Dane Deenam, a slighty pudgy Black boy from a rich family, wants to spend the summer after he graduates from highschool being a maid and submissive housegirl to Nigel Greenwood, a White construction worker from Britain, much to the horror of his mother, a well-known attorney. His dirty, scandalous adventure ends up teaching him more than he bargained for about himself and about his blue-collar stud in a world of complex stereotypes and subtly-nuanced social values.
Weird...I loved the style of writing, but I just couldn't get into the story. The characters -- with the exception of the mother -- were two-dimensional and unsympathetic and I very nearly gave up on this whole thing half-way through. The stars are for the author's voice, which was beautifully developed, rather than for the story itself.
