Off Limits Mafia King

Rate this book
The plan to escape my mafia life was simple… until my best friend’s brother accused me of arson and took me captive.

Running away was a dumb idea, and now I'm in the hands of my uncle’s enemy.

Thomas Warwick, the rich mafia boss and my best friend’s brother, saved me from the fire.

His muscular frame pins me to the wall, his eyes dark and dangerous, calling me beautiful.

But his touch and words are a ruse to extract valuable information.

He demands I help him defeat my uncle and betray the last member of my family.

I would never, but things turn when he protects me from my uncle’s men.

His penetrating gaze makes my spine quiver.

And his dangerous hands graze my skin, blurring the line between lust and tenderness.

I crave the weight of his body on mine.

I’m done fighting.

He might’ve taken my v-card to undermine my worth to my uncle,

But now I'm beginning to see,

The kind of woman I could become… in the arms of a mafia king.

This is the first 5 star review I’ve given out in a long time…and it was a new (to me) author so that makes it an even more rare event for me.

This book was fabulous! I had just finished reading a few other mafia books, and I was growing bored with them so I was a little leery of picking up a new one. But the premise sounded good so I thought I would give it a shot. I’m so glad I did! (And can I just say, I’m not normally a fan of men/people on my covers, but between the tattoos, the piercing eyes, and the color palette of the cover, it was gorgeous.)

The story itself, *chef’s kiss*! I was sucked in from the very beginning, and finished it all in one sitting. The writing was great, the world building, the characters themselves. All of them intermingled beautifully together. This author has a gift for storytelling. You got watch it all unfold, not be told how it was unfolding. Huge difference and a much better experience for the reader. And the editing on this book was tremendous. I honestly don’t think I ran into any errors, but if they were there, I did not notice.

The connection/tension between Thomas and Clara was palpable. The chemistry they had once they got together, so hot! I loved their dynamic between them and between all the other characters in the book. I can’t wait to read Raleigh‘s story!

This is definitely an author I am looking forward to reading more of!!

You might want to hang on and you might want to make sure to double check that you are buckled up, dangerous men, alpha’s personified, possessive, oh, gorgeous, brooding all the makings of a story consisting with three D’s (dark, delicious, and dirty) 😊. There will be suspense, betrayal, death, darkness, secrets reveled, violence, hope, forgiveness, and maybe even love along the way! Two families once two friends who were brought up together yet find themselves enemies ten years later due to the lies of one man. Clara has loved only one man after the death of her mother she wants nothing to do with her uncle but when she leaves a fire breaks out and she is saved by the one man she has always loved her best friends brother Thomas but he thinks she may have has something to do with the fire so he decides to take the one thing of value from her to keep her uncle from selling her and to hurt her or that is what he tells himself however, the more they are around each other we know there is more to the reason behind his actions as the boss yes she is damaged goods but she is his damaged goods no one else will have her but him but will he get his act together enough to see what is right in front of him before he loses her, will she take to heart his harsh words because he talks so harshly to her, will he see that her uncle is behind it all, that she has been treated harshly since the death of her mother, and will they find common ground that leads to happiness?

Just take a look at that cover! This is one awesome book by Breanna Lake. Absolutely grabbed from the beginning and was enraptured by the great storytelling. Two rival Mafia families , two friends who were brought up together suddenly enemies ten years later. But Clara has had enough of her uncle’s tyranny and runs away , asking Raleigh to help her. But there’s a fire and Clara escapes barely with her life as Thomas Warwick , Raleigh’s brother pulls her from the flames but seeing who she is convinces him that she must’ve been the one to start the fire …where’s Raleigh? He takes Clara captive but he gives her butterflies and his harsh words don’t deter her feelings for the new mafia boss . He takes her v card to spoil her for her uncle’s plans to sell her off and now she’s damaged goods. The good girl went and got down and dirty and she loved every scorching minute. But what of the families truce . Not that her uncle is playing the game. But can they continue with the cat n mouse and her stay in the Warwick house? Brilliantly dark , steamy and beautiful. Awesome eye for detail and very well written , I was undone by how edge of my seat it was . Powerfully seductive with heat. I’m leaving my review voluntarily in my own words.

currently reading at 59%. I'm going to take a bit of a break and come back eventually probably.

kind of hard to find reviews on this book that weren't Arc reviews that all came in during book release.

so on the Amazon listing it says that this is one of four standalone books but based on the blurbs of all the books and what's going on in this one I feel like even if it's Standalones there's an interconnected theme going on in the background and should probably be read in order. book does a pretty good job at introducing the characters that have books coming up like the corrupted sheriff and the mmc's sister.

