felt only Wren was a fully fleshed out character and I'm still wondering about Alex. I don't know him well enough. Alex's transition from being the employer (because Wren was on his payroll after all with all the bonuses and packages) to a man very much in love wasn't believable to me. So many things were going on with these two that when they professed their love for each other - it just surprised me, completely. There wasn't enough build-up, at all. All of a sudden it was understandable Wren would live with Alex and they were an established couple. No, I couldn't feel it at all.
And don't even get me started on Riley. My god, what an awful guy! He was Wren's best friend and when dealing with Riley I honestly felt like I was reading that good old slut shaming that's reserved for m/f books, for women who do sex work. Riley was a bitter asshole who didn't agree with Wren's choice of work, but took the money all the time anyway. I just didn't get the guy. There was no chemistry between them, so it wasn't jealousy. Riley was just a closeted moralising slut-shamer, but he held back and I expected a fall out, but Wren was again too nice about it.
What Riley was saying was stupid, no other way around it.
“Why does it mean so much to you, Wren? I can see you really want to let this man just throw his money at you.”
Well, he's a sex worker, it's how it works? He's got a sugar daddy, everyone knows how the concept works, yet Riley was having problems with Wren's sugar daddy playing his role.
“Wren, I’m sorry. It’s weird, that’s all. Suddenly, dozens of pastries get delivered from a bakery on the other side of town. You’re being picked up in limos and fancy cars. You’re wearing his shirt, which probably cost more than the furniture in the living room.”
Riley's character was obnoxious and I didn't like him one bit. For a moment there I thought Riley was going to meet Tyler, but then Riley's situation as Tyler's had no resolve at all and I wondered why even talk about their predicaments as much if you're going to just leave everything up in the air? Maybe they have their own book and I don't know about it, but from what I've seen, they don't.
And the ridiculous dialogues continue, it's like they're getting worse as the book progresses, like when Wren meets Alex's ex and they have a minor, meaningless altercation, but Wren says
“I live with Alex now. Did you know that? Did you know that not two weeks ago, he personally helped me pack up my panty collection and move it into the closet of his massive master suite? Have you even seen his master suite, or did the bulk of your hookups happen in the living room? Did he care enough to make sure you got off too, or were you just a time filler?”
Why are you so invested? Why are you explaining things to a former hook-up of your ex that you're seeing for the first time and the guy had absolutely no relevance in your ex's life? It was ridiculous, the whole thing. So many side characters and not one of them had a meaningful role, except maybe Caleb.
Wren ends up in Alex's mansion and Alex stands down as a CEO in his company to spend more time with Wren. And that was it. I didn't really see it as a happy ending, I was wondering the whole time where is all this leading? Same goes for their emotional moments, I didn't buy any of it. I couldn't feel that great chemistry they started out with, anywhere. They started acting like a well-versed couple pretty soon on and the story lost that appeal, at least for me.
This was a really sweet book. I liked Wren and Alex. However, it felt like I was reading an MF romance. I’m not really into the panties and corsets for men. I’m not offended, it just doesn’t turn me on. Whatever floats your boat.
Rating: 3.5 Steam: 3 PoV: dual, 1st person Genre: contemporary romance, MM Tropes / tags: client / escort, age gap, found family
I couldn't resist giving this a go when I saw the author marketing it as "Pretty Woman but gay".
Billion Dollar Sugar Baby was pretty much as advertised, a sweet and low angst client / escort romance. It was easy for me to feel for Wren, doing his best to support his found family and making sure they had what they needed. I liked the friendship and history he had with his best friend Riley, even if Riley didn't come off as the best guy in this story.
Alex and Wren's arrangement had a "boyfriend vibe" from the start, and the more time they spent together, the more solid it became. Alex was pretty much instantly smitten with Wren, and it was cute how Wren was completely clueless as to how he had Alex all wrapped around his finger. They were so sweet together and I really enjoyed seeing them get to know each other.
It was an entertaining and romantic read, with some steamy scenes - perfect for when you want something light-hearted and cute!
There’s something beautifully unreal about this story– everything is just a little too good to be true, in all the best ways. Want two protagonists with hearts of gold? Done. A relationship that starts out as a financial transaction but quickly becomes a true emotional investment, for both Alex and Wren? We’ve got that too. A plot that’s a little bit about the feels, a little bit about the heat, and hard to look away from the whole way through? Present and accounted for. Overall, a really enjoyable read.
*I received an ARC of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I usually avoid any book that even mentions billionaires in the blurb. I've read quite a few by this author that I've enjoyed, so I checked this one out. I'm really glad I did.
