Within weeks of my thirty-ninth birthday, I lost my thirty-ninth patient and all feeling. I was certain it would pass, only it continued into the next day and the weeks after.

In order to treat my patients, I needed to feel something. Without feeling, I couldn't stay. Not in oncology and not in Baltimore.

So, I'm back in Dallas after more than twenty years gone. Home, my mother keeps saying with happiness.

Happiness I still can't feel more than four months after that day. I'm beginning to accept feeling isn't coming back.

Until the moment I walk into an exam room and look into her eyes. All at once, feeling comes rushing back as suddenly as it disappeared.

She’s my patient. It’s all kinds of wrong to want her, no matter what television portrays. Add in the fact she’s running from an abusive husband. I should be staying far away from her, not taking her and her daughter home with me.

But I can’t walk away from her. They’re living in a crappy motel, barely surviving. I have a room, a safe place for her to recover and heal. She needs time and patience before she's strong enough for me to tell her the way I feel.

I'll give it to her. And hopefully, she'll grow strong enough to trust in me and fall in love with me the same way I've fallen for her and her baby daughter.

There’s one shadow over our growing the man who beat her badly enough to send her running. I’ll do whatever it takes to ensure he never gets close enough to Amy or her daughter to ever hurt them again. My money should be enough to get him to leave us alone, but if it’s not, I have no problem using any means necessary.

***Trigger warning for domestic violence on page. I apologize in advance to all those who’ve gone through abuse (I have as well, and it hurt like heck to write.). This will break your heart. But I promise it will be put back together by the end.

Another warning for my long-time readers. I’m sorry to say this is a slow burn. Nothing else made sense after all she’s been through. But I promise, it’s still a me story, and once we get there…it’s all there. All the yummy bad/goodness you expect to find in every story I write.

Due to commitment issues I have lived in many different cities and my favorite is Chicago but I have managed to settle into Austin and perhaps my commitment issues are behind me.
I have enjoyed reading from a very young age and it wasn't long before the children books bored me and I read the books my mother enjoyed Stephen King and Dean Koontz and I didn't sleep without the light on until I was about ten.
I came across my first Harlequin by accident and it was love at first read, no one died and happy endings? It was a whole new world and I loved it.
I wrote my first story at eight and everyone died, of course. Since then I would like to think I've gotten better and now I'm writing the happily ever afters I first fell in love with, with some hot sex thrown in along the way.
As a plus size woman myself, I have started writing the stories I always wanted to see myself in but never did. And now I'm ecstatic to give BBWs the happily ever afters with hot Alphas they so rarely get.

Fiona Murphy knocked it out of the park with Matteo’s story! This is definitely going into my Highly Recommend pile. For different reasons, both Matteo and Amy are at a crossroad in their lives. Amy is running from and abusive relationship with her daughter and does not trust easily as a result. There is a trigger warning about this so please be mindful of that. Matteo is going through a personal crisis but the moment he sees Amy, all he wants to do is take care of her and her daughter.
There angst in this book but it is well worth the read. I have always had a special place in my heart for Fiona Murphy books. I loved reading every bit of this book and truly believe that you will as well!

Please do read the author's CWs before starting this one.

This one was kind of a twister, where the very first few chapters freaking broke my heart and I had tears in my eyes.
When I say twister, it's because this one might have had a difficult start, but it takes you onto a most precious ride of selfless love, healing from past wounds and finding meaning to your life when you had lost all feelings.

We see Amy and her daughter, sweet little Layla, struggling to make ends meet. Especially with the 𝖺𝖻𝗎𝗌𝗂𝗏𝖾 husband, it's all the more worse and seems to be getting worse as the days go.

When Amy sees that her daughter's life is in jeopardy, she takes a decision that results in changing the entire course of both their lives.

Matteo, is a kind man and an amazing doctor. He works in the children's oncology department. Even though he's become sort of numb to the losses he's suffered, yet a recent one hits him hard and makes him rethink his entire life.

A hard situation, a desperate patient in bad condition meets the kind doctor who takes one look at the woman and her little one and decides to care for them.

THIS BOOK HAS MY WHOLE HEART RIGHT FROM WHEN MATTEO MEETS AMY AND LITTLE LAYLA.

𝑾𝒊𝒕𝒉 𝒉𝒆𝒓 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒔, 𝒊𝒕 𝒊𝒔𝒏’𝒕 𝒔𝒊𝒎𝒑𝒍𝒚 𝒆𝒎𝒐𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑰’𝒎 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒏𝒈—𝒊𝒕’𝒔 𝒂 𝒔𝒆𝒏𝒔𝒆 𝒐𝒇 𝒑𝒆𝒂𝒄𝒆 𝑰 𝒅𝒐𝒏’𝒕 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒊𝒆𝒗𝒆 𝑰’𝒗𝒆 𝒆𝒗𝒆𝒓 𝒇𝒆𝒍𝒕. 𝑨𝒎𝒚 𝒊𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒎𝒚 𝒂𝒓𝒎𝒔 𝒘𝒉𝒆𝒓𝒆 𝒔𝒉𝒆 𝒃𝒆𝒍𝒐𝒏𝒈𝒔.