BUT my biggest issue right now is I'm getting the tstl (too stupid to live) vibes with the fmc. with the MMC being the big guy in this group you think he would not be as dumb as he's being somewhat. someone needs to tell this girl that she's being naive and stupid instead of caving and letting her do whatever. the fmc's uncle had a gun literally in her face and was actively trying to shoot her and she's just like oh I know my uncle let me go talk to him. what girl?? especially since the uncle knows that she's been tainted. plus adding the mmc's really bad poor decision making skills like when he flaunted the FMC at the restaurant when he was doing business basically telling her uncle that he has her which he didn't think through until afterwards. plus the FMC basically killing her friend in a fucking fire that they think that the uncle's group set.

random thoughts.

- so I'm not sure if there's another book series before this one then goes more in-depth with what's going on in the background of the story but in the beginning 10 years before apparently there was some sort of Fire at the estate and the house burnt down during a basically split from the main organization which is mmc's family and the fmc's uncle who apparently started his own organization but took half of Thomas's family with him. but it was a bit confusing and at one point took a bit to determine that both the MCS were not related based on the way that the information was given and written. also the part with the fmc's mom and her talking about how she wasn't sure why her mom went with her brother which is the fmc's uncle I think. the whole situation left a lot to be desired and they're probably should have just been a prologue chapter from 10 years ago more than the little garden scene situation we had between the MCs.
- are you telling me there was no cameras in the mmc's sister's house for them to even determine what was going on but the mmc's technology enough to have a smoke detector with a text message alert system so that he knows that it went off and was able to get to the house ASAP because he owns every single home in the neighborhood. especially since he goes to the property the next day and you can see the gas ignition trail that goes from the bathroom to the fmc's room. granted the MMC smart enough to have multiple scenarios that could be leading this on like the FMC could have set the fire and then brought it through her room and set the fire but couldn't get the window open to leave before he rescued her or you know someone else could have done it and wanted to kill her. like her uncle the guy who later tries to kill her at the sheriff's party.
- everything happens pretty quickly and since you really don't get a lot of on paper flashbacks to their past you don't really get a connection between the MCs. like what is actually bringing them together as a couple what makes them individual characters that you want to read about.
- then you have the fmc's art and apparently that's her passion but like also not. it felt like an afterthought throughout the story to try to give the character some sort of depth. but it felt flat because the author left some of it up to the interpretation of the reader instead of just telling us how the MC spelled about the situation.
- I like the writing style but I do think that the story at least currently is missing the in-depth emotional conversations. it feels very surface level.

Review:
Off Limits Mafia King is an amazing Mafia romance. In all honesty I absolutely could NOT put this book down, I actually ended up pulling an all night to finish reading this book in one sitting. I felt the storyline was both entertaining and enjoyable to read. Off Limits Mafia King, I found to be both suspenseful and a definite page-turner of a book. I love Clara is wanting out of the life far away from the mafia, as well as her Uncle. And I absolutely wanted to punch Thomas in the face for how he treats Clara as if she’s an arsonist, which is completely bull. Author Breanna Lake did a fantastic job of bringing Clara and Thomas’s story to life. I also thought Breanna wrote a beautiful storyline, with well-developed characters, and the outcome for this story is quite amazing. I would most certainly recommend this book to anyone. I’m looking forward to reading more books written by Breanna Lake.

🔥 Rival Families, Forbidden Desire, and a Seductive Game of Power 🔥

Just look at that cover! Breanna Lake delivers an addictive dark romance that pulls you in from the very first page. Two rival mafia families, two childhood friends turned enemies after ten years apart—but when Clara has had enough of her uncle’s tyranny, she runs, seeking help from Raleigh.