I loved both Wren and Alex. Wren, a sex worker, did what he had to do to survive, and he never felt any shame over it. He lived with his best friend Riley and Riley's little brother Caleb. Wren's main goal was making sure they had what they needed.
When one of his higher paid clients drops him, Wren freaks out a little. He doesn't care about the man. It's the cash he'll be losing. But the client (Tyler) is friends with Alex, who has had a run of bad luck with guys only hooking up with him for his money and status. Tyler gives Alex Wren's phone number, they get together, and start an exclusive relationship with Alex paying handsomely for that privilege.
Of course, they fall in love. :)
They were so good together. Alex was pretty much perfect. I liked Wren too. I especially liked how he was who he was and didn't give a damn what anybody thought about it. Again, he did what he had to do.
Riley irked me a few times when I felt that he was judging Wren for what he did for a living. I won't even get started on Tyler. I didn't like him in the beginning and I REALLY didn't like him at the end.
Billionaire Dollar Sugar Baby is a sweet and sexy romance in the Pretty Woman vein. There is somewhat of a fantasy vibe as down-on-his luck Wren is swept up in this wonderful, sexy, and romantic relationship with a man who has money to burn and is thrilled to spend it spoiling Wren. The pair have an instant attraction and are super into each other from the start, with a very much “boyfriend” feel to their dynamic right away, even though it starts as a business arrangement between them. Alex is loving and generous and truly cares about Wren and his life. He dotes on Wren and indulges him with gifts, but also listens and wants to learn all about him.
Billion Dollar Sugar Baby by EM Denning. It's the story of Alex and Wren. Alex is a billionaire who keeps getting into relationships with man that want him (mostly) for his money. Wren just wants to look after his found family. When his richest client wants to stop seeing him he asks if he has any rich friends. Alex wants Wren for himself and is willing to pay anything.
I loved their story. It was sweet, sexy, full of feels and very well written. It's Pretty Woman but gay and I loved it!
i’m a sucker for a sugar daddy romance. i know, i know it didn’t start like that and it’s kind of a joke between them, but in my heart it’s a sugar daddy romance.
it was perfect. sure a bit insta-love but who cares??? not me. it was also super hot. like will make you super horny hot.
I had an enjoyable time reading Billion Dollar Sugar Baby by E.M. Denning. It's such a light, sweet and romantic story with enough steamy scenes thrown in. Is it realistic? Far from it so if realism is something you are looking for then this might not be the book for you.
Most of Alex's life he has spent around people who only wants him for his money. He is tired of it. When a friend suggested he met up with a sex worker, he is hesitant. However, loneliness lead him to give the person a chance. Wren is more than what he expected - he is beautiful, fun and exciting and woke up parts of Alex he never expected.
Wren is a sex worker who liked his work. He is doing his best to take care of the family he has known after being kicked out of his home. So when an opportunity was presented to him to be able to do everything he ever wanted with regards to the well-being of his family, he grabbed it. But he never expected to fall in love with Alex - who was more than his money or good looks. He is a kind and quite sweet and a bit lonely.
Wren and Alex are such sweethearts. Though both from two different worlds, these men have a heart of gold that yearns to find that special person they can share their life with. Their chemistry is amazing and both share an understanding of the loneliness that they both carry. The banter and the interaction between them is entertaining. Seeing their romance unfold on page was a joy to read.
Billion Dollar Sugar Baby is well-written, refreshing and pleasurable read with charming characters . This would be a 4.25 stars out of 5 stars for me.
I received an ARC of this book via GRR and I have chosen to publish my fair and honest review.
This was cute! It was exactly what I wanted. Alex was generous, kind, thoughtful, and possessive. Wren was, actually, about the exact same. He was generous with his bff Riley and Riley's brother Caleb. He was kind and thoughtful in his relationship with Alex. He wasn't as possessive as Alex, but he cared for Alex deeply. I enjoyed seeing these two go from a sugar baby relationship to falling in love. I liked that Alex was so possessive over Wren. He was also protective, especially when shit hit the fan. He immediately worried for Wren, Riley, and Caleb over himself. I enjoyed Alex spoiling Wren, who definitely deserved it. I didn't love Wren and Riley fighting, though I get it. Overall, it was an easy and fun read.
