David Joseph is an eminent psychologist living in India and together with his brother-in-law Raj who is a police officer, they solve crimes. I was a little disappointed to discover that all the chapters turned out to be different stories, so I would've liked a bit more depth to each one, and the baddies were quite easy to spot, even for someone like me!!

I did enjoy the different stories but really would have liked to have had just one story in much more depth in one book. It was quite a quick read.

The David Joseph Chronicle is actually several short mysteries. Main character, David Joseph, is a psychologist in India. His sister's husband/his good friend is Inspector Raj Kumar. Often when Raj has a difficult case to solve, he goes to David for help. David is a keen student of human nature and notices things that others don't. He has solved several difficult cases and is getting a reputation as a problem solver. I enjoyed the stories in this collection. The main characters were interesting. I would like to read a book by this author that has only one major mystery to solve.

A detective in the mould of Hercule Poirot

A tradition detective focused on the psychology of the crime. Deductions are reached and the pace of each short story are good. The only negative is the focus on sex crimes and rapes. Whilst the author handles the topics with care and compassion the attitudes of the many rapists had with the traditional detective narrative.

Not enough……

There’s no character development at all, including the main character. I wanted to like the book, and I kinda did like it, but not knowing the characters threw me off. Also, there are so many names! Very difficult to keep track of, even in short stories.

Refreshing

An excellent collection of whodunit in an Indian cultural setting. Whatever this author writes, this reader is happy to read!

Good story

Kept me turning pages from the start. Really good paced storyline and characters that are believable. The rest of the series should be good

Stories were good, but I was disappointed to find out that each chapter was a different story. It would’ve been nice to know that ending of each chapter before going into another one.

This is a great book of short stories, perfect for dipping into. Set in India, it has the challenges of a culture with which readers might not be familiar, but the protagonists are well defined and each story has a strong plot, so the cultural differences add an extra dimension from, say, those cosy mysteries set in an English village. My only word of warning is that the theme of rape occurs more than once, which some readers might find too much of a challenge - I don't know if this is representative of the setting but it does take the book beyond the realms of 'cosy'. Well written and thoughtfully portrayed. I shall look out for more David Joseph chronicles.