A fire changes everything. Barely escaping with her life, Clara is saved by Thomas Warwick—Raleigh’s brother—who assumes she started the blaze. With Raleigh missing, Thomas takes her captive, but despite his harsh words, Clara can’t ignore the butterflies he gives her. He’s the new mafia boss, and when he claims her to ruin her uncle’s twisted plans, there’s no turning back. The good girl has surrendered to the darkness, reveling in every scorching second.

But with the fragile truce between families crumbling, how long can this dangerous game last? Can she survive under the Warwick roof, or will betrayal consume them all?

Breanna Lake masterfully crafts a dark, steamy, and tension-filled romance with impeccable detail. The intensity kept me on edge, the passion was undeniable, and the storytelling was beautifully raw. Powerfully seductive with just the right amount of heat—this is one you won’t forget.

I love mafia romances and a good starcrossed lovers story. This was a great start to a series. The story begins in an action scene and keeps rolling from there. The MFC, Clara, has grown up in the mafia world but wants out. She runs to her estranged best friend that she hasn't seen in ten years for help. The MMC, Thomas, is her best friend's older brother who she's always had a crush on. He's the leader of a rival mafia family from hers so they are completely forbidden. There's plenty of tension between these two and when they come together it's explosive. We see a different side to Thomas early on in the story when he's reminiscing. I liked that we get to see Clara come into her own strength as well. One issue I have with other mafia romances is a lot of times there is some form abuse or noncon. We don't see that here. Everything physical between them is consensual and I think it helps their relationship be more believable. The twists and turns are good. The person I though was the bad guy wasn't and The person I thought was an ally wasn't. The second epilogue sets up for another book with a new couple and I can't wait! There are a few things I would like more information on (side characters) but all around great first book in a series.

Clara and Thomas were such great main characters in this story. This wasn't an insta love. This was more like a ... fight for love. Clara was very innocent and sweet. She was trying to escape her mafia life that she was living with her uncle. She just wanted to be an artist and live a basic simple life.
Thomas was a mafia boss. He was strong, dangerous, guns blazing, protective. He also saved Clara and her best friend from a fire, but after assuming that Clara was the one that started it in the first place, her takes her to be his captive. Little did he know, she would soon be the only thing on his mind. Clara, not knowingly, started a war between the two mafia families. There were lots of twists and turns. I didn't see things happening the way it did and it was unpredictable for me.
Clara experienced so much character growth through this story. By the end, she really knew what she wanted, took charge, and went after it. I was so proud of her for stepping up and doing what needed to get done. This was a great read overall and I enjoyed this book.

She flees her uncles house for the safety of her oldest friend, however when they sleep someone sets the house on fire. He comes to the rescue, he is her friends older brother, her secret childhood crush and the leader of the crime family. He doesn't trust coincidence and accuses her of setting the fire. He takes her to use her to trap her uncle, his bitter rival. She just dreams of escaping a life in the mafia, but when the family war heats up she has no choice but to choose sides. They have strong chemistry and mutual attraction which only heats up when they don't know if they can trust one another. The character development is good, and you have a strong sense of who each is. This story is based on a mafia family rivalry and that plays heavily into the book. Their romance is intertwined into the family drama. It was done well to compliment the romance storyline rather than tear it apart. The story is well presented and doesn't feel overwhelmed by the family drama, there is enough to be intriguing but not too much that it takes from the storyline. There is an epilogue to nicely wrap up the HEA.

It’s been awhile since I’ve read an *almost* forbidden Maria romance, and I say almost because it could’ve gone either way with one little switch but I’m not even mad with the way the author chose this to go!

Now let’s talk about Thomas (if you wanna go in blind about characters, stop reading👀)

********

Thomas is all things holy grail when it comes to characters. Immediately broody, and kinda an A-hole, and just wants to rule the world how HE sees fit regardless of anyone or anything that may be in his way. WITH THAT SAID, this man and the way he fiercely protects the FMC even thought he *is just using her for his own gain* is swoon worthy. He’s the type that would burn the world for this girl, even though he’s delusionally telling himself he doesn’t even want her.