Notes: 3/5 spice levels, lingerie, sugar baby/sugar daddy, sex worker mc, billionaire mc, possessive mc, found family, raising a sibling (kind of)
Uber sweet and sexy gossamer-like cotton candy Pretty Woman infused story. Well-told story about the very precious Wren, a sex worker, who helps to take care of his found family, and Alex, a billionaire workaholic, who decides to call Wren at the suggestion of his friend Tyler. Tyler has been partaking of Wren's particular charms but decides to stop. I like the simplicity of the story - instalove, billionaire who can give the world, nasty media. The only thing I didn't quite get is that throwaway plot line about Tyler's marriage. So something is clearly wrong but nothing comes of it. Still a sweet, uncomplicated bit of fluff.
What could be better than a gay version of Pretty Woman? This book by EM Denning, that's what! This story might borrow the subplot of the famous movie but it weaves a very different tale that is more about the meaning of family, what is really important in life, and not being ashamed of who you are!
Wren is a sex worker and he isn't ashamed of it. He enjoys sex and has a select client base that help him to make ends meet and support his best friend, Riley and his younger brother, Caleb. When Wren's highest pay client is unexpectedly forced to terminate their arrangement, he is shocked, hurt, and then he does something that even shocks himself - he asks if his former client has any friends to recommend him to. Rich friends! Enter Alex! Alex is a self-made billionaire who is tired of men who only want to be with him for how much he spends on them. He's lonely (and horny) and when his closest friend offers him the name of a young man that could help with both of those issues, he is, at first, surprised, and then intrigued. He contacts Wren for an initial meet and is stunned by, not only the fragile beauty of the young man, but his wit and humor and ability to hold his head high despite his circumstances. Sparks fly (well, more like a small wildfire) and Alex suddenly finds himself unwilling to let go of this ray of sunshine that he's found. He offers Wren an unconventional and exclusive contract. He will be Wren's only client for a very hefty weekly price. Wren sees a way for him to help his found family better and faster than if he continued with multiple clients and so he agrees. But what starts off as a sexual affair soon turns more. Alex enjoys spending time with Wren - outside of sex. He wants to spoil him and rescue him from ever needing anything again. Wren, too, is caught up in their growing relationship and finds someone who sees him for more than a pretty face and sexy body. However, outside forces seem to want to intrude on their little bubble of happiness. Riley isn't so happy with, what he perceives as, losing his best friend. And once the media get wind of the famous bachelor billionaire and the young man, will Alex and Wren be able to hold to what they have or be torn apart by too many critics.
I absolutely loved this story. First of all, it's a true "feel good" story. There's no angst simply for the sake of adding drama. It has a very genuine tone. The characters are well written and come off the page realistically. The world building is just enough to add to the story without bogging you down in needless rambles about this or that place. It's like a place you could find just about anywhere and feel like you already know. Secondly, and for me this is a big plus, this story is very sex positive. Wren is not ashamed that he enjoys sex and that men are willing to pay him for his services. He isn't ashamed that he comes from nothing, so to speak, and he has worked hard to cultivate his own interests and ideas and goals. When he first meets Alex, it is this confidence and strength that really spark Alex's interest. Here is a beautiful young man that has been forced to sell himself to survive and his is bold and unapologetic. I really liked the message that you should be proud of who you are, no matter what you do for a living, and that no one has the right to make you feel like you are less because of your job. You are not your job!
Honestly, this is a really fun book filled with humor and feelings and positivity and I wholly recommend it.
I didn’t know I needed Pretty Woman only gay, but I so did. Wren and Alex are fantastic characters. They’re both a little bit lost in their respective lives for different reasons and when they meet everything changes.
Wren is a sex worker. He’s doing the best he can to help take care of his family. Wren likes being a sex worker, he likes sex, he enjoys some of his clients’ company, but it’s exhausting. He’s an actor, he puts on a new mask every day, and while each one is still him, no one sees all the different masks he wears and loves him anyways. No one outside his small family that is, and even they don’t see all of Wren because his job sometimes makes a wedge appear between them. And then he meets Alex.
Alex is tired of people only being with him because of his money. He doesn’t want any more shallow boys who only care about what he can give them, not how he can love them. When a friend suggests Wren, Alex is hesitant, but he’s also lonely. So lonely that he takes a chance. That chance leads him to Wren, who is beautiful and carefree in ways Alex hasn’t been. He’s fun and exciting and wakes up parts of Alex he never expected.
Their whirlwind romance begins when Alex pays for exclusive rights to Wren’s body. It’s a lot of money and Wren can’t pass it up. It doesn’t hurt that Alex is hot and kind and so very sweet to Wren every step of the way. This book is so cute. Alex and Wren have chemistry right off the bat. They might come from different worlds, but there’s an understanding in the loneliness they both feel. They both give so much of themselves to others, that when it comes down to it, they just want someone to love and cherish them. They find that in each other.
