Reychel knows her gift of prophecy will lead to madness and now she is at her most vulnerable. The enemy army will attempt to sever her from everything she's ever known. Even at her weakest, she refuses to give up on her desire to end the war between the Malborn and the Serenians. Reychel would do anything, even come back from the dead, to conquer the enemy and reunite with Mark.
Megg Jensen is a two-time USA Today bestselling author of epic fantasy.
No stranger to top ten lists on Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and the iBookstore, Megg's novels have garnered millions of downloads, attracting fans from all over the world.
She lives in Chicago with her husband, kids, and two insane miniature schnauzers.
2.5 stars This was definitely the most disappointing of the three. Generally I still liked it but there were some parts that dragged it down to "just okay" in my mind. Especially the ending - ugh. Could it have been any sweeter? And of course MARK. I'm just going to go ahead and say it - I detest that character. Mark, I DETEST you!! There was a quote in the book that said something along the lines of how when Reychel was with Mark everything else ceased to exist or matter (even though at that point they were in the middle of a war and she had thousands of people relying on her to bring them peace and freedom) and I felt like that pretty much summed up their relationship and why I just couldn't take it seriously.
Krissen was still a fun character but I feel like Megg Jenson made a mistake by giving Ace such a minor role. He was the best character! And such a hottie! If he had been Reychel's love interest I wouldn't have quibbled in the slightest. I loved his relationship with Krissen because although it was clear that he loved her, he didn't pussyfoot around her or exist only as her other half. He was a strong, well rounded person without her as well as with her. He brought out the best in her and she him. IMO that's a lot more romantic than someone who is so intent on protecting and adoring that they won't leave your side and treat you as though you're incapable of caring for yourself. It's 2012 people! FYI, we're not damsels in distress anymore!
I felt like the plot wasn't as strong as the previous and there wasn't a lot in terms of world building development, which was the highlight for me in the previous books.
Overall, I'm glad that this series has concluded - although I still maintain that it could have had amazing potential if it had just been executed in the right way.
"Severed" is an excellent ending to The Cloud Prophet Trilogy. Reychel is suffering horrible headaches and fears she is on the verge of going mad. Johna the healer is called in to try to help her but nothing seems to work. That is when Mark realizes that Reychel might be blocked by some outside force. He enters her mind and breaks down the wall but not before she almost dies.
Krissin, the Princess continues to use Reychel at every turn. However, she hatches a scenario that promises the unite the armies and finally provide Reychel with the much needed freedom she has always wanted. Krissin plans to fake Reychel's death inspiring the armies to victory. Reychel and Mark marry the eve before this epic funeral. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned and Reychel is kidnapped and after four months in a coma, she is awaken to find herself in the custody of her enemies. She must do everything within her power to make Alia and Zuri believe that she has been severed of her powers as well as her connection to Mark.
Reychel is also reunited with an old nemesis, Ivy. Ivy has suffered under the rule of Reychel's father as well as under Alia and Zuri. She pleads with Reychel to trust her again but of course she is hesitant. Reychel enters a portal to contact Krissin. They forge an agreement for Reychel to spy on Alia in an effort to finally bring her down.
This book was quick paced and full of twists and turns. Reychel is no longer the shy little slave girl, she is a force to be reckoned with and has truly grown into a formidable foe. We are reunited with some of the memorable characters from book one and two. In the end, there is a big surprise that I will not reveal. I enjoyed this series and believe that I will probably read it again, this time without the break of waiting for additional books to be published. Pick up this trilogy, you will not regret it.
Severed is the final book in Megg Jensen’s Cloud Profit Trilogy. I was sorry to see it end, but Megg managed to bring Reychel’s story to a satisfying close.
I love the Dystopian world that Megg has created for her cast of characters in her Cloud Profit Trilogy. Everything is so intertwined and unique. It was an easy world to get lost in. I don’t think it’s a world I would want to live in, but not many Dystopian worlds are.