If I had tears before, I have also cried tears of happiness and pure joy to see Amy and Layla find shelter and a man like Matteo.

Seriously, this one was such a healing journey especially after having witnessed what Amy had gone through and having no one there to help her or support her.

Especially her being a curvy woman, she has zero self confidence and after the past hurts, I'm in love for how Matteo makes Amy find herself once again.

THE INTERACTIONS BETWEEN LITTLE LAYLA AND MATTEO.... OH MY FREAKING GOODNESS .... I'M SO EMOTIONAL AND ALSO SIGHING SEEING THIS MAN CARE FOR HER AS IF SHE WERE HIS OWN DAUGHTER. 🥹🥹🥹❤️

Even though this one is a slow burn, yet when these two finally reach acceptance of their feelings, both Matteo and Amy will burn up the pages with their passion as Matteo might be a thorough gentleman outside but inside the b£dr00m he is a filthy man who can't keep his hands off his woman. Oh my... Matteo is definitely the complete package. 🥵🥵🔥🌶️

This one is such a beautifully written journey of two opposite souls finding their way to each other and teaching each other and fulfilling the absent parts in each other's lives.

THIS BOOK WAS SERIOUSLY EVERYTHING 😭😭😭🥹🥹💗💗💗

MATTEO is the third instalment in Fiona Murphy’s contemporary, adult THE CASTILLO FAMILY erotic, romance series. This is thirty-nine year old billionaire oncologist Dr. Matteo Castillo, and twenty-seven year old single mother Amy Richards’ story line. MATTEO can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty. Any important information from the previous story lines is revealed where necessary.

NOTE: Due to the nature of the story line premise including domestic abuse, there may be triggers for more sensitive readers.

Told from dual first person perspectives (Matteo and Amy) MATTEO follows the slow building romance and relationship between our story line couple. Amy Richards is on the run with her nine month old daughter Layla from her abusive husband but when Amy suddenly takes ill, she finds herself under the care of Dr. Matteo Castillo, a man with a severe case of white knight syndrome. Dr. Matteo Castillo left his practice, returned home to start a free clinic for those otherwise unable to pay for medical care but Matteo never expected to find his future in the guise of single mother Amy Richards. Offering his house, his money and his love to Amy gave Matteo hopes for a future, and with the help of his mother, Matteo finds himself falling for a woman who is desperate to escape the past. What ensues is the slow building romance and relationship between Amy and Matteo, and the potential fall-out when the past comes looking for something more.

The world building primarily focuses on Matteo’s infatuation, need and obsession with out story line heroine. From the moment they meet, Matteo takes control, moving Amy and her daughter Layla into his home, claiming our heroine as his future. As Matteo works behind the scenes to separate Amy from her past, our heroine is completely unaware of Matteo’s plans for her future.

The relationship between Amy and Matteo is one of immediate attraction for Matteo but Amy is too ill to truly comprehend Matteo’s actions.Matteo will take over Amy’s life ensuring her complete dependence, a dependence Amy is only too willing to accept in the face of her situation. The $ex scene are provocative and passionate.

The secondary and supporting characters are familiar and determined. We are reintroduced to Matteo’s sibling: Javier and Hope, Rafael and Carrie, and Santos, as well as their mother Elizabeth. Rafael and Javier are worried about Matteo’s obsession with Amy but Elizabeth is determined to make her one of their own.

MATTEO is a story of abuse and recovery, family and relationships, acceptance and love. The premise is captivating and entertaining; the slow building romance is seductive and intense; the characters are desperate -Matteo is fixated and bewitched by our story line heroine -a noticeable ‘white knight’ syndrome in the face of past events.

The numerous epilogues fast forward the series approximately twenty-three years ending on a cliff-hanger, crossing over with the characters from the author’s Beautiful Broken Obsession, book one in the Bratva Bound series.

It took me a little longer than usual to read this book, because I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything important. This was a slow burn, complicated story about two lost souls in search of something better from life, but not really sure what that something was. I'm glad I took the time needed. This story was well worth the read.

Matteo and Amy's love story is a slow, growing story, full of ghost from their past which brings out insecurities and confusion which only complicates their relationship even more.