EM Denning killed it with this book. It’s so good to see sex work in a different light. Wren doesn’t hate being a sex worker. He’s one because it was all he thought he was worth in the very beginning sure, but he’s come to enjoy it. Though by the time he meets Alex, he’s tired. So very tired of giving and only getting the minimum effort. It’s why Alex’s offer is so enticing. The money is a bonus, the gifts and the resources Alex tosses Wren’s way without any expectations are nice, but it’s the way Alex cares for him that really draws Wren’s attention. Alex can literally buy whatever he wants, but he can’t buy love. He might buy Wren’s body, but his heart is given to Alex freely. When Alex gives Wren his heart, Wren protects it like no one else has ever done before.
Billion Dollar Sugar Baby is a fun and refreshing read. It’s one that will bring you joy because of how cute these two characters are. Alex and Wren might have found each other for business, but in the end, they discover what they truly need is each other.
Shit! Why did I not DNF this book. Why did I put myself through this hell 😭😭😭 terrible! I think I kept hoping it would get better because it truly could not be that bad. I could live my whole life never hearing the name Wren again. It’s like a b grade gay version of fifty shades. The ending & self righteous awareness of Alex was unnecessary & what is with the mystery of Tyler. Also Alex was an absolute one dimensional character. Dude literally knows only two people his assistant and best friend Tyler yet he is world renowned billionaire 🙄🙄 no family or world building, he takes Wren nowhere except the bedroom with scenes that are supposed to be romantic but left me feeling bored 😑 I’m exhausted at the thought I finished this & my next read better be A+ to make up for this disaster. 0.5 🌟 I think that’s my lowest rating ever and it’s only because I did not DNF! Aarrgh 🫤
ETA: I remember downloading this because of the stellar reviews. I hated it & everyone else loved it so maybe I’m Scrooge. Ignore me & give it a whirl but my rating stays. Also, I loved Pretty Woman & this is not it.
Loved, loved, loved Wren and Alex!! Wren is struggling to make a living and take care of his family. When a client decides he no longer needs Wren’s services, Wren asks if he has any rich friends that he could meet. Alex is a billionaire and he’s lonely. He tired of men using him for his money. He meets Wren and is instantly smitten. This reminded me of a Cinderella meets Pretty Woman. I loved all their interactions!! I think Tyler and Riley needs a story!! The story kept me engaged, hooked me from the beginning and didn’t let go. Overall, a phenomenal read, I cannot wait for the next one! The story was really well written, the pacing flowed smoothly, highly recommend. I am voluntarily leaving a review form an advanced copy that I received. My reviews are solely based on my thoughts and opinions.
Priceless. That’s what this book is. It’s also how Alex describes Wren. Wren has led a far from charmed life. His friend Riley saved his life when he was kicked out of his home. Now Wren works hard to make money to help Riley and his little brother by being a sex worker. When he loses one client, he doesn’t expect it to lead to a once in a lifetime opportunity. Alex and Wren have instant chemistry and it seems like more than a transaction from the very beginning. Alex is used to his privileges and enjoys showering Wren with gifts. But Wren uses his sudden windfall to help his friend. This is more than a Pretty Woman trope; it’s a story of realizing your own worth. It is definitely worth a read!
I’ve always loved Pretty Woman with Julia Roberts and never knew I needed a gay version of it but at last…this one story is right up there in sweetness and s*xiness. I loved Wren from the beginning. He was so sweet and just wanted to do what he could for his best friend who had helped him in a time of need. I even like Tyler for helping him find Alex. I want a side story about Tyler. Alex was just a big softie of a billionaire but I’m glad he recognized those who were using him versus those who didn’t take him for granted. He and Wren were cute together. I’m not sure how I feel about Riley, even after he and Wren made after their fight. He doesn’t seem like a person who’d ever really let something go…who knows. Overall, I really enjoyed this story.
I swear EM Denning never lets me down! The book billed as the gay Pretty Woman certainly lived up to my expectations! Wren is a sex worker struggling to make ends meet for him and his found family. When he loses a lucrative client, he’s crushed. Until his client says he may have the perfect replacement. Alex has been unlucky in love. The billionaire CEO has grown accustomed to people wanting him for his money, not who he is. So the idea of someone who’s time he knows he’s paying for seems like a win-win. But Wren and Alex get to know each other, and their differences mesh beautifully. They are both also kind and caring, and both men just want the same thing…to have someone see them for who they are. This was really sweet, very steamy, and the MCs were two gorgeous characters
Billion Dollar Sugar Baby was a delight to read. Wren and Alex are perfect together. A Cinderfella and Pretty Woman wrapped up as one. Wren is a sex worker and he loves his job because it helps him take of his family, Riley and Caleb. He meet Alex after his main hookup had to let him go.
