This story was really well written with a lot of descriptive language. It was heartbreaking to see so many people take advantage of Nellie, including Wendy, who pretended to be her friend and did protect her, but mostly for her own personal gain in the form of writing a case study about Nellie.
Nellie herself is an interesting character. Sometimes I cringed at her actions, but mostly I felt sad for her. I hated seeing her being taken advantage of. However, she turned out to be smarter than she seemed. Despite her naïveté, she knew Wendy was not a real friend.
This story is in the romance category on Smashwords, but I don't consider it a romance. Maybe the anti-romance. It's a short story but incredibly powerful.
It's an entertaining, provoking and memorable story and I'm curious about what else Jeffra Hays has written.