Each of Jensen’s characters are strong in their own way. Reychel is probably the most powerful of all, yet she sees herself as the weakest. She has a strong sense of right and wrong and won’t let anyone stand in her way to do what she feels is right. It doesn’t always work to her advantage, but she is also strong enough to live with the consequences of those decisions and move on. The bad guys are really, really bad. Ace is the perfect balance for Krissin and Johna tries to keep everyone on track. There are also some surprising alliances in Severed.
The love that Mark and Reychel share is written beautifully. Their love keeps them going and fighting even when the odds are totally against them. There were times that I wasn’t sure how they were going to get past everything that they were up against. The characters didn’t come through Severed unscathed, but I didn’t expect them to. The hardest battle fought by Reychel in Severed was internal and in the end she came to the only solution she could. I hope other readers enjoy the journey through this trilogy as much as I did. I can’t wait to see what Megg Jensen has in store for us next.
This series deteriorated quickly for me. The first book had so much potential and the second was okay. It went from serious to girly and teen-angsty. I won't lie, the last book nearly made me stop reading. There was too much teeny bopper dialogue. I understood Raychel's plight, but Krissin was a spoiled brat that I hated from the beginning. She never got better. It would have been nice if there was some character development there. Reychel seemed to have been influenced by Krissin and became a giggling teenage girl. I know she is still young, but she acted like a child all the way to the end. Her experiences didn't make her grow into an adult, which a war definitely should have done. Also, the modern references disappointed me. She wrote that the Mark and Ace fist bumped and at one point they all cried, "That's what she said"... terrible...just terrible... The ending was far from satisfying. It's like she ran out of story and just ended it. There was no follow up to where Mark and Reychel would live, did Krissin and Ace marry, would they find the emperor, etc? It's a quick read, and as I said, it had potential, it just was not for me in the end.

The cloud prophet trilogy was interesting to read and very enjoyable. The characters and the plots were well thought out and well written. Again I do want to repeat that I enjoyed the trilogy, however I really did think it should have been just one book. Each of the trilogy books is under 200 pages and I have the print set to larger than normal to get close to 200 pages. Just too short.
Great ending. This has been a great series. The character development was well done. Reychel was still a bit naive even at the end. That was disappointing. The voice of the story switching between current day customs and a fantasy time period that has the feel of different customs, past day customs. Otherwise very well done.
I enjoyed the entire Cloud Prophet trilogy. The ending was satisfying and the characters remained consistent but also experienced growth which contributed to the depth of the story.
I was rather enjoying book until this phrase was uttered. Why? It doesn’t fit the tone of the book. I’m also annoyed because at one point it used “you’re” instead of “your.”
A trilogy that completely enraptured me! I loved the writing style of this particular author from the first chapter of book one, Anathema. Besides her fabulous writing, I also loved the setting and world Jensen had created so I was extremely excited to read the final book …as well as sad, because who really wants a great writer to finish writing about characters you’ve grown to love?
As we catch up with Reychel in the final book, she’s suffering physically with unexplainable headaches and extreme fatigue. They leave her as weak as a newborn babe. As sick as she is how can she or her gift be an asset to help fight a pending war? When the cure for her sickness comes from an unexpected source, she has to make a decision – involving Mark. While they pledged to always be together, it doesn’t seem fate has their happiness in mind. If Reychel keeps her gift, madness is her future. A decision is made to tell the people that she has died and immortalize her so they will still fight but Mark surprises her the night before her impending death with a proposal…
The day of her funeral, as she lay in the coffin, Reychel had a chill in her veins, and so did I. I knew she was going to drink a potion to make it seem as she had died, but I had my reservations. Sure enough, the unthinkable happens…when she wakes up, it’s not to the face she expected. Things are not as she expected, in any way. Old friends have returned, but since she’s been betrayed before, Reychel knows she can only rely on herself. She’s been told her supporters are dead, but is too afraid to ask about Mark’s fate. At the same time, she’s told that she’s been severed from her gift, and indeed, notices the spark is gone from her eyes, but also discovers she is still able to access power.
As the action heated up and the two factions plot and scheme against each other, Reychel comes up with a plan that seems a win-win for everyone involved, but things go awry and she discovers that she needs to follow the only path she can – her true heart. A very satisfying ending as only Ms. Jensen could write it with many twists and turns I did not see coming at all! I ♥ this trilogy!