Their story is sweet, romantic, some angst, the characters are great, and their sexy times are hot. I love that Alex didn't allow Wren's past to affect their relationship. Tyler is the best friend that anyone would love to have and I'm interested in finding out what is going on with him. Overall, it's a great book and I enjoyed it.
I loved Wren and Alex and found their story brilliantly written. This story had the perfect dynamic of a worker going exclusive for and falling for a client plus the rich client unlucky in life falling for a sex worker. They had such chemistry it really delivered on believability. This was so wonderfully written. I loved Wren's heart and motives. I would love to see some spin offs. This story delivered in romance, heat and feels. It was everything I could ever want and it was an instant favorite. I will say this story is an absolute must read and if you check it out you will have zero regrets and all the feels.
This was my first proper spicy romance read. The guy on the cover helped a lot, though I'm not sure if he's supposed to be Wren or Alex. To me, he looks too young to be Alex, and too muscular to be Wren but hey, semantics. As a poor NYC-based author myself, I couldn't stop fantasizing about what getting $10K a week would be like. Man, that would solve all my problems.
*The next section might bleed into spoiler territory. You've been warned.*
I'm unsure if this is my preferred genre to read. While I believe there are better written romances out there, this one was cute enough to get through. But I prefer more angst and conflict in a book. I would've loved for the character of Rupert to enter the story sooner. He could've been the villain I thought Tyler would be. Speaking of Tyler, I know he was the catalyst for Wren meeting Alex, but other than that, I thought Tyler was a useless character who I didn't really understand, and never felt like Tyler advanced the story at all whereas Riley and Caleb did. Every small conflict in the story was wrapped up within the chapter it started, which makes this an easy read. The cute factor is there but with little depth.
It's possible I wasn't here for the plot anyway, if you know what I mean.
3/5. Highlights may contain spoilers. Read at your own risk.
Content Warnings for book: Survival sex work, poverty
Kink: Lingerie, CNC, primal play, somnophilia
What I enjoyed: Wren and Alex’s dynamic. Having a character who doesn’t reject money (especially because he is working) out of bruised ego and pride. Caleb is a sweet secondary character. How Riley and Alex eventually settled their differences, and the way the issue of how wealth can change power relations even when things are done altruistically. There were some fun sex scenes too!
What I struggled with: The writing is a bit choppy and doesn’t flow the best, but I got more used to it as I read. There were also some grammatical errors that unfortunately stood out, and I just sometimes felt very disconnected from the prose and characters by how the book was written.
Overall, for those who want a Pretty Woman style romance with low angst (for the most part) I suggest picking this up! Good popcorn read.
I really enjoyed reading this! I liked how Wren accepted Alex‘s money with not too much hassle. It would’ve annoyed me a little if he outright refused it (like Riley). Like why not take money from someone richer than God who’s begging to give it to you??
Wren and Alex chemistry was so apparent. The author did a great job describing it, I really really felt it!
One thing Wren said that I really related to was when he was analyzing why he wanted to pay for everything that Riley and Caleb needed. He said that he wanted to be in a position where he didn’t have to worry about anyone anymore. That hit me hard because it put into words how I feel about things in my own personal life.
Finally, again I really liked this book, and I would definitely recommend it to others!
As other reviewers have mentioned this is "Pretty Woman" comes to M/M.
Wren is a "sex worker" trying to support himself and a friend and his brother. (The term sex worker is used throughout the book, not prostitute). Wren needs every client he has and when one of them leaves, Wren asks him if he could refer a friend. Lo and behold here comes Alex, billionaire extraordinare, who is immediately taken with the silk panty wearing Wren. Shortly after, with a new wardrobe, a new roof and remodel of his house and being chauffered every where, Wren decides he shares Alex's growing attraction between each other.
I think Alex told himself once he didn't deserve someone like Wren and, likewise, Wren told himself once that he was sure Alex would get tired of him and move on. Otherwise there was really no angst, no second thoughts, money galore and lots of steam. So if you like sweet billionaire meets prostitute with a heart of gold M/M romances you'll love this one.