This book brought me outta my mafia slump, so if you like mafia romances, and enemies to lovers, this is your next TBR book!

They say you can never go home again, however in her case its not the same. She missed her best friend and thought she was the making the right choice when she went to her. What a twist when the house is set on fire and then there is her best friends brother to save her. Of course he thinks she set the fire and didn't want to listen to anything she has to say about it. Their family's have been enemy's for years and so it makes sense he thinks she was trying to kill his little sister. He thinks if he takes her prisoner that things will go his way until he gets close to her, then all bets are off. She doesn't want to go against her only family that she has but things may be out of her hands. War is something she didn't want but again things may be out of her hands. I would love to see what the future holds for them. Also I really want to read the sisters story.

Whew! This one was a trip. I'm going to acknowledge the fact that I *normally* pride myself on being able to call out certain details in a book before they happen and this one kept me guessing. Which pleases me GREATLY.

Claire and Thomas' past and present collide after a fire, leading them back together in a way that neither of them saw coming. Claire, who just wants to escape the mafia life her Uncle has continued to force upon her, finds herself being dragged right back into the fray as soon as she thought she tasted freedom.

Thomas, who believes himself to hate Claire (or at least, her family) finds himself slowly caving to the innocence that she portrays. Innocence that leads to her own downfalls because naivety doesn't get you far in the Mafia.

Can what seems to be slowly blooming pan out for the pairing or will their opposite families tear them apart in the end? Ugh, read it. You need this in your life, I promise you!

This book does have triggers near the end before the final climax, so be careful! With that said, I really enjoyed reading Off Limits Mafia King. It's full of fast-paced suspense and romance. I couldn't put this book down until I finished it.
The two MCs knew each other when they were young even if they didn't hang out together. Things happen that tears the MFC away from her best friend who is the MMC's sister. They are split between two rival mafia families.
MFC wants to leave her maniacal uncle and his strong handed rule in the mafia. She runs to her best friend that she hasn't talked to in ten years because she is so desperate to get out of the mafia.
MMC took over being the mafia boss after his father died. He's not happy when he realizes the woman he rescues is from his family's enemy family. He imprisons her to try to get info on her uncle. It's a wild ride to the HEA.
I loved the ending, very happy ending.

When in doubt they burn it

You definitely get a front row seat to several of Clara’s relationships throughout. It paints a great picture of the transitions she’s been through the last ten years.

The fire referenced throughout really demonstrates a lot of symbolism when you take a step back and see how it ties into her relationships.

Thomas demonstrates throughout his desire to protect and rescue Clara in pretty crucial times.

It does a great job of giving enough of the history of the story while all taking place in the present tense. The action is described wonderfully where you can envision the scene taking place. A great book for those looking for action filled moments.

A fire starts this Romeo and Juliet story. Warring Mafia families and a forbidden love. I love the way Breanna Lake told Thomas's story as somewhat sympathetic from the start. Clara blew me away, though. She was stronger than she first led on in the story.

She was trying to get away from the Mafia family she hated. The best way to do that was to run to her former best friend. Her life takes one twist after another. There are so many twists, that I don't want to spoil them for you.

But you will love each turn the story takes. And the love between Thomas and Clara will have you rooting for them constantly!

Breanna gives us her first mafia book and it does not disappoint!
Clara has live in a mafia household her whole life. Most of it was with the Warwicks, the daughter Raleigh is/was her best friend, and her mom. But when her mom's brother decides to leave and go on his own, her and her mom go too. Now having lost her mom she wants a life far from the mafia and her uncle, so she escapes to Raleigh's house. That night a fire breaks out and Clara gets rescued by Thomas, Raleigh older brother and Clara's childhood crush. Clara's leaving has caused her uncle to start up his war with the Warwick's again. Is Clara telling the truth about what she wants or is she back to get info for her uncle? Wow - the questions of who to trust, trying to figure out everyone's motives and the twists. I loved Thomas, Clara and Raleigh so much and can't want to see what Raleigh's book has in store for us!!!