I read the first book in this trilogy the last month of 2010, and the follow-up much later in 2011. It took me some time to get around to reading this last instalment in the Cloud Prophet Trilogy as I felt slightly disappointed with the second book and I considered not reading the last book in the series. However, I’m really glad I read the last book, as it tied up all the loose ends and had a pretty good ending.
But, as much as I enjoyed Severed, it had the potential to be so much better. Not much was done in the way of world building, which is one of the things I enjoyed so much in Anathema. More focus was placed on Reychel and Mark and their love for each other, but I honestly couldn’t tell what she saw in Mark. He came across as someone who hot-footed around Reychel all the time and his only role in the story was as Reychel’s love interest – not much of a stand-alone character. I enjoyed the relationship between Krissen and Ace much more. Krissen remained the fun character from the previous two books, and Ace is a well-rounded, strong character who isn’t afraid to speak his mind. Pity he had such a small role in this book. These two characters are really what made Severed such an enjoyable read.
Reychel was again faced with impossible choices, and her strength of character was tested as the weight of her peoples’ fate rested squarely on her decisions. The plot moved at a faster pace than it did in Oubliette and is filled with more mystery and revelations than in its predecessor. Anathema still remains my favorite of the three books in this trilogy and I felt the author never quite managed to recapture the magic of the first book, but at least Severed wasn’t the disappointment I was expecting it to be after having read Oubliette. I give it four stars as it exceeded my expectations and the finale was better than I hoped it would be.
Severed was the perfect ending to the Cloud Prophet Trilogy! Megg has another hit on her hands and has wrapped up the series with an ending that was both heartbreaking and joyous! I couldn’t have seen Reychel and Mark’s story ending any other way.
Megg has brought back the fantasy world that I dearly love and with it the amazing characters that I’ve grown to see as friends. I hoped and wished they would have a happy ending but with Megg I knew that to get a happy ending there would be some suffereing along the way. I cried and winced with pain with what she does to some of the characters I think I even said “Oh Crap!” more than once. There was also something that happened that I predicted early in the book something even Reychel didn’t see coming but it was so fun watching her discover the truth about it and no I won’t tell you because it’ll spoil the ending!
The characters she brought back in the story were all a very important part of this ending Krissin grows into a strong leader and with Ace at her side she appears to be almost invincible but, she has learned to show some weakness as well and that made me love her even more! Mark and Reychel seem to be up against some insurmountable odds but their love and connection to each other can survive anything. A love like that is special and rare. Ivy is back in this one and I can’t believe I’m going to say this but I actually forgave her and, I swear the bad guys were even worse!
You all know how I love a good fantasy series and this is one of them Megg is one of the first Indie Authors I read and I am so happy to say she is an amazing author!
As usual, I devoured Megg Jensen's book! Unfortunately as the series goes on I find myself liking Reychel less and less as a character - though that's not to say she isn't well written. In fact, the reason I don't like her is because she thinks exactly like someone of her age and background would, meaning I wouldn't necessarily make the same decisions. As usual, Reychel has some character growth, and in the climax of this book she is definitely put to the test.
Many of the previous characters return for this final installment. I have to say the author surprised me a bit with the cryptic visions that would really shake me to my core, though Reychel is able to take things in stride and make grown-up decisions. There is quite a bit of violence and death in this book, but also some romance. I figured out what was going on with Reychel way before she did, but again her naivety and inexperience (age) can explain that easily.
Characters must rise to the occasion and make a stand in this showdown. The choices are fight and perish trying to simply perish. Definite must read for lovers of this series; definitely not a book you can just pick up and read one of (well I guess you could, but it wouldn't be the same!). The ending is a bit ambiguous which half drives me crazy because I want to know what happens! But isn't that just a sign of a good book? ;)
EDIT: read this again April 2016 and I don't know if it's just because I'm older and more jaded now but I didn't enjoy this book nearly as much. I'm going to leave my original review and rating up because clearly I saw something I liked, but this time around Reychel was an annoying little....ugh.