39-year old Matteo Castillo is suffering from burnout, depression, and at a lost after being a pediatric oncologist for all of his medical career. He is desperately looking for something to inspire his life again. Starting a free clinic seemed like that would be the way he would fulfill his life, until a woman with an adorable baby girl arrived at his clinic in need of medical attention. The moment he saw her chocolate eyes and felt the electric shock when they touched, changed the course of both their lives.

Amy and Matteo's journey is not an easy one, but it is definitely one worth reading. The instant love that everyone has for Amy's daughter Layla is enough to make your heart burst.

As the author warns, this book does have some trigger warnings of previous domestic abuse, drug abuse, and manipulation. However, these things are gently worked in the story to simply explain the characters.

I think everyone who reads Amy and Matteo's story will appreciate the way the author took the time to really address all of their concerns and issues, including addressing surrounding issues with the Castillo family. Also, for those who've read Murphy's Beautiful Broken Obsession, you'll appreciate the incorporation of Milos Levin's family with this story.

Looking forward to Santos' story to finish the series.

Those deliciously toe-curling Castillo men! And now we have Matteo's story.
And again, Ms. Murphy does not in any way, disappoint.
In MATTEO, Ms. Murphy gives her readers the rare luxury of learning about, and therefore caring about, Matteo and Amy. She takes the time to not merely introduce these 2 main characters but lay a strong foundation for understanding who they are and what experiences/traumas forged them into the people they've become.
They are both damaged in their own respective ways, have come to realize SOMETHING in their lives must change in order to survive and just maybe even flourish.
And this is the incredibly tender, heartwarming, sexy, skillfully subtle journey Ms. Murphy takes Matteo, Amy and her readers on. I found the excellent writing swirled me swiftly into the story, caused me to wonder about and deeply care about Matteo and Amy and want to know more: more about them individually, more about their blossoming relationship, more about what direction their journey would take -- and I wanted to take it with them, my fingers crossed the entire time for them to reach a HEA together.
A wonderful book I very much enjoyed, one which made me feel, care, smile, loathe; one which engaged my interest from beginning to end.
For the reader who craves, loves, a book with excellent writing, enthralling characters, an investing plot perfectly balanced with emotion, suspense, tension, steam and absolutely beautifully built and detailed romance, read this one.
I loved it and I think you will too.

Matteo is a children’s oncologist. Who has lost all his feelings. He quits his job and moves home. He decides to open a free clinic, to give back to the community. Amy has left her abusive husband, to protect her daughter Layla. She has been living at a motel. Working in housekeeping to get a free room. When she gets so sick she can barely walk. She goes to the free clinic. Where she falls asleep in one of the patient rooms. And Matteo finds her. He realizes when he first makes eye contact with her. He is feeling something. He brings her and Layla home with him. Even though she tries to insist she can take care of her and Layla. Matteo then realizes when he carries her to his car. That she is his! And he will do everything he can to keep her.
This was a great story! I think it was portrayed very realistically. She has been abused all her life Matteo shows her not every person is the same as every other person, she has encountered so far in her life. Matteo had become so cold and detached from every emotion and depressed from his job. Until Amy and Layla show up at his clinic. Matteo shows her there are people you can trust. Amy shows him there can be joy in life. It is definitely worth reading!

Beautiful Story!

I know I read this story out of order but I don't regret it ,it was a very beautiful story, well written.Amy had such a poor life, her mother didn't seem to care for her then in her adult life she gets married to a man who beats her and yells and just plain uses her and when she has a baby it gets worst so bad that she runs off with the baby but she gets really sick and that's when her life actually changes for the better.Matteo is the doctor who check her over when she gets to the clinic and doesn't let her and baby Layla go,he has fallen so hard that he makes change in his lifestyle for Amy and the baby and his family notices Matteo is a change man thanks to Amy and the baby.Matteo has his hands full because Amy has alot of doubt about men,her body and she doesn't feel like she deserves love and happiness! But they work on it and she falls for him too.I guess the only thing I didn't like is the way Layla acted out in her adult life and I hope she gets a story too!

Wow! I absolutely loved this book. Amazing characters and wonderful plot. Very beautifully written and easy to read.

Matteo is a thirty nine year old pediatric oncologist. He’s suffering from depression and burnout. In order to continue working, he needs to feel again, so he left Baltimore and came back to Dallas after more than twenty years of absence. He started a free clinic and met Amy, his patient. He immediately felt something for her. She’s running form her ab**ive husband. She’s living in a motel with her little daughter, Layla. Matteo took them both home with him. He will do anything in his power and more to protect them both and keep them safe. He will be patient and let Layla fall in love with him in her own time. I loved their chemistry and passion. They were made for each other.

Overall I loved this book very much. If you’re looking for a doctor/patient romance, that will make you feel plethora of emotions then you will love it.

Matteo is my very first read from Fiona Murphy and with the way it started, I was all-in.