Off Limits Mafia King is my first read by this author and what a story to start with. It's a great fast-paced, forbidden love story that's well written, full of heat, intrigue and chaos. Thomas Warwick and Clara Speare take us on quite the journey as they navigate feelings that have been there forever but they definitely shouldn't be having given the history between their families. Raleigh drove me insane and I know when her story comes it's going to be epic. Can't wait to see what's next with this author.

Thomas and Clara’s story is super sweet. Thomas started out one of my least favorite. Gruff, calculating and brutal. While I always understood his reasoning for being that way it made me kinda dislike him. Clara is a brave woman for attempting to find independence in a world she half knew she could never get away from. Her bravery is shown throughout the book in different ways and it was phenomenal. Raleigh threw me for a couple loops herself. The surprises in this book kept me on my toes and got me every time.

For a debut Mafia novel, Off Limits Mafia King by Breanna Lake is one humdinger! The story is solid, filled with danger, intrigue, mystery and heat so hot I burned my fingers turning every page. And without a doubt, I fell in love, again, this time with Thomas Warwick, ruthless, calculating, and cold head of the Mafia who rescued his sister’s former best friend from a fire in her home and then kept her against her will. I could not put this novel down, which is pretty much par for the course when I read anything from Breanna Lake. DO NOT MISS THIS NOVEL!!

Absolutely loved this book! The dynamic and the building of the story was incredible. Enemies to lovers and yes alphahole MMC. Artistic FMC their banter and back and forth was keeping me on the edge of my seat. I haven’t read a mafia romance quite like this before. I love that they were younger. I loved the best friend/sister and the side characters as well! Well written in everyway. Lots of spice! But doesn’t take away from the plot or story.

Holy slow burn whaaaaat?!
Clara and Thomas have a long history that finally comes to head when two families collide.
You get everything with this book!
Betrayal, found family, love, secrets, power, and death.
I love the slowness of their love, but the hurtles they had to go through to get that love will make your heart hurt!
Clara also renews her friendship with Raleigh and learns a secret that shatters her, but makes their bond stronger.
I usually like a lot of spice and the spice here is worth it with this AMAZING story!

I enjoyed the story of Clara and Thomas. You are hooked into their story from the start. Sometimes in the beginning I wanted to shake Thomas because of his behavior and attitude, but gradually you understand him a little more and why he acted that way. The storyline is smooth and well described, you immerse yourself completely in it, with a number of surprises and twists. I can definitely recommend reading this book.

This is Thomas and Clara’s story. The plan to escape her mafia life was simple… until her best friend’s brother accuses her of arson and takes her captive. Running away was a dumb idea, and now she’s in the hands of her uncle’s enemy. Thomas Warwick, the rich mafia boss and her best friend’s brother, saved her from the fire. He demands Clara help him defeat her uncle and betray the last member of her family. Which she never would, but things take an unexpected turn. What will happen? An intriguing and suspenseful read. Enemies to lovers in love
Mafia in love
Billionaire romance in love!

This book has three of my favorite tropes of all time so I was very excited to be able to read it, and I have to say it was a really interesting read and I totally loved it.

Clara and Thomas were absolutely insane together, Breanna did an absolute hell of a job with this book and its universe. The writing was impeccable and I had a really good time reading a truly amazing book. Mafia romance isn't for everyone because sometimes it can be cringy but still I ENJOYED it very much .

Thank you for this opportunity 🤎

A perfect introduction to Mafia romance! Breanna Lake never disappoints—I'm always impressed with her storytelling. Off Limits Mafia King had me hooked and fully invested from the very first chapter. The book had everything: intrigue, unexpected twists, lust, love, war, and friendship. Lake provides an excellent example of how to wrap up a story satisfyingly while still using an epilogue to tease the next book, leaving you eager for more. I'll definitely be reading the next book when it comes out.

Clara is Thomas’s sisters best friend growing up. They are both from Mafia families. Thomas is the mafia king who knows how to use his power. Clara runs away from her uncle because she wants out so she runs to her best friend. This is when the book shows you lots of twists and turns. Breanna Lake has done a great job writing this book.