I got this first book from Amazon for free (or close to) I believe. Each subsequent book was an affordable 2.99 and I was quick to snatch up and download to my iPad.
Each of these books was relatively short - only took me 4-5 hours to finish them each but a lot of that was because they were all great!
Megg Jensen has a gift with word choice, descriptions and suspense. I was totally "in" these stories. The only exception was the lack of depth I got from Mark which was totally ok with me because the romance was ancillary for me. It was there and I guess it had its point but I think the story could have been solid without their relationship. But on the other hand, I do understand the draw for some readers to have a romantical plot to follow.
This author reminds me to a large extent of Shannon Hale. If I were an author, that comparison would blow my mind and be cause for celebration. Shannon Hale is beloved, her stories crisp, warm and full. Jensen is all that as well. This trilogy is full of life, fast-moving, well-rounded, sweet yet bold. Her creative ideas are inspiring and unique. I've read a lot of young adult fiction lately - lots of amazing covers (this seems to be a trend of late) with plot-lines that fall significantly short of any substance or true creativity. Lots of jumping on the band-wagon of the latest and greatest market niche. Frankly I'm getting really exhausted of it but this trilogy did not fail to entertain and I didn't feel abused which is how the book industry is making me feel for this gengre, in a way.
Jensen has several other books and I plan to explore more.
his is the last book in the Cloud Prophet trilogy and I am sad to see it end. I have followed and review every book loved it. From the start of slave girl to blooming into someone she never thought it be, this book had a great ending.
What I like most about this book is the great plot line. It gripped the reader from the very beginning holding the reader down for a ride we never expected. With every turn of the page, the reader is immersed with wars, betrayals, and old enemies coming back for more. Ms. Jensen really did a fantastic job in closing this series. All questions were answered, enemies were fought, and the ending gave hope for a new beginning.
I don't really want to spoil this book, but the way that the book flowed from a very intense start to a ending that is peaceful left the reader satisfied that all right. That all is everything the way it should be. I love that the characters grew up so much before the readers eyes and got to see them in their full potential. There is nothing like satisfaction when the bad guys go down.
Did this book entertain me? Yes it did! It had so much more than I thought here be plus it left me with a wide smile on my face. This is a great trilogy where characters rise from the lowest depths and become more. Ms. Jensen writing style is strong, fun to read, and most importantly easy to get into. She created great characters in a world where thriving was cut off. If you want a series of action, adventure, and going to new places, read this series!
Severed is the last of the Cloud Prophet trilogy, and my favorite! The mystery and intrigue are at a fever pitch in this novel, keeping me completely absorbed. Reychel is a fabulous character, a former slave thrust into a life she never imagined herself a part of. Now the fate of the world rests primarily on her shoulders and she stands to lose everything she has ever dreamed of to save her people. She still struggles to use her gifts to help her people, even while fearing the loss of her sanity, facing impossible choices.
This book, and the entire series, is one of those that pulls you in and won't let you go. It is a story that stays with you even when it is finished because you have become so involved with the characters and their stories. The dystopian world the author has created may be completely different from that of our own, but the characters are so believable that you are fully able to fall into it as if it were your own world. This story had a little bit of everything in it: friendship, love, betrayal, mystery, loyalty, intrigue, fear, and honor. The characters are so well created that, at the end of the series, you feel as if you have been with them as they grew and changed within the story.
While the series is over, there will soon be a short novella, The Initiate, that bridges this trilogy with the Swarm trilogy. The first book of that series, Sleepers, is already available and the next one, Afterlife, will be out some time in 2012.
When I started reading Severed, I had literally just finished Oubliette, and although I had other books that I should have read first, and they are books that look really good too… I just couldn’t prolong the wait to find out what happens to Serenia as well as all the characters that I have come to love. So I started reading this book, even though I should have gone to sleep and waiting until the next day, and it was so good that I read it in like three hours! This book was by far my favorite in the whole trilogy… we had more romance between Reychel and Mark, as well as an unlikely pairing between Krissin and Ace. All the major characters were back in this book as well, as well as Ivy who I loved in the first book even though she was evil. I think the part I loved most about this book is that Reychel finally had some real power, she was not a helpless little girl anymore. Also Mark… in this book I finally fell in love with him! He was still a little soft but I think I have come to the conclusion that he wasn’t going to change into the ultimate bad boy, but I decided to overlook that because he is extremely loyal as well as oh so romantic! This was the perfect ending to an amazing trilogy! I want to read the next trilogy right away… but because there only two books out from The Swarm Trilogy I have decided that I am going to wait to start the whole trilogy because I want to be able to read the whole thing at once!