I admired Amy for getting herself and her baby girl out of an awful situation. It took guts and nerves especially with no plan. Thankfully, when things were at their worst, she found her way to Matteo's clinic.

Oh Matteo, that man is a force. When he knows what he wants, he goes after it full force. And no one was going to get in the way of what he wanted with Amy, not even her fear. I loved his patience and gentleness with both her and Layla. Seeing him with that little girl was enough to melt my heart.

All that being said, the burn was a bit too slow for me. And with the dramatic way things started I wanted a bit more drama from that part of the story and for Amy to be involved with it. But at the end of the day Amy and Matteo's romance was sexy and sweet and the thing they didn't know they were missing.

I don't always pay attention to trigger warnings and I don't think she meant it as one but the author warns you it will break your heart and she wasn't wrong. This is a book that will have you sobbing so hard you have to stop for a minute. But she also promises you'll get your heart put back together and she delivered on that too.

One of the things I love the most about Fiona's writing is you feel like you're experiencing it right with the characters and they don't feel like characters they feel real like you know them. And in this one you feel like you go along on the healing journey for both Amy and Matteo. He's hurting too and he needs Amy as much as she needs him.

It's a beautiful story and although its long it doesn't feel like it. As soon as I was done I just wanted to read it all over again.

This is the fifth book in this impressive series, and this is Matteo and Amy’s story.
Matteo is a pediatric oncologist, who is burnt out and suffering from depression, and he needs some inspiration in his life, while Amy is a single mom to her baby girl Layla. Both characters are at a crossroads in their lives, and they complement each other perfectly.
This is a beautifully written story which is a slow burn, with family, friendships, emotions, angst, a complex storyline, manipulation, heartbreak, violence, trust, healing, and love, which leads to an entertaining, spicy, and heartwarming addictive page turner.
Be aware of the trigger warning due to sensitive content!!
I look forward to reading more from this talented author whose work I highly recommend.

TRIGGER WARNING!!Abuse, both verbal and mental and intense intimate encounters between consenting adults, some off page dub/con!
Your heart WILL break.
You WILL root for her.
You WILL cheer when she finds and loves herself.
This story, , Amy lived a nightmare that could have ended in tragedy but Matteo and his heart were in the right place at the right time!
Matteo showed her a love that made her bloom to life and realize some things about herself and her own wants, needs and desires and it was beautiful.
He had a love to give her and her baby that he didn't even realize he possessed. His love for her is OTT but so were the rest of his brothers in this series and I loved each and every single page! And the Epilogue, WOW!
Do I suggest this for your library?
YES!!!

Matteo is a dominant, bossy teddy bear of a hero who loses his heart to Amy when he treats her for strep. She and her baby, Layla, have run away from her abusive husband. He knows she is the woman for him but she fights the attraction not knowing if she can trust that Matteo is nothing like her ex. This is a heartwarming, steamy romance. It was easy to read and hard to put down. I love Fiona’s big, beautiful women/strong, protective men romances. Each one gets a bit better and this one is no exception! Keep ‘em coming Fiona!

I absolutely loved Amy and Matteo's story! Honestly, this is the first one in this series that I've read, and now I'm kicking myself for not starting sooner. (Adding that it is still a standalone and I wasn't lost at all!) I loved how it brought out all my emotions and how it was written so great that I could actually feel a connection with the characters. It is a slow burn, but the spice was definitely worth the wait!

Matteo is a pediatric oncologist that is burned out and decides to move back to his former hometown. He starts a free clinic for children which is where he meets Amy and her daughter Layla. Amy is on the run from an abusive husband so this is a slow burn. The story is totally worth it! A lot of sadness but also much happiness in the end.

You can NEVER go wrong with one of Fiona's books. If you don't have her in your life you need to!!! This is Matteo's and it doesn't disappoint. Matteo meets Amy and her beautiful daughter Layla. While its a shock to their systems it also allows them to slow down and take the time to grow and heal. Read the book and enjoy. Happy reading.

It was a good story overall. I went in blind and didn't realize it was a contemporary romance. My bad. As a dark romance reader, I got bored multiple times, but I pushed through to the end.

Matteo by Fiona Murphy is a captivating and, at times, heart-wrenching read that will leave you deeply moved. The story of Matteo and Amy, a single mother, is one of healing and rebuilding. Amidst the chaos and challenges of life, they find not only their own strength but also a profound connection with each other.

This author masterfully weaves a tale of love and redemption, showing that even in the darkest times, there is hope. Matteo and Amy’s journey is a testament to the power of love and the resilience of the human spirit. Their story is a beautiful reminder that, no matter the circumstances, finding your soulmate and the passion you both deserve is always possible.

*Matteo* is a must-read for anyone who believes in the transformative power of love and the possibility of second chances.