I received a free copy of this book for my honest review.
Although I liked this book I liked it the least out of the trilogy. Reychel is suffering from headaches like the first prophet and the cause is found to be from an unusual source. Afterwards, Reychel has decisions to make that not only will affect her and Mark but all of those in the kingdom.
The pace of this book is a much faster rate than those that came before it. And it feels like the level of magic is also at a much higher degree than before. It seems like anything is possible however improbable. If there is an issue with plot or timeline or a battle just use magic instead of coming up with a likely scenario. Reychel is also so worried about her visions of the future. But if she had paid any attention at all she would know that the future for her as any of us is uncertain. Her visions for her future changed with each decision that she made about her life. No two ever showed the same sequence except for her madness near the end and even those were different each time.
I was a bit disappointed in comparison with the rest of the trilogy. The story line was a bit all over the place and the ending seemed a bit unlikely. I'm glad I continued with the series and found out how things were all wrapped up even if I thought it could have been better.
I was so excited to receive a copy of Severed for review since I loved the first two books in the series so much, but then it took me forever to read it! Which was stupid, because this book was awesome. It's a great conclusion to a wonderful series!
I have loved Reychel from the very beginning and her character grows with each book. She used to be slave who had no idea that the stories she told were actual visions of the future. She is so brave and she is willing to do anything to protect those she loves and others around her. I love that she still uses her "gift" to help others, knowing that the more she uses it the crazier she will become.
There is so much action and plot twists, I had to idea where this story was going to go! The choices that Reychel had to face were bone chilling and I have no idea how she was able to get through it all.
This is an exciting series and I am sad to see it end, though I liked the direction that Megg Jensen took with the conclusion. I have already read Sleepers, the first book in her other trilogy, which I adored, and I am looking forward to reading the second book, Afterlife.
This is one of those series that had me from the first book. The characters are intriguing and each book has so much that happens they are hard to put down.
In this third book, it's the one that I feel Reychel has the most character growth for her. she is learning how to use her powers and read her visions.
Her romance with Mark takes a pretty big step forward. And her relationship with her childhood friend Ivy takes a huge turn with events that left me breathless. It was an emotional roller coaster between the two.
There are several times throughout this story that pushes us forward in time. Magic, portals, visions, friendship, enemies, slaves and war. Very imaginative and even though there is a romance aspect to the story, there is no love triangle and it even takes a back seat to the major plot line. Reychel is showing all the signs of becoming a strong, powerful female character and with this ending, I am picking up the next book now.
Reychel has to die. It's the only way she can help her people find the will to battle - and protect them from those who are trying to invade her mind. But something goes horribly wrong with the charade and Reychel finds herself in an all too familiar place...
This novel was a little predictable - I had the "secret" revealed at the end figured out not long after it started and kept waiting for everyone else to find out. That said, I was pretty into this installment for the first 60% of the book. The action kept up, there were a few game-changing twists, and we still had some romance going on too. And then I feel like the author really shot herself in the foot with the ending 40% or so. Don't get me wrong, her ideas for the ending were great - but she used ALL OF THEM. It was just too much. All the big twists and action-packed moments piling on top of each other just got tired and took away from a story that would have been so amazing with just one or two of them. So, a nice read, but be prepared to be hit with a lot of stuff towards the end.
Reading this after the other two was a bit of a letdown. The other two were action packed and we got to see Reychel learn to look after herself and learn to be more careful about who she trusted. I feel like I missed half the book because she woke up 4 months later. Granted it was at the end and she did end up being able to win against the Malborns but ultimately it just lacked something the previous two books had. It also felt like it ended really quickly. I'm sorry but after spending 3 books with these characters I wanted more than just an abrupt ending. Overall I enjoyed and I'd still recommend the series but I was a little disappointed.
I really enjoyed this book. However, like the first two, I felt like it was way too short. I think that the three books in this series could have easily been combined to make just one book and then it would have been a normal length. It only took me about two hours to read this installment.
This book wraps up Reychel's story and does a good job of tying up all the loose ends of where each character was coming from and what their final role was in the story. Again, there are a few nice twists and turns that I wasn't expecting, similar to the second book. It made it very enjoyable to read, and pretty hard to put down.
I'd definitely recommend this series. It's a find amongst the indie authors on Amazon, and they are all fairly inexpensive. I think the first was free for the kindle, and the last two were each around $4. Although all three are shorter than I would have liked, they were well written stories and an original idea.
I thought this book was better in a lot of ways, because the writing was a bit tighter and there were a few surprises in it, but Krissen just annoys me to no end - she waltzes into Reychel's room right after she wakes up and acts like a four-year-old (as she often does - she is not a lovable character at all!). How are we to believe she is a kind and decent princess who has been so good to her people for years (and she is what, 15 also)? The dialogue still lapses into the ridiculous for a fantasy/period piece ("Stop playing kissy-face" is an example). It was pretty obvious Reychel was pregnant, but I don't know how no one noticed. Whatever happened to R's vision at the end of the second book (presiding over a certain wedding)? Overall, I'm glad I read them, but maybe they are more appropriate for a less discerning or a younger reader.

Great ending to a fascinating series! This book was full of surprises and tension. There were several times when I was almost afraid to keep reading, but couldn't bear to stop! The world Reychel lives in is being turned upside down with fighting all around and Reychel is having a hard time getting her gift under control. And that's just where all the trouble starts! Thank goodness for Mark and the few loyal friends Reychel has made along the way or she wouldn't even have a chance! This series takes place in such a unique world, I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to experience it from beginning to end!
I am so sad that the Cloud Prophet Trilogy is over! It was a fabulous ending, though. Once again, Megg Jensen left me guessing throughout the entire book. The ending to the war was unexpected, as was the people behind the war. The very end left me surprised, but successfully tied up all the loose story threads. Megg Jensen is definitely joining the list of my favorite authors!
While the Cloud Prophet Trilogy may be technically over, there's more to look forward to. Megg recently announced that she will be releasing a short story called The Initiate. It ties together the Cloud Prophet Trilogy and The Swarm Trilogy (Sleepers). Look for it soon from DarkSide Publishing!
I really don't like giving books bad ratings. Let me be clear this book series was not BAD, it just wasn't GOOD. The story of the series was a great idea, it was just not executed properly.
This book had a lot of filler in it that did not need to be there. I hated reading about Reychel's visions of her future. It was annoying. I did not like any of the characters in this book at all. Their traits were forced in with no back story or development process.
The big twist? You can see coming a mile away.
Overall impression, read the series, but don't put it up on a pedestal prior to reading and you may be pleasantly surprised.
What I Loved Final What a great conclusion to the final book in the trilogy. A few great twists that kept me guessing what was going to happen next and wondering how this story was going to end. It did have one of those exciting ending where you thought it was all finished, but them something crazy happens and we still have more to go.
Didn't Love I went back and forth on Reychel in this book, last book she was doing so much better with being not so naive but in this book it kinda comes back a bit.
Recommendation Great trilogy for fantasy readers. Completely enjoyed it and I can't wait to start the next trilogy in the saga.
I just finished up book three of the "Cloud Prophet Trilogy" which also happens to be book number four in the "Song of Eloh Saga" series. I really liked book one, so I bought the whole series. So far they have all received 4 to 4+ stars from me, until this book. I loved it 5 stars here. It has been my favorite so far. I just couldn't put it down and read the whole thing in almost one sitting. Great characters, mystery and magic galore, and several twists and turns in the storyline. All making for wonderful epic fantasy. Still no swearing, there is a few sexual references, but nothing graphic or explicit (all happening "behind closed doors"). For teens and up.
